Best restaurant in Corpus Christi. The service is always outstanding, the food, specials, and events are superb. The Quesos Frescos is outstanding, I have brought guests there who enjoyed foods they do not usually eat. My husband turns green at the thought of a mushroom-and fell in love with the Portabella Fries.

Thank you Sultan for a great experience! I have been to Europe and the Middle East and this restaurant does a wonderful take on traditional dishes.

This place just sucks.

I really, really wanted to like this place. I tried very hard--I really did. I feel like I've been here enough to say that their problems aren't a result of a bad night or several bad nights--it's just the way they are, unfortunately.

The food, to begin with, is bland. The quesos frescos was all right when I tried it some time ago, but everything else is just not impressive. The food is outrageously expensive for the quality and portion. And most recently, the last straw: I ordered a dish, with veggies listed as a side, and what I received was laughable. The veggies were so few in number and size that they looked like a garnish. 6 small pieces of vegetables--a small mushroom cut in half (2), two 1in by 1in pieces of red onion, a 1in by 1in piece of red bell pepper, and a sixth tiny piece, can't remember what it was. And $16 for this dish? That's just robbery. I've tried a number of their dishes, and they're all the same: bland and overpriced. Even their desserts are bland. Maybe the chocolate one is all right, but really, is a chocolate lava cake that hard?

One time when I came here for lunch, we waited for an hour for our food. In our order, we had salads, a soup, sandwiches, and one other dish. Over an hour for salad, soup, and sandwiches?! They had one very ditzy, unapologetic waitress working, who didn't seem to notice or care that other people were coming and going in the restaurant, but we were still sitting there, needing refills and our food. The lack of waiters, I presume, prompted the owners, a husband and wife and a daughter, to arrive at the restaurant. The daughter sat one group to a table, then left to get a Starbucks drink. The husband walked around once to refill drinks and disappeared for the rest of the time. And the wife, stood behind the bar on the phone for what seemed like hours. Was she trading stocks or something?

When I had enough, I asked for a manager, and the stock broker, after hearing the situation and my accounting for the lack of help, couldn't care less about the situation and defended the indefensible. Only my dish was taken off the bill only after I demanded that it be taken off--if I waited any longer, I would have been even later to my appointment. The soup never arrived, causing one dining partner a meal. I'm surprised they didn't charge for that anyway. The food, as I was told, eventually arrived, well over an hour after we placed our order. And again, for salad, soup, and SANDWICHES?!

In my observations and experiences with the owners, I get a strong vibe of arrogance and apathy. On my last visit one night, at a regular dinner hour, I walked in, and the male owner begrudgingly got out of his chair to seat us because NO one was in the room to do so. Apparently, we interrupted him using an entire dinner table to count money in full-view. Who does that? Tries to set some sort of "upscale" atmosphere at a regular dinner hour with upscale prices and handles the restaurant's finances for everyone to see? Later, the whole owners' family gathered around the finances table to chat for the rest of the evening. They work hard, don't they?

Because they're located in Corpus Christi, I feel they think they can half-ass a restaurant and still get people to pay for their crap food. They take advantage of the dearth of Middle Eastern restaurants in this town in which Olive Garden is considered "fine Italian dining." It makes me incredibly angry and sad to see this family half-ass a restaurant, while other owners work their butts off to stay afloat in this economy. These people wouldn't survive in another city: Corpus is special with its chain restaurant fascination, and in the sea of undifferentiated chain food, this place is just oh-so "exotic."

I bought into this place as a refreshing respite to chain food in the area. I tried very hard to like it, going back when I knew I shouldn't. But alas, I was disappointed time and time again, be it portion size, quality of food, cost, or customer service.

To be clear, these are people who don't know how to business, and in fact, REFUSE to run a business appropriately. The only reason why they are able to maintain this place is because of the convenient environment that Corpus Christi provides. Don't buy into this "upscale," family owned, multi-national cuisine BS. It's a front designed to trick those who just don't really know what they're eating. Or paying for. You've been warned.

The food at the Sultan was different from most restaurants I've been to. They had good appetizers and the rest of the food was fresh. The staff was also very friendly.
