In Short
This cozy spot in the bottom of an apartment building is everything a neighborhood bar should be--varied, comfortable and affordable. Any given night might feature well-dressed operagoers mingling with scruffy hipsters at the white plastic bar or watching projected indie films from candlelit tables. The drink menu offers a small-but-solid selection of wine, specialty cocktails and other Spanish drinks like sangria, Kalimotxo (red wine mixed with Coke) and Clara (light beer with grapfruit juice).

Key Points

  • full bar & specialty cocktails
  • small plates & sunday brunch
  • daily happy hour

The Inside Scoop

  1. On the Menu - There's a wide selection of tapas, ranging from bocadillos (sandwiches) to items like Frico--strips of fried cheese with a sun-dried tomato and cream cheese dipping sauce.
  2. Happy Hour - Sunday and Monday nights feature all-night happy hour, with cheap wells and pints of Rainier.
  3. When to Go - This is a great spot for a pre- or post-theater nosh--but if you don't have tickets, make sure to arrive after 7:30pm to avoid the rush.
  4. Know Before You Go - Live music and DJs are in the bar most weekend nights.

I enjoy Solo.

by jimbolah

I go to Solo at least once every two weeks. The drink selection is very nice, I really enjoy the staff, and the food is good. The food portions may be a little lean but it seems that Solo not meant to be a place you go for dinner, but for drinks and semi-exotic appetizers. And they are good. I give Solo big thumbs up and that's why its one of my most frequent stops.

Pros: Friendly and artistic environment.

Cons: Would like more live musical variety.

Great bartenders, good food

by randizzler

Solo is a great neighborhood bar! It's a great place to go before or after a show, on the way to a movie or just to hang out.The live music and d.j. nights are always a blast and the staff are hilarious and inviting.

I recommend checking out their food menu too. They have some tasty meat and cheese plates (amongst a ton of other menu items) and delicious hummus!

Check out Solo if you get the chance, it's definitely one of my favorites!!

Terrible customer service

by joshbell74

Solo has a very rude staff, weak drinks and bad food. Very dirty too - the bartender was outside smoking more than working the entire evening. did not wash his hands before serving.

Pros: Goood Sound system

Cons: Dirty, rude waiters with bad, overpriced food and drinks.

slow service, bad food

by annekhill

I've never written a review before, but felt that my most recent experience at Solo warranted it. The first time I went there was right after they opened -- I thought the service was friendly, but a bit slow and the food was so-so. I went back last week to see if it had improved and was sorely disappointed. The place was full, but not packed and the kitchen was super slow -- it took me almost 40 minutes to get a small appetizer. I ordered the risotto-balls which were disgusting -- the risotto was crunchy in the middle, had a gloppy/gluey consistency and absolutely bland, there was more flavor in the vegetable oil it had been fried in -- really gross.

The servers are friendly, but that's about the only plus this place has.

Pros: friendly service

Cons: slow service, bad food

swanky queen anne fun

by nicole13

I think the ambiance of Solo is charming. They always have an eclectic movie playing with excellent music. I haven't been disappointed by their drinks or tapas. It gets rather busy and the service slows down during that time but it doesn't bother me. Everyone is friendly and I love sitting on the couch with friends. Their menu is delectable and I plan on going in to try the things I have yet to sample. I even adore the gummy candy they put in my drinks!

Great bar with even better employees!

by madamelush

I love Solo and everyone who works there! Michael and Val are awesome... they always are friendly and considerate. Drinks are always quality and the atmosphere is fun. I've had MANY fun nights at Solo from the grand opening to a friend's going away party and have never had anything to complain about (except for maybe only having one bathroom... but what an awesome bathroom it is!). Go there for their awesome pita plates and interesting drink selections.

Pros: Great employees, great drinks, great appetizers

Cons: Only one bathroom but well worth the wait!

Cheers to going Solo....to Solo

by corrie

Solo has a very "Cheers" atmosphere, combined with a very cool, trendy low-lit lounge vibe. It is a great place to take a date after an event, or to just go "solo," which I prefer. The art on the walls features local artists and each month they switch it up! You never know what will be featured, but you know it will be cool and different. The bar tenders are friendly and have a very "Seattle hip vibe about then." This bar really encompasses what a Seattle bar should be. I have gone in after work at 5pm for their great happy hour, and gone in on the weekends when they feature great local bands! I love that everybody knows my name and makes me feel at home no matter what day, night, or crowd is there!

Pros: Great cool atmosphere, nice people, great art on walls, makes you feel right at home, very friendly bartenders!

Cons: No outside seating, small venue, one bathroom

Attitude, Awful Customer Service, Expensive

by kim345

I've been to this bar multiple times since I live in lower Queen Anne. The first couple times I was there, the customer service and drinks were just sub-par, but the last experience I had there will keep me away forever. My friend had a DJ set there a couple weeks ago, which required me to go--everything went well until it was time to pay my bill. Simply, I had two drinks and they charged me for three. When I realized this and went to the bar to clear up the misunderstanding, I first waited for 10 minutes while the owner chatted with the regulars and ignored me (he saw me waiting). When I calmly told him the situation, the OWNER of the bar proceeded to argue with me and not back down (mind you, he wasn't even my bartender, and I was SOBER). He didn't even bother to clear up the situation with the bartender who actually served me. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a bar and I will never go back. Also, the bar is pretty uptight, and full of poser hipsters. Go to Capitol Hill if you want a real hipster artsy bar with an awesome staff.

Pros: Location.

Cons: Customer Service, Prices, Crowd

Very Unique

by jlfoodextraordinaire

Its like going to gallery opening anynight of the week. A unique setting with small bar height tables in the middle of a quaint art gallery. Very cool without all the Art snob attitude. Small homemade food plates. Try the Peroshki and the Turkish coffee is a sweet treat. Happy hour 5-7 even better!!
