I originally went to Madison several years back to follow a stylist that I liked from a Mall salon. After she left, I saw someone else at Madison and was very underwhelmed with the cut I got. It didn't really look like a reference picture I'd brought at all, and the stylist seemed unable to execute or understand what I wanted.

Eventually, given that I have quite short hair, I ran out of time to find someone else and made the poor choice to go to a nearby budget salon. At that point, I was really just looking for a fix to the disastrous cut until I could find a new regular stylist. I went back to Madison and saw Cody, and he was able to not only fix the cut, but manage the grow out issues with some parts of the cut that weren't fixable at that time wonderfully. I immediately scheduled a follow up appointment, sort of amazed by the change from the awful cut to the fix, as my hair was quite short and I'd been a it hopeless that anything could be done. I continued going back to Cody for over a year and was always really happy with the cuts. I felt like he listened really well to what I wanted and even understood my style to the extent that he would sometimes offer new things to try that I may not have ever thought I'd do myself but that turned out wonderfully. Cody was entirely indispensable to me as a stylist, and I'm not really sure I realized what I was missing in cuts until working with someone who really wanted to work with me.

On my most recent visit, I had been scheduled for Cody's first appointment of the day, and had arrived about a half hour early. I'd been told that he wasn't yet there, and I reassured the woman at the counter that it was fine, and I knew I was early. At about ten minutes after my appointment time, I checked in with the desk again to see if there was a mixup with my appointment time, as I often scheduled 2pm appointments instead of 1pm. The woman behind the desk, presumably the manager, began to get very agitated and made a sharp comment about Cody's apparent tardiness, then apologized for the wait and went outside to "handle it". I assumed that there had been a traffic or personal issue holding him up and shrugged it off, going back to reading my book and waiting for an update. Eventually, without much further explanation, the manager and another stylist, Tara, began encouraging me to get a cut with the stylist instead to "avoid further wait". I hadn't really complained about the wait, only calmly asked for an update, so I was a bit confused and felt that the behavior seemed a bit pushy. I explained to Tara that I'd had issues with stylists before, and wasn't necessarily comfortable having someone else cut my hair with it being so short (I have a heavily texture close cropped pixie cut), and that I'd rather wait for Cody. Tara seemed very understanding of this, but the manager again became pushy, saying that she had no idea when Cody would be in and that I shouldn't have to wait (which again, I hadn't complained about). I eventually caved and went with Tara after asking for clarification on whether Cody would be in later and offering that I could come back, and getting another agitated remark from the manager that she had no idea when he would be in.

The cut from Tara wasn't bad, but the one issue I did have with it wasn't a fixable one. She had asked which clipper guard Cody used on the back of my cut, and I had explained I didn't know, to which she responded that a #2 would help with grow out. That seemed like an okay idea so I said that I thought it was a #3 but that I'd be open to the #2, and instead of cutting with the #3 first and checking, she went straight with the #2, which was a bit too short for what I really wanted. She was friendly and seemed to make effort to make me comfortable, but she also asked a couple questions I felt were too personal (Are you seeing anyone? Got a boyfriend?). Tara also threw in a brow wax at no charge, which was nice, but again, I hadn't really complained.

The manager then informed me as I was checking out that "Cody no longer works here" quite smugly. I was thrown, as I came to the salon for Cody, not for the salon, and I told her that I didn't really want to pay extra to come back to Tara (a "level 2" stylist, which I had found out after the cut), which she countered with "we have stylists at the lower price point". I politely declined and she snappily responded that it was "my choice" and that it wan't her fault that "Cody could get there in time/was still in bed" and a number of other comments on him. Regardless of the specifics of what happened, the manager's handling of the situation and comments to me were deeply unprofessional and rude. It was completely unnecessary to badmouth a stylist to a customer and to become very combative when I explained that I wouldn't be returning.

Really great! I have been going to the salon four years now. I will agree with some of the reviews, sometimes the customer service needs a refresh, however the results are always amazing. I now know the women and men of theMadison and greatly appreciate the advanced education I know they recieve. They are always up to date with the latest trends which is important to me bc I love change, healthy change! (My stylist says the "integrity" of my hair is most important!) I found this salon when they did a cut-a-thon for a young boy in our community and feel in love then! The prices have never been much of an issue either, considering I live in Northern Va.; I have compared the prices for a full high-light- the Madison: approx. $150 vs. NoVa & DC: upwards near $200-250.00, sometimes NOT including cut. The way I figure, in my line of business, I cannot afford to not look professional and it all begins with my hair, face, and hand shake. Thank you Madison, for always maintaining superior hair results!

I have been a loyal customer of theirs for over 2 years, always going every 6 to 8 weeks for haircuts. I've referred friends and family and my cousin has also sent customers over from her salon when she is overbooked. They had always given me a decent enough haircut but they are seriously lacking in professionalism and communication.

I asked for purple highlights and was told I would need to get a brownish purple glaze too or my roots and top of my head could all turn purple. After repeatedly asking for an explanation it still didn't make sense but since they are the experts I followed their advice. I was told the glaze was a demi-permanent and would last 4 to 6 weeks instead it lasted 3 days and ruined a bunch of my white towels. I was also told the highlights would gradually lighten over time to a very vibrant and beautiful purple. Instead, I noticed after 3 days they had totally faded to a lavendar type color with red undertones. Four days later any trace of purple was gone and I was left with a really ugly reddish color. Two weeks to the day that the service was done all the color was gone and my hair was left a coppery, brassy orange. It looked hideous. I called the salon and they told me to come in for a "re-do." Tammy, the manager could not believe I had gotten my hair done there and stopped short of calling it horrible. She told me they would do the glaze that day but would not re-do the $135 highlights, with no explanation as to why. I told her I did not want to do the same thing over again and be back again in 3 days when it faded all over again. She refused to go with another color like blonde because she said she couldn't do the service for FREE. Obviously it wouldn't be done for free considering I had already shelled out $200 for an unnecessary glaze and highlights that were placed wrong, and faded quickly. I demanded a refund which I got in full but not before being talked down to very rudely and in a condescending manner. I will NEVER refer anyone there again. I would be horrified if this happened to anyone that I sent to them.

The young women who work at the Madiso
gossip, complain about personal issues I even heard them talk about customers and that's pretty rude. I find this salon to be stuck up and when I went I got the impression I was in the way. Plus the tatoos are disbursing. The women of this salon really need to grow up.

I have been getting my hair cut and colored at The Madison Salon for many years. I have never had a bad experience there. I have never been pressured into buying products. No matter what style or color I ask for when I get finished it always looks GREAT!!! Amber was the first stylist I had there, when I found out she was moving and leaving the salon I was so upset. But then I started seeing Amie and she is super!!!! I would never go anywhere else.......Love The Madison

I love the Madison. I have been going there since they opened. Toni is the best stylist. She also if a great mentor to the rest of the staff. You are paying a lot because you are paying for certification. The Madison color stylists are board certified, that means that they did not just graduate cosmetology school, they obtained additional training in the art of hair color. They also attend industry conventions to stay current. I never have to deal with dry brittle over processed hair anymore since I have been going there. I have even witnessed them work a miracle and correct hair turned orange by another local salon in Central Park for a walk in customer. My hair has never been healthier. I love how they listen to what you want done and they will even tell you if something is not a god choice, but in the end will leave the decision up to you. The products have never been pushed on me. I always ask what does this do and that. Everything I have bought has proven to help my hair maintain the color and look as if I walked out of the salon after doing my own hair. They are not only about color, they also perform excellent hair cuts, for men, women, and children. So are they more expensive than most hair places in Fredericksburg yes, but I would rather pay more for quality and experience.

I gotta say I love the whole experience of going to get my haircut from picking out the exact haircut I want to the moment when shes finally finished cutting the last hair. Since I'm always getting drastic things done to my hair I like to have that assurance when I'm walking into the salon that I'm gonna walk out with a beautiful haircut. I've been to many different salons, from the cheap ones like to the more high end ones and nobody has ever cut my hair better than Amie at the Madison Salon. I've had long hair, medium hair, to short hair cut with her and although it is a bit pricey at 45$ plus 5$ dollar tip, I find it worth every penny when I look in the mirror and see how fantastic my new cut is. I've been going here about 2 years and I absolutely love it.

Toni is awesome!! She always does an amazing job on my cut. I haven't had color services there, but I know when I'm in Toni's chair all the other girls are always asking her how to do their client's color - I don't think I'd go to anyone but her! I think her cuts are worth $55. However, the salon could really use a little atmosphere. It's super boring in there, and the light colored walls are speckled with hair color. They should either be cleaned up or repainted.

Every time I have went to the Madison Salon I have had a good experience. My color and cut has always been amazing. I was seeing Lorena who was a board certified color specialist, but she left so am seeing someone new next weekend and hope everything goes well. Before I started going there I went to Bubbles for the first time and the person destroyed my hair! The Madison Salon has saved it and I am happy with how it always looks after I leave.

Expect to pay way too much for very little experience! I swear, some of the girls that work here just stepped out of beauty school and have no idea what they are doing! I had my hair colored here and I paid about $200.00. My hair looked as though nothing was done to it! The girl, Rachel, kept talking about this hair gloss color treatment and how good it was. I still had dark roots and no change in color. Don't go here!!

I have driven by the Madison Salon several times and listened to my friends rave about it so I finally decided to join the bandwagon!
I had an appointment yesterday, brought a picture in and when I left you could not tell a difference between the photo and myself! She listened to my every desire. She gave me amazing advice to continue the health of my hair. The other stylist were amazing as well, I watched and listened... I am known for that! They all were attentive to my every need. I will continue to go to the Madison! It is refreshing to have a salon like that in the Fredericksburg area! Thank you ladies! By the way, the Bumble and Bumble products I purchased are amazing and they do make a difference! Thank you ladies!

This salon is considered an upscale salon. I received services from this salon several times. On my last visit, I felt that the stylist did not cut my hair to my specifications. She put layers in my hair that I did not want and now I am patiently waiting for them to grow out. I just wanted a salon to listen to what I wanted, especially since I paid top dollar.

Also, this salon pushes a lot of products on their customers. For a haircut and color, I paid $120 and with products it totaled $160.00 for each visit. I could not afford to go back!!
