St Johns has a high rate of c-section because it is a high risk hospital. My initial plan was not to go to St Johns for the birth of my son. But do to a birth defect (I hate using that word) found at 20 weeks my plans changed. Not only would I need a c-section but my son would be in the NICU for an uncertain amount of days. This was a great hospital for myself to give birth and for my son's stay in the NICU. Everyone was on top of things and I could not have asked anymore from the doctors or nurses. I have also had many relatives delivery there with normal pregnancies and normal deliveries. So to the people saying high c-section rates and don't deliver there if you have a normal pregnancy, high c-section rate is the facts yes but you have to look more into that. And it is the doctors call for c-section not hospital but take it even further and ultimately it is the mothers call.

If you have a low-risk pregnancy and want invasive procedures kept to a minimum or done away with altogether, go to MoBap (St Mary's or Barnes-Jewish are close seconds). In my opinion, St Johns is the place to go only (repeat only) if you have a high risk pregnancy. And for the gentleman who said it's up to the doctor, not the hospital whether you have a cesarean, I'd argue that it's up to the mom, not the doctor or the hospital. The doctor and hospital cannot make you do any procedure you don't want done, to you or your baby.

Everyone here is awsome. All the doctors, nurses, staff, food, rooms. No negatives what so ever. And to the individual that rated high C-section status-> ignore her. Of course they have a high C-section rate. St. John's performs all the high risk pregnancy births. There was talk we may have had one, but it's up to your OB, NOT the hospital.

I should have known St. John's had the highest cesarean rate in St. Louis when I ended up with an unnecessary cesarean there. STAY AWAY if you want a normal birth. Try the St. Charles Birth Center, St. Mary's, or a home birth instead. If you are giving birth here, you will most likely also end up with a c-section.
