I can not say anything bad about this place. Deliciousness if you like custards and ice cream. All we tried so far was excellent. The kids working there are friendly. Lines can seem long but you get through pretty fast as there are multiple windows you can order at.

This is my first (and more than likely only) experience with frozen custard and I have to say it was great especially for a hot summer day.\n\nThe lines...well...what lines? There are so many open windows that you don't have to wait to get cooled down. I really like there is a sign on the side of the building listing what they offer because it was nice to be able to sit in my car for a bit to try to decide what I was going to get before hand. The place is also very clean especially outside.

This is easily the best frozen custard anywhere. It's a St. Louis staple, and is one of the many things you cannot miss if driving through!

Ted Drewes is awesome. We make a point of visiting there several times when we're in town. I've been there in different seasons and there's almost always a line, but it moves quickly. The servings are quite generous. My favorite is the terramizzou.

Have you ever been to Ted Drewes? The first time I went here it was early fall (well after ice cream season) and was shocked to find at least 50 people waiting in line to get frozen custard. It was intense. I wanted to try something new but didnt have time to really think about it since there were people waiting. Maybe go here during a cooler season. This way you'll actually get a chance to look over the flavors. But I give this place high marks. The service is quick and while the environment may be hectic at times, its great to go during the summer and see all the st louis families getting together here. Also, the custard is delicious! way better than ice cream.

Ted Drewes rocks! It is one of the best places to go for an after dinner dessert or simply for a mid afternoon snack. The building is older, giving it a sense of the history that has grown up around the business. The concretes are simply to die for. When I lived outside of St. Louis, I would crave Ted Drewes, and I tried to stop there every time I came back into town.

I've never been a huge fan of frozen custard, but it's a place to take visitors on a hot summer day. You never know what celebrity you might see there passing through St. Louis.

It is not just the custard but the atmosphere, in the summer they have to block off the street it becomes so busy! Don't miss out on this St. Louis tradition.

There's just nothing like Ted Drewes! Better to spport your local businesses than the big guys I always say. Locally owned and operated, Ted Drewes is the best frozen custard! Lines may be long on hot summer days, but one bite/lick/taste of Ted Drewe's frozen custard and you realize how great it tastes!

I just don't see what all the hype is about. St. Louis Custard Factory is way way way way way better. I'm not from St. Louis and i hear so much about it before I went, then i finally go and it was like i got a shake from Mc. Donalds. Not that special. Not only did I have to wait a long time to get my custard, it wasn't that good. No inside seating and just okay service. It's just hyped up.

The best frozen custard in the universe is what they do at Ted Drewe's. Though they are famous for their concretes in a cup that hold a spoon when held upside down, I prefer my custard in a cone, dipped with chocolate. You can only get vanilla or chocolate if you want it in a cone, however, but thankfully, those are the best flavors in my opinion. If you don't want a cone then you have literally dozens of flavors to choose from. You can get a myriad of add ins and toppings but there is nothing better than the standard vanilla cone, chocolate dipped. Any visit to St. Louis must include a visit to this great American institution.

Pros: Best Frozen Custard

Ted Drewes is the best frozen custard. It cannot be compared to ice cream as they are two completely different things! Drewes custard is so creamy and yummy and tastes wonderful just by itself. But you can mix in just about any flavor your little heart desires! Or if you're a traditional, you can have the flavors on top as a sundae. If it's your first time visiting though you must get a concrete and watch as it's handed to you upside down! Don't worry, it won't fall on your shoes, it's so thick! Although I wish there were more of them all over, the quality just wouldn't be the same and it wouldn't be a St. Louis only treasure. Many of the employees work there throughout high school and college. That tells you how well your custard is made, they know what they're doing! You can't get custard this good anywhere else!

I went to Ted Drewes last week-end with lots of curiosity and without any pre-plan. Being new to St. Louis - I was not aware of this place and all my way thought about concrete and custard :-)\r\n\r\nI tried Chocolate (my favourite!!) concrete and it was good?being at the first ice-creme parlor at St. Louis ? it was not at all bad and enjoyed yummy concrete a lot on cold, winter evening with friends.

I remember going to Ted Drewes a couple times as a kid. You hear a lot of hype in St. Louis about it. I recently went back for the first time in about a decade and it's only so-so. For all the buzz it gets you'd expect something more than average. Maybe it was the flavors my friend and I tried but it's not that great. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad custard, but I've had better. The prices aren't too high as some people say they are. You're going to pay the same or more at Dairy Queen or other ice cream places.

Went by on the way to a Cardinals game the last summer of old Busch stadium...when they handed the concretes to my kids upside down...the stop was worth it just to see their eyes. Then they tasted the stuff and whoa, was that good! The last bite was as good as the first...and the flavors were many and varied (and all delicious!). The Cards won that night, so they whole evening was a sucess. MMMMMMMMMMMM!

This past weekend I went to St. Louis to visit my grandparents, and over the three day weekend I went to Ted Drewes 5 times. Personally, I would have been okay if the number had been closer to 8, but maybe I shouldn't get greedy. My personal favorite is the Terramizzou. Absolutely phenomenal vanilla custard with chocolate and the tastiest pistachios mixed in. If I had just eaten a 5 course meal, and was bursting at the seams, I could still probably eat a regular Terramizzou if offered.\r\n\r\nSome people complain about the lines, but when I went on Saturday night after the Cardinals game, we estimated that there were 200 people there waiting in line and it took us 10 minutes to get our custard. I've waited that long for 8 people at Dairy Queen. Years ago, my dad bought a rental house (in part) because it was a couple of blocks away from Ted Drewes. This way whenever he would go ""check up"" on the house, he could conveniently get some custard. No doubt, that was one of the best-maintained rentals in the county.\r\n\r\nFinally, a couple of my favorite quotes about Ted Drewes from our last trip.\r\nWhen I asked my dad if he thought he would ever get tired of eating Ted Drewes if he worked there every day he replied, ""Yeah, I think so. Maybe after about 30 or 40 years.""\r\nMy brother on the tastiness of the Terramizzou: ""I think that if the food in heaven is half this good, I will be more than satisfied.""\r\n\r\nMy advice: If you are in St. Louis, make it a point to get to Ted Drewes at least once. Don't be intimidated by the crowds or potential difficulties in finding a parking space because it is maybe the most delicious food you will ever put in your mouth.

ok, i'm from places overseas and most recently Chicago (Homer's is the best!). i have a sweet tooth, tasted all sorts of IceCream in my life and this STL tradition i just cant get into. i dunno what's the big deal about this custard. i've tried different flavors and different vessels (cup and cone) and different ways (shake, IceCream, custard, etc) and it still tastes bland and kinda blah. tho the other food like dogs and candy was good.\r\n\r\nits a local favorite and kids like it, tho i wouldnt run there myself.

Ted Drewes is the best specialty ice cream shop if not in the St Louis area but in the country. Nothing better than their concretes that you can flip over, or the option to get your ice cream in a MLB helmet of your choice (I have all 30!) Great flavors and add-ins. Will always be the choice ice cream place. Thank you Ted Drewes!

While I am not a huge frozen custard fan, the summer just isn't summer without stopping by Ted Drewes a time or two. There a wide range of flavors and while the lines look daunting, the service is fast and efficient.

Ever since i was a young child and grew up on the southside, we would go to the grand location every weekend to get some concretes and get some of the frozen stuff to take home. So every time i go there now i am reminded of how i loved the place then as i do now. The service is always excellent and very quick, and the ambviance is the best in town!

Oh, just thinking of it now. Ted Drews is the PLACE for frozen custard. I always get the same thing, a Tirramazo Concrete. So yummy, and always bigger than I expect. I have had just the plain custard, so good too. Very fast and friendly, but always packed!!! That tells me that they are doing something right!!!

Ted Drews is by far the best place for dessert. Sometimes it's my full meal. There are always a ton of people there, but there are also a ton of people working so the wait is not typically long. Parking can cause a little problem when they are extremely busy, but well worth putting up with the get an ice cream.

I just went to St. Louis for the first time last weekend, I'm from Virginia. I made it a point to go to Ted Drewes, because frozen custard isn't really offered around here and I heard about it on Food Network. I found it to be creamy and delicious. A nice native St. Louis guy even offered to take my picture in front of the place. It was a nice change from boring old Dairy Queen. But what's up with the weird traffic lights in St. Louis? You have 10 lanes of traffic meeting at an intersection and you get a stop sign or a blinking red, I never felt so timid on the road in my life. It was like playing dodgeball with cars. Anyway, good custard.

I'm a St. Louis native. Throughout my childhood I can remember Ted Drewes and the family gatherings there. The thing is... its a thing of the past. The prices are terrifying, the product does not even taste that well anymore, and it's hard to eat custard with noisy customers and bugs around. I now make a drive to Illinois where there are more decent and enjoying frozen custard shops, because it is worth it.

I am a St. Louis native and am just not impressed with the quality that Ted Drewes provides anymore. I've been to several other ""new"" custard franchises which offer sweeter, more delicious custard than Drewe's does these days. While they may be a STL favorite, they sure aren't keeping up with the standards. They have sub par product, unenthusiastic staff, long lines, and incredible prices. It's sad to see that an icon is content with providing mediocre service and product.

When my wife and I went to St. Louis the first time together, she said she wanted to go to Ted Drewes. I wondered what she saw in the place, until the first spoonful. Now, 12 years later, I still crave the stuff. I will happily take my kids to Ted Drewes on every trip to St. Louis, even though I can no longer have any, (Diabetic, darn it!) It is a bit crowded, but that's part of the fun.

Many have attempted but none have come close to Ted Drewes perfect concoction. I have moved around the states for the past four years and I still have yet to find a custard as good as Ted's. My family always made a point of making a stop at Ted Drewes when we lived in Missouri and now we go to great lengths every now and then to have the Ted Drewes experience in Colorado.

My family always made a point of making a stop at Ted Drewes when we lived in Missouri and now we go to great lengths every now and then to have the Ted Drewes experience in Colorado.

Pros: Totally Unique

Cons: Only in Missouri

.

Summer in St. Louis is: baseball Cardinals, Muny Opera, the zoo, and Ted Drewes. I remember so many languid summer evenings, savoring the concrete while sitting on the hood (or trunk) of my car, listening to Jack Buck and Mike Shannon fill the air with their play-by-play from all the car radios . . . there is NO OTHER place like it, anywhere!

It's only open in the summer, so that's the only down side. Get the Mint ""Concrete"" when you go there.

Why people rave about this place is beyond me. Everyone I talk to says it's average or worse. The one time I went, the service was lousy (rude), so I didn't order anything.\n

After seeing such rave reviews, I had to try Ted Drewes. The Frozen Custard was pretty good, but it wasn't the best frozen dessert I've ever had (which according to what I've read, it was supposed to be). I think Maggie Moo's on Manchester is better myself...

Good but not great. And a bit pricey for a cup of frozen custard.\n\nWhy travel down to the city and struggle to find a parking space, when equally good frozen desserts can be found in the dairy case?\n\n
