My husband received great care while he was at this facility. He was only there just over a month for therapy, but during that time we couldn't be more pleased. The rehab department was top notch. They got my husband back on his feet and home in half that time the doctor said. I am very please and thankful for Courtyards at Pasadena.

I have had the opportunity to visit with several residents at this facility. The staff, from the aides on up to the administrator, are all very helpful and accomodating. I am scheduled for hip replacement surgery early next year and will need extensive rehab. I will be looking at admitting myself into The Courtyards at Pasadena. I have seen first hand that they offer excellent rehab services and have all faith that my care and treatment during rehabilitation from surgery will be top notch.

I was visiting a Church member at the courtyards and was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and the courtesy and caring of the staff. Nursing home care is never easy, and they seem to be able to handle many situations well. When I looked at the other reviews, I was surprised at the negativity - my experience was very positive, the person I was visiting was well cared for, cleanand the staff attentive to the needs of all residents.

I have had my parents and an aunt at the Courtyards! My aunt is now living there long term and she loves it!! The facility is clean and the staff is caring and very attentive, my parents were there for rehab and we were able to spend the night if we chose to, the staff provided beds and meals for me and even offered to assist me in paying toll as I had missed a lot of work to care for my parents. These other reviews sound like disgruntled folks! I have dealt with the Courtyards since they have been opened and while no place is perfect, I never encountered a horrible experience and the Administrator and DON were at my disposal and met all of our needs! Good job Courtyards, dont worry about the nay sayers they are problably folks that are never happy anyway!

This is one of the worst places I have ever had the chance to encounter. I have personally worked in nursing homes/rehabs and yes abuse goes both ways, I agree but this is the most pathetic excuse for a facility in the world. The DON is offensive and it basically all trickled down from there. The care is almost non-existant with the exception of 1 day nurse, 1 night nurse and ONE aide that did their jobs professionally. Pitifull at best. And YES, I did take my loved one out! And by the way, the DON says liberally when people complain, "If you don't like it here,.. leave!" Wow!! Is that not care at its best?

If you have the opportunity to place your loved one in a different facility DO IT! As stated previously, you will be lied to on every level. They never have enough staff, epecially on the weekends and the staff they do have are not properly informed of residents problems..
I have seen first-hand how management works. The main goal is the bottom dollar. The Administrator (if that's what you want to call her) is a JOKE! I have gone in and found my family member laying in his own excretement and soaked. When I finally found an Aide and explained the problem she immediately took care of the situation. She was new, been working there for 3 days in another part of the facility and this was her first day in that unit. She had just come on and the previous Aide had already left. She was told what rooms she had to take care of and at the time she was going room to room writing down the residents names so she could get familiar with them. She was NOT instructed beforehand about each residents disabilities are special concerns. (By the way, everything is on computer and not accesible by your lowly Aide), She told me that what she understood was that the earlier Aide was supposed to check the residents before she went off duty.
There is definetly a LACK OF COMMUNICATION between the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Skilled Nursing, etc.. There are guidelines and procedures that should be adhered to but you won't find that here. You will also hear "That's not my area/resident/responsibility" and then look at you like you're a leech! And by God if there is someone standing around that could give you an answer, DON'T EXPECT IT! You'll have to ask each one of them. UUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
By The Way, I am very familiar with long term care facilities. I have had loved ones in them for the last 10 years starting with my mother.

I would like to thank the DON and Administrator for their kind words and actions during the last few days my mom was with us. We had her at home and someone recommended we move her to The Courtyards so that my dad would not have those last few moments of her dying at home.
They made him as comfortable as if he were their patient. He was able to stay overnight each night with her. They fed him and he showered and was with her in her last moments. This was an experience and it was made easier with their support. My mom and dad were married 63 years and he was with her until the end. He is at peace and has accepted our loss. Thank you Courtyards for your support.

Towards the middle of 09 my grandfather was in and out of the courtyards. At first it was for further treatment to help him get his strength back in his legs but then it became more perminate when I couldn't care for hime by myself any longer. He was there maybe a month before he started telling me to find him a new place. At first I thought it was because he wanted more of an apartment but I soon learned it was because he didn't like the care. At times I thought he was afraid to talk and others he was just to weak to talk. I started looking for a place that could give him the help he needed but it wasn't fast enough. He was in the hospital more living there then he was living on his own. There were times he couldn't hardly talk he was so out of it and I know it takes hours to get like that. They weren't putting his bipap machine on him and when they did he would complain so I would go up there around midnight and there would be no water in the machine. I wouldn't want to wear it either. He ended up with an infection on his leg anf they couldn't explain where it came from. I asked for a doctor to see it and the only thing he did was order neoporin to be put on it. Instead of getting better it got worse and another one came up. I found out they weren't showering him either so they would make an infection come up. The last time my grandfather went to the hospital from there he wasn't really responsive. He wasn't talking just saying huh. I wish I would have gotten him out of there and maybe he would be alive today. He went in on a Friday and passed on Tuesday. The doctors said that the machines were keeping him alive and that's why he didn't pass Friday. Afterwards my father went to get his things and almost all my grandfathers new close and some of his old ones were missing as well as his wheelchair and bipap machine. The company went to pick the things up seeing as they weren't paid off before his passing and the courtyards said we took everything. This place is a horrible place to take someone unless you want them to suffer. If I had it to do over again I would have fault my father harder to get my grandpa out of there.

My mother was sent here for 21 days of rehab on her hip after a fall. She was admitted on a Friday but no rehab was done until after an evaluation on Monday. The staff was very slow to respond to her needs. Even when she needed a bed pan it would take them 1/2 hour to respond. While there she got a sty her eye that required hot compresses to be applied. The staff wouldn't do it unless she requested it. Different parts of the staff don't communicate. A speech pathologist determined that she could eat regular meals and not aspirate the food if she swallowed carefully and could take her meals in the dinning room yet the meals staff continued to bring her her meals to the room. The doctors determined that she could be released sooner than the 21 days that medicare would pay for but she was kept there for the full term presumably to use up the medicare money. The 21 st day was Jan 1 but because it was a holiday there was no staff on hand to process her release so she was kept an extra day. For this they want to charge her $133 not covered by medicare.Take my advice don't send anyone you love here.

My mother in law was in the Courtyards for about 3 weeks for therapy after being in Kindred Hospital. Compared to what I went through with my father at Health South in the Woodland after his stroke the Courtyards were a Godsend. I rarely had a problem and the nursing staff did not treat me like I was bothering them while they were on a personal phone call. The Therapy was great and any questions I had were address and not in a condescending way. I loved the fact that the facility was carpeted, because while my MIL was at Kindred she fell and that put her back by many weeks. Those that have a problem with this facility have obviously never been to one that really is a horror story. To all those who work there, thank you so very much, it made my stress much less.

The facility is new. The therapy was excellent. There were some serious problems. There is no intercom system and to obtain assistance, the resident must ring. Often it took up to an hour for someone to come. While many of the nurses and a few of the aides were pleasant and attempted to be helpful because there was no way for them to determine how serious the problem was, the residents can only wait. The facility was understaffed with poor communication between the aides and the nursing staff. Training for the aides appeared to be inadequate and some of the late night/early morning staff were inconsiderate. As a former skilled nursing home director, I tried to talk to the administrator to suggest some ways of correcting these problems. I was told by several staff members that they spoke to her about my concerns but I never saw her. As stated previously, if the rest of the staff and the facility was as good as the therapy, this would be a good place. The only reason that I would go back to this place was if I needed long term therapy and with it was assured that I could return to my home.

My dad has been there for a week now in their Skilled Nursing side of the facility. The rooms are VERY nice and the nurses and nurses assistants have been very helpful. My dad needs a good amount of care and they have been nothing but great with him and my mom.

The Courtyards at Pasadena was a life Saver. My father had a stroke and after hospital went to The Courtyards at Pasadena. They had a beautiful facility and a wonderful rehab. Dad is now walking but he does not want to come home. I am so glad that he is happy because he is safer there then at my home alone.

THANK YOU!!

They pretty much ignore the "guests" on the weekends.
My dad arrived on "dump day". On Fridays the hospital dumps the patients there that they don't want in the hospital over the weekend.
Then there is no service at the Courtyards over the weekend. No therapy, no maintenance, very limited nursing staff.
Don't expect the staff to responde within 30 minutes to any requests.
