I'm a military member currently in bed in Tampa, FL awaiting spinal surgery. Clara, my puppy, has been in pain for 4 plus weeks, favoring her front left or possibly right leg. I have not been able to get her to a vet because I have been bed bound and my spouse has been working full time and taking care of me. Finally, my 75 year old mother came to help us out. We made an appointment with Dr. LaFrank, whom I know not only from the vet but also outside of the clinic. We specifically asked for him because Dr. Harris misdiagnosed my other dog with two cancerous lumps and said he needed surgery right away. Well, turns out one tumor disappeared in 3 days and the other was almost gone on the day that he was supposed to have surgery which was a week later. Bottom line is, it wasn't cancer and Dr. LaFrank confirmed that prior to surgery. I don't trust Dr. Harris and only wanted my other animal Clara to be seen by Dr. LaFrank. Well it takes a lot for my mother to get ready for a trip with a dog and get Clara to the vet. When she arrived, they asked my mom if it would be OK if Clara is seen by Dr. Harris. My mom said no, as she and I discussed, and my mom said she would wait for Dr. LaFrank. They put my Mom and Clara in an exam room and in came Dr. Harris. At that point I'm not sure what happened but the lady at the front desk, with whom I spoke on the phone later that day, said, "it's not our fault that your mom (my 75 year old mom) didn't realize it wasn't Dr. LaFrank that was seeing your dog Clara." I guess if my mom knew either one of the doctors or knew that Harris was a woman and LaFrank was a man, maybe she could have made that distinction. Speaking with my mom, they were bound and determined not to let my little Clara be seen by the doctor of my choice. Instead she had to be seen by the doctor who almost caused my other pet to be operated on for no reason and misdiagnosed CANCER.
So after my little Clara has been limping around my yard and home for 4 weeks, suddenly, she didn't limp at all, none whatsoever for Dr. Harris. This to me is absolutely impossible to believe but that's apparently what Dr. Harris claimed. So after an examination Dr. Harris said there was nothing wrong with my little girl. The same doctor that said my other dog had cancer, and didn't, evaluated Clara and said nothing was wrong with her even though she's limping still to this very moment.
After getting this information from my mother, I called Dr. LaFrank and left a message for him to call me and I was told that he would when he was done with the exam he was currently giving. He never called. I called back towards closing time and asked again to speak with him and was put on hold for ten minutes. At the end of the ten minutes the front desk clerk told me that he went home. Needless to say that the conversation turned not so nice and the lady on the phone told me that they would never treat my mother the way that they did and that it was my mom's fault, my 75 year old mom's fault, that they made my Clara be seen by the wrong doctor. Even though we made the appointment for Dr. LaFrank and that my Mom said that she would wait for Dr. LaFrank. It was still her fault, all while I'm laying in a bed in Tampa, waiting on spinal surgery this Friday. I still don't know what they charged us but most importantly, my POOR LITTLE CLARA IS IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND STILL HAS NO RELIEF. I'm so sad for my dog. I can't do anything at all to help her out. I now have to find another vet prior to my surgery and hopefully get her in to relieve some of her pain. Why couldn't that doctor just give her pain medicine or some sort of anti-inflammatory medicine? I was giving Dr. LaFrank's vet business a chance because I liked him and I considered him a friend. No friend of mine would let my dog go though more pain and also not return or answer my call when my dog's health is at risk.

We have a lovely beagle, whom we took for teeth cleaning to Dr. Lefranc, at 2nd Ave Animal Hospital, in Columbus, GA. Dr. Lefranc, has extracted my dogs teeth (all front 5-6 teeth) without my consent, and looks like this was all a mistake anyway, which he refuse to acknowledge. All his front teeth are gone, they were healthy teeth. We had him examined by my vet and when he examined him as well, he just told us about a side teeth which was broken that needed to be extracted. We agreed on it. When we called him today to see what happened to his teeth (his gums were swollen, so we though we couldn't see because of it), he stated that his teeth got lose during the surgery, then he told us he was not present when surgery was performed. So, obviously something went wrong, he refuse to explain us in honesty or acknowledge the mistake. He started to ignoring my calls as of now. He is unethical and unprofessional.
My dog is the sweetest thing ever, very calm and never even barks or bothers anyone. Now his health is ruined, at the age of 5-6 only.

Best vets I have ever used. Very caring, put the animals first, consult with pet's parents willingly taking whatever time is needed to help the pet - and sometimes the parent(s). First vet I have ever seen dancing and shouting because a very sick and dying dog recovered fully. Many thanks for helping get the cancer from my 2 year-old. He is now back to his annoying self and snuggling under the covers at night and enjoying his new Harly-Davidson collar.

GREAT VET CLINIC!!! I am so happy to have found this place. We are stationed on Ft. Benning and 2nd Ave Animal Hospital is so much better than services we have received on post (you and your pet are not just a number here). 2nd Ave. has great staff who are very nice and they really care about the animals.

I'm sorry to say but I am quite disappointed with 2nd ave Animal Hosp. I have taken my dog there on several occasions. But twice she has come out of there sick, and they act like it's no big deal. I think otherwise. I will be looking for a different place to take her.

Business Response:

It is a very big deal to us that your pet got sick and we are very sorry. Even though we care about your pets, it doesnβ??t mean that we want to see them in need of our care. Here are some great tips on how to keep your pet from catching a sickness when coming to see us. 1. Make sure your pet is up to date on all vaccinations. 2. Bring your pet into the office in a portable kennel and if that is not possible make sure they do not greet other pets. 3. Try not to let them sniff around a lot in case objects are contaminated. 4. Make sure to wash your hands. You can become contaminated and your dog can lick your hand and catch something. Pets can get sick just like kids and when taking your pet to the Vet there is a good chance that other sick dogs are there or have been there.

Dr. Lefranc is the best! You can tell he really loves animals and cares. I called to get my sick kitty in and they got him in that morning. While my cat was there they even encouraged me to go visit him. When I did visit, Dr. Lefranc took the time to talk with me and see if I had any questions. I would highly recommend this place!

I've been with Dr. Lefranc since 2003 and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dogs. He was there to help when three of my dogs passed within 8 months of eachother and he helped me make arrangements for each and everyone of them. He is truly one of the most compassionate vets I've ever known. I'm so thankful for him and his wonderful staff.

We were so happy to find Dr. LeFranc! Every time we brought our dogs into Dr. LeFranc, he and his staff were awesome! They took their time with the dogs, and never made us feel rushed. I've been to other vets who come in the exam room grab my dog do their thing then leave! Dr. LeFranc is not like that! He pets our dogs, talks to them, talks to us and is truely fantastic! We are so sad that we are moving from the area and are goin to have to find a new vet!

They were very helpful to me. I found a stray on Ft. Benning and they were willing to help me find him a home. They are very low cost, but the service is excellent. When I called I asked for a quote for how much everything would cost me and it was a very accurate quote. They are good people. They also give a military discount for our service members. They are experienced and quick.

My dog needed a procedure done which pretty much every other vet in town that I called wanted over $250 to perform. I took him to Dr. Lefranc and I got out of there at just over $150. I don't take my dog there just because Dr. Lefranc is the "cheapest" either because I don't want CHEAP care for my dog! Dr. Lefranc is so kind and caring and, of course, knowledgeable. I recommend him to anyone who has a pet that they truly care about!

My daughter "bought" a puppy through the adoption at the Petsmart in Columbus, GA. For the $200 fee she got a voucher toward spaying the pup. When she took her to the 2nd avenue she didn't expect to have any additional expenses; however, without them telling her in advance, when she picked up her pup, the total was $80! for additional medications. After calling a few vets and my own I found that other vets in Columbus use the voucher and don't charge any additional fees!! My daughter called them and intially they were going to refund her money but then called back in an hour to say the vet had a policy to not refund money for medications. I just made another attempt to reason with them to get her money back..with no luck. The office manager was very nice and went to talk to the vet...but he wasn't so nice! Totally unethical behaviour!!!! You think when you are trying to do the right thing to adopt a dog...this vet would support! Not true

Dr. Lefranc is amazing! His prices are reasonable and his service is exceptional! Last summer I had my great dane fixed at a local facility. I was in clinicals for nursing school when my husband called and told me he had experienced a reaction to the anesthesia and that I needed to come to Columbus. When I arrived at this facility they brought Gunner out to me in dirty and looking horrible. His scrotum was HUGE! I asked if it needed to be looked at and they told me no, that it was infection and they'd give me some medications for it. I knew better! My sister said "take him to Lefranc" so we did. I walked in the door crying to hard to explain, Dr. Lefranc gave me a hug and assured me he would take care of my boy, not to worry, and that I could check on him any time. The office never got annoyed with my calls and kept me updated throughout the emergency surgery to correct the bleeding into the scrotum. They didn't even get upset when Gunner was feeling better, escaped from his pen, set off the alarm, and wreaked havoc on the office at 3 in the morning!! When I was finally able to pick him up and take him home, they brought him out to me clean, smelling, great, and feeling good! I've never had such a wonderful experience, and will never use another vet, even though I have to drive an hour to get to Dr. Lefranc!!!

We have been knowing Dr. Lefranc for several years now. When he was working at another animal hospital we found him to be exceptional in all areas that you would want a vet. His compassion towards people and animals is unsurpassed. His knowledge and advise is always exceptional. Since our first visit with him we knew that Dr. Lefranc would be our vet. If you want a vet that you can trust, know that Dr. Lefranc and his staff are the best.

2nd avenue animal hospital is the best place to care for your pets. The staff treats you like you are family and to me they are. I resently had to have my Weim in there and have surgery on a hematoma on his ear. It took three tries but you all know what they say ,3xs is a charm. Never did Dr. LaFranc ever give up he tried a new procedure on him for the first time and it was the best thing. To this day you can't tell what ear it was. A very special and wonderful person he is. He loves on my Kane who loves to sit in the chairs. He is very caring toward any animal. I wouldn' trust anyone else with the care for Kane but with Dr. LaFranc. In my eyes he is the best there is. I wouldn't take My Weimaraner anywhere else. Hats off to you my NUMBER ONE VET Kitte Hicks

Anyone seeking a exceptional Veterinarian, I would encourage you to consider 2ed Animal Hospital. Thanks to the magnificent help and devotion of Dr Lafranc and his staff at 2ed Avenue Animal Hospital, I am blessed to have more enjoyable years with my long time feline companion Ferdinand. Unfortunately last month Ferdinand had to under go a major operation. Perineal Urethrostomy. Because of my own discomfort about the surgery, Dr Lafranc tried all he could to prevent it. The Dr unselfishly researched different options and placed numerous phone calls to other Veterinary professionals. He tirelessly researched the internet for different options that might be available to us all. Dr Lafranc met me at the clinic after hours and kept me updated by phone. His devotion to Ferdinand was unwavering. After weeks in the hospital we had no other option but to proceed with the surgery. Thanks to the talent and dedication of Dr Lafranc, Ferdinand is once again home with me and things could not be better. It is beyond doubt that Dr Lafranc has a special gift. He is not only an incredible Doctor, but he is truly a great man. Dr Lafranc has an extraordinary staff that stands beside him in his quest to save and care for these little creatures. I can not express enough, my gratitude to them one and all, for reuniting me with my forever feline, Ferdinand.

We recently had to make the decision to let Gator, our foot warming rottweiler, go. Dr. LeFranc and his staff were wonderful in helping us with this difficult time. They are so kind and compassionate, We have three other great and loving dogs at home- I will not trust them and their well being (ours too) to anyone but Dr. LeFranc and his staff. In addition to being super people, their new clinic is fantastic, it really makes you feel welcome and important. Thanks to you all at 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital!!

I visited your new clinic the other day to have my yellow lab, Copper bathed. I have never been so impressed with an animal clinic. It is state of the art. Copper was pleased also. He came home smelling like blueberries (even if it only lasted till he went and rolled in the yard).

Thanks Dr. Lefranc & staff

I've never been very faithful to one vet, but after seeing Dr. Lefranc that changed! I've been with him for many years now (before he had his own practice) and my pets have never been healthier or happier! He stands out over any other vet I've been to because he genuinely cares about each animal he sees and it shows! His staff is VERY friendly and his new office is a must see!

2nd Avenue hospital really came through for me in a scarry situation. My 2 year old femaile dog just had puppies while I was at work, and when I got home and found them, she had chewed their umbilical cords all the way down. It scarred me to death, because they wouldn't stop bleeding. I called up to the clinic at 6:00 and Dr. Lefranc was just going out the door. But he assured me they were fine, but he would wait for me to get there with all of them, to check them out. I raced there, and he looked them all over, and even ckecked out my moma dog to make sure she was fine. It was the best thing knowing someone else cared enough for me and my pets to go out of their way, when they could have easily just said come in tomorrow. I will forever go to 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital, and will recommend him to anyone.
