Gourmet Burger Grill in San Antonio was voted "Best New Restaurant Less than One Year Old," by the 2007 Express News Readers' Poll. Gourmet Burger Grill uses a new concept that offers Kobe beef, lamb, seafood and veggie options, accompanied by freshly baked rolls and a myriad of gourmet toppings. We focus on quality, value and selection. Certified Angus Beef burgers, chicken and turkey burgers, salads, soups, sides and specialty burgers made of lamb, Maryland-style crab cakes, Ahi tuna, Portobello mushrooms, Kobe beef and vegetarian patties are all made to order. Choose from a variety of freshly baked buns. Burger prices range from $6.95 to $12.95. Gourmet Burger Grill uses no trans-fats and all patties can be wrapped in lettuce for a low-carb alternative. Sauces, dressings are made from scratch. Visit our website for our menu. Take-out and catering are available.
I hadn't found a good place to eat a burger for a long time, and I highly recommend this place. The angus beef is one of the best/leanest meats. My best friend had heart surgery and her doctor told her if she wanted to eat a burger she needed to make sure it was an angus beef burger. Now days people are trying to stay healthy anyway they can, and having lean meats in a burger is an excellent choice well done GBG.

Had lunch there for the first time today but my wife has been bragging about it for the last few weeks. She loves the place. I ordered just a plain cheese burger and the wife had the Mole Burger which was the lunch special. Other than Burger King and Jim's, there are not a lot of charcoal broiled hamburger options. Gourment Burger Grill is the best.
The sourdough buns were a nice touch and I prefer their flat sliced fries over other fries.
The burger was not quite as good as Big's but a great burger. Certainly better than Red Robin or the other million fast food burgers.
The only part I found hard to swallow was the $8 price for the cheese burger. Everything else was great.
Pros: Great Fire Grilled Burger
Cons: Price

Discovered this place when they opened at the Legacy... great food, great service - but a bit of a drive... new location is in my part of town - it is now our every Sunday lunch place... amazing food, great staff... Mike does a great job in bringing amazing food to your plate... their specials are outstanding... soups are brilliant... it's where I like to eat !
Pros: Wonderful selection of burgers and condiments
Cons: Not a fan of crinkle cut fries

Te recomiendo estas hamburguesas, son muy ricas y con sabores que no encuentras en ningun lugar de San Antonio. A mi me gusta mucho la hamburguesa con Queso de Cabra. 100% recomendado.
Pros: Comida de primera, servicio atento y r?pido, men? original
Cons: Que no hay ningun GBG cerca por mi casa.

$29.50 for a soda, a burger, a small fry and a fish burger, not matter how "special" is pricey. What made this worse was the food preparation. The fries were great.. yukon gold krinkle cuts.. would eat those again. The bacon cheeseburger was over cooked and lacked flavor. The bacon was undercooked and chewy. The swiss cheese was good. we ordered the burger med rare and it was well done. Middle of the day.. only 3 other sets of customers already eating... so not busy.. food should have been perfect. The Ahi tuna burger was ordered med rare and came out medium well and dry. The flavored sauce (what was that) lacked flavor. I would not eat there again. Too many other places to try to worry about getting mediocre food as a high price.
Pros: variety
Cons: mostly lacked any real flavor

I really like the idea of upscaling something as common as burgers as a serious foodie myself. Howerver, GBG doesn't execute the idea very well. The beef patties are clearly not made fresh. I'd have settled for the day before, but I'm confident they show up pre-formed and frozen in boxes. I'm not claiming they buy from the same place as a fast food place, but for the price, I wouldn't expect forming patties from fresh beef to be too much trouble. The lamb and ahi options are better, but again seem unlikely to be prepared fresh and on site. The sides are the highlight of the joint. Sweet potato fries among the best of them. It's still worth trying the place at least once or twice, but for the cost I'd much rather go to Red Robin or Culver's.
Pros: Interesting Options/Idea
Cons: Pricy for pre-fabbed food

Everyone loves a great burger, and this place has something to please every palate. My husband, a major-league carnivore, adores the lamb burger with feta and the certified angus beef dressed almost any way. I'm all about the veggie and seafood options, such as the ahi tuna and portobello burgers. Sides are great, especially the sweet potato and crinkle-cut yukons, but if you want a real 'gourmet' treat try the chef's daily soup specials. The Cream of Mushroom is outstanding, as are the Shrimp Bisque and the New England Clam Chowder. Each is made from scratch, and the taste is evidence of Mike Davis's culinary talent. You'll also find excellent service at GBG and prices that are on target for the quality of food. It's no wonder GBG has been touted by the SA Express-News, SA Magazine, etc. for great food: They deserve it!
Pros: Great food, outstanding service. GBG nails it!
Cons: Traffic and location may make it a little hard to find, but the end result is worth it!

The use of sourdough bread on a hamburger is an excellent way to make what might be an ordinary burger, well, exceptional! The owner took our order and in a few minutes we were enjoying what I think is the best hamburger I've ever had. The french fries and soup were better than expected as well. I will definitely be back!
Pros: The food! Outdoor covered seating.

We read about GBG in the SA Times and decided to try it out. The inside is warm and even though the chairs looked uncomfortable, they were not at all. The person at the counter asked us if this were the first time we had been there, and guided us through the menu and explained all their different combinations. We ordered one regular cheeseburger and one with Boursin cheese sauce and bean sprouts and both cooked medium. Once our numbers were called, we picked up our order and made our way to the table. WOW, first off, let?s start off with the buns, out standing!!! They should never change that recipe. The hamburgers were delicious and weren?t the normal broken up meat patties you get almost everywhere else. The Boursin cheese sauce was outstanding. And the food was HOT. The counter person stopped by and asked we if wanted refills on our drinks and wanted our opinion of the food. I have to tell you, I was so surprised at the customer service I received in this place. We also asked if they baked the buns themselves, which they replied no, but did tell us where they were made. We will be sure to try that restaurant next. There are only 2 additional comments I will make in general, We have lived in several big cities coast to coast and San Antonio restaurants? generally don?t offer good customer service even if you are left paying for it and the quality of food is generally fair. So, when we find an outstanding place, we need to pass the word. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience, we'll be back!.
Pros: Condiments are on the table already, service is outstanding
Cons: Its could be hard to find, its all the way in the back

We went on a friday night. The resturant is kinda cool. You go up and place your order then your number is called. The burger I had was super dry! It even had this cheese sauce type thing with bean sprouts..I know... a little strange. But the cheese thing was good but the meat was overcooked or had been sitting out for a while. Its also pretty pricey.
If you want a hamburger..go to Longhorn Cafe. It is the one that I measure all the others against. Its pretty though to beat. Chester's and Red Robin (yes a chain) is very close.

My sister and I ventured to Gourmet Burger Grill (she's a burger connaisseur). She ordered the plain, and while I was going to order a salad, I figured "when in Rome". I ordered just a basic burger too, but it was far from ordinary. It was one of the best burgers and best bites I've had in a long time! If you have not tried these burgers, you have to go! Next time, I'm trying one of their specialty burgers.
Pros: Best Burger by a landslide
Cons: none
