I visited McCormick and Schmick's in the Domain twice over a two week period. The first visit I was notified an hour into my meal that the steak was prepared incorrectly and that they would have to redo it. I asked why I was not notified earlier and the Manager stated she just found out. It seemed like the order was simply never placed. Because of shopping plans we left. I was however given a $40 gift card which was a nice way to attempt to make me happy and give them a second shot.

So I did just that. A week later I visited and this experience was even worse. First I was told a table would be ready in 15 minutes and it took 30. So while we waited we went to the bar and ordered a Crown shot. When we received the shot it had pulp, seed and black specks floating. When I asked the bartender to make another he just made excuses about how it go there as if it was not big deal. I don??t know about anyone else but if i order Crown that??s all I want in my glass. Once our table was ready the server greeted us by saying "Do you know what you want." Horrible, I get better greetings at McDonalds. Then half an hour into our meal we finally get the bread and the waiter stated it was because they were out which the manager later said they never had run out so basically just a lie. Then the steak was overcooked. I spoke with the manager, who was nice enough to comp our meal but at this point the waiter apparently did not appreciate our discussion with his manager because he began to become very rude. So I left a $5 tip on the table and as we walked away he held it to my face and in a sarcastic manner stated. "Thank you so much for the tip."

I have never had such a horrible experience and will never go back!

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Service, ability to prepare food as ordered, dirty glasses

Food is mediocre at best, and service is horrible. Do not sign up for the preferred guest program. I saved up over 900 points only to have 800+ of them taken away without warning due to not being able to use them by the end of the year (a new requirement). mCcORMICK and sCHMICKS is greatlly overrated and over priced. If you order king crab, you will get legs the size of snow crab legs. Ripoff!! They must be in a lot of financial trouble as they are using lower quality seafood and smaller portions. If you are going to spend this much money, go to Trulucks where you get what you pay for.

This being my second visit to this location I was looking forward to the experiance based on my first visit in February. The February visit was just my wife and myself. We arrived without reservations and were seated promptly. Service was prompt but some what impersonnel. I had oysters on the half shell for appitizer and ordered the NY Strip for the main course. Wife had shrimp. The meal was excellent. One of the best steaks I have had in Austin. Not the case with our March 4th visit. This time we had our two daughters. I made resevations considering the larger party. We were seated promptly. Service was good. As before I order oysters on the half shell which were good. My oldest daughtered orderd the salmon, my wife and youngest daughter ordered the ribeye and I ordered the NY Strip steak as before. Both ribeyes were very good and the salmon was perfectly prepared. My steak was quite a disappointment. Over cooked but also a thin cut and somewhat grainy. I did bring it to the attention of the waiter and he promptly prepared a new steak. This time the temperature was correct, med rare, but still the steak was not nearly as good as the previous visit. A thinner cut, maybe 3/4" at best and the aging was not done well.
I would recommend this restaurant and will most likely visit again, but may be a little more skeptical of the strip steak in the future.

On 12/3/2009 a party of 13 people and I had dinner and drinks at the McCormick & Schmicks @ the Domain. We had no reservations but walked into the restaurant whereby we were immediately greeted, and thanked for coming. The Host and Manager immediate interceded and had us a table ready in 2-3 minutes. Service was the best, everyone had a great time. The Food was 5 star! I can't say enough about this place. Constantly always a the best place to eat. THANK YOU GUYS/GIRLS at the Domain.

Last night Friday my wife and I decided to go to Happy Hour at McCormick and Schmick?s in the Domain. The atmosphere was great, crowded with an upbeat crowd that was more to the 40 plus side.
The Happy Hour Menu is priced at $1.95, $3.95 and $4.95, and what a value for the quality and quantity they serve for these prices. The drink specials are good as well.
We had three different dishes. The Rice rounds, Steamed mussels in White wine, and the fried calamari.
The rice rounds were done to perfection crisp on the outside tender and flavorful on the inside.
The mussels were not over cooked and very tender and tasty, the sauce though was magnificent, just the right blend of spices and garlic, and don?t forget to ask for some bread to dip.
The new Best of Austin Calamari should go to McCormick and Schmick?s in the Domain period. I am from New York City and it is hard to get perfectly breaded and cooked calamari but they have found the recipe. It is tender and very lightly breaded with no greasiness at all. I know the chef has to watch the time very closely; a couple of seconds to long and you have rubbery food which is what most restaurants serve. It is served with three dipping sauces, but not with traditional marinara but I got over this rather quickly as I was in heaven from the taste. It is a large portion and only $4.95.
The service and attentiveness makes you think you are in a very high-end restaurant in New York or Paris, not Austin. Two managers were constantly checking to see if everything was ok, this on top of the waiter being excellent. We had a long conversation with one of the managers and he said the company?s philosophy is to serve the best quality food and just as important to make sure the customer was very well taken care of.
We can?t wait to have dinner there and if it is as good as Happy Hour that will be great.
