I love going to the Kemah Boardwalk, but I don't always want fried shrimp and stuffed flounder, so Babin's comes in very handy. You can get a great thick and juicy steak and hot baked potato, plus nice crispy fries -- all served up in a warm and cozy steakhouse environment. Nice break from the seafood places nearby.

A bit hidden behind an amusement area, Babins sits more or less in the spot once home to RRotten RRed's Castaways, blown off the map by Hurricane Beaula in 1967, and next to the famed Jimmie Walker's Edgewater. Parking is a zoo now.
Unlike some others who took large parties to Babins, we found a booth in the bar waiting area nearly large enough for our party of eleven, and didn't have an uncomfortable delay before getting seated at a nice large bay window in the dining.
Though they were as busy as it gets (eight o'clock on a Saturday night -- the helpful barmaid told me 6 or 10 are the best times to come), service was great from start to finish. So was the food, from crab spinach dip to the Shrimp Lafayette to the stuffed and fried, crab and pastas. Dirty rice was a nice change of pace from the usual side.
I took another reviewer's advice on the bloody Mary (make mine Maria), and wasn't disappointed. The waiter was a kidder, and fun; he was like a "part" of our group. He only screwed up one item on a large order, which shouldn't surprise, and he fixed it soon enough. Desserts were also good, from the bread pudding to the key lime, though I've had better cheesecake. You can avoid the Greek salad dressing too, unless you're ready for a departure from the norm. Babins is not pricy for what you get. We'll probably be back.

May 08, Mother's day dinner, it was pouring down rain and the restaurant was not busy.
It took approximately, 15-20 minutes before our server greeted us. We were sat next to a dirty tray of food. 45 minutes later, the manager and several waiters passed by our table and no one attempted to pick up the tray. After realizing no one was going to do anything with this eye-sore, I asked someone to please remove the tray. Once our server came to greet us, he did not apologize for his delay. The remaining dinning experience was unpleasant because our drinks were always empty, no table maintanance.
As we were leaving another family was complaining of the same treatment to management, and they were served by a different waiter.

Its a shame that a good restaurant could be fantastic if they could get their management and servers to do their jobs.

Pros: good food, nice atmosphere, reasonable pricing

Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE, NO cusomer- service

Probably the overall best dining experience @ the Kemah Boardwalk. The lunch menu is certainly the best bargain on the Boardwalk. The Soup and Salad
lunch special gives you a choice of 3 different salads and four delicious soups (try them all). The tab including a generous gratuity is $10. For an evening meal I highly recommend the Blackend Wild Atchfalaya catfish. No mushy farm raised here!
