NEVER BUY A CAR HERE!!!

I purchased a Toyota Prius from Motorvation under the emphasis of it being a reliable car for me. I personally contacted the owner, Jamie, and told him my situation. I have been serving as a missionary for the past 3 years in South Africa and have recently returned back to the States and needed a reliable car with good gas mileage. I told him how much I was willing to spend and asked if he would work with me. He brought the car down to my price and explained that it had some superficial damages (paint missing and small crack) but that it was a reliable car and would be a great fit for me.

I was concerned about a few things. The first was that the car had a distinct smoke smell, which he promised to alleviate before I picked it up. The second was that the front tires were in bad shape. He got me set up with good used tires for a cheap price to fix this. When I signed the contract and got into my new car, the smell lingered but was much better. However, it must have been merely sprayed and air fresheners used as it came back quickly and strong. I have since had to pay to have it detailed on the inside to get rid of the smell, as well as replace the cabin air filter and purchase numerous air fresheners. However, all of these things are minor and come with buying a used car from a small dealer and I understood that.

What I cannot agree with is the fact that he has blatantly ignored my calls and doesn??t respond to any messages I leave. He knew that he has sold me a car with problems; otherwise he would have returned my calls as he did when we were negotiating the purchase.

The first day I drove it, the check engine light came on. Unfortunately, it was after hours. The next day I took it to my mechanic in NC (where the car is going to be registered) and he told me it's the catalytic converter. I tried numerous times to get in contact with Jamie since and only heard back from him 3 weeks later. When I explained the situation, he promised he wasn??t going to leave me hanging dry. 6 days later after more then a dozen unreturned calls, I finally spoke to him. He then told me an alternate route to fixing the converter, which instead of costing $2100 will cost around $500. However every single mechanic I have talked to told me that they would never recommend this to anyone. He just wanted to get out of having to split the bill or help in any way.

I never would have bought a car that needed so much money to be put into it as I am still working as a missionary and don't have those funds readily available. Jamie knew this and took advantage of the situation. I have also been in contact with the owner of the company who is sticking by Jamie and refusing to help, stating this wasn??t a pre-existing issue. Funny how they can say that when it started less than 10 miles of me driving it. So much for Jamie??s promise to not leave me hanging dry. I??m stuck with a bill of $2000 after I just spent $9000.

Worst business practices I have ever had to deal with. There is no concern for customer service or satisfaction once there is a check in their hand.
