This is a place for childeren but they treat the adults like $hit if the staff don't like you then you have to argue with them everyday until you get nothing accomplised either they'll just say you can leave or maybe gary isn't the place for you and i'm like you lazy whore do your job i live in the ghetto dorm 5105 and holyshit this is a fapping junvinile detintion center it feels like it I'm 22 years old I got held here like I was 10 years old for a guy trying to fight me who was a skinny nerd at that these people are stupid also a huge majority of the staff were students and the students were ghetto ass retards of all colors mainly black white & mexican the girls are sluts too it's amazingly like a Uni sex jail with no seperation people smoke weed here they Fluffing they gop to class do work and kiss ass and sleep after a long roll call this place is retarded they'll treat grown ups like $hit dude this is a fluffing daycare and it's anoyying if you are good at not giving a half a ratsass then you will make it if you don't then i don't know now a person did die while on center i was there he died becuase the medical staff walked slowly to the body instead of calling 911 first. They waited around like retards I am telling you these people need a real investigation you know that MTC manages Correctional facilities which are known as jails prisons and this place is practically ran like a prison more a juvinile detention center/community college in my opinion. This place needs to be burned down to the grown and rebuilt with all new everything even the wiring and pluming.

Ok. I am currently at Gary Job Corps. whoever told that fake ass story at the very beginning of the reviews is a LIE!! There is 4 girls, to a room. You must make your beds neatly. And attend class everyday. They dont get no gloves and check nothing. You clean it and after everybody leaves. They do dorm inspections and thats it. I have been here since March of 2012 and still here and the stupidity that the girl said about being jumped and raped on Martin Luther King Day was a DAMNNN LIE. People these days are stupid and ignorant and need to grow up.

Job Corps was like nothing I had ever experienced before. There were six girls to a cube (room) and three bunk beds. We had morning and evening duties, which consisted of: cleaning toilets and showers, sweeping and mopping the bathrooms, cubes and TV room. We dusted our beds and lockers and made our beds military style. You had to be able to bounce a quarter off the middle of your bed. They also came in with a white glove to inspect your bed and locker every morning before breakfast. You could not leave until your cube was up to code and your assigned dorm duty had been done.

About a week after orientation, a rumor started that on Martin Luther King??s birthday, if anyone stepped out of their dorm who wasn??t of the Black race, they would be jumped and beaten. I didn??t believe it was true. Everyone had been so nice to me.

On the day of Martin Luther King??s birthday, one of my closest friends had gone to breakfast and had not yet returned. I decided to go see if she was in the pool hall because I was bored. A friend of mine, who??s name was Lee, called me from his dorm to see what I was doing. I told him I was just leaving to look for my friend Joyce. He didn??t want me to go alone so he came to my dorm to walk with me. We walked to the pool hall together. We looked but could not find Joyce anywhere. We decided to leave. As we were walking out, we noticed a large group of Black guys standing right outside the pool hall. We just kept walking. We had only taken a few steps when we noticed the group behind us. One of the guys in the group said, ??Let??s get this mf and rape his girlfriend.? I asked Lee, ??Are they talking about us?? Lee said, ??I don??t know. Stay calm, and keep walking.? We started walking a little faster. All of the sudden, they were all
around us. There were thirty, at least! They started beating Lee down. They were kicking and punching him. I froze! I was in shock. You think in that situation I would have run for my safety, but my body would not work. Lee was on the road in a puddle of blood and there was nothing I could do to help him! Just then, a Black guy ran up to me, pulled me away from there, and said, ??Run! Hurry!? I turned around to run to my dorm to get help. Another Black guy came running from the square . The square was a place in the center of the dorms with a gazebo where people hung out. He yelled out, ??Hey! Leave those people alone! He and a couple of other guys came to help Lee. I made it to the dorm safely and got help for Lee.

Lee was beaten badly. He suffered a concussion to the head and a few broken bones. I felt so bad. If I wouldn??t have gone looking for Joyce, none of it would have happened.

After the incident, I would see Lee standing by himself between classes. I felt guilty and didn??t know if I should approach him. Maybe he was mad at me. I??ll never know. I do know that I was very lucky to have come out without even a scratch. People told me of girls who were raped and beaten and left by the train tracks that night.

The day I left was a sad day for me filled with mixed emotions. Joyce, little Ricky and Ronald were there to see me off when my parents got there to pick me up. They each gave me a hug. Little Ricky and Joyce cried and Ronald made me promise to keep in touch. I did. A part of me wanted to say, ??Never mind. I want to stay.? But my family had driven there to pick me up and I was being released, it was too late.

My experience at Gary taught me something I could have never truly learned in a classroom, church or from any book. I became all to aware of the danger and stupidity of Racism. To judge someone simply by the color of their skin is wrong, I already knew that, but to experience it first hand like that, made me realize that it is very real and very alive out there, even today. That??s a lesson that will never be forgotten.

I went to gary twice and graduated both times holding leadership positions the second go round. Im not gonna sit up here and lie, its HARD. you WILL deal with bully's, people with discipline and anger issues, fighting, drama, EXTREME stress, and still will be expected to complete all your responsibilities and comply with all rules. you have to remember that not all but MOST of the students attending come from a bad background, are young immature dont know how to or just refuse to act right. SOME of the instructors and residential adviser's play favorites and shockingly are just as childish as some of the students and some are just as shady in general. like i said, its HARD and its not for everybody, but dont let it intimidate you. Ive been out of gary for going on 3 years now and i thank god for every trial and tribulations it put me through. Being out on my own i have had to go through some of the same things and its only because ive had pressure on me like that that i know how to handle myself under extreme pressure and stress. you have to deal with bad bosses, co workers, crappy friends stress and responsibilities in the real world. LIFE IS HARD!!!! u will want to scream and cry (i cried and thats RARE) the stress is enough to get to anyone. so if you need to cry then step away by your self and cry and scream, then shake it off and do what you gotta do. YOU WONT REGRET IT. even if you dont end up working in your trade. Show yourself how strong you can be. DONT lose who you truely ate and DONT FALL IN TO THE WRONG CROWD. Remember why you came stick to that. If you really go through gary and apply some of the life lessons to your real life you will be unstoppable (as cheesy as that sounds its 100% true) dont put limitations on yourself and you willl go far. I would have never been able to see myself at the place i am now in life. i love my life and i love the confidence that comes with knowing what im capable of, its empowering and its some thing you can only get through pushing yourself.

From what I've read in all these past comments about Gary it would most defently make u not want to attend but this is how I see it i have mi diploma and if you're offering me free learning I will take advantage of it regardless of the unstable environment that I'm in... I'm not in Gary yet but I do have a strong interest in joining

Got recruted and went off to Texas State Technical College Waco, and the reason why I came accross this is to find a # for gary because I'm out of school now with two Associate Degrees one in Electrical Power & Control and the other in Electrical Instrumentation looking to get employment in pay ranges $21 and up. Just stay focus and ask the almighty to help you. 1Luv * & Blessings

Wow... Reading the reviews it hasnt changed one bit. I stayed in 5104 and damn it was bad then... When I was there 2 people got taken out. A girl in my dorm got rapped and came in with a ratt tail comb stabed in her throat. Real talk. It was so ludacris our advisors wuldnt even get involved anymore, I have heard that it has gotten a little better since that new director took over. Cus the other one didnt give a damn about any of us. He was always locked up in his office. He never saw the viloince that was happening. I never wanted to go out at night. Especially from the pool hall or my boys dorm which was all the way in th eback by the machinist classes. If you want to go to Job Corp be warned it isnt what that little booklet says. Its like a jail with everyone mixed in it. Although I cant say i didnt enjoy it. some of my greatest memories are form their. And my 2 closest friends are the same ones i shared a dorm room with

To the point, Im there, its insane. The familia, crips, mexican mafia, bloods are the majority of the gangs. So much stuff is talked every entire day. Tell you the truth The Construction trades are the most violent trades to get in. Another thing is is that there is alot of gay and lesbiens and i mean alot so lay on your back. Truth be told, you will not stay there and not have someone to get in your face and try to fight you. I almost got stabbed, i been in four fights so far and almost got stabbed. the whites have it the worst. Get used to "white boy" and "p**sy" cuz thats wat they call whites. I thought i knew bad people but wow you'll meet people cussing out teachers, druge trafficking, minors smoking, fighting, and drama drama. Advice, bring an Ipod but lock it up when you aint using it. Stealing is a HUGE issue. If you think you can handle it, come on but its not like the brochure. This place is hell. Dont get into construction trades! if you do, dont go to D-block. trust me, you'll no what that is if you come. If you make it here, you can make it anywhere. I been here since 2009
im still here. all i can say ignore the bul or you wont last 2weeks and stay away from the druges. Drugg test when you get here too. PS: some is mispelled because it wont let me write what i need.

hello, i live at gary job corps and i have a few things to say about it, VIOLENCE! fights everywhere, just like a month ago one of my good friends got stabed and sent to the hospital over some stupid stuff, there are fights everyday, and excesive substance abuse everywhere, u can walk down the street on campus and smell ganja in the air, people say its what u make of it, but thats not true, if ur a white male like me u will most likely get jumped and robed, i almost got robed by 3 black males the other day there, but i had to fight to buy time untill the staff got there, i do NOT recomind this place, it is just a waste of time

well i dont go there but my bother attends and he tells me he really likes it.. only the people who are involved with the violence there can complain cause if you keep your head straight and dont worry about all the violence then you will be good, and you can complete with no problem. when i graduate i plan to attend because i really like what i hear. i dont think theres a problem with it. i mean there is gangs and violence everywhere you just cant forget about that. so you have to cope with that and move on to what you have to do cause if you focus on what your there for and nothin else you will graduate with knowing that you can make it even if there are distractions.

Ive been at Gary also and very proud to say that I made it. I know, I know corny but true. Yes, there are gangs and yes there is lots of violence but it resembles alot of real life activity. We all know that gangs exist and violence is everywhere but you have to be stronger than that and not let it consume you. If anything Gary toughened me up a bit, but it is unfortunate to say that the education part of it did me no good. So, Iam going to an accredited community college determined to succeed and make my life different. Don't give up. Do what you need to get your certificate and continue. The certificate will help you get a job that hopefully will help you get by while you hopefully decide to go to an accredited college and secure your future. It's all up to you!!

I live on Gary. It is a scary place to walk around at because you never know if you are going to be the next one to get jumped or beat. There is at least one fight a day there. Some of the fights are over something as little as a cigarrette. There are gangs there. For instance, Bloods, Crips, The Familia, and the Mexican Maffia. Who wants to go to a place where there is violence everywhere. Just this past Thursday, Sept 6, 2007, there was a tour and there was police everywhere because of fighting on our campus. That is bad on us. There are people who are there to get an education and have a hard time doing so. There is substance abuse and alcohol as well. Gary, is it safe or not? You tell me....
