The French doors illuminate what would be a dark, oblong bar. We've watched games at the bar there too. The margs are pretty potent, and they play club/dance music in the evenings. The patio is always packed on the weekends.\r

Bizarrely enough, when my first visit to Cyclone??s was when I was living in New York City. Deprived of Mexican restaurants, the concept of an overpriced see-and-be-seen margarita bar that happened to serve food sat just fine with me. Only after living in Houston for a couple of years and tasting the cheap, delicious fare available at the superfluous Mexican restaurants that dot the City do I realize just how much I over-paid at Cyclone??s.

In the height of midtown??s hippness, a weekend evening at Cyclone??s felt like more of lounge than a Mexican restaurant. Freshly out of work or just about to hit the club patrons packed into the bar for $15 margaritas the size of a basketball while crowds waited about the sidewalks for a table. Audaciously loud, overpriced and refusing to take reservations somehow made the place particularly popular for large groups. Presents and balloons filled any empty floor space. It was baffling. As a result, I have been dragged back to Cyclone??s numerous times for various events.

It is hard to complain about eating at Cyclone??s. Nothing is bad. Everything is simply mediocre ?? the service and the ambiance as much as the enchiladas. If you find yourself forced to eat there I suggest splurging on the massive margarita while you wait in order to make the entire experience palatable.

I like the restaurant and the margaritas are great but this location has slow service. i've tried on a friday night, week day for lunch and week night - same slow service - water glasses unfilled takes forever for check. Go for a drink or to find yourself a date but dine at the Shepherd location.

Fantastic local Houston restaurant. Outstanding gourmet Tex-Mex food. Try the chicken, cheese and spicy red enchiladas. They are out of this world!! Great for date night or time with family and friends.

I have visited Cyclone on numerous occasions and the service was fair. Last weekend me and several of my girlfriends ATTEMPTED to get together to have a few drinks. We arrived there at 830 and due to the large party the wait was supposedly 1hr and 15 min. We ended up waiting 2hrs before we were actually seated. Once we were seated there was not enough room for my party. We ordered our drinks but never received them. They sat us way in the back of the restuarant after being told that we will be seated at another table. Anyways, once we spoke to the Hostess anout the seating arrangements she refused to add chairs to the table. So we asked to speak with the Manager. The Hostess was RUDE as well as the Manager. I politely advidsed the Manager(Barbara) that there must have been a misunderstanding. So we continued to go back and forth sharing words. Which first of all, was not showing customer service for her to argue with me in a place of business. I ended the conversation and told her Thats Ok maam, I will handle it. I guess that made her even more upset. She tapped me on my shoulder and said she refused to service me.My hold party was apauled and didnt know what was the issue. She said she willhave me escorted by the police. To stop the confusion we decided to leave and take our money elsewhere. As we were leaving the Manager brought an Tab out and said that we owed $82.00 dollars for drinks that we never received..So we spoke to the officer and advised him that we never received anything. So she supposedly apologized..which we never received...WEll to make a long story short, it was already 11pm so we headed across the street to Buffalo Wild Wings where the service was excellent...lol....A night well wasted... I will never visit Cyclone Anaya's in Midtown again. NEVER

Pros: Great Margaritas

Cons: Management is Rude as Ever!!!

.

There are a lot of good restaurants in this area, this just isn't one of them. Had really high expectations, but was seriously let down. The staff constantly pesters you and not in a good way. Dropped $70 on an hour in drinks on drinks for 2 and waiter and manager still acted annoyed that we didn't order more/faster. They just want to push you out to get more people in. Not an enjoyable experience at all.

I work in the southeast section of downtown (Allen Center / Cullen Center area), so Cyclone's is only a 4- or 5-block walk. When the weather's nice, like today, it's my first choice for lunch. I eat here probably 2 or 3 times a week, and I don't come just for the patio. The food is great, especially to Pollo (chicken) dishes. Note: the cream sauce on the enchiladas is a bit heavier than other places, but it's very tasty. I just mention that to set your expectation. But this place isn't cheap -- averages $15 or $16 after tip for lunch plates (sans alcohol) -- so I wouldn't give this place the priority I do if the food weren't all that. The food *is* all that, and the perks are the patio, atmosphere, and people scenery. I see lots of other regulars here, and the place is always packed, so don't give too much weight to the negative reviews here. This is a great place for a business or social lunch. Another plus is that you may see other Midtown places on the same block that you'd like to try!

We have been to this joint a few times. I am not exactly sure what the big deal is. If you are here to enjoy the ambience, be cool, and people-watch, then yes, it is probably for you. The drinks are strong and the atmosphere is nice and trendy, but the food is average at best (note my star rating). Therefore, my point is: the margaritas are very strong which makes the food irrelevant.

My friends broughht me here last night for my birthday and I was totally satisfied with the service and the food we ordered. We had the ceviche, which was great because it had the lemon juicevinaigrette, but no tomato juice which in my opinion kills the taste of the fish; the crab nachos were sooo unique-I never would have combined the fresh crabmeat with the black refried beans and deliciously melted white cheese! We also had fajita meat and chicken quesadillas...

I also had the pleasure of sampling their tres leches cake, which usually consists several types of milk consistancies poured into a white cake with a refined sugar and whipped cream icing-very rich! Cyclone Anaya's was really good because it also had cinnamon sprinkled over it.

The bar was congested, but it was Friday night and should be expected. There was two bartenders, so maybe adding another bartender would work a little better.
We were seated within their speculated timeframe(30 min), using our cell phones, which is different, yes, but prudent....Do you want to hold your drink, your handbag annnd a blinking device?
Pricewise, I couldnt tell you because I was not allowed to look at the menu, but the girls all said we did goood for the appetizers and dessert that was ordered, and believe me we are not of the Hilton clan that would waste money, but have enjoyed inexpensive as well as expensive establishments, and can appreciate deatil to service and quality of food compared to price....try spending about $400 in sushi and drinks when Mantra was a restaurant for a group of six(which was delicious then, too.)

Overall, I enjoyed this place and will be coming back for brunch!
The staff was very friendly and attentive, my personal opinion is that if you are complaining in a busy atmosphere, may be you have the attitude and this place may not be the best place suited for you.

Okay, so I read all the bad reviews on here and was shocked because my experiences have always been outstanding as far as the food there. My husband and I live in midtown and have been going to Cyclone Anaya's for about the last year, at least once a month. In the past, we had decent service (at best) but the place is so busy and our waiters were always hispanic so we just chalked it up to a slight language barrier...until we got Kim. She is funny and is always so friendly that we used to come back for the food, but now we come back for the food AND Kim. If you think the food is bad, you are crazy, so just go somewhere else so my hubby & I don't have to wait so long for a table. Are you there for food or service?

Cons: the long wait, it's HOT in the place, a little pricey for mexican food

Location is great, but DO NOT GO on a Thurs-Sat night unless you want to wait for 1-2 hours! NOT WORTH IT AT ALL! Ok food and drinks, that's all. I have lived in Midtown for 3 years, and the area is getting too crowded. I guess people drive in from the hood or wherever they live so the can go to a "cool" restaurant in Midtown. Well let me tell you people, that it isn't "cool" once everyone knows about it! So do all the residents of midtown a favor and stay in your own neighborhood! This restaurant is just AVERAGE, with poor service, OVERCROWDING, and the diverse non-resident crowd is super OBNOXIOUS!!!!!

Went for happy hour, but all they had was $1 off longnecks. Thought this was a great after work spot? They tried to sit us next to some guy working on a ladder on the ceiling. Real safe. Sat down at 5:20, didn't get to order until 5:55. Food was OK, and drinks were great, but they will never refill your water. The waitress was non-existent.

I guess I'll add a review about my favorite restaurant. I absolutely love working there & eating there. Ask for me and I'll suggest some things to order. Our food really is amazing. I get to see it made first-hand and we use fresh ingredients. Try one of our desserts that are all homemade at the restaurant. I also recommend trying our brunch (Sat. & Sun 9:30AM-3PM) with bottomless mimosas until 3PM. Probably my top 10 "greatest hits" on the menu are the Ceviche, Carolina's Mixed Grill, Fish Tacos, Beef Fajitas, Tres Leches (...that cake is the reason I work at Cyclone!) the Alambre al Carbon, Crabmeat Nachos, Pollo Jalisco, Carne Asada Tampiquena & the Chicken Enchiladas. The Ceviche won "Best Ceviche" in 2006 in the Houston Press!
Cyclone Anaya's is a good place to start before you go out in midtown. There are tons of bars around the area within walking distance. Ask me and I'll tell you where to go and how to get there. Oh, and we do catering to your home or office for events. Ask me about that too.

Cyclone Anaya's is a great place to eat Tex-Mex food. Tex-Mex is my favorite and this place is delicious! The margaritas were good, although a little pricey. We saw a NFL football player one time we went and Bobby Jackson from the Houston Rockets the next time. That was pretty cool. The food is moderately priced but definitely worth it. The place is usually full so try to call ahead. The ambience is modern and flashy. The bar is also huge and well stocked if you are looking for good drinks.

From my experience, they need more bartenders and help behind the bar! The wait staff, especially Kim (I ask for her whenever I go because she is the best) is great. It's usually the bar they are waiting on! The food is awesome. The drinks are good once you get them. Ask for a Don Eduardo Silver chilled or margarita! Don Eduardo is the best tequila, it is triple distilled, it's much better than the typical silver everyone drinks which is only distilled twice! We won?t name names here! =)

Don't miss the Tres Leches cake at this place!! It is the best around!
The last two times I was at Cyclone Anayas I had the same server and last time I asked for her name because she is so good and I always like to request someone if I get good service. Kim is her name and she is wonderful! Very efficient, pays attention to details and friendly!
I have never been disappointed at this restaurant...the food is excellent and always served at the right temperature and the presentation is also great!

My party of four waited over an hour for a table. Drinks were served fifteen minutes later, then the waitress ingnored our table for the next thrity-five. Had to get up and find the waitress for refils and food order. Food was not of the quality to negate the poor ser vice. Had to again find the waitress to close out our tab. To complete the Cyclone Anaya experience, the waitress, whom did not understand English, seriously overcharged my credit card. After the assistance of another waiter, who also did not understand English, I ended up with multiple charges on the card. I called the next day to get the charges cleared, but was told the one in-house couldn't do it, please call back. Poor experience, NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY.

Pros: pretty people

Cons: POOR SERVICE

Don't kid yourselves...you're not going to this place for the food or drinks. The frozen ritas they had were really weak and by the time it got to us (about 15 minutes after we ordered), half of it was already melted away. I can also say this with a straight face that the chips and salsa at Taco Cabana is of a much higher quality than this place. The salsa smelled and tasted too sour like it was sitting for a month. For some reason the floors were all wet too. Maybe the AC was leaking who knows. The TV's also were not set up for HD. Come on guys, this is 2008. Fix the TV's.

So if this place is average, it should be empty right? No, the place is packed on weekends! Their location is straight in the heart of mid-town where the yuppies have moved to and this is where they come to look and be seen. The place is full of $30k a year millionaires who have spent their life savings living in one of the condos or apartments nearby to be part of this lifestyle. For the rest of you, you have to fight parking and the crowd and it's just not worth it. There are plenty of places to eat around town. But if you want to tell people you went to "midtown" and went to a place just because it was busy then by all means, knock yourself out.

The food at this place is great! BUT the service is pretty bad. hence, the hostess up top who wrote a review defending the ineptness. Our wait time was long but hey that's to be expected, not a problem. Our waiter was nice enough but when our bill came he informed us that he could not split the check. There were at least 10 of us and we all had cards, so you see our problem. Then he said he could split it up himself and whoa that was completely scary in its self. Needless to say our bill was all kinds of messed up. i ended up paying about $60 more than my share cause of his lack of skills and everyone had already left. hello i too work in a restaurant and know you can split the bill. If i was that manger that guy would have been fired. i've talked to a few people who also had the same problem.

The food and top shelf margaritas here are Delish! But, the service is slow and unattentive. The food for the price isn't bad. It's really crowded on the weekends and parking's a pain sometimes. So, if you're up for really good tex mex and some margaritas or a beer (lots of Mexican beers) and you don't care about quick service or water refills. Go here!

I went to Cyclone Anaya's on a Thursday night with some friends. All I have to say is that the Tortilla Soup is DELICIOUS and the Smoked Salmon Salad is TO DIE FOR!!!!!!! It was a very good experiecne. Service was good...the place was packed so it was understandable to wait a while but our waiter was very friendly. I just can't get over the Smoked Salmon Salad - definitely will go back. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!

I went here about 2 weeks ago, because i live around the corner, and they have good food. I sat at the table for close to twenty minutes before I had to walk out because no one waited on us.

They do have good food, so I came back tonight, AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. Sat at the table for 10 minutes without the waiter coming over, or another waiter asking, "hey, have you guys been helped yet?" Which is the amazing part to me - that not one person cared to help. That and there were about 15 people eating here, and about 8 waiters, 5 busboys, 2 bar tenders, and 3 hostesses all standing around talking to one another.

This time I complained to the manager and he offered to take care of it, but at this point I didn't even feel like eating here. Will not be giving them a third chance, and cannot recommend to anyone else.

I visit very often this restaurant, but in my last visit 3 people, including myself got really sick, I called next day the Manager in that location expecting at least an explanation of the food or a simple refund for my bill, I was not looking to take advantage, but instead a resolution, he mentioned that he can not do anything for us, I will never come back with that kind of service!!

Having a fool-proof Tex-Mex eatery is a must. Cyclone's is definitely one of (if not THE) best Tex-Mex in Houston. And that says a lot, being a born-and-raised Houstonian with countless Tex-Mex meals in my past. Whether you are going here for an amazing margarita happy hour or your staple fajitas, you will not be disappointed. My personal favorite is the ceviche - hands down THE best ceviche I've ever had. And if you have never had it - this is the place to try it...although that's hard with the extensive menu of delectable goodness. The beef fajitas are a no-brainer. The black refried beans here are my husband's favorite. The queso is perfection. Quesadillas and nachos are great for sharing or for enjoying alone. And did I mention that all of the portions are HUGE. A half-order of nachos or quesadillas will have you leftovers easily. On a lighter note, the salads are also quite indulgent...I recommend the Chopped Chicken Salad with a balsamic ranch - how can you beat that? As you can see - there are so many things to keep your tastebuds smiling! Highly recommended! Bring your friends! :)

Pros: Solid Tex-Mex, Tasty Margaritas, Best Ceviche

Cons: No Reservations, Long waits (but okay when you have a rita in tow)

Great ambience, good food, and friendly service. We sat on the patio, chatted with a friendly guy at the bar and dined on stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon, and a great margarita. Visiting Houston from another city and treated rudely at Napoli's on Texas Ave, Cyclone Anaya's was a blast back into the 2000's. I miss the stuffed shrimp already!

Not impressed. My boyfriend and I ordered a half-order of chicken quesadillas and a burrito, to go. The hostess said over the phone that they did not have chicken burritos, only bean and cheese burritos. I said, "cant you just add chicken and charge extra?" she had to go ask. fine, I've been an inexperienced hostess before. Yes, of course they can. So, we go to pick up the food, and hand the credit card to the hostess. She didn't know what to do with it. Strike 2. But still, no big deal. Then we get home, open the food - and I see what $17 has bought us - one measly burrito - very small - with no beans or rice and three pieces of quesadilla, the fourth one being only tortilla. That's it! - not a meal, obviously. So, we had our "snack" and then had to supplement with whatever we could find in the kitchen so we didn't go hungry. Pretty disappointing. Another note: the half order of quesadillas is $9 and a full is $12 - totally not worth the money. I have also been there before with friends and have not once had good service. I would not recommend this restaurant. If you want to go somewhere good for Mexican food - try Chuy's or El Tiempo.

There is a really decent amount of people watching here and the margaritas are not bad. But the food is so chancey, the restaurant lacks consistency. Last time and the last time I ate and will eat here, my plate was brought out with all of the grilled meat cold......not lukewarm but cold. This is beyond inexcusable. I won't send my food back after seeing the movie "Waiting" so I went and got something to eat after barhopping. Really disappointed with this place and do not recommend anyone go for anything besides drinks. There are at least 500 better Mexican restaurants in Houston. This is about par with a mexican restaurant in NYC, sick.

The service is attentive and prompt. On weekends it gets packed so plan on waiting for a table.
They do use a Guest Paging system , you know those coasters with LED's that blink when your table is ready and that helps.

I have dined in many different restaurants in Houston, and I must say that Cyclone Anaya's has both great food and service. Just this past Saturday evening, I decided to stop in for a drink and have dinner with a friend. The bartender with spikey hair gave us the best service. He was very friendly and professional, as were the other bartenders, but he gave us excellent service even though it was very busy. Since I normally do not dine on the main floor, I can not rate the servers, but I recommend anyone wanting superb service to dine at the bar or just stop in for a drink. I will definately be going back very soon. I recommend the chicken quesadillas.

Cyclone's is one of the hot spots right now in Midtown. So expect a big crowd on Thursday - Saturday. The biggie margaritas are just the trick after a long work day, note happy hour is over at 6 p.m. at Cyclones. There salads and tortilla soup are very very good and hard to beat. There meats (ie fajitas, ribs, chicken, etc) are amazing. If you are in the mood for good upscale mex and groovy ambience, then Cyclone's midtown is the place for you.

Still haven't figured out why anyone would want to eat at this wannabe...

- The margaritas were huge & costly, but made with bottom-shelf tequila
- The "hostesses" are completely incompetent and kept saying "10 more mins" over and over, after we waited for an hour... total wait for table time 1:40
- Once seated, it was another 15 mins before a "waiter" came over, and only after we asked the bus person to see if there was a waiter who would come over
- The chicken enchiladas had chicken bones pieces in them, which cut my mouth... with my gums bleeding all over a napkin, the manager said "sorry about that", but would not comp the entree.... what is up with that?!?
- Food was very over priced and made with low-quality ingredients... the cheese also was gross..........

No way going back to this loser....

a lively social scene on gray street! extremely popular place to have a drink and lounge on the patio that spills out into the sidewalk. a huge crowd dines here, so there may be a lengthy wait, thus, everybody hangs out at the bar whilst waiting. they have HUGE margaritas! the food is quite good: huge portions and a succulent taste that satisfies the palette. this may not be the most romantic spot to take a date, considering that it's crowded and loud. but definitely a great place to grab dinner~!*

My favorite Mexican / Tex-mex in Houston - I love this place! I've been going to the Durham location for awhile and was so happy when they opened the new Midtown location. Food is fabulous - fajitas are to die for, as is the pollo jalisco, and anything that contains their fajita meat - and the margaritas are yummy too. Upscale decor makes for great atmosphere.

Hip crowd! Great for people watching! So if all you are interested in is seeing and being seen, then you should enjoy this place. Judging from less busy nights, the food is good but not the best Tex Mex in Houston. The large frozen margaritas are deadly! If you have two, you should be arrested for public intoxication upon walking out the door. For the next few days, you will wish you had died on the spot. Whatever booze they put in the things is a long way from the top shelf and leaves a nasty hangover.

If you are actually interested in eating and a modicum of service, this is not the place for you on a weekend! The hostess staff are hopelessly inept in estimating waiting times and they place those nice little games of giving certain people preferential treatment. They will go to great lengths to gather tables and chairs for a large group that just walked in, when scores of groups of 2-4 have been waiting for an hour or more. For example, our party of four was told the wait would be about 30 minutes when we arrived. We decided to wait. After 45 minutes, we checked on our progress and and were told about 15-20 more minutes. After a 1 1/2 hour wait, we were no closer to being seated and the manager has just taken a table that was seating four and crowded 9 chairs around it to accommodate new arrivals who were far down the waiting list. He made no apologies for their lack of candor about seating times and informed us he knew all about running a restaurant. Well, Bozo, here is a group that frequents the mid-town area who will not darken your doors again. Let's see how long the "hip" buzz lasts.

FYI -- This is my first review and hopefully my last. Let me tell you the story.

I was out on the town and ate at this restaurant (with my lady friend). The food was alright. Traditional Tex-Mex. Nothing special. The kicker is I paid to park my car at the restaurant. I took my lady friend over to the front porch to spend the rest of our evening. When I left the front porch at 12.30pm (early by most standards) my car was in no sight. It had been parked and the workers/car parkers had left for the night. I spoke with several people at the restaurant before I finally go the manager. He said "He doesn't have any keys and it isn't his fault." This may be true, but you should advertise to your customers that parkings service isn't available after a designated time. I had no way to get home and had to call my brother to get my spare keys. Nice first date huh???? &*^$ This place!!! They don't care about their customers, so don't patronage this place! Go to El Tiempo this is the best place in town! Customer service is at its tops. This was an embarrassing night that the restaurant felt had no connection too.
