I so MISS this storefront!

The Dog Bowl had THE BEST pet items I have ever seen! There was nothing like it in Houston.

I just visited and was told that they moved online.... So sad! I loved this place! The online is good too - it is huge, but there was a huge advantage to being able to go in and get advice. I thought I knew a lot about pets.... Then I started shopping here! WOW I learned a lot. Guess I will have to read their website for advice.... Oh yea and shop there too! I just ordered a huge dog bed that was on sale - marked down from $200 to $100 with free shipping! Gotta like that! The Dog Bowl storefront... we miss you!

I researched long and hard on The Dog Bowl's website before going to the boutique. I knew that they would solely sell the Biologically Approproate Raw Food diet, and that they had many speciality items that you can't find anywhere else.

When we first entered, the owner was a little awkward, but after a few minutes of asking questions about the Biologically Approproate Raw Food Diet, we started talking about other things and she began to relax and we had a very nice chat. She admitted that she's not very good at talking with customers, but she DOES know her business.

My advice to others who read the negative reviews, which are mostly based on her customer service skills - GIVE HER A CHANCE! Not everyone is a Chatty Cathy, and you never know why someone is awkward or hesitant to spill their guts to you upon first meet.

Her boutique is amazing, and yes, she does push the Biologically Approproate Raw Food Diet. It's probably the best diet for any dog or cat, and it's something she's knowledgeable and passionate about. And if you feel bad because you feed your dog or cat something other than a natural, raw diet, I say to you - no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

I give The Dog Bowl two thumbs up and four stars! I will definitely go back when our food supply gets low again!

Cons: Sometimes out of stock, but can special order

I love my dogs, and therefore I feed them a very high quality diet of The Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw foods and additional raw meats. I also supplement with Innova Evo, which is a GREAT food and salmon oils. I also spent $3000 on my dogs knee surgery this summer. Anyway, as soon as i walked in the store she quizzed me on what I feed my dogs. She then asked me where I got my meat: I answered Kroger, Randalls, Central Market, Sams Club, Costco etc. (never fiesta meat, ewww). Anyway, she chewed me out for not feeding my dogs 100% organic. When I told her I couldn't afford to do that al the time she said that I should't have a dog then. Wow! What a B****. I can't even afford to feed myself organic all the time, but I do my best. I felt like suffocated being in that tiny store. She followed me all around and kept pushing different items. I felt really bad the whole time I was there. I don't think that a store owner should be lecturing so much. I appreciate that she cares, but I think that she could do it in a different way. I drive by her store everyday for work, but I will NEVER GO BACK. There are other places that sell the same stuff like Wabash on Washington Ave, and Natural Pawz. I hope that this helps. Natural Paws has really great customer service, and they really care about pet health. They have a West U. location on Bellaire Blvd next to Whole Foods.

Pros: has good dog food options, high quality products, local

Cons: pushy, condescending, rude, criticizing, followed me

Immediately upon walking into this store I got a bad vibe. The owner is on a high horse and her personal appearance and overuse of lip gloss seem to be her biggest concern. I feed my dog one of the highest quality dry foods recommended by my vet, breeder, and other very helpful dog boutique owners. The owner of the dog bowl acted like she had never heard of it (perhaps she hadn't as she didn't seem very bright or educated in dog care) and when I asked her if she could recommend another dog store that carried my dog's food she rudely replied that she could not. This was so shocking because in my past experience, owner's of dog stores are eager to help you find the best diet and deal for your pet to ensure a healthy happy pet. Don't waste your time with this place - go somewhere that cares!

It seems as though most reviews of The Dog Bowl reflect extreme attitudes or experiences. This should be a red flag to anyone thinking of dropping by this doggie boutique.

My fiancee and I have a 6 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. Because he's a large breed with special needs and we love him, we've spent countless hours researching foods, speaking to vets, and visiting boutique dog stores trying to find the right mixture of food, environment and exercise for his optimal growth.

In our experiences, most pet stores, especially small, locally owned, and boutique stores, feature staff who are unfailingly devoted to and passionate about your pet's health and happiness. The owner of The Dog Bowl reflected none of these qualities through her patronizing glares, refusal to provide recommendations, and self-righteous arrogance when confronted with the "horrible" reality that we feed our Berner Orijen.

Until coming to The Dog Bowl, we'd never run into a person who ostensibly cares less about animals and more about her image than the staff person/owner of this establishment. Everything about my experience there tells me either her main concern is not to animals but to her business's (and by extension, she herself) or that she is deluded into thinking that her trendiness makes her and her pooch better than others outside of her social group.

While sparkles, studs, and great dog food can be great, their use as status symbols and social barriers reflects love of self rather than love of animals.

If this is not your idea of a quality dog store, then don't go here. Quality of products does not mean the store itself, or those who run it are quality people. Really- what dog store has a no return policy on food??????

Pros: Carries a good raw/frozen food

Cons: owner's, no return policy on food

I purchased an adorable rhinestone-studded collar. A week later, the rhinestones were falling out because of poor craftmanship. The store did stand behind the defective product they sold. The owner was rude when I asked for an exchange and indignant that I even asked. Buyer beware at this location.

This dog boutique is one of Houston's best. The quality of their products is exceptional and the staff is well educated on the wellness of pets. They offer a good selection of raw food for dogs as well as great boutique items.

I have shopped The Dog Bowl for over 3 years and know the quality of their products is exceptional. I want to repeatedly shop where the purchasing agent is extremely good at buying just what I've been looking for. The Dog Bowl is such a Boutique!

I just had to have my own special yorkie and needless to say her closet is full of The Dog Bowl clothes, perfume, luggage, crystal collars, leads and on and on. All top pet industry products, and this is what I shop for with love for my pet.

The "little girl" has always been on raw dog food diet, which I am very thankful for, such a convenient and healthy way of life for her. I also have heer special Dog Bowl Thermal Bag so the raw food stays frozen until we get home. She is such a happy one, and why not! She is a Dog Bow shopper.

I have had no problem in finding a parking space when I shop The Dog Bowl. There is ample parking in the rear of the store. It is Houston and respect goes a long way. I have called and had my order ready for pickup, when time was of essence, so, where else can you get such special customer service... only The Dog Bowl thank you!

I am glad to see the stre has a good no return policy. I am very assured I am buying new products and not previously sold goods. Beds not slept on by other animals, frozen food that has not been opened. As an informed shopper I do not need to buy, try and return.

I just moved to Houston and it seems like dog boutiques are "all the rage" in some cities... I found The Dog Bowl boutique carried LOTS of high quality items, not to mention raw dog food!

A lot of unique things, that if the sales person had not called it to my attention, I would have missed! I have simply not seen some of these cool things before, so at first glance I took them for granted. My advice is take some time to ask for items you may be looking for, but don't see - sometimes they are sold out or items can be special ordered. I LOVE the "catered to" service - this is why I am a regular small store/boutique shopper!

Plus I like knowing I can support the community/small businesses of Houston - since this is my new home town now! Hello Houston - Love the Village area! There are lots of small stores and boutiques here!

The Dog Bowl boutique really catered to my needs as a boutique shopper. This is why I hate PetCo!

Pro: Typical to most boutiques, they do not take returns/items back! I think this is a pro because I don't want to pay full price for a return someone else brought back - do you? Not to mention the potential for diseases! *I had a friend who went to Petsmart & bought a pet bed only to find in 1 week that she had 1,000 FLEAS who had come home with here with her USED bed purchase from Petsmart! YUCK!

Pro: Staff has a lot of product knowledge & can assist with product questions! The Dog Bowl will also ship & do special orders for you for items not currently in stock.

Con: Not open on Sunday!

As a result of the customer service at the Dog Bowl, I have found another place to purchase my dog food in Houston. The owner is a pushy and annoying sales woman who will ride you unitl you leave the store. I can't go in the Dog Bowl just to buy dog food without being pitched on 123895612890561289051 other items. Can you tell I am annoyed? I dont know if business is bad or what, but she always seems desperate to make another sale. Also, no returns! If you purchased an item that is defective, dont even think about returning it. The Dog Bowl does not stand behing their product.

I just moved to Houston from California & was feeding my dogs raw food.... Which I have found hard to find in Houston, until I found The Dog Bowl. They get product in fresh, frozen each week!

I first found the website, www.TheDogBowl (dot c o m), where I was able to shop online and found it to be a good source of information ranging from pet food to pet style.

Then I visited the storefront. Coming from California and having traveled A LOT over the past 10 years I would say that I have seen some great stuff.... but this little store got my heart racing with products I had longed for.

I found the merchandise to be current with trends and the store had good prices (really good prices), and very good quality. Lots of practical items. As with some of the seasonal items, such as sweaters and such were on sale, but I don't think they have sales very often as it seemed people were grabbing everything off the shelf when I was there.

Very busy storefront - so consider yourself lucky if you are the only one there at the moment. I would advise to come with a "game plan" (maybe check out the website before going if you are in Houston) of what you are interested in & let the sales people help, as they seem to know their inventory very well. It seemed to me that the staff could help me if I was able to express a specific need.

I just want everyone to know that if you are in Houston you are very lucky to have a store like this! It is truly one of a kind and I support it 100%. Definitely NOT a store for the Petco minded shopper.

We visited The Dog Bowl on a recent trip to Houston, having heard of it through a newspaper article. We found the selection to be wonderful, if on the expensive side, and the store itself was lovely. We bought several items that we are very pleased with. Our experience with the staff, however, was not so positive; although the woman working that day was very attentive and helpful, her overzealous salesmanship made our shopping a less pleasurable experience. We could not express interest in a single thing--to each other--without her stepping up and touting it, or offering us a deal on it, or telling us how much our dog would love it. We could not walk across the room without her pointing out something else that our dog "needed," be it a $125 carrier (too small for our dog) or a $250 Juicy Couture sling (too expensive for our budget). We did decide to buy our dog a nice leash, as a Christmas present to ourselves. When we asked her about our first choice, she informed us that she did not have the right size, and since it was last season's design we would not be able to find it elsewhere. Instead, she suggested a (cheaper, though still nice) option, and told us it was the latest design. We decided we liked it and purchased the leash, only to return home and realize that she had misled us, and the leash we had purchased was not this season's. Our first choice leash, readily available on the internet, was this season's. We are satisfied with our purchase, but cannot help feeling somewhat misled. This feeling is exacerbated by the conversation we had with her on the raw diet, which we have extensively researched--we could not help but feel that she was (understandably, since she sells this food) very biased, and did not present all the information that did not help her cause. (acronym not allowed)

In the end, though we very much liked the selection at The Dog Bowl and the items we purchased, we both feel that we would not be interested in returning there.
