.

I chose Smart Talent when I was deciding to temp because they had a ton of positions listed on Career Builder. I went to ST's website and filled out the application, where you also paste your resume. No one contacted me for a couple of days so I called them. They were very nice on the phone and arranged an interview for me a couple days later. Oddly, she wanted me to email my resume to her separately. That was fine.

She did tell me on the phone that the registration process takes a couple of hours. Man, she wasn't kidding! They make you take this silly personality test based mainly around your views of illegal dr*gs and dr*g (City Search hates the word dr*g) testing as well as attitudes on violence and honesty. Then you have to take a MS Word test, an Excel test, and a typing test. Then they give you a super brief interview. After asking me some basic interview questions she says that they are "working to generate more opportunities" but the most available position they have right now is doing outgoing calls for the Muscular Dystrophy Association." I don't mean to be snooty but I didn't register with a temp agency to be a telemarketer.

The whole time I was taking my tests I could hear their sales guy in the office cold calling companies to try to find jobs for their agency. At the end of my interview I asked the woman in a low voice if there was actually any work available through their agency. She said it is extremely slow right now but they are working on it. So basically, no.

Look, the economy is in the toilet. It's not necessarily their fault they don't have any work. (BTW I will update this review if they do find me work.) What I object to is their posting many positions on Career Builder that flat out don't exist. I think that's really dishonest.
