I attended JJAEP of Houston Tx at the end of my senior year in 2006 for carrying brass knuckles in my vehicle.
The environment in JJAEP was depressing and counterproductive. I myself was not a victim of any harrassment, but harrassment was overwhelming the school. I understand that JJAEP should be a punishment for students, but the staff went overboard. One staff member would physically attack students. I personally saw him grab a 15 year old student by the neck lift him up in the air and slam him into a window, then he proceeded to intimidate him and yell at the student. This was one of many instances that happened at JJAEP that was basically illegal and immoral.
I was told by my Assistant Princiapal that a school board would show up and observe the staff and students in the school. The school board did come to Juvenile Justice and Excellerated Program, but when they arrived the atmosphere changed drastically. The staff members were stern but not overly aggressive or violent, so the school board probably did not see anything wrong.

Pros: Is a great punishment for students who break the law.

Cons: Too excessive, too violent, verbally abusive, no control over student on student confrontation, no learning at all.
