Charles & Rose Ann Finkel are pioneers in making & marketing craft beers. They opened Pike in 1989 concentrating on beers of exceptional quality. Pike's beers are distributed, on draft & in bottle, in pubs, restaurants & stores in the NW. The Pike Pub is the showcase for the brewing company. Each ale - Naughty Nellie, Pike Pale, IPA, Kilt Lifter, Tandem, Monk's Uncle, & XXXXX Stout, is served properly in a working brewery. Local, seasonal, delicious pub fare includes fresh mussels & clams, hand crafted bratwurst w/Chef Gary's WA State apple sauerkraut, artisan cheese, smoked salmon, local wines, beer to go, & gifts. Pike received the 2006 Where Magazine, "Best local bar and pub". Displayed on 5 levels is a museum telling the story of beer from its discovery; to the pleasure of people who hunted & gathered for a living; to the modern micro brew mania that started right hear in Seattle.

The Scene
The Pike puts tradition on display with brewing equipment that winds through the open-air space and a Museum Brewery that highlights the history of beer. Patrons can sample distinctive Northwestern ales such as the scotch kilt lifter, the creamy porter and the roasted stout. The bar also offers several guest drafts and carries an impressive range of bottled beers. When it comes to food, the Pike sticks to tried and true pub grub, with many offerings made fresh from Pike Market ingredients.

Key Points

  • Home of Pike Ale
  • Local, Seasonal Pub Fare
  • Wine, Artisan Cheese, Tours

The Inside Scoop

  1. Look Good - Want to see the actual brewery? Call ahead to make an appointment, or ask your server if anyone is around to take you downstairs.
  2. Know Before You Go - Tourists predominate during the summer months, but locals never stay away for long.
  3. The Extras - There's plenty of spaces that groups can reserve; call for details.

Good Local Brew

by Meghan W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 997

Great place for appetizers, a beer, and to watch a game. They have a lot TV's in the bar so you can always watch your favorite game. They brew their own beer I would definitely recommend trying their sampler of beer!

Good beer selection , good food, good location

by Lori S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 106

This pub has a nice selection of their home made beers, as well as great visiting beers. I found the best taking weiss beer here (similar to those I found in Germany, which are the best) of any place in the USA.

good food and quality beer

by Dan S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,420

This pub has a great location right off the Pike Place market. Sometimes we have had a wait to get a table. The beers are always tasty. The musels and the pizza are great!

Better than before!

by Valerie B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,706

First visit was visually dark and Stephen King-ish like which made for no fun. But since they've redone the interior, its a LOT nicer. The beer is good, staff is friendly and the overall atmosphere is genuinely fun and inviting!

Great after work hangout

by soundersfan

I love this restaurant and have been a number of times. The beer is above average and the food has been great most times that we have come. The only drawback that it has is the location. It is always such a pain to get down to the market and find parking but when you do this is a great reward. Just remember to ask for the number for the restrooms, I guess that they try to keep it for patrons only but I always forget the number on the way after a few beers.

Pros: The beer choices and chowder

Cons: location

Great Atmosphere - Poor Food

by FusmanFamily

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon. After waiting 15 minutes to be seated, we were unfortunately served poor quality food to our child. My son is 5 years old. He ate the chicken tenders and french fries. Within an hour he was sick. After a doctor's appointment, we were told he had bacterial f.p. from eating here. Poor business to serve bad food to kids! Will not be return customers.

Pros: Fun Atmosphere

Cons: Poor Food

Don't Eat Here if you have a family!

by FamilyDining

Took a group of friends visiting from D.C. Thought this would be a great way to show them Seattle.

The automatic gratuity for a 'large group' should have tipped us off because we were only 8 people. 4 of which were little kids.

Once ordering food, it was VERY hard to get our waitress to bring anything extra (like a refill of water while choking on spicey dinner).

The food was about a 3 star, out of 10. Most of our dishes were way over priced, and 2 dishes came out less then satisfactory. Salmon was dry, rice was under-cooked, fries were soggy.

Not to mention....how does a kid-sized mac n' cheese cost $14.95?

The highlight? Mini Doughnuts afterwards. They are at the top of the stairs on the street.

Pros: Great Location, Cool decore

Cons: Everything Else

Convenient and tasty

by locallisa

We were in Pike's Place Market as tourists and were hungry for cooked seafood after seeing all the vendors. A gentleman in one of the shops suggested the Pub for fish/chips. We were told a 15-20 minute-wait, but it was less than 10. We had the Halibut and chips, which was delicious and a huge portion. I shared w/my son and the waitress offered to order a "shared-plate" for an extra $1 with another piece of fish. I declined and found the regular order was enough for both of us! My brother had a plate to himself and almost couldn't finish it. The tartar sauce was great, very mild, so you could still taste the halibut. The Iced-tea was great with a hint of passion-fruit or something, yummy, and refreshing! Other than her offer to help our order, our waitress was adequate, not very friendly, and we had to ask for more of anything we needed, such as ice-tea, coke, napkins, and glad we were next to the station or it may have been hard to track her down. We'll be talking about that halibut for a while, yummmmmmmm!

Pros: the halibut, great portion size, great iced-tea

Cons: waitress could have been more friendly and available

The changes are great!

by JohnThorton

The changes at the Pub over the last year have been great! The beer is fantastic and always a good reason to stop in. With the changes it just got better, better service, better food, cleaner. They totaly redid the back little bar area into a fun place to hang out with groups. SO much better than the dark and dirty bar that it was before. My firends and I have made the back bar area into our Friday happy spot. $5 for some huge nachos!
If you love beer and you havent been to the pub in awhile, you have to go.

Pros: Best Beer in the City

Cons: Have to wait to get into the dinning for on the weekends.

Now, THIS is the way to do a Brewpub!

by weatherboy

I don't know much about the food. I didn't see anything that truly jumped out at me on the menu and I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the hummus with pita and it did the job. I wasn't there to eat though, I was there for the beer! As I always do when I go to a new brewery, I started off with the sampler. I was so impressed with the beers that they offer! I liked many of them, and that's not too common for me. (I'm pretty picky!) Not only that, but they also have an EXTENSIVE list of other beers available from all over the world. This place gives you two menus when you sit down. One menu is for food and the other is for drinks. On the drink menu one side is dedicated only to their beer selection, amazing. The Pike is probably one of the best brewpubs I've ever been to, if not THE best. The layout of the place is nice, like other people have noted, but the bar outside of the game room is pretty small. I didn't find an open seat when I went in the early afternoon. But, there's lots of space throughout the joint, so no worries. There's a second bar in the game room, but that room is kinda dark and the bar itself wasn't very well lit. Aside from needing better seating at the bar, The Pike is an awesome brewpub and worth a trip downtown to check out. I'll be going back again for their beer next time I find myself in Seattle!

Pros: Great Beer, Great Selection, Plenty of room

Cons: Parking is a pain, Seating at the bar could be improved

Best Place to Host a Casual Event!

by tamalie_

I recently hosted a birthday party for about 50 people at the Pike and it was so much fun. There is a large area on the top level of the restaurant that easily accomodates a group. With the vast amount of food we ate and numbers of pitchers of beer we ordered - I was shocked at how low the bill was. Our server was friendly and amazingly efficient and our guests all enjoyed the food and beer (especially the kiltlifter). There's even a TV and VCR to show embarassing videos of the birthday boy or girl! Because the group area is on the restaurant side, some guests were able to bring their children. When the Pike closed at midnight, the rest of us headed out to the clubs. A truly great evening - and best of all - I didn't have to clean up the next day. Thanks PIKE!!!!

Pros: Food, Service, Beer

Cons: Parking

Great for hanging with friends!

by eastlakegirl

I'm not always a beer girl, but I love trying all of the beers they have at Pike Pub! Tasty! It's a great place if you want to be able to hear yourself think and be able to chat with friends over a fun game of pool! And on top of it all, it's not soooo crowded that you can't get a table and sit around. Great place to bring the posse!

Pros: good value, not crowded, great beer

Cons: no parking, slow service

Great Bartender!

by himbeer

I went there for one of the first bars I've ever been in in Seattle and I have to say the bartender was great! Not only that but everyone in the place were very friendly. Great Beer and well ventilated smoking area for those of us that can't handle smoke.

Pros: beer, bar staff, ventilation

Interesting Beers

by lord_humongous

The interesting beers they make here are definitely the highlight of the Pike Pub & Brewery (I would say the Kilt Lifter is the best) but the food is also very good. When tourism is in full swing this place can get pretty full but it's definitely worth the wait. Speaking of waiting, the slow service is the only real downside to this place. But if you are a beer enthusiast you should definitely try the Pike Pub & Brewery.

Pros: Good Beer, Good Food

Cons: Slow Service, Crowded, No Parking

Fun Downtown

by remefaso

The Pike is a great place to hang out after work or for a fun lunch. The beer is why people come, but the food is great too (especially the BBQ Chicken or Veggie Nachos - stay away from the burgers). However, the very best part is the service. Bruce and his crew are knowledgable about Pike's great brews and really know how to make you feel at home! It can be crowded before Showbox shows, but sometimes there are band member sightings.

Pros: Beer, Service, Nachos

Cons: A tad expensive

Good, but only good

by troutonfly

Good beer. Good burger. Good fries. Good (almost poor) service. A good experience, but good in a city full of great restaurants isn't good enough to ensure a return. I'd classify this place as one at which you'd eat if you were hungry, it was close, and you didn't want to bother looking for anything else.

Pros: Beer

Cons: Service

Don't visit Seattle without stopping in!

by RichHamilton

I travel a great deal. This affords me the luxury of eating out in a multitude of restaurants across this fine land. Honestly, I have found very few that match the atmosphere, service and quality of the Pike Pub. Everyone always makes me feel at home, the food's good (be sure to check the fresh sheet before making your decision) and the beer flat out rocks. In this era of lowered expectations for service and quality, stop in a place where they truly buck this trend!

Pros: Food, Beer, Service

Cons: Can be a touch noisy

Great service in the heart of downtown

by beerluver

I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. The service is GREAT! I go there frequently for lunch and the service has always been attentive and courteous. And the food usually exceeds my expectations for a pub!

Pike rocks!

by ryanmaher

If only we had a place like this in Washington, DC! What a place-with a great location, great beer, food and service, why worry about the space needle or a salmon run? Stay here and enjoy....cheers to Pike for putting together a great place to relax...

Pros: Great beer, Great Food, Great Service

horrible service

by fluer99

Have been here twice now and not sure if I'll ever return. Both times the service was unbelievably slow. Our server never came to refill our drinks; we had to go and get her. The burgers are alright but the steamed clams are barely consumable (cold and tastless). The beer is good but again, we had to hunt down our server for refills. It wasn't even busy when we were there so I don't know what was going on with that. Mediocre food and bad service ensure that I won't return.

Pros: beer, atmosphere

Cons: service, food quality

Good location + yummy beer

by SueOstermann_Citysearch

Convenient to the Market, The Pike is worth a stop for drinks and appetizers in between sightseeing and/or shopping. Lots of great beers on the menu and the BBQ Chicken Nachos are awesome. The crab chowder is bland and the more serious dishes on the menu aren't always successful. Stick to the basic pub grub and you'll walk away happy.

Pros: beer selection, pub grub

Get the Kilt Lifter

by DanFazio_Citysearch

Not so sure I'd go here to hang out, but the beer sure is tasty. The Kilt Lifter scotch ale is a standout.
