My boyfriend, mother and I recently went to Sonoma Grill for dinner. When we arrived, the hostess was beyond rude and had mixed up our reservation. Then, they switched waiters on us mid meal without notice. These are all petty problems in comparison to the $200 my mother had STOLEN out of her wallet!!!!! We left the restaurant for not even 5 minutes, realized we no longer had the purse, returned and the manager said she had put it right in the safe. Uh huh. My mom's wallet was completely empty - not a dollar bill left. The manager had "no idea" what happened - and would "get to the bottom of it". Not exactly. She didn't return calls, and when we finally tracked her down a few days later she said there was nothing she could do. I will NEVER go there again and will be telling EVERYONE I know NOT TO EAT AT THE SONOMA GRILL. They are crooks!!!!

During a recent trip to Dallas, I had a few hours to spend "exploring" a neighboring city. I chose Tyler from a map (1.5 hour drive east of Dallas), and used citysearch to find a restaurant for lunch.

I liked the sound of "Sonoma Grill" because one of my favorite vacation spots is Sonoma, California. I read the one review on citysearch and thought I'd give it a try. Boy, I make a great decisions!

The drive into Tyler was pleasant - passing ranches and homes then suddenly entering the southern "metropolis" of Tyler.

Sonoma Grill is located in a new building one-block off I-69/Broadway Avenue. The decor is dark-wood, autumnal colors, comfortable and shwank. The bar is perfect - lots of product and smart bartender. The hostess and servers are friendly but not clingy - so, no annoying chit-chat but instead plenty of true care for whether or not you are in need of anything and enjoying your experience). The menu offers steakhouse/seafood fine dining fare but without an ounce of pretention and plenty of fresh vegetables available. I had calamari as an app - very tasty, not oily, crisp, and served with spicy butter sauce and warm marinara. The daily specials are seasonal and enticing. I had pistachio crusted trout fillet with a side of spinach - best trout I've ever had. The coffee is good and strong - perfect after dinner with one of the desserts. Pumpkin praline cheesecake was my choice.

This was the best dining experience I've had in the south. I'm so glad I took the time to try a new city, and I happily discovered a jewel during my travels!

Go, eat, enjoy!

My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch here and really enjoyed the casual atmosphere. The service was excelent as well as the food. We were staying the weekend in Tyler so we asked the server where some good places to visit were. He gave some good ideas for us and just to show Tyler hospitality he gave us a Creme brulee on the house. A very pleasant experience.
