My husband had a really bad experience at Razors a few years ago when they first opened. I have heard that they have gone under new management, and decided to give them another shot. I bought my husband and his boss a gift card for Christmas. I am just now getting the feed back and let me tell you, I am embarrassed!! The traditional fruit cake would have been a better gift!

Razors is now under NEW Management. They have had some problems in the past with certain employees, but have now completely upgraded, not only with stylists, therapists and management, but with their customer service, cleanliness, professionalism and friendliness. If you went to Razors in the past, and were disappointed, you should definitely consider trying them again. And if you've never been before, try it out before listening to the past hype and rumors!!!! :)

Pros: Great Atmospher, Awesome Location, Friendly and Professional

Cons: Parking.

.

Great decor for a barbershop, howvever there are staff members that are sketchy at best. From time to time you'll possibly be treated to more than a haircut!

Depends on your level of income....

Do yourself a favor and spend your time and money with professionals that care about individual appointments.

Being a customer here will ultimatley end with extreme dissapointment..

Got a manicure from Virginia...wanted to leave as soon as I could.

My appointment was at 5:00, but had to wait until 5:20 since my manicurist was chatting on the phone.

She kept interrupting my service so she could talk to the stylist next to her.

Some of my co-workers have gone here, and they all say the service is lousy.

I got a haircut here recently, and could have gotten closer attention to detail at a $10 Hair Cuttery. I see what another reviewer was talking about, it is a bunch of kids running the place. The staff is unprofessional, and more interested in conversing with each other than doing their job.

Pros: Free drinks

Reception area was like a frat house; soda and beer bottles were strewn about, and the manager looked like a meth user.

Best haircuts "evah"! A great service for downtown businessmen who like taking a break during the day to get a haircut or shave in a friendly and relaxed setting!

I started going to Razors around the time it opened. I haven't gone anywhere else since (maybe once while I was in London). Virginia cuts my hair and I find her to be a true professional. She is appropriately friendly, caters to the client and provides a fantastic haircut.

I have begun taking my teenage son to Razors. While it can be very challenging to get a teenager to agree about anything, he agrees that his hair looks good after Virginia cuts it.

The salon is clean. The music isn't too loud. All of the staff go the extra mile to provide an "experience." Frankly, they could charge more for what they provide, but they don't. I find the cut to be the equivalent to or better than those that I have experienced in NYC, Boston, LA, Chicago and London.

I find the location to be very convenient for anyone that works downtown or finds themselves downtown for a meeting. They truly put clients first. I have seen firsthand how they have provided a small service or two gratis as a way of showing potential clients the Razors experience.

Without reservation, I recommend Razors and Virginia. Virginia, particularly, is worth calling ahead and making an appointment with. If Virginia is unavailable, I have watched Marty, Heather and Donna give haircuts and all of their clients were pleased. While Virginia is the one I always go back to, Donna is very friendly and I enjoy talking with her.

One thing that really strikes me is the professionalism. For instance, I have seen Virginia ask Marty's opinion on a certain technique and Marty ask Virginia for her advice on the right style for a client.

Razors is a nice way to get a haircut. Haircuts are a necessity for most. I tend to walk in looking and feeling a little scruffy. While at Razors, I am made to feel like a gentleman and when I walk back out the door, I feel like a million bucks with a smile on my face.

Give Razors a try. Ask for Virginia. Most people will be very happy.

Pros: Haircut is great, the extras - hot towels, drinks, etc, people are warm, they remember your name, they take your coat and ask if you are comfortable

Cons: Well, I used to wish that they were open on Mondays, but now they are. No cons!

I have been a Razors client for well over a year now and have found it to be the best place to get a haircut and manicure in the seven years since I moved to Richmond. The service is very friendly and professional and they are very attentive to your personal preferences and needs. I like the decor and the amenities and have never had to wait more than a minute or two for my appointment. The haircuts that I have received there have always been what I wanted and looked the way I wanted them to. I always walk out of there with a little spring in my step because they have made me feel and look good. I have recommended Razors to a number of people who are all now very satisfied customers.

All I want from a hair salon is a good cut on a consistent basis. Prior to Razors sometimes I would get a good cut and sometimes not - it was like potluck and frustrating at times. But at Razor I always get a good cut - I'm never disappointed. The location is also great , the atmosphere is relaxing and the price is reasonable. They are also open on Mondays, which is helpful - always seems I need a cut on a Monday.

So if you work, live or visit the downtown area you may want to try Razors for you next cut. I would recommend it.

Having lived in big cities all of my adult life, including the last ten years in Washington, DC, I was struggling to find a good haircut in Richmond with the kind of service I appreciate. I found it at Razors. Yes, the staff is all women and they are friendly (duh, what is wrong with that for a grooming salon targeting men)? I don't mind the flirting and in fact for a middle-aged man it was kind of nice. Getting your hair cut or other grooming services should be a relaxing experience with good results. You'll get both at Razors, so lighten up and enjoy.

A salon which has been open less than 2 years and cannot maintain any employees except the one which tampers the salon image is the first tell-tale sign of "problem"

Upscale is defined as something of elegance, and high quality. Clipper haircuts, cheap beer and hair products that can be purchased at a grocery store are the key components in unmasking the true atmosphere that is Razors... chintzy.

The leather chairs and flat screen television are a great addition to any waiting area, however getting stuck spending more time in a waiting chair instead of a barber chair is an issue that arises when staff is never on time for appointments- and it's not because they're busy cutting hair, either.

The straight razor shaves are a charming service there, but they do not even sell the nice badger brushes or straight razors in which they use- which is odd.

Multiple 4-star reviews were written within days of Razors finding out about the bad ones and attempting to save face, and who can blame them for not wanting to further tarnish their "upscale" image with the truth?

Some stylists have found a niche market at a salon catering to men. Certain men. It is curious if their level of professionalism or skill would suffice in other workplaces.

But niche markets work to a degree, and so some men do enjoy their time at Razors.

It is always a shame when the overall negative image heavily outweighs any of the positives that could bring Razors into becoming the salon it wants to portray itself as being.

Cons: timing, attitude, price vs product/service

Honestly, Razors just wasn't for me or my husband. We walked in one day and were simply mortified by the lack of professionalism in this salon. When we walked in, we had to wait fifteen minutes for the receptionist to finally get ahold of one of the stylist who were all across the street at the bar. One of the older ladies there, who was the manager on duty had her bra halfway hanging out of her dress, and spoke as if she was completely strung out. Empty beer bottles were all over the bar, and from all the gnats flying around, I'm guessing they had been there for a while. We decided to leave and go to another salon around the corner.
As a woman, I would never want my husband going into a place that is so tasteless, and unclassy. I do not recommend this place at all. There are plenty of other salons and spas that are less than 10 minutes away that are much better, and where you dont have to worry about some trashy lady hanging all over your husband.

I found Virginia at Razors. I had problems before with my stylist at another salons.. I made it my goal to find out where Virginia was now cutting hair. I got all super sleuth and wasn't going to give up! Thanks to Google I found her and Razors! And man it was just in time! My badly tattered locks were in desperate need of some TLC. She cuts with shear precision, has an expert eye for my face shape, I highly recommend her to everyone who inquires about who I see to tame my locks. Go see Virginia and you won't be disappointed! Oh, and if Virginia not vaialable try Donna; she gets a solid 10+++ on the styling scale -- so either way you win.

It is 2:30 on a Sunday and my first experience at Razors. It was very positive. First of all the ladies that are here today are here because they want to learn how to better cut hair and more effectively serve particular gentlemen.

The gentlemen that was instructing the ladies today has over 65 years of experience cutting hair and with his partners and seminars back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, has taught over 20,000 barbers the proper way to give professional razor cuts. Marty is a gentleman and a perfectionist.

While Marty is my friend and barber of over 10 years, he is in fact a gentleman's barber.

What makes Razor's unique is the atmosphere, the location across from the Richbrau and the ladies.

We all need haircuts, however it is nice to have a massage, razor cut and special treament on occasion.

It is easy for somebody to smear someone else. However, did you ever ask yourself what would motivate someone to bad mouth another person? Could it be malice or financial?

Try Razor's. You will like it and if by chance it is not your cup of tea, just do not go back.

I am happier for my experiece.

Bernie

Pros: Location, atmosphere, ambiance, exceptional services like facial massage, manicure etc.

Cons: Finer experiences are more financially challenging.

Not sure what the other people were drinking when they wrote these reviews. Not only do you get quality haircuts, you get a great hot towel treatment and straight razor neck shave. They're always accomidating with any additional requests even when you're picky like me. I was referred here by my boss who was a long time customer and I've sent several other people to Razors. Don't like to be called honey or sweetie? What are you like 60 and raised in a barn? The extra attention they provide makes this a exceptional salon experience. I hate to see a quality local establishment get bashed by people that obviously lack class.

As I wrote on Google's reviews, this place has a tasteless atmosphere to it. The female staff takes too many liberties with its all-male clients. Every time I have gone in Razors, I get pinched, winked at, and called honey and sweety.
I am sure some of the clients enjoy this, but if I wanted this kind of experience, I would go to Club Velvet, the strip club down the street from Razors.

At first glance you think this is going to be an above average barber shop. But moments into my visit i realized that this was nothing more than a cheap imitation of a "upscale" shop. The website brags that the stylist have been trained in NY and Miami, however their knowledge and skills are that of any fresh out of beauty school student. I had heard from a friend that this place gave good hair cuts and overall excellent service, however i received a hair cut from a Lady, in her 40's, that looked to be either strung out on coke or had just had a rough life. She reeked of stale cigarettes and couldn't hold an intelligent conversation to save her life. The only bright side, was drinking my "complimentary" beer. I do not recommend this "high quality" salon. Unless you want to pay far to much for an average haircut from an averagely skilled woman that needs rehab.
