These guys did my bathroom a while ago. We told them what our budget was and what we wanted to do ($8000 for a very small bathroom with no adding or moving of walls, and the only major thing we were really replacing was the sink), and they said they could do it. They charged us a $1000 design fee, and I have yet to figure out what that paid for. I was expecting several design ideas in our price range to be drawn out and presented to us so we could pick what we liked. When no such ideas were happening, my wife and I ended up coming up with the design.

After we decided what we would do, they tried to sell us some ridiculously overpriced cabinets and fixtures from their venders (marked way up, no doubt) that would have brought us over our price limit by 3k. I ended up getting all the cabinets and fixtures we needed online for a fraction of the price. After I bought my own stuff, they gave me a rather amateurish looking 6? x 6? drawing of the bathroom with the overpriced cabinets they had planned on selling me (I guess this is where my $1000 design fee went?) They ended up hiring an outside contractor to do the actual work, because their guy was too busy. That was OK because the contractor did a nice job, but I have since hired him to do other work on my house, so I know what he charges for labor and I know that Spokane Kitchen and Design added about a 70% markup onto his labor.

At the end of the day, I did get a nicely remodeled bathroom for around $8k, but it was no thanks to Spokane K&D. I think we could have done that for 3 thousand dollars less if we had gone straight to the contractor. I knew I would be paying more by going through them, but I was very busy at the time and I was hoping not to have to be involved in the remodel. I though they would have some good ideas about how to maximize space in my small bathroom, but we basically ended up designing the bathroom for ourselves, and I spent more time arguing with them about the fact that they told us they could do what we wanted within our budget, and after receiving the design fee, gave us a quote for 3k more than what we had originally planned. Spokane K&D turned out to be little more than a big, fat, expensive middleman.
