The Bellmont had horrible service, it was freezing cold, the tea was luke warm, the check was wrong.... what can I say? For these prices it should be a great experience. Will not go back to the Bellmont.

Had Sunday morning brunch at the Belmont. If we had added mimosas/drinks to our brunch maybe it would not have seemed so pricey for mediocre food . $18.95-The variety and quality of food was good but not outstanding. I do love the interior

I used to love going to Belmont for lunch. Last time I went they informed us they had a new chef, but they were still able to bring me something similar to what I was used to ordering. This time, the food was awful. Plain, freezer-burned, salty, cheap. But the same prices as before. Service wasn't great either. We decided at this rate we give them 6 months.

Recently they changed ownership. I usually enjoy their happy hour on Sunday evening. It's really not what it use to be. Food is lacking in quailty. Service is pretty terrible. The drinks are stiff, but my date didn't get what she asked for. If you've already been drinking and want to listen to good music hit it up; if not I would miss this one and save yourself.

Pros: hard to screw up a beer

Cons: price, service, quality, managers

Had such violent food poisoning the other night at Belmont and they didn't give the slightest bit of attention or concern when we called and told them about it. I was almost hospitalized because it was a food with mayonnaise (one of the worst types) yet the manager didn't return a single phone call (3 messages were left). I wasn't looking for a free meal or any compensation but wanted them to at least acknowledge the problem. This was on top of their wait staff trying to overcharge us by $40 on our bill the same night. They said they were charging happy hour prices to get us to order but then charged full price. Ownership apparently changed recently so I urge anyone thinking of going there to think again and go somewhere else. No one should be as violently ill as I was immediately after eating their food!

Great drinks, great outdoor seating, great stage setup... great area to dance! My friends and I really love this place! I've only been here to have drinks, so I cannot comment on the food.

Brunch;

Find some where else to go for your Sunday brunch! This place is OK if you are a college undergrad looking for food on Sunday afternoon after a night of drinking. However, if you are seeking a quality brunch: the food, customer service and atmosphere will not be acceptable.

When my wife and I walked in we were sat in the back of the outdoor portion of the restaurant at a table where the seats were wet. The hostess didn't even make an effort to wipe the chairs down. Our waitress took about 10 minutes to come to the table, but she managed to wait on at least 1 other table (seated after us) before bringing us water. Right at the point we were about to leave (10 min) she came to get our order. We ordered the brunch. The wait staff brought out some pretty bad mimosas and some un-warmed Grocery store cinnamon rolls. The "fresh fruit" was obviously a grocery store, two day old pre-cut selection.

But what capped it all off was how the person delivering the food just threw the food on the table and walked away with out a word. I will never go back there for brunch, and prospects for dinner are slim.

We left without tasting the rest of the brunch, and we went to Moonshine where the food, atmosphere and service was great as always.

My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's Day and it was so nice. Our waiter was very nice and I never felt rushed like some places can make you feel when they are having a busy night. I am vegan and the menu for that night was fixed. Our waiter was so nice and asked the chef what he could do. Apparently the chef had not done any specialty orders that day but was more than happy to accomodate. The food was fantastic and I thought it was so nice how attentive they were to my needs.

Almost everything they told me would happen, including a PRIVATE party that was not private, did not happen nor does anyone seem to care. If you want to have an open bar-be careful-they let anyone order drinks on your tab and the desserts came out after most of the guests had left. One thing that can help you save money--you don't need music--you just better hope that whatever band is playing that nite is something you like cause there is no way to avoid it. Best advice: plan a party somewhere else.

We arrived at 5 to enjoy a nice meal. It took the waiter a full ten minutes to take our drink order. There was no one else seated at the time. The tuna sashimi appetizer was phenomenal. The crem brulee was burnt and so was my red wine reduction over my filet mignon. The outside host was kicking people off of tables, creating a ruckus. maybe they were having an off night, but in my opinion, the presence of a manager was absent. The place was a bit in disarray.

Very cool atmosphere though

Two of my coworkers and I went after work. Our waiter was awesome. Food was fab! Note, if you are going to eat a meal, grab a booth- the high bar tables are a bit on the small side.

I'd definitely go back. =)

I have spent many an evening at the Belmont and I have not found a problem with it at all. They are the place to come for free Austin events. THey have Free movies on Mondays, free music on the weekends and the sweetest staff around. Not to mention they are very accommodating to large groups of crazy women. I throughly enjoy their food. and drinks. I would bring any of my out of town friends to eat here. I'm already planning to have a party there latter in the year. So yes take a small drive to downtown warehouse district and go to the Belmont !

I came here last weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday, using my debit card to buy a drink. The atmosphere was ok (definitely not great), and their drinks were lackluster...we left not too long after arriving. When I double-checked my bank account balance, I noticed the lovely bar staff of the Belmont decided to tack on an additional $1 tip to my card (keep in mind that I already added a tip...this was an extra present someone decided to give him/herself)- definitely *not* ok. All I have to say is that you're better off hitting any one of the similar lounge/bars in the area...you certainly won't be missing much (and hey, at least you won't be losing whatever the staff might decide to tack on your bill after you leave!)

This place makes great drinks, offers food, has good atmosphere: both inside and outside. It's also one of the few places in town that makes my favorite drink: sidecar.

With great anticipation (I had been dying to get here due to all the hype) I took three of my girlfriends here for dinner on a Friday night. One of them was from out of town. I found the atmosphere, for dinner anyway, a bit strange. The more important thing was the waiter/staff. We had the worst service. The waiter would disappear and had no personality. We ordered wine, which was sour - sent it back which was met with alot of grief. When he finally re-appeared with the wine (15 mintes later) he stated that indeed it was sour and did we want another bottle. We then proceeded to get our food. Two of us got fish - which was very bland. So I can end this with something positive, I did enjoy the patio outside. I would go back for a bar atmosphere and for DRINKS ONLY!

Last night I went to the Belmont for drinks and dinner. We were seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. We soon discovered that it was Margarita Monday and ordered a round of $1 Margaritas. The ritas were great, and who can beat that price! I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and thoroughly enojed the moistness of the chicken and the fluffiness of the mashed potatoes. I'm not sure the name of the band that was playing, but it had a swing feel to it, and really made me want to dance. Overall, I had a great time out and will definitely be going back soon.

I went to The Belmont for lunch yesterday for the first time and was very impressed. The atmosphere is wonderful, with your choice of the tropical patio or the more intimate bar inside. My co-worker and I both ordered the chopped salad. The ingredients mixed really well together, and the dressing was light and tasty. The service was great and I will definitely be going back soon.

The Belmont LOOKS great. The food lacks that "wow" factor that you would expect from a place with a Chef! The music is pretty lame, and the mixed drinks are just okay. The manager Brian seemed arrogant, and the cocktail servers are slow, slow, slow when the patios get busy. My friend ordered a lemondrop martini and it was horrible! Also, the patio uniforms are very unflattering. I might go back for the atmosphere, but I will stick to vodka sodas (hard to mess up) and eat somewhere good first!

Don't Waste Your Money Here!!!

This pretentious Vegas movie set posing as a restaurant won't last long. Once the newness of this spot wears off, you will be left with poor service and watered down drinks.
We visited the Belmont and were treated very poorly by the owner Brian. It's hard to believe that someone in the service industry doesn't understand the importance of customer experience.

I was with a party of eight and none of us will return to the Belmont.
There are too many other places that will treat you with the courtesy you would expect.

After having lunch at the Belmont recently, I was thoroughly impressed. I found the staff to be both prompt and attentive despite a sizeable lunch crowd. A delicate balance of feeling attended to, but not bugged, was struck with expertise.

The food (I had the french onion soup and the steak salad) was superbly prepared. My steak was cooked precisely as I had ordered, which, quite frankly, has been a problem at many other restaurants I've been to. I would highly recommend the Belmont to anyone wishing to have a comfortable and well prepared meal. I can only imagine that my experience there is the standard and not the exception; satisfying enough to meet all tastes.

The Belmont is an Austin original which is one of the main traits that I look for when going out to eat in this city. This restaurant and bar is a pretty cool place with lots of good people watching. They have fun events such as Moonlight Cinema, Unwine Wednesdays and Margaritas Mondays. Their live music scene is fun - especially Mr. Fabulous on Wednesdays. The Belmont salad, cuban sandwich and Blue Moon on tap!

Being a first time visitor to Austin from Maryland, the Belmont came recommended to us from our concierge. Our group chose to dine inside for dinner, however the next day we revisited so we could sit in the patio and enjoy the palm trees and music. Although it was very busy, the host greeted us right away and we sipped a cocktail while waiting for our table and met some friendly locals. We almost expected a little attitude from the staff but found our server to be unpretentious, friendly and knowledgeable. A suggestion of appetizers of French onion soup and friend calamari were outstanding. The crispy slices of jalapenos in the calamari added a tasty Texas twist, and the soup had ample amounts of cheese. Entree portions of the chopped salad with roasted chicken are humongous! We loved Austin, and definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting.

I've been coming here every couple months since the place opened, but my girlfriends and I have recently become members of the Unwine Wednesdays wine club. I've been having a blast every week, and we usually stay for dinner too. The keylime pie is the best in town, and the staff stays on top of things. The decor is to die for, and there is usually a fun band playing on the patio. The rooftop is perfect for summer time! It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but that's really to be expected.

It has been my experience that there are many wonderful places in Austin that serve good food , much like this restaurant. What sets the excellent restaurants apart from the norm is the manner in which they treat there customer. Tonight we had possibly our worst experience ever in Austin. The manager was extremely rude and confrontational. Promotional offerings by the restaurant were not honored. Management failed to honor commitments made by the staff as well as there promotional coupon. I would suggest that prior to using any promotional material (if you must go there) you request a manager on duty to commit to the promotion and not the waiter. Apparently what the waiter tells you doesn't matter.... Better yet don't go there at all and spend your money in a quality restaurant that has quality service.

I had dinner here Tuesday evening with a couple of friends and the service was very good. I had a ribeye which was one of the specials last night. Ribeyes are my favorite so I'm very picky, but The Belmont had one of the best ribeyes I've ever had, even among the best $$$$ steakhouses. It's just very flavorful. I recommend it to even the most selective steak connoisseurs.

My husband and I went last Monday night after reading all the great reviews. We ordered the appetizer special, crabcakes, and to be honest, the frozen ones that my mother picks up at Costco had more flavor and meat. They were all bread, and for $12-- total rip-off. We also both got the Red Snapper Specials for dinner. We had a debate over which had less flavor, the fish or the sauce-- incredibly disappointing. My fish also came out a little under cooked. The vegetables that came w it were good only bc they were really garlicky. But were just swimming in greasy butter. I would have left pretty disappointed except that luckily my husband ordered the molten chocolate cake-- it was absolutely amazing, and I'll be back for that-- but I would not eat dinner there again. We didnt make it out for drinks on the patio, but it looked nice. We had a couple martinis w our dinner, and they turned out w no problem.

Pros: desserts, patio

Cons: dinner

We loved the Calamari and the attentiveness of the waitstaff. We unfortunately had to send one of our steaks back because it was overcooked. We were visited by a less desirable critter half way through dinner, running along the back of the bench seating. Quite funny actually. One of the waiters tried to capture it, to no avail. We were given deep apologies from two different waitstaff and was offered complimentary desert. Service was outstanding, atmosphere was pleasant and the food was good. The Pomogranate Martini's could use a little more alcohol and less juice.

The service was warm and friendly, if a bit slow coming around the tables at times. The waiter helped me navigate an unfamiliar wine list and brought out several glasses to taste. Interestingly, he said that he enjoyed watching people taste wines, as it was exciting and something he looked forward to learning.

The food was good, and bordered on great. The arugala/pear/goat cheese salad is very good. The butternut squash ravioli come three to a plate with a heap of cooked spinach, and they'll remind you of mom's pumpkin pie. Dessert, on the other hand, left much to be desired, though they do have a good 18-year scotch.

The server also brought out a complimentary CD of music played at the Belmont. Dean Martin, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock and such. It's a nice gift and unique among fine restaurants I've visited lately.

Pros: Great decor, food is great, music

Cons: Parking (if you don't walk), wine list doesn't include Italian varietals.

I have not had an opportunity to have dinner at the Belmont; however, I have had several lunches there and they have always been GREAT ! I especially loved the chicken pot-pie which was served i this cute boat shaped bowl. It was filling and tasty. I love the music at night and Chris must be the best bartender in town. I went in for the grand opening and sat at Chris' bar on and off through the evening. I didn't go back to the Belmont for over a month, I went to Chris' bar and he said: "Hi Penny ! Good to see you again !" I go to his bar ever since and he's friendly and quick. They have a decent red wine selection, which is my drink of preference (and Chris always remembers which one too). Matt ... you've done a great job once again. This is your best bar so far ! Keep up the good work!

Pros: at lunch: great food and fast service

We delighted in our Valentine Dinner at the Belmont. Mike had made reservations early, (January) and we got the best table in the house. Greeted at the door with a Red Rose for me and prompt seating at our table was exceptional service. Mike had the salmon, while I had the shrimp and cheese grits. Both were presented beautifully and tasted fantastic.! We have never been disappointed in any meal we've had at the Belmont but tonight they were really on their game. The wait staff was friendly and handled the crowded floor very well. We started our dinner with the calamari and I have to say I was impressed. Fried in a light cornmeal batter and combined with fried jalape?o chips it is heaven for the taste buds. Paired with a white sauce and a marinara, I have to say they get 5 stars from me on this dish. Dinner was topped off with complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and a free CD of music from their lounge. I have to say the only disappointment was the club upstairs was rented out so there was no dancing. That would have been a perfect end to a perfect meal. I would highly recommend The Belmont and if you have not discovered this Austin jewel then you are missing out. Try it for yourself! BTW: our two meals and calamari was only $45 bucks and was plenty of food. Top class with affordability ~ I promise we will keep returning.

I heard a lot about the Belmont from the Chronicle and that critic on the radio all the time. We decided to go after they had been open a while. Here's the deal. We did not eat but went in for drinks on Friday 1/19. Valet was good, a little line at the door but no cover, so o.k. I went to the bar upstairs and ordered an absolute gibson and a taquerey martini. What I got was absolute in a martini glass with none of the little onions and on the second drink the bartender asked me what flavor gin I wanted. I said the clear one....
The inside of the buidling is nice at night but the floors were dirty. as for the patio, they need heaters or something.

If you want to pay 7 bucks for an incorrectly made drink, wait 10 minutes to get to the bar, and then stand in a crowded smokey tent, the belmont is for you.

Atmosphere as advertised, really enjoyed that, and cocktail service excellent on Friday night. The bartender sent our server back to our table to ask me what kind of bourbon I wanted in my Tom Collins. Whaaaat?

Pros: Concept is working!

Cons: Bartending experience ...?

I've only been here once, but I wasn't too impressed. The crowd was older--I was probably one of the youngest patrons there, at 25. The music was terrible! It was definitely "old people" music--slow and pretty boring. My friend and I were served our drinks in small disposable plastic cups, while everyone else got real glasses. What is that about?

Thinking I'd never get a reservation since The Belmont was new and trendy, I called on a Saturday and suprisingly, was able to get a 7:30 reservation. We arrived at 7:15, let the friendly valets park our car (nice not to have to worry about it), then walked in to find what appeared to be a fashionable crownd ranging from about 25 to 60. We're in our thirties, so this was a good thing. The bar was packed, but not uncomfortably so and the restaurant was full, save for a few booths. One of which was ours, so they really did honor the reservation. We sat down and noticed that at least two tables nearby were "Girls Night Out" groups.

Our server was friendly and warm without being overly gratuitous. He also paced things perfectly -- drinks, meal dessert. The wine-by-the glass list was okay, nothing to write home about. I should have gone for the Belmontini, so I can't complain. The food itself was good. I can't say it was extraordinary, but I can't think of any actual flaws other than the roast chicken being extremely buttery. It tasted great, but if you are sensitive to fat, be careful. The presentation, freshness, salt level was fine. My husband ordered the New York strip and remarked that it was perfectly cooked. We ordered key lime pie for dessert and it was very good too.

My advice is pick The Belmont if you are looking to drink, people watch, enjoy a good meal and maybe get dressed up a little. While there were plenty of people dressed casually, there were also quite a few women showing off their assetts. It's actually kind of fun to see people in this city get dressed up once in a while. Albeit, it's nice knowing we don't have to.

Cons: food was on the rich side, but that's not necessarily bad for most

I guess we expected this place to have better food. Not that it was bad we just thought it could be a lot better. The menu reminds me of an old steak house. So does the interior actually. Don't get me wrong this place is hip and cool but would be much better if the food kicked some butt which it doesn't. We won't be back to eat. Maybe for drinks though.

Some friends I popped into the Belmont for dinner on a Friday night. There was a two-hour wait for a dinner table, but hey, it's Austin. We saw in the bar and ordered drinks. It took 20 minutes for them to arrive. Same problem with the next round, and at this point the place wasn't even that crowded. The beeper the restaurant gave us kept emitting a single loud BEEEEP! every ten seconds or so; the hostess claimed to have no idea what the problem was (though I found out the following week they knew damn well what was happening, since the same thing happened to sets of friends on other nights as well: someone there hadn't ordered a set of beepers with a wide-enough range, so the BEEEPs meant we were out of radio range, never mind that we were maybe 50 feet from the hostess stand).

But sure, I could forgive a few "growing pains" since the place was new, but what we could not forgive was the food. My friend's short ribs tasted like they'd been popped into some boiling water for a half-hour and subsequently served without spice or sauce. We've both had some bad meals, but this was THE worst entree we can recall seeing in over a decade. He sent it back. Every other dish was better, but still mediocre and definitely NOT worth the inflated prices.

We've been back a few times for drinks - the outdoor patio is hard to beat if it's a nice night - but food? Couldn't pay me to eat it again!

Last week I went to The Belmont with several associates of mine and had the best time. From the moment we arrived to when we left we were treated like royalty. A beautiful valet girl promptly greeted us when we arrived who was very welcoming. What an excellent concept I thought, girl valet greeters.
Inside was also wonderful. The decor was very beautiful. I had several of The Belmont?s signature martinis that tasted great. Everyone was so attentive to us from the valets, to the door guys, to the wait staff. A++++

We visited last weekend for my husband's birthday. It was great to come in to a quiet, swank restauarant at 7:30 and enjoy a good dinner and appetizers for under $25. The service was good, unobtrusive, and friendly. Cappucino martinis were good, ambiance was excellent. HOWever..

As the night wore on the place got more and more crowded, to the point where things reached the level of being uncomfortable. Possibly because most everyone was packed inside on this cold night, the waitress who took over our table at 9 pm charmingly acknowledged my husband's birthday and then all but disappeared into the people-ether. Our martinis got short-poured and barely filled half the glass.

So our experience at the Belmont was mixed. The impression I get is that it can't handle its own popularity on colder nights. Lucky, we see few of these in Austin so I'm sure a warmer evening, it would be perfect.

8 out of 10.
