You should be able to give a zero-star rating!!
I went here a few years ago and it was okay (not great, but acceptible). This time, here's what happened:
-Waiter never refilled water- we had to request more.
-Beef was half fat cut up and

I heard good reviews in real life about this place, so I had to check it out. I visited the first time with the intent of smoking shisha, I didn't have my card, rather I had the temporary paper that the DPS gives during a waiting period, the waiter didn't accept and took our drinks, we didn't want to leave, we were hungry. I ate, the food was alright. Second time I had my real card, they accepted, but the hookah was way overpriced, and they never clean out the coal for you unlike Ranoosh (highly recomend). The food, like the first time, took way to long (it was shawarma sandwich), about 30 minutes. They sneak in a 15% tip like Maryz (ripoff) and than expect you to pay another tip, seems like a scam, especially with the terrible service. I recommend Ranoosh.

A few years back, I attended Cafe Layal for the first time. I was really impressed, since I had never been to a hookah place before. It was never really full and most of the clientele was middle eastern. When I attended a few times recently after a long time of not being there, it was a change of 180 degrees; it was full of high schoolers (which I bet if they began carding again, half of the restaurant would be empty), both of the times that I went recently, it took almost 20 MINUTES just to place out order (one of the times, the place wasn't even full).
It's sad to see that this place has completely gone to the dumps. I go there once in a while now, but my friends and I have been forced to look for other places that offer better service.

This place is always crowded!! Ther food is delicious but they have jacked up their prices a lot! It's a good hangout place in the summer and you see a mix of the crowd...Parking is awful though- always full on the weekends.

Beware of paying with credit card. I was told my credit card was declined (had plenty of limit on the card), so I gave them another one which they charged. 2 months later they charged me on the first card that they said they declined. So basically they double charged. If it happens to anyone beware of getting double charged which could be few months later.

Nothing about this place is unique. I have been to this place quite a few times, each time watching them become bigger and bigger douceh bags. they have started forcing to pay to park. thats when you have to go park at fast eddie's and risk your car being towed. It normally takes 40 minutes for them to bring out your food. Your soda's will never get re-filled (so drink slowly).
I have brought friends that dont smoke a couple of times, and the manager said they had to pay for hookah anyways. That def. makes business walk away. They are not friendly at all. unless your of their heritage, they don't seem like they care about you. they display really bad attitudes.
Me and a few other people i know were charged twice for the ticket. We calmly went to the manager just to have him deny everything basically. I will never step back in that place, and i guarantee about 60 people i know will never be back there either. i hope they get shut down.
This place has never checked an ID since i started going there. So its basically a teenage spot waiting to get busted.

NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE. you will just leaved stressed. About two blocks away is an AMAZING hookah/Lebanese restaurant. Its called MARYS. I have been going there for 3 years. They actually treat there frequent customers with respect. I have no problems with them.

We went there with a couple of my friends to experience one of these arab-like nights. First one of the staffs directed us to a patio space with a bunch of dirty and crappy chairs and tables which were supposed to be for the people who want to smoke hookas. Then we deciced to go inside and order some food. I can't talk more about how lazy, rude and incompetent the waiters were. Me and 2 of my friends had to go there every 20 minutes and ask them what happened to our food. The service was terrible. I had to find a table with a glass of water and take it myself since the waiter wasn't even instructed about the very basic things of satisfying the customers' needs.
About their food, well, I would just say their food recommendation (chicken shawarma) wasn't even close to being average.
The funny thing was that all of us were charged automatically on the tips, and we couldn't stand it when we received the last bill which was even asking for another gratuity! This place is by far the worst place I've ever visited and I can't really see a positive point except its location.

Horrible service wit ha very rude manager, waiters were playing around and we should go and call them for everything. They were talking in Arabic right in front of customers, so rude and annoying!
I took them to bring my food 30 minutes while it was not busy there.
That was one of the worst restaurant I??ve ever seen!

Service is horrible. We had to literally go and call the waiter every single time, even on obvious items such as water. This was the first place I wanted to leave absolutely NO tip, but the thieves had automatically added a tip for themselves. Manager was not just unhelpful, but rude enough to chat with the waiter in (I'd assume) ARABIC in the middle of our conversation.

I did not understand why they charged me a tip of 15% for a party of 2, then gave me another receipt to add more tip on my credit card receipt after charging it on a casual lunch day. That is highway robbery. Are all Lebanese arabs thieves?

Went there and had the chicken with rice and hummus, seemed ok. I accidentially left my camera there, but of course, the manager knew nothing about it the next day. I shouldn't leave valuables at a restaurant and that was my fault, but the fact no one turned it in is the restaurant's fault and reflects on the honestly of their staff. I also had problems with the food the next day, so needless to say won't be back for both reasons.

Cafe Layal was great. I took 2 friends who have never tried hookah before and we enjoyed all the three flavors we ordered. The waiter kept bothering us though. He asked for my ID not once, but twice and kept asking me are you sure you're 18. He could not do the math right and realize I was over 18. He also made us uncomfortable when he would come over and also ask my friends if they were 18. They showed him their IDs but he thought they were fake. We would've had a greater time if the waiter wouldnt have kept asking us if we really were 18. We're all over 21. But other than that, the hookah was great, be sure to try the sisha flavors with mint! The smoke feels a lot better with mint! I will be back in about a week or two, but hopefully I get a different waiter who makes my experience a little bit more enjoyable. 4 stars.

My husband and I went to this place for the dinner. After a few minutes we asked the waiter if we could switch our table because it was very dirty. He told us why we did not tell him immediately after we sat there. My husband told him that the same table was ok. We ordered Hummus because I reaaly love it. It was unbelievably bad. I have tried hummus in several middleeastern restaurants and all of them are by far better than this. If you want a good hummus do yourself a favor and go to Kasra or Shavarma king.

I would have given this place zero stars if it was an option. I have not seen such rude waiters and mangers in a restaurant in my life. I went there on a friday night with my friends. we ordered food but the waiter (a middle aged guy) brought us a different plate size of the same food. Of course we didn't understand because it was our first time there. when we asked for the check we found out that we had to pay almost three times as much as we thought it would be. we told the waiter and he got mad at us. when we insisted that we were specific in choosing the item (we had shown him our order on the menu so it was his fault to bring a different thing) he went to change the check (my friened has already given him his credit card). we waited for another 15 minutes but the waiter did not come back. so we decided to just pay the check as it was and leave. my friend signed the check, took his credit card and we left. we told the waiter (he was standing at the front desk) that we left the signed check on the table. 2-3 minutes later we were still outside the restaurant talking that the waiter and the manager of the restaurant came out and very impolitely told us why we did not pay for the food. first we thought that they were joking but they were sirious. i went inside and showed him the signed check that was still on the table. The waiter did not even have the courtesy to apologize. DEFINITELY would not go back to this sh**** place again.

Layal's manager kicked me out for offering him $20 to find me a better table after he kept repeating to sit my 4 friends and I a table in the very back with one broken chair, at the same time he had several tables that seated 4 open with no one sitting in them. I nevertheless will never go here again.

Well as far as hookah places go, this would probably be among the best for that. Definetly beats Ranoush hands down. I dont understand why it took so long to have a place like this in Houston.
It has a nice atmosphere and the crowd is interesting. Food is ok and could be better ( can't say it's real authentic middle eastern, for that I recommend Dimassi's which is also on Richmond) but the prices are not too expensive.
My main issue with the place is service. It takes way too long for the servers to come and attend to your needs at times and that happens even when the place is not too busy. And once you get served they rarely come back and check on you like they are supposed to, at times I have to get up and ask for some service! That really bothers me and for people who rely on tips is kinda strange! But until somone comes up with a better hookah place it will have to be Layal for now.
I have not tried the live entertainment, but I think i will just to see what it's like.
Overall I would recommend trying it at least once.

I went there few times already and the food is not amazing, more like an OKAY middle eastern food. This is coming from a Middle eastern person herself. The few times I've been there, people who work there were mean and the service was VERY slow. Two of the times, we were asked to leave our tables after we sat explaining that the owner kids are coming, this is after we asked if we could sit there and they said it was ok. The belly dancers they had one night need to take ALOT of dancing classes. Music is good though.

Bad service, Okay food, Okay music, bad dancers; then why do we keep going? They have one of the best Hookah in town. It's always crowded and packed with Middle eastern/paki people. So if you want to be where the crowd is, then Cafe Layal is the place to be; althought most of the people there are teenagers.

If you go there, double check your recipte before you leave. My friends once left cash and 2 credit cards and asked the server to split the check. Days laters, they discoverd she kept all the cash for herself and charged both credit cards with the full amount.

Layal is a full Mediterranean restaurant with beautiful interior and both indoor patio with ceiling fans and an outdoor patio. If you like to smoke the Hooka (Shisha) Layal is the best place to offer differnt flaivors of it. Thier menu include Kebob: Chicken, lamb or beef, Falafel Grape Leaves and Dips (Hummus, Babaganouj). Some times it get too crawded.

Cafe Layal is by far the best place to smoke a hookah. The patio is huge with a nice open air feel. The restaurant is nice; it has a nice middle eastern feel, and is clean. The best nights to go are wednesday, and especially sunday. Valet service is provided on those nights, and all the hot cars are shown off in the front spots. The crowd is always friendly, but if your not Arabic, youll probably get some looks. Ive been numerous times with friends, and the last time I was there, I was the only white guy out of a crowd of maybe 200. Great music (if you like authentic, live arabic music), and interesting servers (look for Irina) make this place a lot of fun on a sunday evening.

Ive been numerous times with friends, and the last time I was there, I was the only white guy out of a crowd of maybe 200. Great music (if you like authentic, live arabic music), and interesting servers (look for Irina) make this place a lot of fun on a sunday evening.

Pros: Very Good Hookah, Great ambiance, Nice music

Cons: Not a diverse crowd, Waitresses insane
