I hired Certa pro becuase of their affliation with Costco - you get a discount when you book through the Costco store in Austin. Since Costco has generally a good reputation I was expecting the Certa pro folks to work out well.
The came out for the free estimate very quick - and gave me the Costco discount. I accepted the quote and they arrived to paint the following week. So far so good.
When they painted the ceilings, the paint looked terrible. They claimed it was because the ceilings needed a second coat and wanted more money. I had no choice but to fork over the extra money so the job could continue (amazingly it was about the price of my costco discount...hmmm).
Then they painted the walls and guess what - those needed a second coat too. I was painting an off white color over a white wall and it looked just awful. At this point I put my foot down and told them it was unacceptable to keep coming back for more money after the job had been quoted and agreed on. I told them to pack up and go. Suddenly the guy who did the original quote came out to our house and said they'd do it (put on the second coat) for no more money...so I let them continue.
Then came time to do the trim. The painters in the house said they would do the lower trim but not the crown molding- that that would have to be a separate charge. Hello - I have a quote in my hand that says paint walls, ceilings and trim for one price!!!! Eventually the did paint all the trim (including the crown modling) but what a hassle!
The crew put a lot of paint on my carpet near the baseboards so they had to be reminded to clean that up (which they did reasonably well) (but shouldn't professional painters not make a mess in the first place? My whole house smelled of turpentine for days as a result of the "clean up").
They missed a number of spots on the ceilings and walls which I had to go back again and again to get them to fix (while they were still out here working ---it was a 4 day job here). Some where never done and I still have spots in places.
They had done some touch ups the night before the last day and the paint dried a different color from the wall color. I asked them to fix it up before the left on the final day. (They'd mixed up which paint color went where). They did it really fast and left the final day and guess what- they made the same mistake twice so all the touch ups stand out as they are not the right paint color (just a shade off).
They made all sorts of excuses about the quality of the paint, the inexperience of the quy who quoted the job, etc but since they provided the paint and did the quote I really expected a much better job with much less hassle.
I also had them repair some drywall cracks. The ones in the walls they did an ok job on - but the ones on the ceilings they did a terrible job on. I could have done a better job (and now I will have to to fix what they left behind).
Based on my experiences, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a painting company. These guys are just too much hassle.
We recently moved into a new home and faced the daunting task of painting at least two rooms. Yechhh! As we both suffer from asthma, we knew we needed to have a professional handle the task. We'd recently received a direct mail postcard from Certa Pro Painters, so I called them.
What an awesome experience! The salesperson, Matthew Tims, was both professional, clean-cut, and knowledgeable; answering numerous questions and providing solid responses for our inquiring minds. We had a bid within 10 minutes of our meeting.
I selected my paint, hired the team, and was amazed as to the super fast response and highest quality level of work. The team painted both a large bedroom and guest bathroom within a morning, including prep time and clean up. Both painters spoke English and were also clean cut and knowledgeable. Best of all, they respected our property and took very special care in handling our tasks.
I recommend them without hesitation and hope to use them again soon.
Pros: Super professional!
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
