We had them come out to evaluate our fireplace for a leak. It's rarely been used as it gives our family a headache since day one. I realized it's contractor-grade, but it'd suffice if properly installed/sealed. Ladder One came out (after charging for the privilege) and tried probably 15 times over the course of the conversation to sell us a new one. He insisted that it needed to be cleaned terribly (despite having had the problem since it was new) and that the contractor who built the house had failed to install it properly. After quoting us the cost of having the repairs done (and the $75 service visit was SUPPOSED to apply to the cost of the repair) I've never heard from them again. I've called roughly a dozen times and emailed at least 3-4 times. The BBB site lists them as out of business (they are NOT, unfortunately) and I've never gotten a complaint to successfully go through due to their buggy website. My quote was similar to Karen V's - $600.00.

Stay FAR away from these guys, they just want your money. I'll look elsewhere to give my business to.

I`ve been dealing with Darrell since 11/11/10. I had a fireplace insert installed and some other misc work done. The insert doesn`t operate , he said because there wasn`t a ground on the plug . The fans were $250 extra . The work I asked him to do hasn`t been completed to this day.I would not recommend him to anyone. It`s sub standard at best. His reliablity is null.I had a chimney remove a vent for the range, furnace liner he said I needed.Had a small amount of awning cut away, which was supposed to have a guitter installed on.so far no gutter, no fireplace totallt ignored And some roofing, for this I was charge$6691. Wouldn`t deal with them again.

Darrell from Ladder One LLC was dispatched to our house to attempt to repair our gas fireplace insert. Darrell inspected the fireplace and determined that the part required to fix the fireplace would be expensive and recommended that the fireplace be replaced. He informed us that the original fireplace was very old and the service tag on it had expired back in 2001. As such he stated that it was a natural vent fireplace and a newer direct vent fireplace should be installed instead. He left a ??quote?? with us stating that a new Kingsman brand IDV33 fireplace would cost $2,200 installed with a standard surround. I inquired about upgrading and added a ceramic brick insert. Darrell informed me that the ceramic insert was an additional $100. We decided to go ahead with the purchase. Our account was charged on February 18th 2010 to the sum of $2,306.00. We set an install date of March 5th 2010. On March 4th Darrell called and said he would be unable to perform the install on that date. On March 11th Darrell arrived to install the fireplace, at that time he informed my wife that an additional part was required, a direct vent kit, and forced her to write him a check for the sum of $340. I spoke with Darrell on the 11th of March and stated that I understood the contract was for $2,300 and would include installation and I thought that was for all parts. Darrell informed me that he forgot to include the additional part needed. I asked him how he could have forgotten the part, the contract stated installed, so wouldn??t that include all parts needed? Darrell said that he made a mistake and I had to pay for it. I asked him how a professional fireplace installer would forget that part, Darrell informed me that it was the most imported part of the install and he never forgets it. Again I asked if it was the most important part how did he forget it, Darrell became angry and stated that he had been in over 400 homes in 4 months from the time that he inspected my fireplace to the time he gave me the quote. I told Darrell that he left the quote the same day that he had inspected it (its dated Oct 5th 2009), he changed his story to having left it one month later. I asked him if the price of $340 for the part was his cost or if he was marking it up, and at that time I offered to meet him in the middle for price and still get it installed. Darrell told me at that time he was not marking up the price of the direct vent part and could not lower the price of the part, again this is false. At that point I informed Darrell that I did not want the fireplace and he needed to refund my money and pick up the fireplace, Darrell told me that we were ??done?? and hung up on me. On March 15th, Kelly from Ladder One called my wife to see if we would pay cost for the direct vent part of $150 (this is how we know Darrell was lying to me on the 11th) and go ahead and get the fireplace installed. My wife told Kelley that we had already offered Darrell to split cost of the part, and that offer was already turned down by Darrell and we would only take the fireplace installed for the price of the original contract. Kelly said that Darrell refused to install for the original price. In addition Kelly told us that the fireplace was ??ours?? and we could not return it ?? their contract they refuse to respect says that they don??t have to return or refund the money. Then I spoke with Kelly at Ladder One, she said that her previous statement that the part was only $150.00 was false and that she would only offer $150.00 off of the price. I told Kelly that I had basically already offered that deal to Darrell and he refused. Kelly also admitted that Darrell had an anger problem and that was why he had refused. I told Kelly that their contract stated that I had 3 days to return the product from the purchase date, but that they didn??t give me the product until well after that. Then Kelly stated that I had no choice but to keep the fireplace. I have disputed the charge with my card company and with PayPal the merchant bank and both have sided with me thus far. I have also filed a complaint against them with the FTC. Also I have located the recommended missing vent kit for $145.00.

Professional and knowledgable. The owner spent time inspecting the job site, discussed options and the estimate was free. It was a complex woodstove repair that required moving the unit, building a ceiling support system, replacing pipe and reconditioning the stove. The work was done on time and while we requested changes during the course of the work, the bill was very reasonable. We will use Ladder One LLC again.
