It started back in 2006 when two Time Warner Cable representatives came to my door. The story was they had an issue with digital cable in the area and we could "do them a favor" by accepting a free box for 30 days. According to them the cable signal is a closed loop and with us having a box it would help them track down "the problem"

I clarified that the box was free, it would be picked up in 30 days AND there would be NO CHARGE. They confirmed, wrote the notes on the bill and signed that I took possession of the hardware. Guess what happened in 30 days...right, nobody came for the box and I got a bill. I called management and explained how wrong it was to lie to consumers just to make sales. I also demanded the charges be taken off the bill. The manager I spoke with was very apologetic and said he would remove the charge and, yes, that is not a good business practice.

Well, I found out a couple months ago that he DID take off the cable BOX charge but did not remove the MONTHLY $9.95 digital recorder fee. So over the past 6 years I have been paying for something I have never gotten. They are unwilling to refund me the roughly $750.00 that I am owed. Their solution was to CREDIT me 6 months of DVR fee to my bill (that's about $59.70).

So, since they are not willing to refund ANY of what I am owed and only willing to CREDIT a FRACTION of it I have no other choice to take other action. I have contacted the local newspapers, Better Business Bureau and consumer groups. I will also involve an attorney.

I do not want anything for free, I just want what I am owed to me and nothing more.

My advice is do NOT sign up with Time Warner Cable (Austin, Texas) under any circumstances.

I like to watch football games on a 30 minute delay, using my DVR but time warner austin screwed me last night on the U.T. vs Tech game!

I found a new website - timewarneraustinsucks dotcom - great place to let time warner austin know how you feel about them!

Pros: NON-EXsistent

Cons: POOR Customer Service

Time Warner is cheating all of it's subscribers from the coverage it promises when you sign up. They are screwing us during the height of the election season and shirking their fiduciary duties. And they don't care. Ca-ching, Ca-ching, gotcha focused capitalism. I wish I didn't have six T.V.s and internet to deal with because otherwise I would have signed off long ago. I have tried contacting them at least four times in the past three weeks but they don't respond because they don't care. Fool me once.....

I won't ever use Time Warner again. The day the installer was supposed to show up, I left early from work. He never showed up. I called to see where he was, was put on hold, then was told by the dispatcher that he tried to call twice. He didn't.

The next day, I left early again from work. The installer, a subcontractor, was an hour late. Then he couldn't get my router to work. After almost two hours, he gave up and vowed to come back the next day. The next day he spent 2 hours trying to fix the problem to no avail. He left to go pick up some more routers and suggested I call to complain. I did and asked how I could guarantee that my service would be working after the next visit (this was after being on hold for 20 minutes). I was told that they couldn't control the subcontractors. When the guy showed up again, he worked for another hour before giving up. I told him to just take everything with him and I'd get a refund. I was tired of it and I'd just wasted my Saturday.

Monday, I spent two hours on the phone with Time Warner trying to get a refund. I'd tell my story, the person on the other end would transfer me, and I'd be on hold for 5 to 20 minutes, only to have to retell my story. Finally I got through and was assured I would receive a full refund in two weeks on the debit card I'd originally paid with. I repeated the exact amount on my bill, said "this much in two weeks?" I was reassured that I would.

More than two weeks later I hadn't received my refund, so I called again, only to be told it hadn't been processed yet and would still be another 4 to 6 weeks. I went to the customer service center on Stassney, retold the story, said I was expecting a credit to my account in two weeks that I never received. The rep looked over my account, and then said something to the effect of, "What's the deal, it's only 7 dollars?" It was actually $140. I stood there for a half hour before they cleared it up. Now I still have to wait 30 days.

Infuriating.

this company is so expensive and treats their customers poorly. they refuse to offer the NFL network and now are pulling our local channels, KXAN NBC!!!! If you can go with satellite I highly recomend avoiding the Time Warner cable monopoly!!!! they seem to have a grudge against the football viewing public!

I actually had a good customer service experience with Time Warner. DeeDee answered my call about getting a wireless router installed (since the technician hadn't done that). She was quite helpful AND saved me a bit of money - said to go to Best Buy or Circuit City and pick one up, hence a one time purchase fee as opposed to a recurring fee from Time Warner. Thanks DeeDee!

Now to see how the cable and such pan out...

Customer service has improved but the wait time is crazy! When the network would go down in my area I would get a phone call to notify me. They don't do that any more. Probably because my internet goes down too many times. I would switch if I could, but still hopefull.

Time Warner cable has probably got to be the worst high speed cable provider I have ever used. They promise you 5Mbps but in actuality its UP TO 5Mbps, so technically you could be at 1Mbps... or in my case 500Kbps down speed, and 300kbps up speed =\... Their management are very unprofessional also. I would recommend another cable provider, or even maybe DSL since time warner speeds are worse then DSL.

Cons: You can reach the internet at snail speed!
