I went to the restaurant just because of the mariachis; however, I was disappointed that I had to pay them $15 to play one song! I had been a customer at a different restaurant where the mariachis were paid by the restaurant and only

We have been here several times on our own. We then bought a certificate on a popular website and when we tried to use it, they said we couldn't use it and then they put an extra $10 tip on our tab without our authorization. On top of

The food was really good but the service was horrible!

The waitress was rude and neglectful the entire time. Things went from bad to worse when we tried to use a gift card for more than the price of the meal.

Apparently it is restaurant

We started with the idea of driving out on Westheimer to try a new place. Doneraki looked festive, so we stopped. It is beautiful inside, nicely decorated, with tasty chips and warm salsa. That is where the fun ended.

I ordered "carnitas in banana leaf" which is supposed to be tender, tasty pork, but was more like chewing on a shoe. The refried beans were from a can, and the rice (though edible) was also tasteless. Basically, they start with poor-quality food then prepare it with no seasoning. I called the waitress and sent my plate away.

My 2 friends were able to eat their food only after pouring on bowls of salsa. Never had we been to a Mexican restaurant where the food had so little flavor! I told the manager we were "particularly underwhelmed" and I was definitely unwilling to try another dish; I figured whoever served me the pork-flavored-shoe would still be working the grill.

Here's the kicker: the pitchers of margarita were $28 apiece. I put in $20 even though I didn't eat anything but leftover tortilla. DO NOT GO HERE.

As I drove up to this place, my wife said," We have been here before and you did not like it." Well, I had forgotten this, but within 30 minutes, we were ruing to the car never to return... I will never forget this time. We ordered nachos which were bland and after eating the fourth one, the waitress came up immediately as I realized that there was something else in the nacho other than what I was expecting... it was a chunk of aluminum embedded in the sour cream. When the waitress saw me remove it from my mouth, she was much surprised as I was and asked if I wanted anything else. I relied, "no, just my check." The check came and I was charged full price... much to my chagrin... left cash with a "small tip" and ran to the car never ever to return.

I'm usually not the one to complain. We had very poor service. There were like 20 of us and they only allowed us to have one waiter. And she repeatedly got our orders wrong. My fiance and I ordered fajitas and never recieved our tortillas after asking for them like four times. By the time we got them it was, 20 mins later, our food was cold. We never recieved refills, and they were very rude even after all of their mistakes. I would not recommend this place to even my worst enemy. I never write reviews about anything, but in this case, I wanted to put their service out there.

I have been going here for about 7 years now... The micheladas are amazing! The salasa is tempurature hot (hard to find), Ceviche is to die for, the tortillas are also amazing and the saturday/Sunday breakfast is my favorite part of the weekend hands down! With over 100 items on the buffet there is no way you can't find one of donerakis treats to make your Saturday morning even better!

Pros: ceviche, weekend buffet, MICHELADAS

Cons: loud on saturday nights

I love going here for lunch. It's never crowded, it's cheap and you get free queso. If you can drink with your lunch, the margaritas are good and cheap too. The food is your standard tex-mex but it's worth the value. I recommend the fajitas or anything off the cheap lunch menu. The service is inconsistent. Sometimes quick and sometimes slow. The only complaint I have is the mariachis on weekend nights. I don't enjoy that kind of music so it's loud and annoying.

Loud, rude service, nasty food, even nasty drinks, yet people flock there. Why? I have no idea. I guess overall Houstonian don't have any idea what good Mexican food should taste like.

My husband and I both love Doneraki. It's one of those restaurants that you can count on being open, having people and good food. My absolute favorite thing there is their Chicken Mole Enchiladas. Not everyone loves Mole but since I am from a Mexican culture I grew up eating Mole and no one makes it better and more authentic that the folds at Doneraki. When ever we travel and come back to Houston the first place we crave going to is Doneraki.. Casual, fun and very reasonably priced. It's a Houston institution.

Pros: Fun atmosphere, Good Mexican Food and the best Mole in town

Cons: When there's lots of people and the mariachis are playing it can be loud

I like Donerakis tortilla soup and fajitas. Plus they have great deals on pitcher Margaritas from 11am-7pm (the margaritas arent that great but the price $12 a pitcher is awesome).

Soft corn tortillas chicken tacos.. Tastless
Beef soup with more beef fat that beef. No flavor
green sauce for chips like bland baby food. Hot sauce too damn hot.
Why this place was crowded on a Friday night is beyond me.

Crazy, busy, friendly place serving strong cocktails and standard Mexican fare. Roaming Mariachi band makes for festive atmosphere! Great people-watching with people from all slices of life gathered and in a good mood -- even on a Monday night!

This is a fun restaurant. The attitude is very casual, but you can get a tasty meal with cheerful service. It gets busy and noisy on weekend nights, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner this might not be the place. However, if you want to get a group together for a good time, kids included, give it a try. Doneraki also has a greater variety of desserts than many Mexican restaurants, which is a nice feature.

The decor of the restaurant along with the Mariachi was a lot of fun and very festive. Chips and salsa were both quite good, and I have never been disappointed by any of my entrees (and neither have my friends who I have taken). Service was pretty good and the atmosphere was very comfortable, unlike some of the other restaurants in the area. Above all, their food is what keeps me going back.

Doneraki is a fun place with its nightly mariachi band, year-round Christmas lights and colorful paper decorations. But don't bring a romantic date, as it can get quite noisy. It requires lots of concentration to review the huge menu,…
