I came to the Renton AAMCO for a scheduled appointment. Long story short, I ended up left the place after waited for 30 mins passed my scheduled time. The guy at the front desk just simply rude and giving me an attitude of not happy to horror the voucher they sold on Amazon (because they only get to keep half of the $). He was testing my patience and trying to see how desperate I was to want to use the voucher. Guess what, I could careless. I went home to cancel it and got a full refund from Amazon. What a waste of time. It's my 1st time visited AAMCO, and will be my last also.

I don't normally review businesses or products, but for a $4,000 purchase, I feel the need to warn others. I did my research online and found many negative reviews for Aamco of Renton. However, I noticed new ownership, and many responses to these negative reviews. It seemed as though they were trying to rid themselves of the bad reputation. This, coupled with their 10 year "warranty", led me to have my transmission rebuilt here (Greg's Japanese had excellent customer service and far better pricing, but wouldn't guarantee their work past 24 months). Don't make the same mistake I did- they have this reputation for a reason, and his name is CHRIS.

I saw his name pop up in other reviews, and thought, surely he couldn't have survived multiple changes in ownership if he really was that bad. But right off the bat, he is a dishonest, incompetent, unreliable yes-man.

The day I dropped my car off I informed him that the reason was simple- a 10 year warranty. Never once did he offer the information that it's only 100% coverage the FIRST year, then 90% the second, 80% the third...etc, etc, until you pay 90% of the cost of repair if it fails in the last year of warranty. Had I known this, I would have went to Greg's. Only upon payment was I offered this information. Upon further review, there is a small disclaimer on the website about this, but full disclosure/explanation before I paid would have earned my trust. Hopefully, future customers will be explained this 'minor' detail.

While my car was being worked on, the brakes were to be inspected and repaired as needed. Chris said they would do an inspection for free and then let me know the estimate. I knew the brake pads were in need of replacement, but did not know the extent of wear (they were completely worn down). I called to follow up during the week and Chris said they were working on it. They weren't. Or didn't. When I picked my car up, Chris wasn't there (I was told his wife or girlfriend was throwing up) and no one seemed to know if the brakes had been replaced. Their was someone helping out from a different Aamco who knew less about my car than you do. I was told to call Monday. When I followed up with Chris, he told me the brakes were fine. A few days later, the squealing started. I called him back and asked if I can bring the car back so they can actually work on the brakes this time. I work in Seattle, and needed a loaner car, which Chris said he would work on getting and then call me back. He never did. I called the next day, he made up some ridiculous story, and said he'd call back. He never did. What terrible terrible customer service. If there was no loaner car, just let me know and I would go elsewhere!! Turned out to be over $700 of damage when all was said and done (I had the work done at Budd & Co in Seattle). Had Chris done his job, my brake pads would have been replaced, and I wouldn't have needed new rotors. Thanks, there's an extra $500+ I didn't have to spend.

I also asked if they could take a look at the trailer hitch, which seemed to be squeaking, and maybe tighten up the nuts and bolts or whatever it needed to not squeak anymore. This apparently never happened either. When I took it to Budd's, within 5 minutes of being on the lift they noticed major damage to the undercarriage, upwards of $2500 to repair. Now Aamco doesn't do body work, but Budd's offered to show me the damage while the car was on the lift, and it was easily seen, even by someone with little to no car knowledge such as myself. If i had known that the total to get my car going again would have been $6,650 ($4000 (transmission) + $2500 (undercarriage) + $150 brakes = $6,650 for a 2004 Honda Element, blue book around the same for a car in fair condition. My car has major cosmetic flaws as well), I would NEVER EVER EVER have had them do the work. I would have considered it totalled and bought myself a nice used car for around the same.

Basically, Aamco performed reconstructive knee surgery on a car that was paralyzed from the waist down. What a waste of time and money, two things of which I have very little. CHRIS DESERVES TO BE FIRED FOR THE INCOMPETENT EMPLOYEE THAT HE IS. Terrible customer service skills, complete apathy towards his job, dishonesty, and overall lack of any particular skill. Without this bad egg/weak link virus of an employee, Aamco of Renton might be an honest, profitable, friendly and competent establishment. Man, do I wish I rolled the dice on the warranty and went to Greg's. Oh, and by the way, the transmission still jumps. Good grief.

I'm going to school full time here in Seattle and when my transmission started slipping I started to panic. I don't have time or energy to devote to getting my car fixed, especially a big repair like my transmission. My dad told me to call
