I have been a patient of HFM for 25+ years but in the last 5 yrs, the quality of service has decreased immensely. It's sad b/c the doctors are great but the incompetence and insolence of the staff (mainly the billing and front desk staff) overshadow any efforts of the docs. I will not be returning to HFM again.

Members of our entire family (2 parents, 3 children) are patients of HFM. We (husband and I) have been parients for 15 years. Children (now in teens and 20s) have been patients since they left their pediatrician. We have had nothing but positive experiences with the staff (doctors, nurses and other staff) during this time. I would highly recommend this practice to friends, neighbors, colleagues, etc.

I use to work for herndon family medicine the front staff is not the people you speak to when you call. they have a call center. however the nursing supervisor is lazy and the practice administator is a psycho literally. the doctors are wonderful people and some of the nurses are very helpful. overall the practice is completely unethical and show's favoritism to employees who they like as friends. the staff excluding the doctors do not really care about the well being of the patients, nothing gets done on time. that is the reason i quit. i wouldn't recommend anyone go there. the rooms never get properly clean under OSHA guidlines and they have alot of stupid rules for pt's to follow. i hated it, they make one person handle all of the prescriptions for like 10,000 pt's which causes that person to fall behind of getting meds to patients on time. stay far away as possible

I consider myself a very reasonable person but all I can say about this place is that is, by far, the worst medical practice have ever had the misfortune of visiting. Front desk = flippant; nurses = zero information; doctors = egotistical without actually displaying any real skill or knowledge to back it up and when you ask questions, they get defensive...all I can do is laugh, because really, they are THAT bad.

I tried to get an appointment with my Doctor but was told I could only see the Nurse Practitioner, after visiting the office she gave me prescriptions that only made my symptom worst, I called back (4) four days later and she wanted me to come in for the same condition instead of calling in another prescription. I explained to the nurse that I am unable to go to work because of my situation and really needed the medication, she ignored me, and did not even call back to see how I was doing. Very unprofessional place, I am taking my family and going to another practice.

I have been searching for a doctor for a couple of years. My previous care facility was just God awful and not caring and you were always rushed. I must say that I have always had a positive experience while being a patient @ HFMC. Dr. Emdadi is excellent and her nurse is always so caring and a very careful listener. The mere fact that the doctor will listen and not rush you is a ??10? in my book. I appreciate that she appreciates I know my body and what is wrong, and she works with me. When you call in the staff is professional and courteous. I have called in on a Saturday and the front desk escalated my concerns to another doctor who stepped in and saved me an ER visit by assessing my situation, reviewing my medical records and prescribing the needed medication! The office has always been clean and I like the option of having the lab and physical therapy on site, this saves a lot of time and traveling. Yes, Tattoos can be offensive to some, yet it is a lifestyle and I don't believe the young ladies mean to offend anyone. Overall, I only have positive things to say and have only received the most courteous and professional treatment. Kudos to you all!

I have been with HFM for 4+ years and had had a normal experience. However I am so disappointed with their customer service. Yesterday I went at 2.55 for my 2.45 appointment; it was raining and traffic was bad. Around 3.10pm, my name was called; the front desk person said that my appointment was at 2.25 and they will have to reschedule me. I assured them that over the phone my appt was given at 2.45 and I was there within 10 mts of that time; that I had taken off work to come to the doctor; that I was leaving the next week to go to India and would not return for 3 weeks; that I had never been late for an appt before; that I had had to wait for doctors to see me for 30-40 minutes; and while I understand doctors are busy, this was courtesy especially since I was willing to wait. But NO: they would not even consider; they checked with the doctor and said they would have to reschedule me. Now I have 2 brothers in law who are doctors; a sister in law who is a doctor; very good doctor friends; I called and asked all of them if I was being unreasonable; every one of them told me this was unacceptable behavior from this practice. Their quesiton was: is this the doctor you want to call in an emergency! I am going to change my doctor to someone who is compassionate!!!

I have been a patient of Herndon Family Medicine for the last 17 years and have received excellent care...until the last 12 months. While I like my doctor at HFM, I have found that the criteria for hiring competent front-desk personnel must currently be an afterthought. In two words, they suck! I'm serious when I say that they have screwed up my prescription refills for 12 months straight! Why have I stayed? I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. For example, last Friday morning I called the office for a refill of a prescription that I had run out of. I was told by the gal on the phone that she would leave a message for my doctor's nurse and that the nurse would call me back. You think I ever heard back from the nurse? That would be a big, fat NO! No call! No anything! And that's the norm nowadays. When I do hear back from the front desk, they've usually submitted a prescription to my local pharmacy that is nothing similar to what I requested. I'm scratching my head as to how they remain in business. My recommendation? Stay away! Stay very far away!

I've really tried to find doctors offices in Herndon that were, to put this as kindly as possible, not disgusting on the inside. I walked into the crowded waiting room of Herndon Family Medicine, took my seat (avoiding the seat next to me that had what looked like dried spit up on it) listened to the tattooed lady at the font desk tell a woman that she had an existing balance of $100 and then listened as an argument promptly ensued over the $100 existing balance. How did I hear all of this? No, I was not sitting close to the front desk and no, I really don't care to hear about someones billing issues. There was no T.V. in the waiting room, there was no music on and there were two magazines sitting out...both of which looked too gross to touch, so it was almost impossible block out any persons conversation. Once I got into an individual room (to their credit, the wait was not horrible), the doctor came in, told me I had a virus and told me there was nothing she could do, prescribing me nothing, informing me of nothing. I at least expected her to tell me to take Mucinex to prevent a sinus infection. Two days later, my virus has now progressed into a sinus and ear infection. I will now find my doctors in Fairfax. I would advise finding yours elsewhere also. Additionaly, to the gentlemans review below, the negative reviews aren't nasty, nor are they personal attacks on any one person, unlike your comments. The reviews, good or bad, are actual experiences. If someone had a bad experience, it's bad. If someone had a good experience, it's good. Unfortunately for Herndon Family Medicine, the truth sometimes hurts. Instead of getting upset about it, use the reviews as a way to better your business. If you do better your business, I'm certain that the reviews would become better also.

I had a perfectly fine visit at Herndon Family Medicine. They addressed all of my concerns (which were probably too many for 1 visit). They gave me all of the referrals I needed to get myself functioning properly. Too bad about those 2 cats below who felt obligated to leave big nasty reviews because they don't know how to conduct themselves as people. What are you trying to do, make friends? Get in, address your issues quickly and clearly, move on. Flu guy - is your wife pregnant? No? Then chill out! Geez. It's just the flu, not flesh eating bacteria.
Thanks again HFM!

My experience at Herndon Family Medicine has been outstanding. They are courteous, quick, and organized and my medical care has been top notch. The form that you sign (see other comment on this site) is a standard medical practice form that simply makes the financial responsibility of the patient clear before medical service is rendered. I find the staff kind and helpful both in person and over the phone. I have had many years of experience with the medical industry and Herndon Family Medicine ranks as one of the best.

The CDC guidelines say, "Treatment should not wait for laboratory confirmation of influenza because laboratory testing can delay treatment and because a negative rapid test for influenza does not rule out influenza. The sensitivity of rapid tests in detecting 2009 H1N1 has ranged from 10% to 70%." That means that at best the test will miss 30% of H1N1 cases and may miss as many as 90%. Also, "To reduce delays in starting treatment, healthcare providers should: . . .Consider empiric treatment of patients who have illnesses compatible with influenza and are at higher risk for influenza complications based on telephone contact if hospitalization is not indicated and if this will substantially reduce delay before treatment is initiated and additional medical evaluation can be arranged if needed". (http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/recommendations.htm)

When my wife called HFM (her regular doctor's office) with 101+ fever that had developed quickly along with a bad cough and major fatigue, they had no appt.s left that day, so she asked for tamiflu prescription over the phone, but they insisted that she wait until the next day to come in for testing, at which point she would have been outside the 48 hour limit for most effective use of antivirals! By way of explanation, they said they were following the CDC guidelines, which clearly they were ignorant of, because the guidelines emphasize the importance of early treatment and very low reliability of the Rapid Test for flu that they use. My wife is a school teacher and 1/3 of her school was out sick, she had 101+ fever, chills, aches, and a bad cough that was moving into her chest, and they were going to make their determination based on a test that the CDC reports to be only 10-70% accurate? No wonder our health care system is so expensive and the care so mediocre- HFM was going to require a ~$200 office visit and test, and expose their entire waiting room to yet more H1N1 to come up with a diagnosis less reliable that the one they could have made over the phone. This does not speak well for their professionalism in handling their piece of a national health crisis; I only hope that their story is a rare one.

I have been looking for a good doctor's office for my kids since we moved here 9 years ago. I found this practice last year and have been so happy with it! I have even recommended them to several friends who have also been looking for a good practice. They are amazingly hard to find here! The doctors I have worked with are excellent and I have not had a problem getting an appointment with one, as a previous reviewer stated. In the few instances where I got an appointment with a nurse practitioner instead, I have found them to be top notch. As far as front staff goes, believe me, I've seen WAY worse! For the most part the front staff has been just fine and very friendly.

I hate them! I wait too long and the front staff is terrible. They are terribly over booked. I have never once seen an actual doctor. They have you sign so form that says that if the insurance company does not pay in a timely manner you will be responsible and also be changed late fee, and an 18% interest. I will be finding a new general doctor. Front staff is not helpful and sometime down right rude on the phone.
