I've been a member of this club since shortly after they opened, Its a great place if you never come in contact with management or need assistance about a concern.

This started with them selling me on how "Family Friendly" the club is, my 12 yr old daughter is too young to join (use machines) and too old to play in the little kids area (really designed more for early-mid grade school kids), but they would figure it out - she can go swimming or sit and watch TV. This was due the the rules not being closely monitored for a few months and they got skipped over. After a short time they tightened up all the rules - and it became clear that there was no place for her to go, so I would not be able to work out or do anything.

After my contract was up, I checked everywhere in Tacoma, LA Fitness was like going to a slimy used car lot, The "Y" is expensive, I grudgingly found myself going back to Allstar Tacoma as nobody could even touch their prices.

Shortly after joining again, they started a youth Martial Arts program. I'm thinking...FINALLY! Something for my daughter to participate in! She has suffered some set backs due to lack of self esteem, and social skill issues due to living with an older brother with Autism. In 6 months time, this martial arts program has really started turning her attitude around, its been amazing. The instructor was an awesome guy, just has an amazing touch with kids.

I state WAS because they JUST CANCELED THE PROGRAM. 20+ kids and adults just got screwed. There are no other programs for her, and once again, Allstar fitness gives me a reason to hate them.

Pay the extra money, go sign up at the YMCA, or go buy a used rack of weights from Goodwill. Trust me, you wont regret the decision.

Pros: Price

Cons: Management, NOT family friendly, no recourse for any concern

I don't have a membership here but I have visited it many times with my sister who is a member. Allstar fitness is set up nicely. If I lived closer I would have joined. Place looks classy and swimming pool is fun for all ages.
I love the fact that there is an onsight childcare facility free of charge while u workout and an area for youth to go if they are not old enough yet to be on the workout floor.

My son and I are members of this gym and we love it. The staff is super friendly and the trainers are patient. The price is good and if you pay a year advance, you get an extra 3 months free. My 13 year old loves going there because of the basketball gym (which is useful especially in the winter) and both my boys love their swimming pool. We even took a couple of aerobic swimming classes and had a blast. They even give you the opportunity to do some rock climbing. They have everything there.

My husband and i were both members at all star fitness tacoma. Recently we had to cancel our memberhip since my husband got deployed to iraq and i moved to florida. We canceled in advance, gave them copies of my husbands deployment orders and signed our cancellation papers which stated the last draft from our bank account to be in june. July came around and this place drafted the amount for both memberships!! When contacted managment i got told they didnt have the orders and therefore didnt cancel our memberhips. When i asked why am i holding cancellation papers in my hands that state the type of evidence i handed in in order to cancel..., also signed by a manager..., i simply got told: I dont know. So i gave them another copie of orders, and was assured the amount will get refunded within 7 days. 3 weeks later, the money still didnt show up so i gave them a call once again only to be told that "Olga" (manager i guess) wasnt in today and she would return my call the next day. Of course i didnt get a call back, so i called back AGAIN only to find out she didnt know anything about this, never got my message from the Front Desk. Apparently their corporate office never got the cancellation from the unprofessional staff at all star in tacoma and im guessing in a few days they will draft from our bank account once again. This place is just simply ridiculous .

AllStar is a great place to work out, has lots of equipment, swimming pool, etc., but I am dissatisfied. When I joined with my son & grandkids a couple of months ago, It was for the purpose of providing a little break once in a while for my son (who is unemployed) and my grandchildren from the boredom of everyday stuff. However, after a couple of months we found that we weren't using the club often enough to make it worthwhile. When I notified AllStar of our intention to discontinue our membership in one month, they advised me that I had signed up for a one year membership. We had gone through a sign-up procedure with an AllStar representative-- sign here, initial there, etc. when we first joined. I thought that the rep. had indicated that we were signing up on a month to month basis, "no obligation, quit anytime you want". I may have been mistaken; I guess I should have read the fine print. Being on social security, it is a bit of a strain on my budget, so I made what I thought was a reasonable and acceptable offer to the director of AllStar - that I would pay the difference between the monthly rate and the annual rate for the two months that we used to satisfy any shortfall to AllStar's budget. The director of AllStar refused my offer, stating that I had signed a binding contract, and I am obligated to pay the remainder for TWO memberships for TEN months, approximately $700.00. I also contacted their corporate headquarters in Seattle with the same result. I fully intend to honor the contract that I signed, but SHAME on me for not reading the fine print! So, while I admit that AllStar Fitness has done nothing wrong, I would suggest that anyone thinking of joining, read the fine print first!

The person who said it is Olympic-sized pool has obviously never been to an Olympic Pool. I swam at the pool in Munich where Mark Spitz won all the medals, it is MUCH bigger than the one at All Stars. The pool in Tacoma is only 25 yards long for lap swimming. Anyhow, the gym is very clean, well-maintained, the sales people are not jerks and the trainers do not have bad attitudes. The price is good for what you receive monthly access to : aerobics classes, spinning, boxing, and all kinds of free measurements for body fat and free use of the pool. Its a great package deal. They need better hours though. The weekends are the worst. They should make it 11pm-M-Sunday instead of closing early on weekends. I can never get in my weekend workout because of that. 24 hours is not necessary, but later than 8pm would be Great.

the Manager never returned my calls, some trainers are very rude and they pick and choose who they are nice to.
After they have your commitment and your money they are done with you.

I have visited Tacoma Allstar Fitness many times and I love going there. They have an Olympic size swimming pool for both laps and free swim. There is even a special shallow section for younger kids to play while you are working out. They have tons of room both upstairs and downstairs. Any type of machine, bike, or equipment you need for a workout I guarantee they will have it. They even have an upstairs daycare to drop off the kids while you have a workout. Not to mention a rock wall and tons of exercise classes to choose from.
