I recently purchased gasoline using other than their preferred "American Express" card. I noted a $100.00 surcharge for th use of my debit card. This is a theft of the use of my card without my authorization. In addition, I am wondering if this is a way of forcing consumers to use their preferred card, American Express. American Express is a dog of a credit card. I destroyed my cards and will not use that company ever. Likewise, I am currently fighting this form of theft through a large reputable consumer group, Consumer Union. I hope others will join with me in fighting this theft and forced coercion to use their preferred credit card.
