Quality of massage is inconsistent, some were very good, some bad and creepy. My main complain is with their business practices. After receiving a gift certificate and getting a massage outside my hometown I was pressured to sign up for their services and it seemed like a good deal. I didn't want monthly payments so I paid for the year in full. I was told I could use my credits anytime. The Massage Envy in my hometown of Santa Fe was not nearly as nice as the one in Little Rock where I signed up and I didn't feel like going very often. My year ran out and I didn't give it a second thought until I realized they had auto-renewed my membership and charged me for seven more months. Thus far, they have not refunded me for the monthly charges. Read the membership agreement carefully! Their cancelation policy is very stringent as well.

Advice: The contract needs to be read thoroughly prior to signing and should probably be reviewed by an attorney in all honesty.

Horrible massage experience. I felt like I was being worked on by a sweat shop employee. I left more stressed than when I arrived. Snotty front desk staff and high pressure sales tactics to join their "membership" program.

If you have substantiated grievances with Massage Envy as a therapist, office staff or client of one of their Franchise locations I am gathering names for a class action suit against the company.
All grievances need to be substantiated----If you did NOT READ your contract and feel like you have been badly treated by their policy and want to cancel----This does NOT apply to you
Best Wishes Barry Jones

BEWARE ??READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY-BETTER YET DON??T SIGN A CONTRACT WITH MASSAGE ENVY.. If you are going to sign a year contract be careful and make sure you read the fine print. Once you have signed a year contract there is no way they will let you out of your contract even if you are dissatisfied with the service. They continued to charge my card even though I asked them not to because of the contract I signed. It was a huge hassle talking with the less than understanding and sympathetic staff to get them to stop charging my card. In fact, they continued to charge my card for another 7 months at $49/month after my contract expired because they said that I didn't come in and sign something to have the charges stopped. Apparently it is in the contract that there is an automatic renewal and unless you come in and sign a paper in person they will automatically keep charging your card. In all they charged my card $343 even though I called on several occasions and spoke with the management to stop charging my card. I don??t remember being told I needed to come in and sign a paper to have the charges stopped even though I talked with staff on several occasions about canceling my account. My fault for not reading the contract carefully but it doesn't have to be yours. I spoke with the highest management I could get a hold of at Massage Envy to get my $343 back but was told that because I signed a contract they would not give my money back. After all the hassle, headache, and numerous phone calls they finally stopped charging my card 7 months later and only refunded me for one month. That leaves me out $294.

Massage Envy used to be fantastic. I went in and had a great massage with excellent customer service.I stopped going to this location when I was ripped off for time and a massage therapist refused to do deep tissue even though I asked. Every time I would complain someone would always say I am so sorry. I will get a manager to call, but they never did. They would also say we are trying to get back to the way we used to be,but a year later have not improved. Basically they seem to lie to make you seem like they care, but never follow though.

I am thinking "new to town" guy has the wrong address. I had a massage here for the umpteenth time, Thursday, and it was FANTASTIC AS USUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The staff were on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were efficient and courteous and extremely friendly. The massage by Jerry was for 90 minutes and I felt great. I came in with a baaaad headache and left totally relaxed and in no pain. He gave me some solid advice for my next visit which I booked before I left. This location is always well staffed and clean. I love coming here and this is one of my best investments in me.

I walked in today at 10:30 AM and managed to get an hour and a half massage scheduled for noon. Was very impressed with the availability - although they warned me that was just because it was early in the day - but still! Just got finished with my massage from Mike. An hour and a half of pure therapeutic massage. He really knows his muscle groups. Worked out zillions of knots and tense areas in my neck, shoulders and back. He took the time on the trouble spots, naming all the muscles, which I had never even heard of. Used lots of different techniques until I finally felt the muscles relax. Had some very tender spots I didnt' even know about, but he said that's common for attorneys like me who sit at my computer a lot, so my shoulders were about up at my ears. That's a lot of tension!!! He stretched my neck and worked the knots there. He said that I'm lucky I don't have migraines with that kind of tension. And I get a lot of massages! But not always therapeutic. Sometimes I just want to relax, so I'll ask them not to work the knots. This time, i'm heading for an Epsom salt bath. Should treat myself to this rigorous of a massage more often. I feel like i just worked out. Great massage. Thank you Mike. I'm going to tell all my friends who go to this Massage Envy to ask for Mike - as long as i get first dibs on the appointments, and oh yeah, don't tell my partners where I was at noon on a Friday!

I just moved to Houston, because I retired from the Navy, and was in the medical corps (Physical Therapist)
Im my 30 years of service, I've had many massages from around the world. Massage Envy is close to my home, so I thought I would give them a try. I will list my massage event:

1. The person didn"t her anatomy, when I asked her to focus on a muscle on my right leg, she went to the wrong muscle, & it wasn"t even on my leg !!!!!

2. The person's massage didn"t flow, it was jerky & hesitant.

3. The person's personal hygene was poor, breath, body & clothes smelled bad

4. Her demeanor & attitude were poor

I could not wait for the sessio to end. You can't call these people "massage therapists"
I will never return to Massage Envy again!!

Thank you, Houston, for voting Massage Envy the Best Massage in Houston on the KHOU poll. We love what we do ? providing professional, convenient massages at affordable prices ? and we are thrilled that you do, too! We have a program for everyone who wishes to enjoy the wellness benefits of massage. Most of you take advantage of our wellness program, receiving deeply discounted massages in exchange for a 12-month agreement. For those who prefer not to make a commitment, we still love to have you visit us often, and judging by the numbers, you do!
The reason for our success in serving your needs is our huge pool of talented therapists. They are the best of the best, going through rigorous training and screening prior to their hire, and rigorous orientation into the Massage Envy family afterwards. Our therapists have an average of 5 years in the profession, all with the healing gift of touch. More than half of our therapists have been with us for over a year, many for over two or three years. We have a wonderful compensation package that benefits those hard-working professionals, many of whom are able to buy their first home thanks to their job security at Massage Envy. Many of our therapists have told us that the wonderful clients and safe, fraternal work environment are the secrets to their happiness.
Again, Houston, thank you for voting us the Best Massage in Houston. We greatly appreciate your support and your business!

I received many, many massages here over the course of about two years. In general, ME is a cost-effective approach to identifying why types and styles of massage you enjoy. Once you identify one or two therapists who deliver what you want, schedule sessions with them regularly and tip them well -- they don't make much in these franchise factories. (Ask them!) But then, that's why the prices are low, right? The West Gray location deteriorated over the period of time I frequented it, and it suffers from two business killers: Service and conditions are inconsistent, and they can't hold on to their best therapists. Temperatures in the massage rooms can be too cold or too hot. Front desk staff ranges from extremely polite and efficient to surly and downright incompetent (e.g., I scheduled a new session over the phone after my favorite therapist left the company; I showed up for the appointment, and they had no record of it -- the therapist I was scheduled to see wasn't even on duty that night. These scheduling errors happened with some frequency to me and others. Unacceptable! -- this is what ME does, this is their bread and butter!) The sound system started off okay, but it ended up a scratchy mess. The "music" is not particularly pleasing, and it couldn't be changed. Some of the rooms smelled bad after the expansion. There are some fantastic massage therapists at ME -- but the most talented ones don't stay. And the talent that is there doesn't exude a lot of warmth for their employer. Why? Think about that before you set too-high expectations of this establishment. There are a lot of potential positives to this business (especially for "entry-level" massage clients), but the folks at ME clearly haven't got the business model right yet.

Pros: Pricing, sort of. Good intro to massage. Find their best therapists and frequent them!

Cons: The real talent leaves. Inconsistent service and room conditions. Aloof management.

This was my first massage EVER! The People at this location were awesome... The ladies at the front desk were inviting and gave me a complete run through of what was to happen and made me feel totally at ease. When my therapist came to bring me to the room she immediately tried to make me as comfortable as possible. We discussed what I was expecting and how she would be able to best assist me. The treatment room was quiet and relaxing, as was the massage table! I gave birth to my son about 8 months ago and have had back pain when lying down since then... By the end of the hour I noticed a major improvement in my back and last night I was able to get the best rest since my son's birth! Thanks to Ms. D! This gift card was the best present I have received in a long time!

I often turn to CIty Search before trying out a new place. I shop in the River Oaks area all the time and recently noticed this location. After reading ALL the reviews I hesitated and did not go. But it kept calling out to me when I would run errands or go shopping. FINALLY I decided to go and I am really glad that I did. I am really sorry to those who have not had a great time there but everyone there treated me as if I were family! My back has been bothering me since I had my baby who is now 2 years old! My massage therapist did help ease some of that pain and now I know that I am a work in progress. He said that if I continue doing massage like I have been with the gym, then I will see a noticable difference.I did not join the program they have there yet ( I needed to talk to my husband) but I plan to. I did ask about the reviews and one of the girls at the front desk answered me honestly and said that they upgraded their software and had a difficult time but now they were all Pro's at it. I was blown away that she admitted it instead of what most people would have done and acted like nothing was ever wrong. I am usually the person who thinks everyone is out to get me, but I read the "fine print" and really there is nothing they are trying to get over on me. I was also suprised that they had other locations not just thru Houston, but the whole country! I am glad that I went in, my back is glad too! All I can and will say, is go try them out and make an educated decision for yourself. Hopefully you will be glad you did...I am. Gonna go make my appoinment now!

I've been a member of this location for a year and still have 5 massages that I've not used. I find it nearly impossible to motivate myself to go and get a massage there. The 7 massages I have had there have been all over the map. I had one really good experience and called a month later to book with that therapist again and was informed that he no longer worked there. I've also had the absolute worst massage of my life there. I'm something of a massage junkie and have averaged a massage a week for the last 15 years. I've been all over the world and all over Houston. As a busy professional, my time is limited so when I do set aside time for a massage, I want it to be a good one. I agree with those who say you get what you pay for. The massages here are cheap.

Uuggh. Decided to try this place because it is close to my house. I thought the disparity in reviews was strange. The only thing I can come up with is that some of the staff are writing the reviews!! The massage did not start on time, and it ended 12 minutes before the hour. I couldn't feel much of a difference when I left. The experience was somewhat like visiting a fast food restaurant when you are in the mood for a nice meal. Pay a few dollars more and get a real massage.

I have lower back pain and have seen my family doctor and chiropractor for the pain, both have done what they could to relieve the pain. At the River Oaks location I have found a therapist who has done an excellent job at relieving my pain in combination with the above therapy. If you ever stop by the River Oaks location and don't have a clue what type of massage your needing just ask one of the front desk people or better yet ask for the manager.

I started getting massages at this location about 6 months ago and I have had nothing but good things to say about it to my friends and family! Nice, relaxing ambience and the therapists I have seen have always done a great job on me. They find out what I need and give it to me. I've had bad experiences at other places before, so the professional atmosphere that Massage Envy (in River Oaks) has provided for me has been a nice change of pace. I highly recommend it!

I have been going to several places and have finally decided on this location. Some of the other spas are too rude and I dont mind getting my 50 minute massage from someone who has a personality. I learned so much about massage and I dont feel guilty anymore because it is good for me! I just read some of the other reviews and I have never had that problem so I think the better phrase is you reap what you sow! I am going to start booking longer massage time since it is good for me!

I have been a member of this clinic for two years, and I am so thrilled with the expansion. It has made it much more attractive and comfortable. They are obviously doing very well! I haven't had a chance to use the couples room yet, but am planning to for Valentines Day. They are very busy, but the people are so nice and helpful, and the massages are great. I have three therapists that I request and can always get them if I call the day before. The membership has helped me to prioritize myself and get the therapy I need for my health and sanity. My family and co-workers thank you!

I tried to like this place. Really, I did. It's close to my home, it's a great price, it's easy to book appointments. But the massages were horrible. I don't think they ever took me on time, but they sure did finish up 5-10 mins before the hour, so I don't think I ever got more than 50 mins. One guy tortured me, one lady kept telling me what a great job she was doing and how great I was going to feel, while she pulled and poked until I begged her to stop. One lady was good but had such horrible hand callouses that it actually scratched my back. Another girl was actually very good, and I requested her over, a few times. Until she thought she was my "talking buddy", and would start telling me all her problems from the minute she started until her 50 minutes were up. I tried to let her know I was in "relax" mode, not "talk" mode, but she wouldn't stop. I ended up leaving more stressed than when I came.

I love massage, and I get it every chance I can. I've had massages at all sorts of spas, hotels, and private therapists. Hands down, Massage Envy is the worst place I've ever had massage. I could not wait for my year membership to be up so I could NOT renew.

Pros: Location, parking, ease of getting appointments, price

Cons: Bad massage!

Like all the other 1-star reviewers, you get what you pay for! The therapist are not up to the skill of a professional spa. I had a year membership and I had everything from someone massaging my fingers for 40 minutes to another person complaining the entire session about how tired they were. I did have one good therapist, but she was always booked when I wanted to go. One more reason NOT to join, is that it was a major ordeal to cancel my membership. They kept withdrawing membership fees (sometimes double) from my bank account stating it was some "computer glitch". It took several calls and several weeks to be refunded. Also, if you read the 5 star reviews, they sound like ads ... I am sure written by their staff. I say it is worth paying an extra 15 bucks somewhere reputable.

I disagree with what others have said. I think that the therapist are great! I have had massages all over the world and the quality you get here is just as good if not better. Sure sometimes you may have to wait a minute to check out, but the girls get you in and out as quick as possible. You are instructed to arrive a few minutes early so that they can take care of you so if you do that then there should be no problems. You will not be the only client in there so I take advantage of meeting people in and around my neighborhood. I think the service and friendliness is more important than some other snotty day spas. So if you enjoy getting more than you pay for then come to my fav place and get your knots worked out!

Pros: Friendly staff, knowledgeable therapist

Cons: Never long enough...could get 4 hour massage and still want more!

Massage Envy is to massage what Supercuts is to salons. It is cheap but you get what you pay for. I have been given 2 gift certs to go there and both times it has been disappointing.

Save up a few extra bucks and seek out a professional massage with a therapist that will treat you as the individual you are and will work with you to improve your health and stress by developing an on-going relationship with that therapist. It is well worth it.

Massage Envy = disappointment

Pros: Clean

Cons: unskilled and overworked therapists - watching the clock

Yes, it's priced low, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I have been to this location several times, hoping that my massage experience would improve if I tried different therapists. Disappointingly, they were all amateurs and had little experience. Some of the seemed nervous. One girl was so petite and timid that I felt like I was brushed with her hand for a few minutes -- no relaxation or benefit at all! If you are on a low budget and simply cannot afford to pay more than $59 for a massage (it's only $39 for your very first time, I believe, and $49 only if you join a monthly program), then I guess this is your only choice. However, for just $5 or $10 more, there are professional, experienced, FULL-SERVICE day spas in town that offer a much more relaxing experience.

Pros: Clean, simple place.

Cons: Inexperienced staff. Random quality depending on therapist. Not a relaxing place. Like a strip center medi-clinic.

Yes, the price is right but what are you getting? Massage Envy advertises $49 for a one-hour massage. However, I've been several times, and the massages seem to last, on average, about 40 minutes. When you show up for an appointment, you are normally called in several minutes after the hour. The therapists then give you an inordinate amount of time to prepare and stop the massage at 10, sometimes 15, minutes before the hour. Yes, it's still a good deal, but not the great one they advertise.

In addition, there is a horribly annoying CHIRPING bird soundtrack playing throughout all the rooms. After several minutes I asked the therapist if we could lose the birds, but she explained it was piped throughout and could not be changed. When I mentioned my recent visit to a friend, she remarked, Didn't the bird noise drive you crazy?

Finally, there seems to be a lot of scheduling problems. Twice I've had therapists cancel. Apparently, a message was left at work or on my cell, but I didn't get word until I arrived at the salon. There has been some sort of scheduling issue going on with other clients each time I have checked in. A neighbor mentioned he had received a form letter apologizing for all the scheduling problems, but this was before my time.

So, if you are on a budget this is the way to go. Just be patient and bring earplugs.

I really love the atmosphere here. It's not stuffy/snobish like most spas.
The front desk treats you like a close friend and will make jokes with you like your family.
The massage prices are very reasonable and the therapists are just as good or better than the more expensive places. Worth the try and definitly worth becoming a memeber!

Pros: Great therapists and great deal!

Cons: Lobby can get real busy in the evenings. If you have the luxury to visit early weekdays it is more relaxing.

When you walk in they are so nice.....great customer service is here! My therapist was great! He asked me what work needed to be done....then did it. I have paid twice as much for a massage lately and it was not nearly this great! I JOINED!

When I first thought of going to a Massage Envy, I was skeptical. Then I walked through the doors at the River Oaks location, and all of my skepticism vanished. This is truly one of the best Massage Therapy establishments I have ever encountered! Clean environment, friendly staff, good, knowlegeable, and helpful therapists, the prices are good, and times of operation are great! You just can't beat this. I am a therapist that have my own clientel, but when I can't accommodate a client, I send them to Massage Envy without reservation, as well book massages for myself. Good Job Massage Envy River Oaks!

What a great idea - Get a massage when you need it! You don't have to wait for days for someone to "fit you in." I love being a member and showing up for a truly relaxing massage whenever I feel stressed, sore, or just want some relaxation time. If you knew how good it was you really would have Massage Envy.

You will love this environment and therapeutic massage. The concept is great - become a member and receive a relaxing massage every month. It is something to look forward to each month. You won't find a better staff anywhere!

Why are people paying outrageous amounts for a 1 hour massage when they could come here and get as good or better 1 hour massage for $39? I'm guessing because they don't know about this fabulous place or haven't tried it yet. Massage Envy is great for travelers too because you can get a massage in a lot of the cities you travel too and there are new ones opening every day it seems like. This place is clean, professional and the massages are as good as I've had anywhere for 2-3 times the money. And the best part is I was able to walk in and get a massage when I NEEDED it. I'm loving this concept.

Massage Envy is a fantastic concept - professional massage at affordable rates. At these prices, you really can get a regular massage and reap the physical benefits instead of getting the one or two a year when you're on vacation. The therapists are great and really listen when I have specific areas I want to work on.
