The AWLA is great. They have a wide variety of animal for you to choose from and allow you to spend one on one time with your potential new best friend. My husband and I adopted our first rescue from there and she is wonderful. Her name is Cleo and she is a 1 and 1/2 year old Yorkie. They let us take her for a walk, play with her in the play area and visit her before her spay surgery. It is wonderful that there are people out there like the people at AWLA that love and care for animals that others have abandoned.

This business is also called the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. I adopted my first cat from them in 2003 and then a second cat from them in 2007. They have adoption counselors who visit your home and fill out paperwork with you there to make sure that you are a good fit for the animal. Most of the staff members are friendly and care very much about animals. The building is newer and looks as nice as a shelter can (much better than most other shelters). Prices to adopt are reasonable, and because so many animals are unwanted by the public, this shelter has a large selection of cats, dogs, birds, and other animals. I often visit the shelter just to spend time with the animals. I will be sure to get my next pet there, and I encourage other people to adopt from them also.
