I love the Cedar Door and just realized I had not already written a review. I have never sat inside, but who would? The large outdoor patio is awesome. It is quiet enough to have a conversation, though still busy, especially on weekends.

Whenever we head to Austin for "fine dining" and our disappointed we redeem the trip by going to the Cedar Door. The staff is always fun and attentive and the food is never a disappontment. The patio is great too.

went here recently for happy hour because we were drawn to their beautiful patio. left disappointed because they weren't offering any happy hour specials, the waiter was rude (gave us attitude about wiping down the table) and not attentive ( they were slow that night but he was always hard to find). the queso

I love this place. Every time I come to Austin I go to the Cedar Door - their Mexican Martinis are amazing. They're are a little spendy, but totally worth it. So tasty on a hot Texas day! Their food is good too, nothing too fancy but excellent pub grub/bar type food (nachos, burgers, etc.) The drinks and nice outside seating make it all totally worthwhile. Service has always been quick and friendly even when happy-hour busy.

I just wish they were open at lunchtime during the week!

Pros: mexican martinis, deck, downtown

Cons: not open for lunch, hours strange?

Went to Cedar Door with a friend. We both had a long history going to there. We asked for Nachos which took over an hour to get. When we refused them, the waitress got an attitude and demanded a tip. This is worst service I have ever gotten in my life. The excuse why the food too long? Their kitchen is too small and they didn't have enough staff. We were still expected to pay for our Margaritas, which were too expensive. When I called to talk to the manager, they hung up on me! I used to love going to this place. Unfortunately, they don't seem to care about their customers.

Just picture yourself on the porch with your favorite libation, surrounded by friends on a hot summer evening. The porch has a misting system that is cooling, the service is great, and local music is being played in the background. Now that's my idea of a great happy hour!

I went to Cedar Door with a large group of friends for a birthday. I'd been to Cedar Door a few years ago and was impressed by the wonderful service. Our server Nichole? was an absolute joy and was very helpful (definitely try the Mexican martinis). The bar was a little busy and crowded, but the atmosphere is great- very down to earth and fun, not at all pretentious like some places. The food was ok, but there are a lot more pro's than con's. Highly recommended for it's charm and great crowd.!

Went to the Cedar Door with a group of co-workers and sat on the porch. Fun crowd, good service and excellent drinks. A peer raved about the "mexican martini." Check it out.

The Mexican Martini is the same great recipe as the other location. I've been out of Austin for several years and was so happy to find this place still alive and looking and feeling the same!! Austin has changed so much but the Door has remained the same great neighborhood bar it has been for decades.

Strong drinks at cheap prices. Service is great but most of the time the place is too busy for excellent service. Try the Mexican Martini, the best in Austin. The deck is awesome too.

First time in at the new location. All good if not better than prevous location. Same great drinks and laid back atmosphere. A must see if you're tired of the same old clubs.

We had a great time at the Cedar Door before and after dinner at Roy's. The Mexican's are always great and the atmosphere is more sophisticated than the Warehouse distrcit. Maybe someone should tell the guys that the women to guy ratio is 5 to 1. That's probably why the hang out at the Door!

The Cedar Door remains a cool place to hang regardless of time. So many new trendy places that come and go but this Austin favorite has staying power. It's a simple, laid back joint that has more charm than any new bar could possibly duplicate.

First time out to the new location. The deck is HUGE and the drinks are still affordable. The beer garden is great if want to get away from the crowd in front.

Had a great time, again, at the Door. Noticed they have new drink specials during the week and they lowered the price of the Mexican. Plenty of parking considering the place was packed. Bathrooms are bigger and cleaner than previous location.

Stopped in and noticed new drink specials from Sunday to Thursday. $2 Drafts on Tuesday and $3.00 wells on Thursday. This is great for those of us laid off from local law firms! They have a new house mexican for $7.50. Not bad but we still like the original.

These folks have done a wonderful job improving the Door while keeping its charm and character. Good luck and thanks for keeping this landmark open!

Best original venue in all of Austin. I tried there new house mexican for $7.50, great value. If you're a tequila snob the original is the best. The deck is the largest in Austin. Great views of downtown.

$9.25 for a Well Mexican Martini? C'mon. How much is a topshelf $15?

I have been to the Cedar Door on several occassions and the place oozes character! The bartenders and wait-staff are super friendly . I love the "Mexican" Martini. It is well worth the price when you consider the very large shaker glass that they serve it in. Beware-they are smooth and can sneak up on you if you are not careful! The only delima I have when I go to the Cedar Door is trying to decide where I want to sit. They have a cool deck with oak trees looking out at the Austin highrises or the inside bar with its old heavy wooden tables and chairs- which is cozy and intimate. If you are interested in a great place to relax and have a good drink I highly recommend the Cedar Door! It is truly an old Austin establishment unique to the city.

Pros: Great Atmosphere, Best Mexican Martini, Cool Clientel

.

A great place to people watch at happy hour or late night. The drink prices are fair and the pours are heavy! The Mexican is served in a 16 oz shaker glass with REAL Tequila (Suaza to be specific) and a splash of lime juice. A nice change to the warehouse district and those other trending bars on 5th street.

I've been several times during the week and on the weekends. The service has always been exceptional and the Mexican's are the best in Austin. No comparison to the cheap Tequila Trudy's and other bars are mixing in their Mexican's. On our last visit we met with the owners and they gave us a tour of their new beer garden. Great people, great location!!

I went there on a Wednesday night and paid $9.25 for a Mexican Martini. A little pricey considering they are half the size of Trudy's Mexican Martini's and half as good. The bar itself was neat but there are plenty of cool bars in Austin that don't rip you off! I will stick to Trudy's!
