The Bookstore Bar is proud to receive the nod for Best Hotel Bar in Seattle in Seattle Magazine's "Best of 2003." Conveniently located on First Avenue (and Madison), the Bookstore Bar can be entered from First Avenue or via the entrance to the Alexis Hotel. The Bookstore Bar features a wide variety of microbrews, imports, wines from the Northwest and from around the world, specialty drinks and coffee. It also boasts one of the largest selections of single malt scotches in the city, with more than 50 to choose from. The same dishes that Chef Warner offers next door at the Library Bistro can be ordered in the Bookstore Bar. Lunch entrees include fish and chips and smoked salmon salad. The Bookstore Bar not only permits the smoking of cigarettes and cigars, but it sells them too.

This is a great bar! There's a huge selection of beer and other drinks, as well as coffee. The food is fresh and has that nice Northwestern freshness. There are books for sale here, too- you can read and drink! What more could you want?

The decor of this restaurant was inviting but thats about it. Though, I have to admit, our server was also very nice and patient but the food was just not worth it. It shouldn't be called fine dining when they just give fancy names to mainstream dishes.

The atmosphere of this restaurant looked awesome on the outside. Unfortunately there was construction going on in the hotel that it's connected to, which made it much more difficult to get to. The menu was very limited - my husband and I wound up getting cheeseburgers for $12 each. The waitstaff weren't attentive at all. The highlight of the meal was my husband drawing a picture of my on the paper tablecloth. Stay away.

Stimulating?

I had such a wonderful time, I felt as though I was in my study. The server had so much personality and the food was simple and exquisite. I was surprised by their combination of flavors and it all went together so nicely. For example, I had a roasted pumpkin soup with fried sage and spiced nuts, I also ended up ordering beets, despite the fact that i don't like beets, I aparently love them when they are done this way.
I also noticed a rediculous and stuck-up guest sitting in the booth next to me and the server kept his cool the whole time and took care of their every stupid request, even when they ordered mac'n cheese with the cheese on the side.
Overall, it was lovley and I would recomend it to anyone.
Did you know you can buy any book in the bistro for $5?
Pros: Quiet, intimate, aesthetic, delicious
Cons: Not the fastest, stuffy guests

Horrible Experience

Worst fine dining experience ever! First the tuna tasted like rubber. Second the hommos had HAIR in it! How gross! This place should go out of business. I will never waste my money here again. PLEASE AVIOD!! Save your money and take it where the chef does not put hair in your food. I would have been happier going to MC Donalds.
Pros: music
Cons: everything else

Top notch breakfast/lunch spot
by patmccroch
wow. what a refreshing stop. I went in on a sunday morning for brunch. it wasn't too crowded and the service was stellar. the host made me feel instantly welcome, the waitress was incredibly attentive w/out being overbearing, and the manager even swung by the table to see how everything was going but didn't stay so long that he interupted my meal.
The food was excellent. I had a ham, cheddar, and wild mushroom omelette that was fluffy and flavorful. The mushroom were sauteed just right. The bread looked/tasted home made, and the strawberry jam was delicous. I also had a side of applewood smoked bacon that I would definitely recommend. My hats off to great great great morning spot. I will return.
Pros: service, breakfast, atmosphere
