I went to Joe DiMaggio's for the first time to celebrate my anniversary last night and was quite disappointed. We ordered the 12oz filet and the scallops The filet was good, but for $44, I was expecting fantastic. The scallops were overcooked and lacking in flavor, and the ravioli that accompanied them was dry and chewy. While the service was great, it didn't make up for the fact that the food was below average and the restaurant was freezing cold. I expected a lot more.

Went to Joe's for our anniversary. Great ambiance, waiter was prompt and had some good suggestions.

We ordered the
Polenta - Best EVER Great would go just for that!!!!
Mixed Greens Salad - Hubby liked, I'm not a fan of the dressing or the silver dollar sized croutons
Squash Ravioli - Was undercooked, the pasta texture was kind of like raw flour once you bit into it. Great sauce! Filling was excellent! Not so sure of the warm greens on the top but tasted good when mixed with the tangy sauce.
Rigatoni W/Sausage and chicken - Just skip this. Cheese was slightly burnt on top, Flavor just plain bad. My husband had it boxed up but we decided to dump it once we got in the door.

The Sirrah wine my husband had was pretty good.

The sourdough bread was good but the other bread was waaayyy salty. The dipping sauce they give you is very good though.

The desert menu was lacking the chocolaty rich desert we were craving.

Nice place go for appetizers (the Polenta is AWESOME) or their HH but skip the meal.

This must be the most beautiful restaurant in the Domain shopping center (if not all of Austin). My girlfriends and I love the Marilyn Monroe Room. Red velvet booths and a swanky vibe make this our favorite birthday get together spot. The Happy Hour is great too. $5 for lots of different drinks and food too. My birthday is the next one in our group. I know where we'll be celebrating it --- At Joe DiMaggios!

Pros: Beautiful restaurant in a great upscale mall

Cons: Parking can be tough on weekends

This place is great. I can't wait for my next trip back to Austin, Tx for some more of that Joe DiMaggios bone in ribeye. Tender, juicy, succulent and delicious are just the tip of the iceberg for words I would use to describe these incredible carnivorous dreams on a plate. You've got to get this with the potatoes au gratin and the demi sauce. Don't forget to spend a little time on the patio by the fire pit. Cool (and clean) bathrooms.

This is the best restaurant at the domain and in Austin! The inside of the restaurant is replete with beautifully enlarged photos of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. The round booths are great for a small group. My favorite part, however, is the demi glace on the New York Strip and the Bone in Ribeye. My husband loves the gnocchi. Too many wines to name. Tell 'em Erica sent ya!

I was in the Domain area this past weekend for a business conference, and my hotel recommended this place for a nice dinner out. I am so glad they did! A few of us took advantage of their HH in the bar with $5 martinis, and the polenta was delicious. We were seated for dinner in the dining room surrounded by high leather booths that made us feel first class. I ordered the chopped salad, the 12 oz. filet,-medium & the hazelnut semi-freddo for dessert. The chopped salad was a wonderful combination of flavors and not too over powered by the dressing like some other steakhouse salads. My medium filet came out perfect, and it was so full of juice & flavor, it makes me drool all over again thinking about it. Our server was attentive and made the experience at Joe DiMaggio's "fine dining." He was the one that suggested something different for dessert, and I was not dissappointed. I usually go with a tiramisu, but the Hazelnut semi-freddo was so good & sweet, I will order it again when I go back. The price point is definitely a little up there, but completely worth it.

This was absolutely one of the worst meals that we have ever had. We had extremely high hopes due to the atmosphere, etc. We arrived during happy hour and were pleased with our appetizer. After that, however, things went downhill, We ordered a warm spinach salad, which was just wilted and lacking in flavor. We were still upbeat and joked about getting the salad from North, and bringing it here so we could have a decent salad. However, shortly after that our steak, potatoes au gratin, and creamed spinach arrived. The steak had been ordered medium rare. It arrived totally charred and burned on the outside and raw on the inside. The taste was bitter. The potatoes had to be cut with a knife. The spinach was nothing more than steamed spinach with cream poured over it. The sides arrived with no serving spoon. We had to use our forks to put them on our plate. Our policy is that we do not return items to the kitchen as we have both worked in restaurants in the past and know workers respond to this.

We did complain to the manager, who comped us 2 happy hour drinks (we did not ask to be comped for anything). The manager is all of maybe 24 years old, and obviously did not take our comments seriously.

If you want a top quality steak, do not come here. I have had better steaks at Outback. We were celebrating a birthday, and this was a total fiasco. Go to Ruth Chris, at a comparable price, where you will get top quality steak and service. I wish we had.

The patio makes this place my new favorite restaurant. That AND THE FOOD are what this place is all about. We wanted to have our rehearsal dinner here, but they didn't have a fully private room to accomodate us. They did have some private dining, but only sectioned off by a curtain didn't work for us. Oh well, we still love the happy hour. $5 for all that!?! Words of advice, request a booth. That's the best way to go.

This place is incredible! What a beautiful restaurant! I wish I'd known about it sooner. My girlfriend and I had dinner there last weekend and had an incredible meal. Our server was very professional and on top of it. He hung up my girlfriend's jacket as we were seated at one of the swanky leather booths and did a great job recommending dishes (don't miss the bone-in ribeye). The polenta was divine. We also really loved the warm chocolate souffle. Where have you been Joe DiMaggio? I know that we well be back soon!

Cons: Parking - Use the Valet!

The patio and bon fire are cozy & nice for a drink and some apps, especially during happy hour. Also the Marilyn Monroe lounge is great & sultry for that first date. But the main restaurant is just WAY too loud as the diners compete with the live music in an open space. Also main dishes are way over priced for what you get.

This place must truly be going out of business. I was really in the mood for a steak but was reluctant to spend $40 on a piece of meat on which the reviewers labeled as disappointing. I will skip over the salads which were in fact just as I expected, marginal. I ordered the cured meats pizza, my fiance ordered the lasagna. All I could do when her dinner arrived was try to talk her out of eating it. It looked like it had been sitting in the fridge for 3-4 days uncovered, then a quick shot in the microwave, and then on through the broiler. Freshly made lasagna, does not look stale, crusty, gray, and mushy. The pizza slices were average size, slightly smaller perhaps, yet I couldn't even hold them with two hands. The "crust" was sagging through my fingers like some 2nd grade science project. I love floppy pizza that needs to be folded but this was concerning. I put it back on the plate and, grabbed another set of silverware and cut away what I would say was mostly cheese and no crust. After the first bite I found myself looking up at the ceiling trying to figure out what could possibly taste like this. The crust talked like wet sandwich bread that had soaked in oil. The meats were too salty, the cheese to proccessed, and the peppers tasted more like olives. Weird is the best way to describe it. The reaction to the dish across the table was similar. The noodles in the lasagna were dry and crusty, there was no riccotta, it was more like a meat only lasagna. My girlfriend likened each bite to eating a hamburger. I likened it to trying dogfood for the first time.
Concerned for our health, we had the plates taken away after only the first 1-2 bites. We gave the waitress polite but honest feedback on the food and she apologized. The manager took off the two entrees we did not eat so I appreciate that as well as the friendliness of our waitress.

If you do go, I suggest stiicking to the liquids and nothing that comes out of the kitchen.

My husband and I went here for a friend's birthday and were very disappointed! We've been there for happy hour which is pretty decent so we were shocked it was so bad this time. We started off with a drink with I asked for a glass of Pinot Noir and was told they only have 2 choices (Wow). I was not aware that a glass of wine turned out to be $16! I just ordered a wedge salad as my meal and I know a wedge salad is basically a wedge of lettuce but you can make them appetizing. I was served a a wedge of salad with ranch drizzled over it. That's it! My husband ordered the Linguine and Clams. The clams were rubbery and there were pieces of clam in each bite. One of our friends ordered a steak and had to send it back since it wasn't cooked how he ordered it. By the third time he just got a to go box since everyone else was finished eating. The food portions were small and WAY over priced. Needless to say we will not be going back there.

Just so you know, I have never written a bad review about a restaurant on here before. It takes something REALLY bad to make me spend my time on a Saturday night doing this. But, this experience was bad enough for me to spend time warning people. My husband and I regularly go to Eddie V's and we were looking to try something new. Joe DiMaggio's looked nice and we figured, given the location (high rent) and crowd, it couldn't be bad. What a disappointment!!! The steak was terrible... I would have sent it back at Outback, so obviously I expected better when it was $42!!! It tasted BAD... not just no flavor, but BAD flavor. I really don't know what they did to it. To replace the terrible steak, my husband ordered the special (swordfish) - also AWFUL - no flavor and overcooked. I ordered the seafood risotto, which was ok... I probably wouldn't have complained about it if the steak AND swordfish had not have been so bad. The waiter was fine... but I am really disappointed that when we had TWO bad meals, no manager even came to talk to us. Not that we wanted anything for free, but it would have been nice to at least have felt like the management cared enough to apologize for the fact that we spent almost $200 on probably the worst meal I have had since college. I will NEVER go back here. Eddie V's is a little cheaper and far and away better (by a LANDSLIDE). Don't waste your time OR money!

Pros: Parking

Cons: FOOD, service

No wonder Joltin' Joe has left and gone away. He must have eaten here. On our first ever visit we went for my fiance's birthday. I made reservations, indicating it was a special event. The valet parking was great, but that was the highlight of the evening. Things went downhill from there. Service was indifferent at best, the meal took more than 30 minutes to appear, and when it came it was terrible. The wine showed up 20 minutes after the food, in spite of reminders from me. We had the antipasto (artichokes were watery and flavorless, prosciutto salty and dried out, zucchini was soggy and bland), she had the Braciole (veal, prosciutto, provolone) and it was a la Chef Boyarde -- tasted like sauce out of a can. I had the Sicilian Fisherman's Stew that tasted of bitter, uncooked Heinz tomato paste slathered over unseasoned frozen shrimp, hot and tasteless scallops and rubbery mussels and clams. Can't speak about the wine because it showed up too late -- we wanted out of there by then. When I talked to the manager he said to let him know the next time I came and he'd "knock it out of the park." My thought? If you don't make it right immediately, there ain't no next time, cowboy.

...shouldn't be your first choice for steak.

Despite the other polarized reviews I went with open expectations: I am in the middle on Joe DiMaggio's. I had a good meal and ok service but I don't think it is worth the money as far as steaks are concerned. For less money and far better service I would eat at Flemings. For the same money or more I would go to Morton's.

RESTAURANT: the exterior and interior were very handsome. Great seating area outside and the dining room is dark, warm and comfortable. The curved booths along the wall look really cool. Too bad our party was too big to have sat there. The six of would have liked to have sat there.

SERVICE: our server was ok. For a restaurant in this price range ?ok? is sub-par in my opinion. Fine dining should command friendly, knowledgeable and experienced service. The guy didn?t know what kind of gin they had and his ignorance with wine was disappointing. I would rather have him fumble than fake it. While discussing a few of the wines he reached in to point at a selection and his fingers looked like he had been working under the hood all day. His fingers and fingernails were dark gray or black. Gross. His visits to the table were awkward and with an odd sense of timing. He took the orders from the guys first?not cool. I have had better service at Chili?s.

FOOD: my fillet was a little overcooked but had a great flavorful crust on the outside. The demi-glaze was also very tasty but I wish there had been a little bit more. The parmesan potato side that came with my filet was great. I cleaned my plate because it was good. Two of the guys ordered the 20 oz. bone-in ribeye and loved them. Everyone was happy with their meal. The girls loved the desserts.

OVERALL: I might go back to try their Italian food but I wouldn?t be in a hurry.

We (party of two) ate there Friday night, 7pm, no reservations, and were seated in minutes. The table was not the best location but turned out to be very good. The crab cake appetizer was crispy on the outside, but a little too moist for me on the inside. The wedge salad was excellent, with the unusual twist of pickled red onions. The chicken was delicious and they happily substituted all breast meat for a breast and a leg. The seafood stew was absolutely wonderful, full of scallops, mussels, clams, salmon, and shrimp, all cooked perfectly. We could not decide between the desserts and ended up with both the fruit crisp and chocolate souffle. The souffle was unbelievable; they serve it super hot right out of the oven and at the table, pour cream into the center, causing it to rise like chocolate lava. The waiter and staff were super attentive, not too much, but just right, with frequent refills on water, tea, and updates on the food. The manager stopped by, introduced himself, and asked for feedback. There was an upscale crowd, it was mostly full the whole time, the bar was busy, the piano player and guitarist were good, seemed like everyone was having a good time.
The waiter told us the menu was just changed this week. We will definitely be back!

When I stepped into JoeDiMaggio's I felt as though I walked back in time. When I had their porterhouse for the first time I was not impress, but I came back regardless for the ambiance. I told them I was not impress with their steak because of my first experience. However, I gave their rib eye a chance and it was awesome. I agree that Mandola's Italian (Driftwood) food is great, but the drive is very far. Joe DiMaggio's is the only restaurant that has ultra lounge feel in Austin. Reed's, sadly, has been closed unexpectedly. The GM, Kenny is wonderful and Debra(bartender) is friendly and knowledgeable on drinks. I wish they hired better bands than "Lucky Strikes". I highly recommend they hire Mr. Fabulous to sing Frank Sinatra's songs.

It?s not like me to complain but I have a great deal of respect for the Joe DiMaggio name which to me has always been synonymous with New York and with class.
But what I experienced the other night was class with the word ?no? in front.

My steak was overly cooked. The outside was charred and the inside had no ?pink?. This would be OK if I ordered a well-done steak, but I asked for a medium well.
My wife asked for a dish with pasta, muscles and a red sauce. Instead she received muscles, rice, and a clear sauce. Your wait staff than tried to convince us that Risotto was in fact pasta.
The establishment had a nice ?1950?s New York? style flair to it, great live music in the tradition of Sinatra, and good wine.
But the food was like my wife?s cooking on a bad night when we first got married ?and I came for the food.
And the service? The service was so-so. And by so-so I mean Denny?s in a suit.

If you can?t improve the service and the food than please lower the prices and remove the Yankee Clipper?s name from the building and change it to something more appropriate like "Shoeless Joe Jackson?s? or ?Pete Rose?s All You Can Eat Buffet?.

I'm so glad Austin finally has a great Italian restaurant! I recomment this to anyone who loves authentic Italian food with a new twist! You can really tell that all ingredients are fresh and that makes a world of difference. My personal favorite was the lasagna- a classic dish but perfected by the chefs here!

The food at this place is good, not excellent or great, but good especially considering the prices. However, one key drawback is that it is in the Domain shopping center. That might explain the level of arrogance and maybe the unfriendliness of the wait and reservation desk.

I called 1 hour and 30 minutes and asked for a reservation or to put me on the list, and they decided not do do so. After I asked if there is a wait they told me no. I got their there was not wait, but it still took them 15 minutes to seat us. Another 20 minutes for a glass of water and after ordering wine they took another 15 minutes to find that the bottle is not available. So pick another one and wait for another 10 minutes. We had already ordered, figured we better get our order in otherwise it will take... so after almost 3 hours we find ourselves with the question you want desert, as we couldn't spend another hour for that course we left.

So bring time if you go there.

I shall say that my only complaint may be is that I think they need a wider selection for appetizers. Otherwise, I had a GREAT time! It was beautiful and MMMmmmm the Food was delicious! I dont know what the other people have had that didnt like the restraunt, but I was sold on the New York strip! MMMmm good! And the service was great! Our waiter kept our drinks full and us updated on our food. THANKS! I like the restraunt very much and I would recommmend it, especially if your a steak lover!!! Goooooodddd!!!

Pros: The food and the service

Cons: not ur usual menu.(but still good)

My husband and I moved here from downtown Chicago and are so glad we finally have a place to go like Dimaggio?s! Not only is the food mouth watering, but the staff treats us like family. We dine their on every occasion we get, whether it is business dinners, happy hour at the bar or family night; it never gets old. The specials (like the ones they have lined up for Valentines Day) are amazing. We happened to be their on the day the chef was planning the special menu for the 14th and the excitement in his voice over the preparation of the lamb has left us in serious anticipation! Thank you for coming into the neighborhood and becoming our local favorite!

Pros: Parking, location, decor

Cons: not open for lunch

.

My family have been eating here since they opened last year. On our first visit the bar area was crowded and we were treated like regulars. That experience plus the amazing dinner and happy hour menu keeps us coming back. We have lived in major cities that are known for their culinary sophistication and Joe DiMaggio's would compete anywhere.

My husband and I went to dinner at Joe DiMaggios this evening. We hadn't made a reservation so we waited in the bar, it took over an hour but was no problem. We were taken to the smallest table in the resturant, it was in the path of all the waiters and was right next to a large party. I told the hostess we'd prefer to sit at a different table, she basically told us that was not possible. We sat down, mentioned it again to our server, he agreed the table was not ideal - even mentioned he wasn't sure why they placed it there. The manager came over, was very rude, unprofessional and told us we could leave if we were not happy with the table. My evening was completely ruined after this. I could not believe how we were being treated - this is supposed to be a fine dining resturant. From what I experienced it was anything but. I will not be going back and do not recommend it to anyone.

Pros: live music

Cons: service is terrible

.

Beautiful restaurant, average food, terrible management. The host does not know how to run a fine dining restaurant, he shouldn't even run a McDonalds in my opinion. He walks around the place not even stopping by tables asking patrons how the food is or the service is, NOTHING. The hostess' can't even hold a reservation. On two seperate occasions, after making reservations, they had not documented them into the reservations book. I shall not return until they get it right.

Pros: Beautiful restaurant

Cons: food & service

My husband and I dined with a couple of friends here recently and were very impressed with the atmosphere and look of the restaurant. The food was another story. We ordered a fried seafood appetizer which was very soggy and greasy. My main course was the seafood risotto which was bland and unimpressive. My dining companions all had steak, and they did comment that the steak cuts were all of a very good quality. I guess the constructed dishes just left a little to be desired. We will probably return, but I would never order the dishes I did the first time. Also, I noticed that there was over a 400% markup on the wine. I guess that's how they can afford the nice digs!

This is an amazing place to dine out at. My husband thought it was the best steak he has ever tasted and the shell pasta dish I had was amazing! Beautiful to sit in, attentive staff, great wine selection.
If there was one complaint, it would be that it is a little loud when its full and the live music is playing...however, it IS live music and it really makes the ambiance of the restaurant.
I can't imagine what the complaints are really for, this is our favorite place when we want to dress up and have a nice evening out.

Pros: Gorgeous, Excellent food and Service

Cons: Dont bring the kids

I read the other reviews and I have to say my wife and I had the opposite experience from the negative reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with our visit. We walked in were seated immediately, got our drinks, appetizer, and food promptly but evenly and well timed. The wait staff was attentive and in general did not seem lost or frazzeld. This is something we look for when we go out to dinner, including those places we revisit. It was not overly loud and the crowd had a good mix of people. One distraction was the little kids left to wander the dining room; this is not a place for children, PLEASE. Our food was very good. Excellent carpaccio, not like the mess some of the other restaurants in Austin try to serve. Good pasta and very good seafood.
Dining out is all about what one likes and finds appealing. What works for one is let down for others. We had a great experience. We hope when we return it will be just as good or better.

Cons: A little pricey

My wife and I have traveled the globe and have eaten at many fine restaurants and this one was a disappointment to say the least. The interior is very beautiful and in an excellent location. The staff is very inattentive and after our appetizer of mussels and glasses of wine our waiter forgot us for almost 30 minutes. We finally asked for the Manager and the waiter came over and blamed the computer for the problem. I really do not care about their computer but on the next course and a refill of my wine.
The manager came over and apologized and sent over some wine.
The food was fair to say the least and the wait staff kept coming over to bring us cold bread even after we told them that it was cold.
We will not return. Maybe for a drink at the bar!

We arrived a Joe's 30 minutes prior for our Reservation on a MONDAY night. All of the cocktail tables were taken so we quickly snatched a bar table as someone got up. We waited for 30 minutes at the table to be escorted to dinner. During that time the cocktail waitress told us "the bussers won't buss tables if people sit at them quickly" and never bussed the table or got our drink order. Very annoying. Got an average filet for $32.00 wait... add $2.00 bc they charged me for extra demi glaze. The wedge was a dissappointment, as was the souffle (rock hard). Overall steak was average. The service was better at Macaroni Grill. The servers were very Snobby at Joes..... Just because you work at a high end resturant does not mean you are high end.

My only beef with this restaurant is it's seemingly inability to turn away others for the sake of the already seated. The way I see it, those who are seated are already experiencing and are prepared to spend money if they aren't already. When the lounge gets so saturated that those standing around, often-times rowdy patrons, start ruining it for those in the main dining area, something needs to be done. Aside from that, everything else is on point. The service is there, the food is there and the ambience is spectacular. I would recommend anyone go there on a not-so-busy night.

Showed up and there was no room in valet parking-bad sign to begin with! Although we made reservations 2 weeks in advance, we ended up with seats right next to the kitchen! We went to see Pamela Hart sing and mentioned that in the online reservation also. They failed to address this when they sat us as she was out sick. We were only eating there to see her and would probably have left right away upon knowing that.

The wine list is difficult to read because it is poorly organized. Domestic wine list in the middle of the Italian regions which are not in alphabetical order. I expect the wine steward to come to my table if I am asking as many quesstions as we were. They want me to spend $75 and up for a bottle of wine-I'm not going to take advice from a novice waitress. Selection is poor-only 3 Merlots (after reading all the pages).

Service was lacking-Water got refilled once. Manager spent 1/2 of our meal cow towing to the table next to us where the patron was wearing a baseball cap!! Waitresses and waiters were more obsessed with making sure that all the meals were served simultaneously than folllowing up-like taking away dishes, asking if we need anything else.

Food was fine-just don't want to put up with all the rest. If I were paying Olive Garden prices, might go back. Otherwise, I would rather go to Bellagio or Siena than here if I am going to pay these prices. I can hear the conversation, enjoy the excellent food and not get run over the children upon leaving the restaurant at 10 pm! The Domain is missing the mark if they think upscale shoppers and diners want to find a kiddie playscape during their experience. I'll go to Reed's Jazz club to hear good music.

Cons: service & atmostphere

We arrived early on A Friday (5:00pm) and upon entering the massive doors the hostess asked if we were there for happy hour, upon answering No, and we were there for dinner. They seemed taken back someone was there early and upon seating seemed further taken back when we did not order the overpriced wine. Certain items are over priced on the menu, and the waiter.waitresses don't seem to take the time to explain what some of the Itilian dishes are? Me & my mother had the crab fritter's (3 for $12), followed by the Veal Marsala (3 very nice sized veal slices with great marsala sauce, mushrooms, etc leaned against a large portion of mashed potatoes, with spinach), and the spagetti with prawns & tomatoes (very good). Both meals were under $20 and very good. Our biggest issue was the waiter & our request for Ice water w/lemon for a beverage. At first he brough tiny glasses, and we had to make a second request which then got us larger glasses with some ice, never any lemon. Explanations, and attention are lacking at this restaurant.

I've been looking forward to eating at Joe's for months now, and I have to say that our experience was lacking on several fronts. Our food arrived cold, and my buddy's pork chop was rare and cold. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable, but the wait staff and kitchen could use a few more weeks of training.

I've been to Damien Mandola's Trattoria Lisina in Driftwood several times over the past few months, and I think it's the best Italian food around Austin. It's packed every weekend for dinner so the word must be getting out. Do yourself a favor and go check it out as you will not be disappointed. They also have a vineyard and offer very affordable wine compared to other restaurants in Austin.

The restaurant was very nice as was the service on the other hand the food was a disappointment the $39 filet had no taste and also had a brown sauce poured over top of it that made it even worse, the smaller filet was over cooked the potatoes were under cooked and one side was sent back twice and they still charged me a $2,00 upcharge for it and the second serving was as bad as the first. It was embarrassing as I had a client from out of town with me. Do not waist you time or money
