Horrible! I made a mistake!

by john a.

Do not send your child to thins school my son came from Cy-Fair district and I brought him to Harmony it it was BAD. I mean teachers were always absent and you could hardly understand them. My son always has complaints thats why im taking him back to Cy-Falls. And the kids NEVER get fun. I am sending him back to Cy-Fair where he got better grades. The Teachers were really mean. But this was the Worst experience of my son's life! I feel so bad for doing this. Also they ruined my son's GPA!

Not a Good School--Would not recommend

by Moncy H.

If you want your child to get a sub-par education then send them to HArmony. My daughter has been at Harmony since the beginning of January 09 and it compares nothing to the Public School in the Cy-Fair district that she came from. My daughter is an Honor Roll student, gifted and talented 6th grader. She did outstanding in Cy-Fair, but I was persuaded to transfer her, thinking she would be challenged even more. She rarely received homework, or shall I say she did it in class(not challenging), if you have an emergency, dont bother calling the school because you rarely can get through and they dont return calls, the teachers are disconnected from parents, the Dean of Academics, Principal and teachers are never available and it doesn't seem to bother them. I wouldnt feed their lunch to pigs. The library has a small # of books.Teachers are absent alot. There is no structure at all. I am a very involved parent and my child's education means alot to me, so this is first hand information. She will be returning to Cy-Fair in the fall.

Great School!

by T R.

This is a great school and I am very happy and proud that my daughter goes to Harmony School of Excellence. Teachers and administrators are very helpful. There are lots of activities for kids. Math and science education is much better than other schools. There is a gifted/talented program for talented kids. Proud parent of a 2nd grader

HSE has raised the bar back up on education!

by z s.

HSE has raised the bar back up on education. All students are receiving the highest quality of teaching in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. They do not focus solely on the students struggling to pass the TAKS, or the GT students, as it seemed to be the case in the other local public schools. ALL students matter at HSE. I am confounded by the emphasis with the lunch service. My son rarely, if ever, ate his lunch at his previous school. It was nasty, so he took his lunch. It is just the opposite at HSE. He actually insists on purchasing his lunch, but most importantly, he actually eats it. As required by the state, of course it is a balanced meal. I volunteer in the school regularly, and most of the time, I eat the same lunch the students are being served. I like it.

High Parent Involvement

by s a.

As a parent, I am very happy with Harmony. Although HSE is lacking in extracurricular activities, it is one of the best schools I`ve ever known. It has one of the best learning environments ever. All of the students are goal-oriented and have plans to go places in life. The academics are wonderful, and parent involvement is high.

Wonderful Experience

by A A.

Harmony has been a wonderful experience for my children and the family overall. The teachers are amazing and the parent involvement is most impressive. Mrs. Balderas at the front desk is a joy. I really appreciate how responsive she is to my inquiries and my kids love her.

Safe School

by W S.

We could not have chosen a better school. This year our daughter started HSE and we have seen the caring, nurturing and dedicated teachers work hard with the students. The environment the school provides is a safe and healthy for our child s development. The school provides an environment that fosters academic excellence and moral values. We definetely rate HSE as an excellent school.

A+

by H S.

The only rating you can give this school is A+. You will not find a more dedicated group of teachers, backed by a top administration group! The teachers are top quality and care about their students. They offer all types of extracurricular activities, and parents are very involved as well. Don't take a chance on another school. They are rated an exemplary school, and it shows.

Do not send your child here

by John S.

I agree with the previous review.

Do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, associate yourself in any way with this school, unless you are Turkish and cannot find a job elsewhere - the school is run by a group of Turkish people who will hire any Turkish person to be a teacher, even if they have just immigrated a foreign country (forget about teacher's certificates). Most of the math and science classes are taught by Turkish teachers, whereas most the non-Turkish teachers who are hired to teach language and social studies do not stay long. Even though the school is only in its third year, the set of non-Turkish teachers changes drastically every year. Could it be more obvious that something fishy is going on?

(Please do not think that I am part of some anti-Turkish organization or other. I am merely telling the truth. In fact, I feel that Turkish people are on the whole a very pleasant people who can connect well with many cultures, Turkey being situated almost in the middle if Europe, Asia, and Africa.)

From the outside, it will seem as if the school is extremely prestigious, winning numerous medals in all sorts of competitions and high TAKS passing rates. They will take you on a tour of the school, and somehow manage to make you forget about the lackluster appearance and think that it is the best school in the world. I was genuinely deceived, and I warn you not to be.

As the previous review said, the reason for the accolades and recognition is due to their "lottery" system of selecting students. Why do you think they ask for students' report cards when applying to the school? It is so unfortunate that so many bright students are there. Also, there is a mandatory science fair project for students in fourth grade or above. Only a select few of the administrators and teachers care about it at all, while nearly all students find it a horrible burden. Anyways, my point is, they then send their students to compete in a science fair competition which is run by the Cosmos Foundation. What could be so bad about that? Guess what? The Cosmos Foundation founded the school as well! There you have it, the perfect way to add more awards to the list on those pamphlets and brochures to make the school seem amazing.

The teaching is grossly lacking. Many, if not most, of the teachers do not possess certificates. I used to believe that teacher's certificates did not make much of a difference. I now see that they make a huge difference. You may think that a lack of skill can be made up for with dedication. However, few teachers care anything about the students. The English classes especially are startlingly behind, as I found when I looked at my daughter's homework.

In addition, there is a huge lack of organization in the school. I don't even know where to begin. My daughter came home on the first day of the second semester telling me that she had waited for hours in the morning in the cafeteria doing nothing because an administrator told them that were getting a new schedule. In the end, a teacher came informing them that their schedule was to be the same. I have heard of a student whose science fair project was not approved by the science teacher. Upon inquiring as to why this was the case, the student was told to see an administrator. The administrator then told the student to see another teacher. This third teacher, when asked by the student the reason for his project's rejection, directed the student again back to the first teacher.

As direct evidence of the school's status, I urge you to visit the school's Wikipedia article and view the article's history. As you will see, the Wikipedia article on this school is regularly bombarded with the complaints of desperate students, which are much more accurate and informative than the "non-vandalous" versions of the article.

I spent my time to write this to prevent other people from falling into this terrible trap. The story is convincing when you talk the people who manage incoming students, but I warn you again, do not be deceived.
