I canceled my account in April 2008 per the terms in my contract for relocation. I moved back home for a little bit because of family issues. I would have kept my account suspended until I returned but the trainers were very unprofessional so I had to desire to return. At the corporate office, no one ever answered the phone or returned calls but I did finally talk to someone making sure I had all the items they needed to cancel and the guy said everything looks fine and thank you for checking back because most people don't. Well, apparently my account is still open. Actually, STL Workout sold my "debt" to collection in Dec 2008 and has been trying to collect $2135 from me which is 2 years worth of dues even though I had a 3 year contract of which I paid 1 year 5 months. I found all of this out because I couldn't book my yearly vacation because my credit cards are closing my accounts due to my credit score being jacked up for lack of better terms. It seems like from everything I've researched about this company lately, they have a reputation for scamming people out of as much money as possible and frankly ruining their lives. I was supposed to buy a house with my fiance and we were going to try to take advantage of the tax incentive, but now that this has happened, no house, wedding's on hold, I'm stressed out and depressed. Thanks alot STL Workout. If anyone can help me with this situation or direct me to where I can get help, please email me @ beyond.ordinary@yahoo. com. Thank you.

This club is absolutely fantastic!
I can't ask for anything more. St louis workout has moved and now the CHASE PARK PLAZA owns Sante. The cycling classes are amazing and every yoga class is fantastic!

VERY CLEAN, I like taking showers here with all of the Aveda products. They even have robes!!
I love this place. Best part of my day!

Like dozens of other people here I got a bad deal with an annual membership at St Louis Workout. After six month I moved to Nashville and couldn't get the refund for half of the time I still had there. No matter what is in your contract, they're not going to give your money back.
The owner first said he had already sent the envelope with the check, but I never got it. Then he sent an EMPTY envelope, but as I had to sign at the USPS to get it he said he had the proof I got it, my signature, even though the envelope was empty. I'm still fighting with them to get my money and guess what? They just tried to steal money charging my debit card!!!!! They got the number and just charged it, like this!!!!
I filled I claim in my bank and they're forced to give it back to me. And all this scam happened 6 month after I left St Louis!!!
Men, these guys are dangerous. The owner is always hidden behind the contract and he is also threatening me saying I got the money and he is going to suit me!!!
Beware of these dogs, they don't deserve one dime from you...

You can trust St. Louis Workout to do everything possible to get your money. They are worse than an auto-renew website. Forget trying to cancel anything with them. I prepaid a year's membership and was injured in the free first session with a personal trainer. Not realizing what had happened, I signed up the same day for 10 sessions with the then-head trainer. A few days later at my first paid appointment I told them that my back had been hurt and I couldn't do the training. They tried to switch me to a trainer I had never seen before and refused to give me my money back. After six months of physical therapy and fighting with them, they were still able to keep everything had paid. The partners in this business are real pieces of work and well-practiced at winning battles. I am filing suit against them next week.

I don't trust this company's business practices. They give you a super-hard sell and then try to get you to pay for a year in advance. When I attempted to cancel my membership in writing by sending them a signed letter, they called and said that I'd have to come in to fill out a special form in person.

This location is no longer St. Louis Workout.
212 N. Kingshighway is now SANTE FITESS!!!
The Chase Park Plaza owns, operates, completely renovated the gym.
it's awesome, great place, like working out at a resort.

CORRECTION!!

This address is no longer occupied by St. Louis workout, which agreed, was not desirable!

Sante Fitness and Wellness took over, and is dramatically different. In the lower level in the Chase, the club no longer feels like a "gym" gym... more like a private exclusive club! (but it's not).

I've been a member since February since they re-opened after a COMPLETE renovation. You must really see it to experience how beautiful and peaceful, and welcoming the new atmosphere is.

The locker rooms are AMAZING... I could relax in there all day! With towel service, smoothies and personal trainers that REALLY CARE, I feel like they're catering just to me, EVERY time.

Just to clear up, Sante is NOT St. Louis Workout, and is WONDERFUL. All I can say is go try it for yourself :)

Oh... and everyone there knows me by name!

Have a great day :)

This gym needs to go out of business. I signed up for a two year prepaid membership which I was told would cancel after it ended. I confirmed this with the front desk at the Union location a month and a half prior to the end of my membership. I then get a call two months later from a collection agency. Please keep in mind this is a first in my life. The agency informs me rudely that I have a debt due to St. Louis Workout and that this would be placed on my credit record. They claim St Louis Workout tried to contact me by phone and by letter. Both untrue as I joined with a friend that had also received neither a call or a letter. I tell them all the facts of the case and they proceed stating that I have signed a contract with them. I ask them to send me a copy and I still haven't received it a week later. I then call the owner of the company and leave a message. He called back and I explain what happened. He quickly disregards my statements even when I tell him I haven't been in his gym in over 3 months. He then proceeds to discredit my position telling me that my membership will be renewed until I pay the two months owed and cancel with a letter to him. This is a rude corrupt invididual running a scam on its members that doesn't understand anything about customer service. I am contacting a lawyer.

Sante Fitness is a beautiful club, hard to believe you're in a health club. Equipment is spotless, the staff is extremely helpful. I decided to return twice in one day to visit a sunset yoga class on the 11th floor balcony, and the staff offered to launder my workout clothes...WOW.

Everything in this gym is looking good. I am working with a personal trainer and I love it. Kristy is really working me hard - she knows what she is doing. I am getting the results I wanted and faster than I expected them. The renovations are making the gym look really good too - It looks up scale. And on the plus side, the members are young and friendly. The gym is vibrant.

I recently moved to St. Louis to attend Washington University. I was pleased to find St. Louis Workout. The atmosphere of the gym is very comfortable and upscale. They have a great variety of fitness machines for wieght training and cardio training. I especially like the diversity of the group fitness schedule. I've tried the yoga, pilates, bootcamp, and zumba classes and they all have had excellent instructors. I was also amazed by how cheap it is only $29/mo. and no long term contract. I read some of the negative reviews on this site and that has not been by experience at all. Maybe the place is under new managemnt or something. Who knows, but I would recommend any of my friends or family to this gym.

I have been a member of the gym for years and I love it. The Club on Union just got new management and there is a huge difference. When I walk in someone says hi to me everytime and the staff is so friendly. And they are making so many new improvements and additions to the club. The price is agreat for the variety and atmosphere.

1. Notify the Gym staff member about your plan of cancelling the membership. If you are in contract then they would explain you the things to do for cancelling membership.
i.e. $50 check addressed to the Corp Office, 2 proofs that you have moved 50 miles away (utility bill/ Change of Address yellow slip/ New driving licence if you have moved out of state/ New lease paper) and a letter requesting for cancellation.
You then have to send all the things mentioned above to St.Louis Workout Gym at Crestwood in First Class Mail.
2. If the mail is received after 6th of that month then most possibly money would get debitted from your bank account. So ensure that you send the required details before this date.
3. ABCFinancials are partners of St.Louis workout for maintaining members account details. You can call at toll free number of ABCFinancials Client services and they would better assist you in cancellation proceedings.
Staff members at St.Louis workout will not be having visibility of your account details and they will not be of much help when it comes to cancelling membership.
Lastly ask ABCFinancials for email confirmation for your records.

I have had a similar experience with St. Louis Workout. I signed a contract with this gym for a 1-year membership. After 1 year, I chose to join Powerhouse, instead. However, St. Louis Workout continued to unknowingly bill me (as I do not frequently monitor my checking account, as I should).

After I realized that I was being billed, I inquired about the continued billing, but management was difficult to reach. When someone finally did respond, they sent me a FORGED copy of my contract, which included the same date, but, unlike my original copy (which I possess), this one included an agreement to continue bill via my checking account. St. Louis Workout warned me in their letter to reconsider my position on this matter. I have considered, & I would like to join forces with other victimes, so that this does not continue to happen to other members, & I can rightfully retrieve the money that they took from me.

Please e-mail me at vondy7@yahoo. com if you would like to discuss this further.

This place is a huge ripoff! I signed a 1 year agreement/membership. My dues were collected each month directly from bank account. After 1 year I requested in person at Crestwood location (where I had joined) to terminate my membership. When I left it was my understanding that was done. However, a year later, I realized I was still being billed. It was not easy to track this to St. Louis workout because the transaction is with ABC Financial. Trying to get any info from them was impossible. I finally realized this was St. Louis Workout and contacted them and was told my account had "Autorenewed" for over a year. I tried to cancel by phone (4 phone calls) until I got "Steve" in the corporate office, who said cancellation had to be done by mail. That's done. I'm watching my bank account. Another bill from them and it's Btr Business Bureau and a lawyer.

I signed up to this site just so that I could write a horrible review of Saint Louis Workout. The ppl are reasonably nice but the equipment is from 1982.

There is really one major reason this place is so awful..

You can never leave...It's worse than the Eagles' "Hotel California" checkout policy. I have now been living in Chicago for two months, I've paid the $50 cancellation fee for moving (a long time ago) and I'm still being charged monthly for my membership through ABC billing. Just called Merryl Lynch and told them to put a hold on any more charges from these clowns.

It's not really a nice gym either so unless you're buying a lifetime membership why mess with the bullsh*t?

I understand that fitness clubs get a bad rap for locking people in to memberships. This Club is a prime example of one of those clubs. I was a member that signed a year membership in which I paid in full. When I signed up I had some muscle bound moron who did not explain anything to me he said that the contract that I was signing was actually a receipt for my paid in full membership. So I signed the document not knowing that it was a contract the locked me into a 2 month cancellation clause. I was supprised to get a PAST DUE notice from ABC Financial where they were trying to bill me for the months after my member ship had ended. I was never notified that my membership had gone to a month to month membership.I am willing to file a class action L A W S U I T against this club if anyone is interested. P.S. he gym wasn't too bad of a place to workout. But POWERHOUSE GYM is a better alternative!!!!

Oppressive testosterone prevalence, dirty facility, very rude staff. Six months after I paid the year's fee of $300, they cut the price to $199. This refers to the gym on Union Blvd. Avoid it, especially if you're a woman. I was confronted by an employee (large male) who imitated me, stared me down, and leered threateningly. Sounding like Pollyanna? Well friends, I'm from NYC -- I earned my stripes on the 8th Avenue subway and believe me, I know what intentional misogyny looks like. As for the gym itself, I was disturbed by the number of people who don't seem to believe in wiping down the equipment after sweating all over it -- this basic courtesy is not enforced at all. It was often necessary to wait for a free elliptical if they're not broken anyway. My recommendation: avoid the place. For the sake of well-being, I've had to cut my $$ loss and go someplace else.

I have belonged to the gym for 3 months now and I love it. The staff is very friendly - every time in walk in and out they greet me and say goodbye. It is a clean gym with a good variety of equipment. I think it is a fair price for what you are getting and for the location in the CWE. And after seeing their Crestwood location I am excited about the remodeling of the Union Club. Also, try the juice bar - the smoothies are healthy, unlike the ones you get elsewhere.

Since closing down Chase location, the gym has added overcrowed to its previous characteristics of overpriced, inadequate equipment, and poor service. The new site on Union cannot accomodate the number of members and parking is a problem - not that the Chase location was paradise. Who wants to go to the gym and split up their routine because they cannot get the machine they need when they need it? The hours are too stringent particularly on the weekend. The biggest problem, though, is that they will find some way to mess up the cancellation and continue to charge your credit card. It happened to my friends and it happened to me.

I have been a member for over 1 1/2 years. Signing up was a wonderful thing, than that staff left. I can understand turnover however I can't understand why you would put such ignorant staff in the front of house sales. In September 2007 I was let go from my job. The company I was with is no longer able to afford my salary. It was unexpected and has me in a place I wasn't expecting. First things first eliminate any expenses I can't afford. Hence to keep food on my table & bills paid. I called STL Workout to discuss my situation and that I had to cancel my membership. After the man couldn't get my last name spelled correctly over the phone he handed it to another guy. This man was the ultimate in rude, unproffesional and spoke down to me. He repeated my entire membership date info and that I cancel my membership I have to pay two months of fee's and then he would cancel my membership. I explained that in my contract it says nothing of sorts. That I don't have the money to even pay my membership if I wasn't not to cancel and I am stressing enough to pay rent. He announced to me loudly on the phone that they can't make an expeception just because I lost my job. We don't make exceptions for anyone. He made that very clear. I am VERY upset and I am not going to sit here and be treated with such disgrace!

Pros: location

Cons: Staff, membership, showering facilities, hours inconsistent

.

I am extremely frustrated with the cancellation of my membership and second "seanduc1"'s review. Furhtermore, I am interested to speak wiht seanduc1 regarding his action towards ending unfair cancellation practices and unprofessional customer service.

Pros: machines are usually well kept

Cons: locations, customer service

i have been a member of st louis workout for the last few years, pausing to join another gym in the course of things the hours of which were better suited to my work schedule. until recently i had not seen the more venal side of their business practices.
with the closing of the chase park plaza location, practices slid considerably. the gym appears to be very interested in taking as much money as possible from as many people as it can recruit to join-there are signs everywhere. the facilities are fair, the machines are also fair, the staff is transient and the management is only visible when one wants to quit and stop paying dues. this place is becoming what vic tanny had been in the early 90's.
in the last week, i have been attempting to cancel my membership, paid in full from the beginning of the contract. i am told that due to the provisions of the contract that i have to pay a cancellation fee equal to two months membership. i, like so many others, took issue with this. unlike the others, though, i looked at the contract and read it before signing anything. the contract is plainly named an "installment agreement". the clause in the contract which provides for the legality of the cancellation fee does not exist-it appears to be written into the computer file with my name on it but is not a part of the contract i signed.
so, i am wondering if anyone is interested in joining a class action suit against this gym for their practices concerning membership and cancellation? has one even been started?

Im new to the Saint Louis area and I have checked out all of the gyms in the Central West End and I found Saint Louis Workout to be the best match for me. I went and signed up there 2 weeks ago and already everytime I come in the gentlemen that signed me up greets me by my name. Its a nice welcome change from the run of the mill clubs I have belonged to that are just happy when you sign up. All of the equipment is modern and clean and I really am able to get a good workout in. I have been attending the cardio kickboxing class as well and I love the class and the instructor. As to all of the people that have writing negative reviews I agree with what was said by the person before me ( READ SOMETHING BEFORE YOU SIGN IT!) as a future law student and someone with common sense I cant stress this enough. Thanks.

Since there's no listing for the CWE location on Union, I'm posting this here. After almost 2 years of membership, my wife and I cancelled due to poor management and severe overcrowding. The Chase location (the above address) was closed and all the members transfered to our club. The emphasis stopped being on current members and focused more on future rennovations. We, too, were surprised by the 2-month cancellation policy and, in retrospect, should have demanded to review the previous contract. I don't care that I have almost three months membership left. We've been avoiding it for 3 months already, now we'll just wait even longer to start working out again. I do not need stressful, rude, confrontational treatment when I'm coming midday to take a break from all of those things.

Pros: Hammerstrength equipment, pool

Cons: Overcrowed, I got a rash

.

The gym itself was decent, and the equipment was in OK condition.

The management, however, left a bad taste in my mouth. They didn't notify me up front that they would charge an extra two months worth of membership fees when you cancel. When I tried to talk to the manager about this, he was very rude and confrontational.

Then after I had finished paying for the two additional months and officially canceled my membership, they charged my credit card again for my monthly rate 6 days later.

If you join this gym, be warned.

I went to cancel my membership due to the Chase site closing and was still stuck with them for another 60 days. All Chase members can now use the Union site. Although a lot cleaner and better managed, this gym is 1/4 the size and not equipped to handle all of the rollover members. Good luck getting in your workout now...
And for the past 2 years I've had MULTIPLE problems getting access to the Union pool. It's sad that I've not gotten my ROI on this place at all.
Anyone have strong feelings about The Heights?

I work out at the Union gym and I think it is the BEST I have ever gone to. I have never had any problems, and the people there know me by name and greet me every time I come in. They have gotten to know me so that they make fun of me when I don't work out very long, giving me great motivations. The people are GREAT and really try to get to know you. Plus, except for expected times (i.e 5 pm) I've never had any problem getting a machiene or using the weights that I want to use.

Horrible place, it takes days to contact someone. Don't waste your money here. The staff doesn't care about you at all as long as they collect their monthly fee.

Dirty, poor ventilation dirty gym; worst part of chase plaza; not nearly the quality of chase park plaza; very rude and unfriendly staff with Attitude; difficult cancellation policy; difficult to work with them; worst gym experience of my life; to top it off, even the trainers are unhappy and give attitude; your money is better spent doing ANYTHING else than joining this gym.

Bad air quality in a basement gym. Most the time it's overcrowded. Customer service extremely poor. I highly recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

I have had the most frustratingtime with this company with regards to their membership policy. It was evident from talking to their representatives on the phone that making money was a far better end than maintaining the respect of previous patrons.

Awful service. I actually signed a two year contract without knowing. I can not for the life of me figure out why I would agree to a two year contract when I was living in an apartment with less than a year left on my lease. In addition to the gym not being able to get my membership charges correct for the first six months, they began charging my credit card for my boyfriend's monthly fees when his credit card expired. How do they have the right to do that? I have never been able to get them to fix this.

I've had the same issues as everyone else here. I made it clear when I signed up that I wanted 1 year only and I paid for the year up front. Like others, I filed my contract away and forgot about it. I moved, stopped going there and assumed the contract had run out. Then I got my credit card bill. St. Louis Workout bills on the 5th of the month. I received my credit card bill on the 5th of the following month and called to cancel right away. They were rude, telling me that they had told me that they would do this when I signed up (a friend who was with me confirms that they didn't). They said that although I canceled that day, the 5th, the 60 day cancelation policy wouldn't take place until the following billing cycle. I got 3 more months of membership.

St. Louis Workout is an awesome gym to belong to. The faculty is great, especially Smoothie Suzy, her smoothies are the best.
As for all of you that are complaining about their contract. READ YOUR CONTRACTS! This contract is the same as any other gym contract, it is a carbon copy of Bally's Total Fitness- GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND READ WHAT YOU SIGN!

I didn't mind the place, but I agree with the above post. I signed a year contract, and found myself getting billed after it expired. After re-reading the contract, buried in the print was somthing that said I had to give 60 day notice. Now I've got 2 months more of membership that I didn't want. Plus I'm still trying to cancel, and they're making me pay the 2 months in advance. They make it SUCH AN INCONVIENINCE to cancel. I went in to cancel, the guy couldn't figure out how to do it, now I"m calling the manager. I'd join somewhere else instead.

i enrolled several years ago and i plan on staying a member for a while longer. the personal trainer i ired was absolutely one of the best i ever worked out with. the membership dues were unbelievably affordable and everyone on the staff was cordial. more health clubs should be like this one. people would sure be happier.

The machines are friendly but if you have an issue, expect rudeness. Keeping customers happy is the lowest priority.
