We love going to Dick's Drive-In. This place has the best burgers in Seattle, and it's always hopping. There is alwasys a line here, but it's worth it. I usually opt for the Onion Rings instead of the fries, but the Milkshakes and Ice Cream products are really good too. It's worth it to stop here. Great Food.
I tried this place for the first time in January 2010 after hearing about it for years....I was pleased. Really enjoyed the burger. Next time I plan on trying the shakes, wasn't to fond of the soggy fries, but they tasted good......
Pros: Almost Everything
I personally love their burgers (& I love that you can't use their name in the review because it's inappropriate) and shakes, and the employees there are especially nice, considering they make >$10/hour. However, I am a crispy fry sort of person, and their fries are too soggy and greasy for me. There are people who like this better, but not I. I would recommend getting 2 burgers and skip the fries, but that's just me...
Pros: Fast & Cheap
Cons: When it rains, you'll get wet :(
Greasy and tasteless burgers! They are counting on drunken college kids who do not have much to spend.
Cons: everything about this place!
It's amazing at how hyped up this place is. The food is mediocre at best, and the service is terrible. The only form of redemption is the price, which even then isn't that good. There is much better burger joints in the area, for example Daily's up on eastlake and Red Mill.
Pros: Price? Maybe?
Cons: Service, Food, Just about everything
I can't believe this is the top of the heap for burger joints in Seattle. I went expecting a fantastic burger, and with the lack of service I got, it should of been the best burger ever. First, they don't take requests, which was ok for my burger, but was not for my dog's burger. They act like it is too much trouble to leave mustard and ketchup of a burger. Anyway, I order the quarter pound burger, a chocolate shake and french fries, and oh yeah ketchup, cause they charge for that. I proceeded to scrap the ketchup and mustard off my dog's burger, went to the car and began to examine the food. First off, let me tell you my shake was not fresh. I saw the girl pull it out of the freezer. Even then, it was somewhat melted and barely chocolate. Second, I picked up a fry which was completly soggy. All the fries were limp and greasy, I couldn't even consume them. So after a dismal start, I opened my hamburger(you know the one that is just so good I couldn't custom order it). I now know why they can't take requests. If they did, then they would never be able to sell the heap of soggy, mayo drowned mess I got. Needless to say I don't even know why this place is open. Save your money and get quality at McDonalds. At least you can get just a patty there(and every other place I have been too). The best thing about the experience was the lively crows that provided us with live entertainment by fighting over the left over buns in front of the building.
Pros: The Crows
Cons Greasy fries, melted shake, soggy burger, no service, no quality, pay for ketchup, don't take requests
What was worse? Could it have been the terrible customer service (complete with eye-rolling while taking my order)? Or could it had been the "atmosphere" with the filthy tables and giant painting of a cow in the kitchen? No, I know - it was the DRY burger that I ate.
Seriously - this is a big city, folks. There are many, MANY better places to eat.
Urban legend?? That's the only thing I can think of as to why this place has such high reviews.
Cons: Food taste, atmosphere, horrible customer service.. Need I go on???
where else can you get cheap, fresh hot burgers and a pretty decent chocolate shake at 1:55am.
....that's what i thought.
This place is the perfect place to go past midnight if you are still have the munchies. It has the best root beer floats! You get a hunk of fresh vanilla ice cream with bubbling root beer poured over the top. Prices are dirt cheap which makes it affordable for us poor college students. It generally seems to be a college late-night hangout with a speckling of the older crowd. I personally don't care for the French fries (I?m "too picky") but plenty of my friends scarf them down before the steam has time to roll off. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a decent meal for cheap.
Pros: Cheap, cheap food
Cons: wait can be a while when it's busy
dicks is not a gourmet burger place but it is a thousand times better than mcdonalds. the fries are an acquired taste. I hated them when i was a kid but love them now. i always get regular cheeseburger, fries and a coke. If you like to chew ice, their ice is the best - it's small and easily chewed - tastes great with a sip of coke. I also like how they have good benefits and pay for their employee's education.
Pros: fast service, inexpensive, fun for kids
Everyone says that Dick's is so good. However, I wasn't very impressed. The hamburger was pretty average and the fries were terrible. The milkshake that I had was pretty good. Also this Dick's is in a kinda sketchy location around the U. My roommate said that their Deluxe burger is really good..maybe I should have tried that...but I wasn't impressed when I went.
Pros: cheap, good milkshake
Cons: burger wasn't great, greasy & nasty fries, sketchy area
This place makes me feel like I'm in high school again. Lots of people from the younger sect gathered around. The food is really not very good. In fact I'd rather get my cholesterol and fat from McDonalds or Burger King. Sorry, but I wasn't that impressed....
If I've been knocking back some cold ones, a Dix's Deluxe is like a flacor exposion in my mouth. Unfortunately, don't expect the same effect if you're sober but do have a milk shake. Perfect consistency between runny and frozen. I guess the value is good but I still find it hard to beat the evil golden arches in that department.
Pros: Cheap, Milk Shake
They are so yummy but the fries are so loaded with grease that I can feel myself fit more snugly in my clothes. Not for Jenny craig or weight watchers members.
What is everyone talking about..........."The fries are too greasy!" Come on, if they aren't greasy they aren't fries! I absolutely love their fries, the best thing on the menu. Get them with tarter sauce, nothing better. I always get a deluxe and chocolate shake to go with. Yummy! Everytime we are in Seattle we make our way to 45th for the yummiest, greasiest fries in town.
Pros: No frills menu, quick, cheap
Cons: Crowded, Parking
I have lived in Seattle for 12 years, and have heard this place raved about enough to try it - twice. It was some of the worst food I have ever had - both times. I think the reason people like it is that it is tradition to like it. The only other explanation might be that people who like it have never eaten anywhere decent, so they don't know what good food is. I am sure that compared to a burger made in England or Peru it probably does taste good. Neither of those places are known for their hamburgers, or for that matter, good food in general. The hamburgers at this place are griselly and bland. The fries are soggy and limp. There ARE much better places to eat a hamburger in and around Seattle (Burger Master Drive-In is one example). I personally wish people would quit being so loyal and "traditional" -- If that's the city's best burger, I'm embarrassed for Seattle.
Pros: None to speak of
Wendy's 99 cent menu has better food and is way cheaper. The burgers were small and flavorless, the fries were soggy, the milkshake was icy. Don't let the locals convince you to eat at Dicks
I have no idea why this place is so 'legendary'. The food is terrible. The burgers are small and lack
flavor--all I tasted was some disgusting sweet sauce on a meat patty. The fries? I don't even want to go there. Floppy, soggy, brown. I went here when I was starved, and it didn't taste good at all. But if you are like me, you are going to try it out anyway because so many rave about it. Don't Bother!!! Those who rave about it are stuck in a nostalgic time warp! There is SO much food in Seattle, just drive a little further and you will find something worth eating!
Cons: TASTE. The taste says it all.
I grew up by the Dicks on 45th. I have moved out of state now but every time I come home Dicks is the first place I go. My family knows that I go there every day while I am in town. I have wanted to open up a franchise where I live but I have been told it is impossible. The Dicks Deluxe is the Worlds Greatest Burger.
Pros: inexpensive, open late, menu stays the same
Eating at Dicks can only be likened to eating the worm at the bottom of a bottle of Mescal. You do it cause they talked you into it or you do it cause its the tradition.
The help acts like Dicks is the burger Mecca of the universe. Dicks is McDonalds without ambition. Asking for mustard on your burger gets the kind of reaction you might get if you asked the Pope to endorse abortion. The best part of Dicks is the exit that takes you away from this dive.
Pros: not going there
Cons: thinking this is good
cheap and affordable.... fries are real potatoes not frozen....a little on the greasy side
hamburgers are great.....get a deluxe......
Instead of a soft drink .....try there milk shake or a root beer float....they are very good ...althougth the lines are long it moves very quickly.....parking is sometimes a real hassle
Pros: price, real potatoes
I grew up eating these burgers and loved them. Returning as an adult I find the burgers average and the fries disgusting. The fries are so greasy they are limp from all the oil. You can see all the grease staining the bag as you walk away. Yuk! But it is affordable.
If you only have 4 dollars, you will eat well at Dick's walk in burger joint in Wallingford.
You don't have to drive, walk up, order and within minutes you have fresh (not frozen) fries and a choice of two burgers. Been around over 50 yrs, prices havent changed much. A working class place for any body.
California may have its "In-n-outs", but Seattle has Dick's. If you want delicious burgers & fries at low prices, this place is unmatched. The service is quick, the prices are reasonable, and they must put some sort of secret ingredient in their burgers that make you keep coming back for more. And their concept has not changed in over 50 years! IF you are fast-food afficionado, Dick's is a must-stop in Seattle. For those trying to find 'em, check out Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Wallingford, and Lake City.
Pros: great taste, good price, quick service
I have had hamburgers all over the world, from $40 hamburger in England, to a $.20 burger in Peru, and Dicks is by far the best burger for the money. Delux, fry and vanilla shake is $5.14, and all are spectacular!
Pros: Good, Cheap, Quick
The Deluxe is awesome, the fries the best, and the shakes hand-dipped. You can't beat the Dick's dining experience!
The great thing about Dick's Drive In is the excellent staff and the never changing menu. I've been going to Dick's for 30 years and now my kids love going there. We now live in Covington but make the long drive just to satisfy my hunger for 2 cheeseburgers, fires, and a shake!
Dick's Deluxe is the best! Granted it is a small burger compared to a double whopper, but who needs that anyways? I always get a dicks deluxe, fries and a chocolate shake. Sooo good!
Is the food pre-cooked, pre-assembled and pre-packaged? Yes. Are the burgers a tad greasy? Of course. Does any of that make Dick's a bad burger joint? Absolutely Not! With quick service, better french fries then McDonalds and affordable eats, Dick's scores a 10 out of 10 in my book.
Pros: Inexpensive, Good eats, Quick Service
I am from Portland, and any time I am up in Seattle I make sure to stop by Dick's. This is not the place to go if you want a hundred choices. But if you want a burger and fries with a coke or milkshake then Dick's is the place!
Pros: Burgers, Shakes, Price
OMG, I went to Seattle for a week in March and stayed right across from one of the Dick's locations. For the price I don't think you can get better! I tell you, I have had a serious craving for Dick's ever since I came back and actually went so far as to look at flight prices just to go up there for a burger and come back!! Now THAT'S good food! Can't wait to move up there so I can have it whenever I want!!!
Pros: cheap prices
Okay, so Dick's isn't know for its gourmet burgers full of choice, but still it beats a McD's cheese any day of the week. If you drive past this joint at 1am you will find a line for miles...it is the best "after a night drinking" food hands down (it makes Taco Bell seem like dog food). Its a place for a greasy burger and fries...sometimes the burgers are a bit over done, but still you just can't beat it. It is a Seattle landmark and anyone looking for a made to order burger can go somewhere else...us locals don't want you there any ways!
I live out of state now but everytime I come back home to Seattle, I head straight for Dick's to get my Deluxe burger "fix" and chase it down with one of their great chocolate shake!!! (ok, I'll admit I steer clear of the greasy, limp fries but my friends always order them w/tartar sauce.) I'm surprised to read some other readers low recommendations! They obviously DIDN'T grow up in Seattle eating Dick burgers and enjoying the nostalgia. Hey, even on cold, windy nights, Dick's has a line up of customers. Keep up the great burger tradition!
Pros: Nostalgic, Inexpensive, Good Parking
Dick's has three things working for it; great burgers, great (but greasy) fries, and great milkshakes. And you can't beat the prices.
The place can get kind of busy at night but it's worth the wait to grab some burgers and go.
Pros: Great Food, Great Value
The food here is good for a quick fix and a cheap way to satisfy that appetite but I wouldnt go so far as to label it first class fast food. The fries are limp and soggy, I prefer them crispy. As far as the hamburgers go, I personally cant see why this would be considered the best Seattle has to offer. I can undertand the nostagia long time Seattlelites have with Dicks, but even the local Denny's burger is a step above this place. Yes, I would come back here, if i was starving and happened to be around a Dicks, yes it is edible, but no, I dont consider this the "BEST"
Pros: cheap fast food
Try one of the top burgers from the other states!! This is a small wussy burger of fair quality in comparison - almost in the category of Castle burgers!!!! What a joke when I moved out here......... But people are cool, fires are great, and ambiance is pure tradition.
Pros: good fries, fast service
You've got to be kidding me! How is dicks on this list? I am a recent transplant from Nebraska, and I was shocked not to see Bob's Bar or the whole state of Nebraska for top burgers! Dicks has a great atmosphere, but the burgers are barely a step up from a McDonalds 69 cent value burger.....c'mon, this place has sub par burgers with a cute atmosphere ask any real beef person and they'll tell you.
Pros: cheap, fast, to go
Cons: , poor beef, bad burgers
As kids of the 1950's, we ended Friday & Saturday nights by dining at Ricardo's Club 19 (remember the "Dick's 19¢ Burgers" sign on 45th?). A bag of 5 burgers for a buck! - had to choke 'em down while they were warm, though (they still have a 19¢ burger, but the price has gone up). Now I can afford the Deluxe, living large in Grease Heaven...
Pros: It's still Dick's, Drive In
Cons: Parking lot will, always be too small
Dick's is cheap, but you get what you pay for. I've eaten there......more than once and found it edible. It works if you're drunk and out late and desperate for something to soak up the alcohol in your tummy.
Pros: cheap, open, won't kill you
Cons: cheap, open, won't kill you
Looking for good, greasy, yummy and cheap food? Dick's is your place. Whether it is for your drunk munchies, sick munchies or just feeling like a ton of grease and yummy fries, head over to Dicks. #1 forever. I lu you.
Pros: Grease is the word
Cons: Grease is the word
While visiting we checked out Dick's and found it good, but certainly not exceptional. The shakes were great, the french fries were inconsistent (we went twice) and the burgers were only okay. I can understand the charm of the place and appreciate the fast and friendly service, but if this is the best that Seattle has to offer...
Pros: good value, good shakes
Cons: somehwat over-rated
If you live in Seattle and DON'T eat at Dick's there is something seriously wrong with you!!!
Best fries and shakes in the Universe!!!!!!!!!
A Seattle tradition... A Seattle treasure!
LOng LIve DIck"s!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: wonderful, I love it!!!, I love it!!
Cons: to crowded on weekens, hard to get in and ou, TO CROWDED
Funny the old review was not done by me. That might explain how what may be the worst hamburger I have ever had the bad experience to taste is so highly rated. The fix is in. Will this be deleted or changed?
Pros: cheep, fast
Cons: nothing is that cheep, almost inedible
Great food...good prices...the kids love it...no matter what age!! Now that the kids are grown..they take their own kids there!! A whole new generation is eating at Dick's!!
This is a classic seattle fast food joint. The burgers and food is good, the setting and location is great
great burgers and service allways busy, needs more parking , great location allways go there when in town its a must!!!
Pros: great food, good prices
Cons: not enough parking, bigger restrant
