I was very excited to come to this dance studio until one day during my child's dance class the office manager, Tippy, came out of her office furious with the small children waiting for their siblings. She immediately scolded the young children for not sitting still and quiet. She then posted multiple signs throughout the studio, which implied that if siblings of dancers could not sit absolutely quiet they will be removed from the studio. I was shocked. I thought this was a kid friendly environment until I saw Tippy lose her temper infront of those small children. I cannot believe that someone would work around children with such a temper and an obvious dislike for them.

Riverside is such a wonderful place for anyone that's wants to learn and have fun. The classes are beyond what I expected for my daughter, she enjoys it so much! The prices are reasonable and they really do "teach" the students. I recommend this place to anyone that wants fun, structure and great prices!

Generally, we were unhappy with how RPA was run. We paid for 7 weeks through Parks and Recreation, but the last three weeks of class were going to be devoted to a recital that you had to sign up for the next session to attend, and there was a lot of pressure to pay for the costumes. It seemed like a bit of a scam. Also, the class was supposed to be a tumbling/dance class, but they spent about 10 minutes of the first class doing very basic tumbling and then never did it again.

But the real reason for the low rating was the teacher in my daughter's class. From the first class when my 3 year old daughter didn't understand the concept of a line (as she'd never been asked to stand in one alone) she was singled out by the teacher as a "bad listener." She isn't. She's been in soccer since she was 1.5 and she's in preschool and she's as good of a listener as any 3 year old. At the end of the 2nd and 3rd classes that we attended, the teacher actually lectured the 3-4 year olds in the class about their poor listening. We decided not to continue with the class when instead of talking about all the wonderful things she did in dance, all she would say after class was, "I was a bad listener, I will try to be better next time." That's not what I was looking for when we signed her up for a "fun" activity. To make matters worst, we started having issues with her crying hysterically when someone tried to redirect her (at home and at school), and continually saying, "I'm not listening, I'm in trouble" even when she was doing nothing wrong. She hasn't been to dance in over 2 weeks and we're still trying to undo what this insensitive teacher did to our child.

I would not recommend them. A month ago I signed my daughter up for Creative Dance through Vancouver Parks and Rec. We purchased all the required dance attire for our 4 year old who was SUPER excited to start her dance class. We show up on the first day to find out the class was cancelled! The Director, Annie, asked if I got the message that class was cancelled, I told her no and asked when she left the message. She stated she left the message at 11:00 the morning of my daughter's first day. When asked why she didn't give more notice, she blamed Vancouver Parks and Rec for not contacting me! Not only would I have expected more than a few hours notice that the class was cancelled, my daughter was crushed. I am enrolling her at Naydenov's instead.
