I'm not an elite runner. I log maybe 20 to 30 miles per week, if I'm feeling energetic. Nontheless when I started having knee and foot pain while running I knew something had to change. I tried several different shoes from chain retailers in the mall but nothing helped. Finally I decided to bite the bullet and go to a specialty running store. What a difference! These guys were all runners and were wearing running apparel and looked like they'd run to work that morning. I think they did. They knew so much about shoes and the mechanics of running- when I explained my difficulties the salesman (I hate to even call him that) had me jog on the treadmill while he watched my feet and ankles. Then he had me bend down slightly, stand back up, walk there and back, all this while he looked at my feet and ankles. We talked. He asked specific questions. I tried 3 pair of running shoes and they were all perfect! I finally chose a pair and they let, no they practically INSISTED that I take them out on the street to make sure the fit and feel was what I needed. It WAS. This was the greatest customer service I've ever had while buying shoes. I only regret that I didn't try them out sooner. It would have saved me from buying 2 pair of unnecessary running shoes that are now just sitting in my closet, that I bought at the mall. The only advice I can give a potential customer is to allow the people at Ghisallo Running the chance to really help you. Be honest about your issues with running, and about any pain or discomfort you may have had in the past. Take them your old running shoes so they can look at the wear pattern (or lack of). Basically, let them do what they seem to enjoy doing and they will fit you with the right shoes for YOU.
