Horrible experience! Dr. Gibbs gave me a cap on one of my teeth and shortly after it became infected. My jaw was swollen the entire weekend and it was very painful!! When I tried to call, they were closed and of course, had no emergency

Stay away from them! Their billing dept is incompetent! I had a crown put in November 2008 -- they never filed the claim with my insurance...then sent me a bill one YEAR later! The bill did not even have date of service or procedure ID on

I have been a patient here for over a year. I just brought my youngest daughter for her first dental appointment. She wasn't the most cooperative, but the staff was so patient with her and showed her all the things she was curious about.

I was with McKinneydentist on Virginia Pkwy when Dr Abernathy was there and changed over to Tranquility Dental in the beginning of 2007. I've been there ever since. Dr. Jenel Gibbs was my dentist at first and i swithched over to Dr. Matt when he came in (because the days he worked were better for me).

I've never met a more friendly staff, more knowledgeable dentists, or more patient group since I switched to them. Seems that the complaints on the reviews are based on billing (more or less). Just as a contrasting voice, they filed my insurance 6 times because my insurance carrier (Blue Cross Blue Shield) kept kicking it back. I did not receive my first bill for 9 months because of the fiasco the insurance company caused. They had my info in wrong, when I received my EOB's I called my ins. and they argued that I wasn't covered, I got a supervisor involved and she had no idea what was going on. When they finally got me in their system they claimed I had a lower type of insurance then I had and they kept "downgrading" all my services instead of paying what they owed. They continued to give the office and myself the run around.

The office (along with my benefits manager) finally got it resolved, but I can tell you - most offices file your insurance once (if at all). It gets rejected?... you're on your own. They will send you a bill for the entire amount. I appreciated that Tranquility Dental did not hang me out to dry. And, as far as overcharging; if they are in network with your insurance company (like they are with mine) they have to follow the pricing the insurance company sets. That's what I like about going to someone in my insurance network.

Hope this helps.

Pros: Consistency, Location, Knowledge, Insurance, Considerate

This is by far the worst dentist office you could ever choose. They lie to you on your first visit then they perform unneeded procedures to inflate the bill. They take payment from you BEFORE any work is performed, then they add on additional charges and send more bills. When you ask them for some explanation to these charges none is provided. They have no idea how to bill the insurance company correctly, so you will not even get reimbursed from your flex plan for the overbilling. Others who have given favorable reviews on this site must not have been billed yet.

Please do yourself a favor stay away from these crooks your mouth and your pocketbook will thank you.

Just had my first visit to Tranquility and in a word, "Wonderful!" I've been going to another McKinneyDentist (hint hint) for several years and discussed with my wife going to another dentist because we felt like we were being charged more than we should for just so so work. I liked the "look" of Tranquility and decided to give it a shot. I saw some of the great reviews and some of the others, but 3 of my neighbors are patients and they love both Dr. Jenel and Dr. Matt so I gave it a shot.

Building is nice, front staff is nice, friendly and knowledgeable.

I wondered if they read online reviews about their place or not (just to see their facial experssions) and they said they did not. I told them there were some unflattering ones and the young lady in the front said essentially, "I'm sure I know exactly who those are from." She went on to let me know that insurance companies play games with patients not giving them all the information and play games with medical/dental offices not giving them all the information (which I know having gone to an out of network dentist for so long). I, personally, hate dealing with insurance companies.

Either way, went back for my cleaning and had my examination. I could NOT believe how much information I was given. Both the doctor and the hygienist took the time to explain to me how decayed teeth and gums affect the entire body. There is cancer i my family history and they explained how those things link to cancer, heart issues, diabetes and other things. Point is, I've never had a dentist give me that level of insight to my health.

Prices are less than they were at my last dental office. I booked the treatment I would never have booked at the last office (because I now know the seriousness of it - and the prices are better).

Just on that alone, I would recommend this office. Just my two cents, but hopefully it's helps give insight to my experiance.

I was referred to Tranquility Dental by a co-worker and have been so pleased with the entire office and dentists. Each staff member took the time to explain my dental conditions and insurance questions. I was given different treatment options...not just the most expensive ones like my previous dental office. I never felt rushed or that I was being diagnosed with unecessary treatment. I have referred several people to this office and everyone has had similar experiences.

My families issues is pretty much the same as netengineer's issue as described within his review. Basically we??ve constantly been paying random bills with no information such as date, patient, code, description, etc... and to top it off the bills were coming 6mo's past due by the time of first notice. However please understand, these bills were on top of the random charges we'd receive while at an appointment.

Here??s the overview of my experience:
We received a random bill with no information associated to it so I inquired what it was for. I left numerous (i.e. 5+) voice mails as well as personally talked to the admin at ex. 201 several times before writing an e-mail to the office manager. My request was for someone to explain where this charge was coming from and why. Since weeks and several unanswered voice mails went with no response, I submitted a complaint with the BBB. Oddly enough Tranquility sent me an itemized list of services while I submitted my complaint however, the list of itemized services looked like a 3rd grader kept the books and it did not tell me why I still had an outstanding bill. After a couple hours of thumbing thru my service records, I made additional calls to Tranquility asking for someone to help me understand the itemized list. The only thing I received was a call back (unfortunately to my voice mail) telling me there was an error and what I owed happened to be about 7 dollars cheaper than the bill they had sent me two days prior. Since this time I kept calling asking for someone to call back and help me understand why I still had the listed balance. {This brings me to now}

So finally I see there??s a response from Tranquility Dental regarding my complaint to the BBB. It was a bold face lie and responded they had no record of me calling as I said I did and that the itemized list was sent and my bill was still out standing. I responded appropriately to the BBB and immediately left messages with billing and the receptionist at Tranquility. I followed up once a couple hours later and finally got a call from the office manager. She tried to explain the charges and said it was out of curtsey to me that the charges were so low. When I questioned her explanation, she could not back up her statements, started getting rude and would not stop talking to listen. After she kept going on and on about she could add charges back and I will pay or it??s going to collections she hung up on me. It makes me wonder where customer service has gone? I did inform her the office staff was border line incompetent though;). I guess the truth hurt too much. The worse part, I happen to personally know 4 more families dealing with this very same issue at Tranquility Dental in McKinney.

Overview of my issue:
During the normal 6 month check up/cleanings that are 100% covered by insurance, Tranquility Dental throws additional services in without checking with the insurance company thus making you pay for them when the insurance company refuses due frequency of said service. In this case it was bitewings being taken twice in one year while at a normal cleaning appointment.

Worst dentist and admin staff in McKinney! I was referred by a close friend and coworker. You would think good experience based on this. NOPE, completely wrong! It has been 3 months of nightmare with Dr. Jenel and her staff. First, the admin staff cannot get organized to charge correctly to the patients. They refused to contact the insurance so I always had to call them to clearly define coverage. I had paid full amount for mine and my son's treatment of simple fillings and tooth pulled. They charged me full amount while they received checks from my insurance for the exact dental procedures. They charged me on my son's sealants while they said it was covered under my insurance 100%. My insurance rep was to go over each items in both claims. Validating each dental codes and informed me exactly what I should pay out of pocket. Dentist office never wanted to go over the dental codes. They always blamed my insurance was incompetent and at fault. They said dentist do not have relationship with insurance...its the patience who talks to insurance. So I created my spreadsheet of my own and faxed to them. They still did not go over it comparing dentist charges and insurance. Kathy, admin billing manager refused to go line by line, said she was done talking with me and hung up on me. I requested to speak with Dr Jenel directly. Dr Jenel calls to inform me that her staff missed lunch to cater to me and have gone above/beyond. She tried to make me feel guilty for what is required of them as a normal business. Dr Jenel talked down to me and refused any further service. I just wanted to finalize on extra charges that were demanded. She did not allow me to reply back on the phone and hung up on me. SO, I have been hung up twice w/o any responsible discussions and correctly going over the dental codes with that office. In the end, I have reported Dr Jenel and her office to the State Board of Dental Examiners and Bureau. They are truly unprofessional and scamming only for money. My coworker witnessed the monthly issues with them and in disgust have pulled his family from their office. So, just wanted to provide my experience to everybody. Take it for what it is but seriously beware! Kind regards.
