The worst managment and D.O.N ever, The great nurses leave or get fired due to inept DON. They should be shut down. I wouldn't leave my parents there for one second. The state should step in.

I have had the opportunity to volunteer at several nursing homes, big ones and little ones. Pacific Care Center is

11/20/09 nice warm day not raining visited grand mother rolled her arouund facillty in wheelchair when we spotted an employee sitting on bench drinking a tall can of beer and smoking out of metalic pipe. he looked shocked we saw him and he said hi and quickly went inside. it clearly smelled like marijuana and he left beer can by bench. my grandmother said he was new and a nice boy and he was in the activities department.. when we went inside I pointed out the employee to another employee that woman said his neme was mike daum. he wasn't wearing scrubs so i was relieved to find out he isn't nurse or doctor. he's probably 5'9"-5'10" and about 125 lbs. real petite short dirty blond hair big nose and not a very masculine voice. i love my grandma dearly but if i go to your center again and this man is here i will immediately move her so she doesnt have to be around these shenanigans. it is truly sad someone cannot go 8 hours without drugs and or alcohol especially when they are in the business of caring for others. I would have reported that day but i don't want any retalliation done to my grandmother.but if this is the kind of staff you employ at your facility i will notify the police and the better business bureau. we have 8 people in our family that will stand outside your facility and pass out fliers to let anyone elses family members know that this place employs people that care more about how they feel than the patients themselves. we spend a lot of money for my grandmother and we will pull her out immediately if this happens again or i see mikey mike micheal or any other employee not taking thier job seriously like its a party. It is a important responsibility to care for people and its hard to do it sometimes sober but intoxicated no way i am not gonna let my grandmother be treated like this she is human not a dog and i'm very offended that no one did a background check or a drug check on someone from franklin county the drug capitol. when i come back to see my grandma next week hopefully this guy is gone or my grandma will be leaving with me. we moved her in there years ago so she wouldnt be exposed to that atmosphere with my dad and brothers.thank you for your time and cooperation on this matter.
regretfully,

i worked for pacific care center for a little over month. i worked overnights 11-7. on almost every night i was given over 30 people to take care of at once without any help. i had just enough time to do my rounds and as soon as i was done, it was time to do it again. wheelchairs are supposed to be cleaned at night, but you don't have time. call lights will go for hours on end without being answered. i used to watch one girl sit in her chair all night and ignore her residents. she had one woman on her hall screaming for help and she didn't even get up to see what was wrong. so i had to, i had to answer everyone elses lights as well as take care of my own people. the residents weren't the problem at all, it was the staff.

in the mornings we're supposed to get people up, they expected you to hurry through each person and just get them dressed, that's all you did. no one's hair was brushed, no one's dentures were put in. i was taught to get their clothes on and wheel them down to the end of the hall and let them sit. procedure was rarely followed, you could see the neglect when you took care of these people. one woman's room always smelled like urine and i could never get the smell out, it was in her bed. i changed the sheets over and over and i left a note for days to do something about it. nothing ever changed.

to run smoothly on overnights and have everyone taken care of, you need 2 nurses and 5 c.n.a.s. that's 2 nurses for medication and whatever else may come up. and one c.n.a. for each hall. each hall has 14 rooms with 2 beds each. that's 28 people. i still think that's not even enough staff. it is so easy to get overwhelmed and stressed. usually there was only 1 nurse and 3 c.n.a.s a night.

all in all, people are not taken care of like they should. i swear their motto was "make it LOOK good"

i wish i could give you pros and cons. but all i have is cons. this place is terrible. i would NOT leave my loved one in their care.

Dear readers,
If you are in search of safe, reliable and trustworthy place to trust the care of your loved one, you will find it in Pacific care Center. In May of 2004, my family was faced with the hardest decision we have ever had to make. My Grandma Velma had suffered with Alzheimers Dementia for years, and was no longer safe living in her home. Our family had tried our best to care for my grandma at home for the past year, however related to obligations to our jobs, children and many other responsibilities we were no longer able to keep her safe. we started looking at local nursing homes for possible placement for my Grandma. I'm not going to say terrible things about other nursing homes we looked at, I'm just going to give you the positive things that helped us decide on Pacific Care Center. First, from the moment we entered Pacific Care Center, the staff we all so pleasant with us. They didn't act like we were a bother to them. They took the time out to give us a tour, with no appointment made. During the tour there were several things that stood out to me. There was no odor, a few of the other nursing homes we looked at smelled like urine. Also, a lot of the people that lived there looked very happy, they had smiles on their faces and were clean and well kept. They also had alarmed doors to keep the people who were confused from getting out without them knowing. This was especially important to us because this is one of the reasons we couldn't keep grandma at home any longer. Since grandma has lived at Pacific Care Center we have had nothing but a positive experience. She receives good care on a daily basis. Sure there have been times when things have gotten lost in laundry, and times when grandma's hair was washed the same day she went to the beauty shop, but if this is the worst things that happen who care ask for more.
Sincerely, Michelle Hoyt
