Excellent Italian Cuisine!

by Anonymous

A local Italian restaurant with a real, live Italian cook. Accommodates both small and large groups. Great wine, great food ... there isn't a dish that you can go wrong on. And their Tiramisu is superb.

Indeed! Best Italian in Seattle!

by Favel

Congratulations Bistro Baffi for winning the best Italian restaurant in Seattle. We always felt that chef Michael's food was the best Italian in the city , and were ecstatic when he opened his new restaurant in Burien. We used to go to his Beach House cafe on Alki for 12 years. Now we have to travel even less to enjoy his food. I love chef Michael's pink sauce, and I used to crave it tremendously when he was gone to Europe before opening Bistro Baffi. I like all his dishes with pink sauce , but my favorite is "Penne alla Mike". This pasta has scampi that are actually cooked in shell ( in order to preserve the flavor, as chef Michael explained it to me once), wild mushrooms and spicy pink sauce.
Last night, I decided to try the lobster ravioli with Alfredo sauce, lobster mushrooms and truffle oil. The ravioli melted in my mouth. The sauce was perfect, not too heavy, and the combination of mushrooms and truffle oil gave this dish several different layers of pure eating delight ! My husband had grilled Chilean sea bass , with sun dried tomatoes and cognac sauce. His comment suggested that fish like this, one can only find in Italy or Greece. "Pure heaven" , he managed to mumble between his bites. We had L'Ecole Syrah with our dinner , and that was a very good bottle of wine. As we were geting ready to leave, I was already thinking about our next meal at Bistro Baffi.

Pros: never disappointed

Cons: none

I loved it!

by miamatovic

What makes Italian food do delicious? I asked myself many times, and I bet many people did too. Is it the spices, or the heart they put into cooking, maybe the Italian-it must come out good-spirit? Whatever it is, one person is aware of the answer, that is Michael.
If you love elegant evenings, spent in a very much European way with a glass of the finest wine, this is your place! The atmosphere is just amazing with all the warm colors, everything is so...personal! Isn't it a great feeling when the chef comes straight to your table, asking how you liked the ordered specialty? That's the way to go! That is exactly why I always feel like eating at Bistro Baffi! Not to mention the out of this world delicious meals.
If you found yourself hungry (rather than sleepless) in Seattle, do not hesitate to try this restaurant! You will love it, and you will get addicted to the tiramisu!!

Pros: atmosphere, service, food, friendliness

Cons: I wish you had one restaurant on every corner

Highly overrated second class Italian

by Rondog66

We have visited Baffi about 5 times over the last 2 years, mainly to give it a second chance. After the last try in October 2009, there will be no second chances.

The food is reliably poorly cooked and poorly prepared. My ravioli were tough and tasteless, and the pesto (sic) wasn't even blended, just torn basil in oil. The chef uses his signature pink sauce (a mixture of tomato sauce and cream) on just about anything-the night we were there last, it was minced clams. Steaks advertised as strip loin are laden with gristle. On one visit, two of our party ordered lobster cakes that were so spicy hot that they were inedible.

Our waiter was so loud that when he entered the room talking about 'this gentleman needs a spoon and this one a fork and the lady needs water' etc., that all conversation stopped until he left. What still riles me is that he insisted on serving us appetizers we clearly did not want, and then charged us for them. One of our party did not even eat shellfish and gave it to another diner.

This is a neighborhood restaurant that should be a welcome addition, but regrettably the food quality and consistency are so poor that we have stopped trying.

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Cons: Lousy food, poor service

Best Salmon in 46 years

by BMorelan

My fiance told Chef Micheal that his Salmon was the best he had had in his 46 years of life. He has travelled the world, and has eaten at the best restaurants, so that is quite a compiment.
This is our favorite restaurant. This is the only restaurant where the Chef/Owner greets EVERY table, not just the VIP guests. Warm and welcoming!
Thanks, BB!

Pros: Mouthwatering Food/Friendly, prompt service

Great Happy Hour Menu

by Bobby44

My fiancee and I went to Bistro Baffi and were pleasantly surprised to find out that they were serving Happy Hour Menu. I had the most amazing pork tenderloin with wild mushrooms and my fiancee had spaghetti Stella with grilled chicken. We had a bottle of Stinger Zinfandel and our bill including the gratuity, still came out to less then $60. Thumbs up, great job!

Pros: consistently good,affordable

Very Disappointed!

by lj122

We went to Bistro Baffi with hopeful expecations, in search of a truly wonderful Italian restaurant. After reading the reviews we decided to try Bistro Baffi. . . . . what an incredible disappointment. Frankly, we will probably never return. We had 7:30 reservations, and didn't have our drink order taken for 20 minutes. When our wine was opened, it wasn't even sampled - they just poured two glasses, the bottle was set on the table and the server walked away. Another 10 minutes passed before a morsel of bread appeared on our table.

We sampled the bruschetta - nothing special, lacked flavor and we asked for some balsamic to jazz it up a bit. For our dinner we had the highly acclaimed risotto and scampi with the "pink sauce". . . tasted more like chef boy r dee, and the prawns were totally overcooked. We also had the "veal scallopini saltimboca" STAY AWAY FROM THAT if you know what is good for you!!!!! For $28 it was a piece of overcooked veal covered with a chunk of rubbery smoked mozzerella cheese that overpowered any other potential flavor. It was a total waste of $120. We left and went up the street to the 909 and had some dessert which was delightful! Wish we had gone there for dinner. Oh well. . . . . .live and learn!

Pros: focaccia and pleasant servers

Cons: everything else

The service at Bistro Baffi is absolutely the best. It can only be topped by the excellent dishes served up by Chef Michael Vujovich. Everything on the menu is fantastic. I wait in anticipation to hear the nightly specials. Pick one and enjoy. It is always a pleasure to enjoy a leisurely meal with good friends at Bistro Baffi!

Pros: Penne Arribbiatta, tiramisu!

Cons: Not close enough to where I live!!

I dream about Michael?s Risotto

by dealdale

16 years ago when we moved to West Seattle there were few restaurants and we quickly found our way to each. We called a new restaurant - the Beach House - and asked what kind of restaurant it was. Michael (the one man show at the time) answered ?we are your typical neighborhood restaurant?.

We hiked our way down to the Alki and came to understand Michael?s meaning of neighborhood. His was not a typical U.S. ?neighborhood?, but one that had the true European sensibility. Michael and Dinka are gracious hosts and their staff is well versed in attending to the details of creating a fine dining experience but with the warmth of a local neighborhood feel.

We were pleased when Michael reopened with his second restaurant south of us in Burien. While it is further away than a stroll through Schmitz Park, it is still one of our favorite restaurants to share with friends or family or for a romantic evening. The food is exceptional and Michael?s kitchen is always willing to make accommodations for special dietary needs.

Dale is addicted the Michael?s Risotto con Pollo e Fungi and although I love wandering around the menu, I have a fondness for the Penne Arrabiata (great spicy kick), the Lasagna Napoli (never had better), and any of Michael?s fish dishes. For those who don?t tolerate wheat, pick any risotto and make sure you check out the flourless Chocolate Walnut Cake!

Pros: Pink Sauce, Neighborhood Ambiance, Great Owners

Cons: Too far for a walk... oh well

Hidden gem in Burien

by jazztini

We had one of those meals on Saturday that we are still smiling about on Wednesday. We started out with clams Rockefeller from the evenings specials that left us sopping every drop of sauce from the plates with our bread. My date had a steak wrapped in prosciutto that had the most amazing flavor. It was literally better than the steaks we had at El Gaucho a couple of months ago-- at less than half the price. The owner, Michael, makes you feel like you're having dinner with his family. This was our third visit and certainly not our last!

Pros: food and service are fantastic

Cons: out of the way

Excellent food and service!

by Siff

For those West Seattlites who remember "The Beach House" on Alki, this is Michael's and Dinka's place moved to Burien. While we still hate the fact that they moved away from our neighborhood in West Seattle, Lori and I still make the 12 mile trip to Burien for the delicious meals on a regular basis.

The atmosphere is quiet and upscale, the service is wonderful and friendly, and the food - wonderful.

Lori enjoys the Salmon on Risotto, I enjoy the Pasta with sausage, the lamb looks really good and we still haven't explored the full menu. The salads, breads and other amenities are fresh and flavorful.

Highly recommend the place for a quiet evening together or a celebration group setting. The wonderful and attentive staff can handle any occasion. A full bar and good wine selection only helps the celebration even further.

Hope this helps for those seeking another great place to enjoy the evening.

Doug and Lori

Pros: Consistent deliciousness

Cons: Not next door to us anymore!

My new favorite restaurant !

by bickei

Bistro Baffi was highly recommended to me by my business associate, who had his Christmas party there. Upon arriving we were served fresh homemade focaccia. We had a hard time deciding between the specials, they had 8 of them. I decided to go with the wild white king salmon and my friend chose risotto with Chilean sea bass. For appetizer we had stuffed mushrooms that were served in a real spicy sauce. We decided to have bottle of wine , just to "dilute" the spices. The wine we chose was Bistro Baffi Villa Toscana. Even though we were full we decided to split the tiramisu. The server told us that if we didn't like it he wouldn't charge us for it. We loved the food very much but the tiramisu was the highlight of the night. We will definitely be back, and I am thinking of having my 50th Birthday party at Bistro Baffi.

Pros: Great food, great wine selection, private room, friendly staff

Cons: none

Local and Delicious!

by jessmcnulty

Bistro Baffi was a hidden delight. Tucked back in the corner of a Seahurst retail strip mall, it is truely a gem. Warmly decorated inside, it makes you feel you are in a quaint and cozy italian cafe. Charming and friendly, the staff is welcoming. Your water glass is never empty and ever changing nightly specials are a real treat. The "pink sauce" is to die for, not to mention topping off your meal with a piece of tiramisu. Huge wine list.

Pros: Service, Quality of Food, Ambiance

Most personable restaurant owners in Burien

by teatrosgodfather

I have only lived in Burien for 5 years, a north end guy all my life and a connoisseur of great dining and entertainment experiences, no matter where they may be. Seattle in general has many outstanding establishments. As a new resident of Burien, I found many nice eateries, but one stood out amongst all the rest. It was because the food and drinks were great, but what was even better was the personal, genuine touch given to the food and patrons by the owners Michael and Dinka.

Michael, owner/chef, is remarkable with his Italian charm and charisma. I have taken the time to read all of these reviews and find it quite amusing that so may people feel the same as I do except for one, the review by mireid. I have to question her agenda, sounds like a jealous restaurant owner. If she would have taken the time to read all the other reviews on Bistro Baffi, I'm sure she would have realized how silly it was to make the issues she did. Maybe she had a bad experience at Bistro, we've all had bad experiences at any given restaurant, but choose not to go back if unsatisfied to that degree.

Whatever her agenda, it has no merit with me, and according to alot of these reviews, no merit with them either. Once again, Bistro Baffi is our favorite restaurant in Burien and I highly recommend it. Check it out, all these 5 star reviews can't be wrong.

Bistro Baffi is the best Italian restaurant in Seattle

by WSeaFamily

Bistro Baffi is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is consistently fresh, well cooked and seasoned, and just plain delicious. I highly recommend the risotto. It's made with a spicy pink sauce that is amazing. I like to order the risotto with chicken and wild fresh mushrooms and my husband orders it with prawns. We both leave very happy. The owners of Bistro Baffi have done an excellent job in transforming this corner building into an unexpectedly comfortable and enjoyable spot to have a nice relatively inexpensive meal. Micheal, the owner and chef, is a delightful character...he makes you feel like family, he truly appreciates you coming to his restaurant so that he has the happy opportunity to share his kitchen with you. We have shared Bistro Baffi with out-of-town guests who were very happy and impressed with our restaurant choice.

Pros: Grilled meats & fresh fish, amazing risotto, excellent herb bread, quality ingredients

Cons: not within walking distance of my home :)

Best Italian food in town!

by GordanaSapina

I've been a big fan of Michael's food ever since he owned a fabulous italian restaurant on Alki. I was very sad when he closed it, but thrilled when he opened a place in Burien. I don't have enough superlatives to describe the food in this place, it's not only the best Italian food, but the best food I've ever eaten! There are so many favorites to mention: pasta Pescatore, penne ala Mike, salmon risotto....and ah, that Tiramisu, everything is so tasteful and yummy, you don't ever want to go to any other place to eat. This restaurant comes with the whole package: great atmosphere, super friendly staff, clean, impeccable place with artisticly done decor and above all, every meal is prepared with passion. It's a great place for parties too. Seattle is so blessed to have Michael in town, I just pray he keeps this restaurant for a long time. If you are planning to visit Seattle, this is your place! I give it kudos, two thumbs up and highly recommend it to even the pickest eaters-you won't be dissapointed GARANTEED!!!

Pros: great food, outstanding service, super friendly staff, romantic decor

Local Hide-away with true international flavor

by wsugina

January 20, 2009 - Likes it - Who would have thought in a hidden little corner of stores in the residential neighborhood of Burien you could find authentic cuisine of Montenegro. It's far from the over sauced plate of noodles found at most places that claim to be authentic. The fresh ingredients show through each plate. I can honestly say I may have had the best cut of pork I have ever tasted. I started off with the deep earthy flavors of the stuffed mushrooms with a pink sauce that was kissed with just enough spice to leave you wanting more. I finished up with a flaming shot of Sambuca and tiramisu and the only was to adequately describe this desert (that I have had a million other times so I know this one) would only be adequately summed up in a sound... Mmmmm. The charismatic chef Michael visits your table, has a welcoming and warm staff all the while in a quaint romantic setting. The list of wines alone is worth the visit.

Pros: Very Romatic, authentic

Cons: the location is a very local hideaway

Welcome Back Michael Vujovich!

by TomasR

We were happy to discover that Michael Vujovich had returned to the area with Bistro Baffi Cafe. The Beach House Italian Cafe on Alki was one of our favorite restaurants, and we were sad when that restaurant closed. The spicy pink sauce at the new restaurant is as good as ever. We keep looking for tiramisu that is better than Michael?s, but it doesn?t appear to exist. In summary, I would encourage anyone who seeks a romantic European setting to try Bistro Baffi.

Pros: Service, Spicy Pink Sauce, Tiramisu

Cons: None

The most amazing restaurant in the Seattle/Burien area

by GiniJohnson

Each meal is prepared with love and attention. The specials sound so good each visit that I find it hard to make a choice...I day dream about the food and only want to go there when I go out to eat. Sometimes I even get it to go when I do not have time or choose to go home to have dinner with my dogs! The wine is lovely too. The decor is warm and inviting. Even the restroom is pretty. I really like the wait staff as well. We go to Bistro Baffi for every special occasion that comes along. It is my favorite hands down.

Pros: it is the most delicious food I have ever tasted.

Another Average Restaurant in Burien

by mireid

For all of you who think this is the best Italian food in Seattle clearly we havent eaten at the same restaurant. Everything here from the dry tough steak to the various bland pastas to the soppy bruschetta with very dated cheese is strictly average and your pay for it big time. Drive to Burien for this? While visiting Seattle you "discovered Bistro Baffi"?! Dearly I hope you found something else worthwhile during your visit. You must be crazy. Stick to places like Salvatores in North Seattle or the Pink Door downtown or even La Rustica in West Seattle. Now those are amazing places vouched for by my guests from Italy and the East Coast. I wouldnt dare run them past a place like Baffi. Or even stop by my place where I can whipup a meal that would embarass this place.

Anyway I know the 4 other reviews I read were probably written by staff or friends and I admire the attempt this place makes at being decent. However as a 3rd generation Seattle native I know whats out there and dearly wish someone would come along and create some kind of decent spot in Burien. I keep hoping.

Pros: Close to home

Cons: Just another blah meal in Burien

Best Italian Food in Seattle and Beyond

by JovanaEvans

Bistro Baffi is my favorite restaurant. This is where I go when I want to feel great. There is nothing less than superior about this place. I am a frequent visitor and can speak to many meals on the menu. l still haven't had an average meal there, the dinner always exceeds my expectations without fail. Food is delicious and fresh, the interior is warm and pleasing to the eye, the staff and the owners are wonderful and friendly. This is simply a place where you will feel re-energized and satisfied. Give it a try, it's only a short drive from Seattle and well worth it considering that it not only compares to major Seattle restaurants, but well surpasses them in quality and atmosphere.

Pros: great food & wine, best tiramisu, attentive staff, friendly environment, great vibe.

Recently while visiting Seattle, we discovered Bistro Baffi. It is a warm, inviting restaurant with some of the best food i've ever had. The lasagna is creamy and rich, the salmon, delicious and moist. Everything we tried was delicious. The wines are wonderful and the desserts (especially tiramisu and chocolate walnut cake) delicious. All this is presented in a beautifully decorated and warm, romantic atmosphere. Treat yourself to a great evening anytime you're in Seattle.

best risotto anywhere - truly authentic Italian food

by saintb

We dine out frequently and Bistro Baffi is our favorite in Burien or the Sea-Tac area. If you are looking for great food in a wonderful European ambiance, elegant but casual, small but full service, then this is the place. Among my favorites - the seafood risotto, the plato rustico, any of the salads, the contadina, my husband loves the lasagne and the chicken dishes - not to mention the foccacia bread made fresh daily and you won't find it anywhere else. Same for the flourless chocolate walnut cake - amazing! Everything is fresh and unique - you won't find the same old broccoli or peas as your accompaniment. We bring friends often, and they keep coming back too. There's a lovely garden patio for outdoor dining, and a delightful private room in the back, perfect for groups of 8-10. Excellent service, and don't be surprised to see Michael the owner/chef bring your entree to your table. It's the perfect setting for a romantic dinner, or impressing your boss or friends or if you want a taste of Italy and don't have time to fly to Amalfi!

Mmmmmm..... I don't really know what exactly is in that "Spicy Pink Sauce" that Mike the chef puts in his pasta dishes, but I'm pretty sure I wanna bathe in it! I have been there a couple of times and it has just always been consistantly awesome, and the new folks I bring with me there are always very impressed... It's in a kind of funky location, but that really does not matter once you get a taste of the love that is poured into the food.... Anything else just tastes like the Olive Garden... Check 'em out if you have not already!

Pros: everything

Cons: finding it the first time is a challenge

Best food in greater Seattle area! (perhaps anywhere!)

by edwardss10

We were fans of Michael Vujovich's culinary delights when he owned the Beach House on Alki, and were thrilled when he opened Bistro Baffi in a quiet little place tucked into the Seahurst area west of Burien. The food and service are exquisite- consistently outstanding, and definitely our chosen destination for celebrating any occasion..or for that matter, just needing "a treat". We are always greeted with smiles, hugs and our preferences are remembered. The ambiance is very pleasant- richly decorated and yet, not pretentious. The flavors in all of the dishes tend to offer little surprises- subtle blends of spices that burst in your mouth. The portions are hearty, and make it difficult to choose. (We recommend bringing guests and having everyone select a different entree, so that everyone can try a bite!). The penne Contadina is my favorite: spicy, but not too hot. Another favorite is their special seafood risotto with asparagus- always fresh, firm fish, and with subtle delectable flavors in the sauce. And, we certainly cannot forget the home baked foccacia bread and fine desserts: Tiramisu and walnut cake to die for. They also have recently bottled some lovely red wines under their own label to add to their formidable selection. (They also have a full bar, wonderful after dinner aperitifs and espresso if you prefer with your dessert.) No matter what you try, you can?t go wrong.

Pros: Flavor, Value, Service

Cons: they don't deliver :)

Pros: Food, Service, free parking!!!

Cons: a bit off the beaten path

Best Italian Food Ever

by sealmom

Recently I had occasion to be in Seattle and was looking for a good place to have some real Italian food. I was at the airport and was going to be meeting a few friends and so discovered the Bistro Baffi not far from the airport. The decision was made. There were six of us and we each ordered a different dish and all of us were delighted with our choices. The service was supreme, the ambiance delightful and the food absolutely outstanding. Of the six meals chosen, all were above our expectations. I do not think there is a meal on the menu that would not be superb. Then we had dessert and the Tiramisu is, if you will excuse the expression, to die for. For us, it was a grand evening with wonderful service, good food, good wine and definitely a place to revisit on our next trip to Seattle. Thank you to the owners and staff at Bistro Baffi!

Cons: I could see no downsides

I used to enjoy Chef Michaels great food several years ago when he and his wife, Dinka, had a little place on Alki in West Seattle. I was sorry that he left the beach and was waiting with great anticipation for him to reopen. I finally made it to Bisto Baffi this past Friday night and was thrilled to find the same great food in a wonderful new space. I went there with my date and it was a very romantic comfortable place to enjoy a great meal. We were greated by the friendly staff. Michael came out of the kitchen to great us and Dinka showed us to our table. We ordered a bottle of wine that Michael brought out and opened for us, it was great. I ordered one of the specials of the day, it was a pasta with spicy pink sauce ( made fresh each day by our chef) topped with a large amount of fresh clams, muscles prawns, chunks of salmon and on top a baby lobster! I can not tell you how amazing it was... My date enjoyed fresh salmon and fettuchini alfredo, cooked to perfection. Dinka surprised us with home made tiri misu that we enjoyed with coffee that reminded me of Italy.

It was a perfect meal in a charming space served by very friendly and attentive staff. It was just like the old Beach Cafe days...only better! I can't wait to go back.

Best meal in 22 years

by lkemp

Best meal in 22 years, comparable to the 5 star restaurant "Orchids" at the Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu,Hawaii. 5 cheese pizza to die for, warm environment inspite of rainy weather. Reservations suggested . The chef Michael is a very talented person, the seafood, salads, pasta & pizza preparation & presentation were excellant, wine selections were great. The restaurant was packed with contented patrons. Being from Los Angeles We wished for a restaurant like this near us, the customers were greeted with a warm smile and even hugs, truly a warm family restaurant. Once this restaurant is discovered by the local people it will be necessary for this charming business to expand to accomodate its clients. The food was so great we went back the next night for the encore presentation and were once again treated to a fantastic meal. The only thing lacking from the Bistro Baffi was an ocean view. the staff was warm and provided excellant service. If you want an excellant dining experience don't miss Bistro Baffi if you are in the Seattle area.

Pros: Great food and ambience

The very best Italian dining-outstanding food and great customer service

by alki

I have dined at the Bistro Baffi on three or four occasions. In each case, I found the food to be outstanidng, the service excellent and the wine list far above the normal standard. In each case the broschetta was excellent, as was the very fresh green salad--prepared with oganic ingredients.

My first dining experience included a chicken and pasta dish that was excellent. The dessert was tira misu with a lemon sorbet on the side. The second dinner included copper river salmon with pasta--outstanding; again, the tira misu with the lemon sorbet on the side, Wine with the chicken and pasta was a Three Rivers Syrah (excellent ), and the second dinner included a superb 'L Cole merlot, 41 (Seven Hills).

Without any hesitation, I have recommended the Bistro Baffi to many of my friends, who enjoyed silmilar delightul culinary expereinces.
