After all the talk I've heard about this place, my husband and I decided to check it out. Upon spotting the place, we noticed that there was a long line outside. We waited for about an hour before we finally got inside and ordered out food. Yea, that sounds crazy to wait that long for breakfast on a Saturday morning at. But I have to admit, it was worth our wait. The Wings and Waffles were amazing. The wings were breaded with very seasoned flour and were fried to perfection. The wafffle was cooked just right as well, crispy on the outside but fluffy in the inside. My husband had the Catfish and Grits and he absolutely loved it. He's very picky about his food, being a former Sous Chef, and I was suprised to hear him say it was some of the best catfish he's had in Houston. In addition to the flavorful food, both our plates had generous portions. We both took our leftovers home.
The entire time we were there, there was a long line that never got shorter...that alone speaks volumes about the wonderful food.

If this place won "Best Breakfast" in Houston, our great city must have lowered it's standards. Please Houston tell me what do you see in this place?? Both times I was there it was an AWFUL experiance one time the owner (i asked an employee who he was, (he was disciplining an employee in the middle of the diningroom), she looked at me like I was crazy that i didnt know who Marcus Davis was. Does the Health Dept ever visit this place? So PLEASE Houston, help rebuild our creditability.

It is located at the mouth of the Richmond/Louisiana exit. It is set up like a jazz caf with art on all the walls, large windows to let in the maximum amount of light, and soft jazz and R&B plays in the background to provide a lively vibe to enjoy your meal. The Klub has a very friendly and responsive wait and cashier staff. It boasts really short lines due to their incredible service and a wait staff brings your meals to you to make sure that your food gets to you hot. It has a very organized and clean self-service station with everything stacked up exactly where it needs to be.

If you get there early enough they will even bring a menu to your car so that you can order immediately and get your food promptly. This Klub opens extra early, 7 am, for those early birds and even has a special for people who are early risers.

Offered from 7 am to 9 am, the breakfast special is your choice of bacon, pan sausage, or ham with two eggs, potatoes or grits, and a choice of thickly-cut country Texas toast or a scrumptious buttermilk biscuit. All of that delicious home-cooked meal for a minuscule $6.25 is the best value the Klub has to offer. Compare that to other breakfast restaurants and cafs where you can expect to shell out upwards of $10.

Recommended is the Kountry Sausage & Eggs. It is comprised of delicious, fanned smoked Kountry links & two eggs served with lightly-salted, reasonably peppered potatoes mixed with red and green bell peppers and sauted onions or wholesome buttery grits, and your choice of Texas toast or a biscuit.

Other options are their Three Egg Omelets and the plate sized waffles. Take your pick from a Swiss cheese, spinach, and mushroom omelet, the three cheese omelets, the three meat and cheese omelets, or the enormous veggie omelets. None of the eggs are too salty or overly seasoned. The eggs are light and fluffy and perfectly compliment the potatoes or grits, and toast or biscuit that come with it. The waffle that this place cooks up are 8 inches in diameter and are made with strawberry, banana, or walnut mixed into the batter. They are served lightly coated in powdered sugar and don??t need syrup added to them. They melt in your mouth.

Primarily a breakfast joint, the Klub does offer a variety of sandwiches, salads, and daily lunch specials. Signature dishes that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else would have to be the Krawfish Fettuccine and the Tie-Bow Chiken. The Krawfish Fettuccine is a fusion of Cajun and Italian cuisine. It incorporates a creamy, cheesy Cajun sauce with tender crayfish served over fettuccine pasta garnished with jumbo shrimp and concatenated by garlic toast. The Tie-Bow Chikin is another attempt at this fusion. It combines thickly sliced grilled chicken placed deliberately over a bed of farfalle pasta and served with a white cream sauce that is flanked by garlic toast.

The prices are kept reasonable by the fact that they are only open until 2pm daily and Rice University students who have a hedgehopper card save an additional 15% off of their orders. It is definitely a place to go if you need a change of scenery and offers its own literature section if you choose to read other material besides your textbooks. It is also great place to take your parents for families?? weekend or that special someone on a date. I took my mom.

I recently moved into the apartment building not too far from this Breakfast Klub and decided to treat myself to some breakfast today.

The restaurant is your typical, poorly kept, neighborhood spot that has never been renovated since opening day. I guess the TVs inside can count but the outside is just awful. Citrus colors upon citrus.... The inside is just horrible.

Luckily I only had to walk a few blocks because parking is non existent. I estimated 15 spaces in the from, maybe 10 in the rear. Would seem like a fair amount but its not enough for the amount of customers the place caters to.

As I walked in, I walked into a line of about 9 people. I told the guy in front of me good morning and he turned his nose up at me and looked the other way. Apparently customers aren't supposed to talk to each other.

A lady immediately approached me with a menu and started to read it to me ??? okay ??? Then she wanted to know where I was from, if I had ever been there before, if I was expecting or looking for additional people. Just crazy stuff that you normally don't get asked at a restaurant... She finally left to tend to some other customers.

Then after a few steps forward in line she asked me if I was ready to order. Mind you, I didn't see any rush to order because the line was long. So I took another look at the menu after awing at the prices. Eggs & grits were like $7, a 20oz bottle of juice was almost $3, a cinnamon roll was $4. So the lady came back again to ask me if I was ready to order. I just picked the first thing I saw, which were the chicken and waffles and told her thats what I wanted. All that rushing just to tell me to tell the lady at the register "when" I get there.

So I get to the register and finally place my order. Waffle & chicken and a 20oz bottle of apple juice... Total is $14 and some change. Gave the lady my payment and she give me my juice and a number.

I found it odd that I had to get my own silverware. There seemed to be plenty of bus boys. Im sure one of them can set tables as they are cleaning them. I found the station pretty unsanitary and I went through 4 or 5 forks before finding one I could eat with.

You pretty much get everything at this station. Syrup, coffee, butter etc. I found it very inconvenient considering what I was paying to eat there. Next challenge was finding a table. I went to two empty table, the first was a 4- seater. As I was getting settled the lady comes over and asked me to move for a larger party, which I didn't have a problem with. Until she directed me to a 2 seater by the line. After telling the lady I would prefer to sit AWAY from the line where the door is opening and closing, she found me a table in the rear.

From the time it took for me to obtain my own silverware, syrup, butter, and find a table. The food was finally carried over to me. It was nice and hot. Waffle was delicious, wings were nice and juicy.

Other then the numerous staff walking around asking questions, I enjoyed my meal. The wait staff seemed a bit pushy. Right as I finished sucking the last bone the guy was there to ask me if I was finished and wanted to clear my table.

I saw the owner but he only seemed concerned to meet & greet people he knew. Or if they they were some politician. I guess the rest of the staff annoys the "normal" people.

This restaurant is VERY overrated and overpriced. I will never visit this restaurant again unless they do some upgrading and work on the staff.

Thought we should try somewhere new and this place gets rave reviews. Went mid morning when there was a very short line. Greeter gave us overly-detailed instructions on how the self-service system operated as if we had never been in a cafe before. Made us squish up to the people in front to shorten the line even though it was already very short.

At the counter, many of the instructions of the greeter (e.g. where to find silverware and coffee) were repeated.

Room echoed a lot. Very noisy. Dark, dingy even. Couldn't see the kitchen so could not tell if it was clean.

Not overly impressed with our meals. Mine was eggs Benedict with huge quantity of different meats (good) but very, very salty (bad).

Coffees were self service in different pots graduated from weak on left to strong on right but many of the pots were empty.

Several different people came round to ask if everything was OK. Too many! IMO, a restaurant should have confidence in itself and not need to ask.

We hated the noise levels, the fairly dark space, having to wait in line to order, and being bossed around while waiting in the line - especially the order to squeeze up against the people in front. The noise levels were really bad and we got out as soon as we could.

Our favorite breakfast place is Harry's on Bagby/Taft. No waiting in line (served at table), light, airy, quiet, friendly but not officious, delicious food, extensive menu (Greek, Latin, American), and a visible and very clean kitchen. It's always good to try somewhere new but we won't be going back to the Breakfast Klub.

Owner Marcus Davis is a hard worker. He has a giving attitude and a warm spirit. He inspires exemplary customer service attitudes among his employees. Truly, though, he probably hires wonderful staff members to begin with. I was down to give an energy speech in Houston from my Alaska home and Houston son, Todd, wanted me to experience his favorite breakfast place. I've never eaten such a good breakfast surrounded by such wonderful folks. A sweet lady met us at the door with a menu and welcomed us to the Breakfast Klub, then told us about the bottomless coffee cup and the specials. After that introduction, I knew we would be in for something special. Marcus deserves to prosper. God bless you, brother! Dave Harbour

Pros: Fantastic Katfish & Chicken & Grits & Koffee & Service!

Cons: None Whatsoever

you need to be thee early so you don't end up last in line. Almost self-serves, which meants, you order in line, and get number to seat, then someone will bring you food. The best on the menu was the "katfish and grits" and "fired wings and waffle" for breakfest..... I had the katfish and it too greasy for me...other than that, it was so good. I would say, this place is good for lunch. Something interesting, their lunch menu items are actually less greasy than the breakfest ones.... (some one at my table had lunch item)
A must go when you are around, but you can decide if you will come back... worth a try place.

My fiance and I went here for brunch on Sunday. We arrived at 9:45 am and we had to wait about ten minutes, which was not bad at all. However, by the time we left, the line was all the way around the building. I had the chicken and waffles, which were absolutely amazing. My fiance had eggs, sausage, and potatoes, which were also phenomenal. It was by far the best brunch we have ever had, and we weren't even drinking!

Catfish and grits...whoever heard of that, but once you taste the breakfast club' entree... You are hooked! Yes they are pricey but you get a lot of food! Everytime I go, a carryout leaves with me. The breakfast klub is better than dennys's, ihop or whatever is commericalized! I just wish they were open longer.

Waited in line for 20 minutes but the line was moving pretty fast. After we placed our orders and before we even sat down our food were already at our table. That is how fast they are. The food was great. I had the wing and waffle and my husband had the catfish and grits. The grits is just perfect. The catfish and wings are a little bit on the saltier side but I love it. The potatoes are seasoned just right. The waffle and biscuit are ok. The price is not cheap but it is well worth it. They gave you a lot of food.

Even though the place is very busy but we don?t have a problem to find a table. The only problem we have is since they are so busy and so many people waiting and you tend to feel like to rush your meal. I will definitely eat here more often only if I do not have to watch my cholesterol.

Pros: Great Food and Friendly staff

Cons: Long wait and Parking

We went to the Breakfast Klub for the first time this morning. And I must say as far as the food was concerned we were not disappointed. The atmosphere and service was also very good. I'm only giving it 4 stars however just due to the cost. For a family of 4 (one child ate a la carte) it cost us almost $50 - yikes! I would not normally expect to pay so much for a breakfast and because of that we won't be back very often. One thing which I thought was over priced was the Breakfast Klub - $9.05, which on its own may not have been too bad, it certainly was delish, but my hubby added a side of breakfast potatoes and that added an additional $2.50. The coffee was also pricey at almost $3 per cup - I could get Starbucks for less than that. Having said that, our daughter had pancakes with fresh strawberries (an extra $1.55) but the strawberries were so delicious. Where do they get such good strawberries in the middle of December? All in all we enjoyed our visit and it will be a special treat in the future, but unfortunately could not afford to come regularly.

My husband and I are breakfast connoisseurs. Our favorite meal is breakfast and when we travel we always seek out the best breakfasts places. In New York our favorite spot is Normas in Le Parker Meridien and we don't take a trip there without going there once but it's VERY pricey. A breakfast there will run you $30-$50 a person. We feel very fortunate to have a place like Breakfast Klub in Houston as it has almost the same level of food at half the price. The only thing we could hope for is the Breakfast Klub to take reservations and have a sit down restaurant but maybe then it would'nt be the same. Well to anyone looking for great breakfast and if you like French Toast mmmm there's is EXCELLENT. THey start off with a thick and sweet bread and somehow it ends up with a crispyness on the outside. Their waffles are Excellent. The eggs are great. Coffee is great! Everything is really wonderful. The negative is that you have to wait in a line and they don't have servers but for some that may be a positive. The best time to go is during the weekdays because the weekends there will be VERY long lines.

Pros: Hands down the Food is superb!! The coffee is excellent!

Cons: Order at the counter, no servers, long waiting and the line is generally outside which can be torture in the summer

.

Very friendly service and excellent food. Don't miss the cheese grits. Large portions at a fair price. Also, they have a good selection of coffees (free refills) from mild to robust.

The Breakfast Klub is an atmospheric upbeat down home place to enjoy your breakfast occasionally. Not a
fancy place in terms of decor but the food is good. If one doesn't arrive early there is often a waiting line out the door. It's purely a subjective matter if one wants to wait in the Houston humidity for admission.

Pros: An enjoyable place to have breakfast once in a while. A good place to take out of town guests for the ambience of the place.Nice staff.

Cons: Can be quite a wait in the heat to eat.

Wonderful, down home cooking!! Highly recommend! I had grits, biscuits and gravy and they were delicious! There is nothing upscale about this place, just great food and a friendly atmosphere.

I was also reluctant to go to the BK, I've often driven by and seen the line outside and I thought it would be just another greasy breakfast place. Wow, was I wrong. It is SO good. The wings and waffles were amazing -- I don't think I have ever had better fried chicken anywhere! We also had the grits, which were cooked perfectly and loaded with butter. This place is definitely a treat, I crave the food almost every weekend. The line moves faster than I expected and the coffee alone was worth the wait!

For the longest time, I resisted trying the Breakfast Klub. I don't know why, but I kind of had an idea that it was over-hyped and that the food wouldn't live up to the reputation. I think I thought that because many of the people recommending the BK to me were trendy hipsters who tend to judge Houston by how Austin-ish it is or isn't (i.e., Dry Creek and the Heights good, everything else bad). Anyway, my obvious personal issues aside, I was completely blown away by how delicious the food at BK was and how friendly the staff was. Though I am usually not a fan of sweet + savory, the wings and waffles truly were like some magical combination. I'm sure it had something to do with the spicy flavor of the wings and the fact that the syrup was sweet but not too sweet. Also, the fact that the wings had clearly just come from a molten hot deep fryer didn't hurt either. It's so rare that a restaurant with a cult following like this one still takes the time to make first time visitors feel welcome, but each person we met clearly went out of his or her way to help us learn the system, point us in the right direction on the menu, and make us feel generally glad to be there. I'll definitely brave the line and you should too.

Pros: Seriously, the most delicious wings anywhere

Cons: The line, but who cares? You're going to get wings at the end of it

I am here visiting from Michigan and we have already been there twice. The food and service is great. The owner also visits everyone and introduces himself. How great is that !!!! Make sure you visit this resturant when visiting Houston. You will not be disappointed.

I recently tried out this breakfast place based on the reviews and popularity. I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is definitely southern style cooking so dont expect a refined type of cuisine. The fried chicken wings and grits/potatoes were very tasty. The eggs benedict were good and quite large portions. In fact anyone of these dishes could be split for two. The jazz background music is a nice touch and the owner/ staff were friendly and personable. The one complaint was there was minimum air conditioning which didnt bother me but my companion was bothered by the lack there of. I would recommend trying out this southern style eatery and the different types of dishes again.

My parents came to visit me and wanted to have some good breakfast food. I am new to Houston so I wasn't sure where to take them. I found the Breakfast Klub on City search and decided to try it. We were not dissapointed! My mom and I had two huge cups of coffee, choosing from their assortment of five coffees (going from smoothest to boldest). I had a HUGE omelet that was delicious, my mother had a cheesy crossaint sandwich and my Dad was very happy with his steaming heapful of buttery grits. Yes, there was a line to get in, but it moves quickly and the service more than makes up for it. The owner greeted us at the line and personally visited us at the table to chat a bit and to ensure that we were satisfied with our meals. This is probably the only resaturant in Houston that I have been to so far that I would go back to.

Whether it is Breakfast or Brunch...it is definitely worth the trip from the Woodlands. The yummy chicken and grits are "to die for....the best!" This southern gal would drive for the delightful soul food and the family atmosphere....you will simply love it! b

Breakfast Klub is a breakfast spot but i crave it all day long. i wish they were open after 2 and i definitely wish they were open on Sunday - although I commend them on standing by their principles and closing on a day that would obviously be profitable for them. The food in this place can cause a line liteally around the building sometimes but it's actually worth the wait! I've tried their famous "Wings and Waffles." The batter on the plump wings makes them perfect and they compliment the - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside- waffle. It's awesome!!....it might sound like an odd combination but it somehow works. This time I had their other signature dish, the "Catfish and Grits"! Let me preface this by saying I like fried catfish and I like grits but neither are my favorite. in the case of The Breakfast Klub both are superb, and I find myself craving them now!! but their "signature dishes aren't necessarily the thing to get though...i tried a bite of girlfriend's green omelette and house potatoes and they were every bit as good!! i don't think you can really go wrong at this place! In addition to the food, the staff is very nice and always does everything they can to make the wait (if there is one) quick and as pleasant as possible. You gotta check this place out.

The line was 10 deep out the door, but not a long wait. The staff here is top notch, always making sure you have everything you need/want. The food was good too, although a bit richer than we were used to! The grits were good, but not wonderful like other reviewers stated. The catfish was yummy yum as were the wings. Give it a 4 for the staff and 3.5 for the food, 4 for the ambience, great place to people watch! My first review was rejected for some reason, not sure why, lets see if this one makes it. I would recommend this place.

I have visited the Breakfast Klub on several occassions, and the ambiance is very friendly and ecclectic. Yes there is a line, but the food and service is completely worth it. I have never considered breakfast a comfort food, but oh at this spot - comfort food best describes it. Anytime I have out of town guests, I take them to the Breakfast Klub. Typically when I visit a restaurant I order the same thing, but at the BK I order something different everytime because the menu is full interesting dishes. My favorite: Katfish, Eggs, and Potatoes!!!! YUM!!!

My wife and I went on a Saturday morning for breakfast and even though was a long line, the waiting time was not bad. The greeters and wait staff was extremely helpful, patient, and excellent. I ordered green eggs and ham, never heard of it before but it was great food. The amibance was great, we like the soft jazz music and the pictures and soft colors on the wall. I gave it four out five stars only because of the pricing. It was a little pricey for breakfast but it was worth it.

The instant I walked in , I noticed the heavy atmosphere. I did not like it, however pressed for time I needed my coffee. I ordered the breakfast klub with coffee and that's it. Not a whole 3 minutes later my plate arrived with my sandwich swiming in grease. I had a mount of potatoes on my plate which I didn't know I ordered and was charged $2.50 for it. I did not eat the potatoes as they were cold and stale. My sandwich was cold, greasy, dry and a digestive problem at best. I must say the coffee was very good. The waitress stood half way across the room and asked me if all was ok. Of course it wasn't but i did not feel like complaining. I do not recommend this place for new people in town, nor for people wishing to watch their health.
I do however recommend their coffee. that's the only thing I recommend.

My favorite breakfast place to hang out. I'm here 2-3 times per week before I go to Ambiance for my treatments. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, the people are friendly. I can't say enough good things about it.

I've visited The Breakfast Klub several times since my initial visit, but last month we decided to take the kids. My 12 year old girls nearly Passed Out she thought it was the best place next to Laser Tag. The service was wonderful as usualy, and the owner stopped by the table to chat with the kids, and give my daughter tips on how to eat the Fried Pork Chops (finger food he called it). Will definitely go back many many more times.

We ate at the BK for the first time recently. It was mid-morning on a Saturday and the line was around the block. It took about 30 minutes to move through the line, which ends at an ordering counter. We placed our order and my wife headed for a table while I got our drinks at the fountain. By the time I got to the table (1 minute later), our food had arrived. My first thought was that they had inventoried popular dishes and I would find my food suffering from the effects of a heat lamp or cold. Not so, our food could not have been any fresher or hotter.

The food was absolutely perfect. I had the wings and grits, which consists of 2 eggs, 6 chicken wings, grits and a biscuit. The wings were among the best I have ever had and the grits were outstanding. It is rare to find grits that actually taste like corn but these fit the bill.

The service is even better than the food as everyone seemed to enjoy there job instead of the typical restaurant worker that can't wait for their shift to end. The owner was in the dining room during our visit, which I understand is normal, and seemed to be very customer-focused.

The Breakfast Klub is a truly unique restaurant and I highly recommend giving it a try. Don't be put off by the line, as it moves pretty fast and an employee will come out with menus and can answer questions. Tip: If you plan on ordering one of their signature dishes (Catfish and grits or wings and waffle) you can bypass the crowd and head across the street to a 2nd location that uses the same kitchen.

probably one of the few spots in houston that specializes in home-cooked southern meals, especially for breakfast. a quaint and laid-back dining experience in midtown. during the morning hours it gets really crowded ... the line actually wraps around the corner of the building ... and parking may be bit of a problem during peak hours. but the wait is worth it~! you won't be disappointed with the huge portions and the downright southern hospitality!*
