Austin Bikes is my #2 bike shop.....but not by much after my most favorite shop. If I ever can't get what I need from my #1 shop, Austin Bikes always comes through for me. They are such friendly people and although I'm not in there that often (almost never), they still remember me.

I've worked on my bike for years. Not because I like to but out of frustration for poor service from local shops. I've finally found my mechanics! NO SHOP in Austin has ever been able to tune my bike. They would do "the best they could", but my chain would slip off the front rings and "dance" around on the rear cassette. "Sam" (not a regular at Austin Bikes) expertly troubleshot my bike while I waited, since I drove all the way from NW Austin. He carefully listened to the symptoms I mentioned, and quickly resolved the problem, replacing the rear derailleur cable and making adjustments to it, and replacing the cassette. I got out of there for only $94 bucks total, and Sam stayed after closing to complete the job. I have over 10,000 miles on this bike and it has NEVER shifted better! No more randome gear changes!

Pros: The mechanic knew what he was doing, repaired while I waited, very fair price.

Cons: No parking at the "old" location.

Don't let this little shop fool you. This is definitely the best bike shop in Austin. while they are a smaller shop, and thus carry only a few brands of bicycles, they are more than willing to spend hours helping to pick out the right bike for you. The friendly atmosphere is priceless and they never pressure you into anything. The best part is that they are both racers and so they know sooooo much about bikes, unlike many other stores that just hire people and then have them "learn on the job" about bikes. These guys knew it all going into it! They are the nicest bike owners you'll find anywhere in Austin and they know their stuff! Plus, the great counter setup allows you to hang out and watch while they are servicing your bike. Heck, you might even learn a thing or two while you are there!

Pros: very friendly, very relaxed, very knoweledgeable

Cons: parking? meh, bring some coins with you and park on the street. if you're a cyclist you won't mind walking a block to park.

Sol and Eric are very knowledgeable and friendly as soon as you enter their shop. You're made to feel at home within seconds, I think it's because they love what they do - unlike other shops who hire staff that don't care about YOUR needs. I've taken my bike for routine service and was taken care and out the door within 10 to 15 minutes. These guys are worth calling or visiting, I highly recommend you give them a try.

Pros: True "local bike shop" experience and ambience! Excellent customer service.

Cons: Parking is not as huge as Wal-Mart's but let's get real, shall we?
