We are from Florida and were in town for the birth of my granddaughter. We chose Danton's at random and am I glad we did! I thought it was fantastic as did my wife. We had BBQ shrimp, delicious, messy, great for dipping the scrumptious

I've been attending Danton's Sunday Blues Brunches for the past few weeks listening to great master bluesmen practicing their craft over the best gumbo in the city. Their Courtbullion is one of the best I've ever had as well and we always finish off with their great bread pudding.\r
\r
In the evenings it's a quiet romantic place to have dinner with your sweetie as well.\r

If you're thinking about going to Danton's for some good seafood, I highly recommend it.

My husband and I attended the great Lamar High School 60th reunion celebration at Danton's. The buffet luncheon was delicious complete with gumbo, fried oysters, okra and tomatoes and bread pudding! Our thanks to Kyle and Danton!

My family and I just moved Houston and had been wanting to try some good seafood. Never having lived near water the idea of having fresh caught fish and oysters sounded too good to be true. A coworker recommended we try Dantons and said we should ask for Amanda, she is always their server and they love her personality and great service. After going all I could do was say THANK YOU to my friend. Both the restaurant and the service were unbelievable. The fish was so fresh and the way they grill it, that chef definately knows what he's doing ! And Amanda gave us service to remember, she was more than happy to answer all of our questions and even offered advice on some sites to see around town. We will definately be back and will pay it forward by spreading the word !

The best oysters in Houston. Monday nights, they are also the best deal in Houston as they slash prices in their oyster bar. So, yes, run, don't walk, if you are an oyster fan.

But the menu is so diverse, unique and soul-warming that it is often hard to choose. Our favorites include Kyle's Crab Salad (greens tossed with remoulade and bacon, then topped with big fat chunks of fresh lump crab and a cluster of skinny fried sweet potato strings); wood grilled fresh fish (available in 1/2 size orders!); the rich brothy gumbo roux (into which shrimp, crab and oysters are tossed to cook just prior to serving); and the crab and cheese stuffed jalapenos.

Whenever we visit, however, we are tortured by the non-seafood options, particularly the T-Wayne Boy sandwich (sliced pork sausage on french bread with red onion and creole mustard), the best sandwich around. Oh, and the debris.

Ordering is an impossible task made easier over a cold glass of chardonnay or a frosty martini, and the knowledge we can always come back next week and order what we missed today.

This is one of our very favorite places in Houston to dine.

I have been to Danton's three times now, and each time I've had an all around GREAT dining experience. The staff has always been friendly and attentive from the second I walk in the front door. The servers and bartenders are very knowledgable about the food and drinks, and are friendly, which is something I experience less and less these days. Our server last time, Tara, made our experience exceptional!! The food here is just divine. I haven't had anything I didn't like. And I LOVE Monday nights, because the Oyster Bar has half price oysters and pretty good happy hour prices!!!! This is a great place to take a group of friends or business associates. It is sure to impress.

I am a seafood fanatic and I must say that the dishes at Danton's are not just good, they are the best. I cant remember a time that I have been able to go out with my friends like this and have them all get something they really enjoyed. I always have that one friend that sends his dishes back and this time he didn't. Our waiter, Alex, was excellent, really first rate. The oyster bar is also another really nice feature to this restaurant. You can go in there and catch the big game while eating your favorite seafood.

Im a native of Houston and also a fresh and saltwater fisherman. I am very familiar with what fresh seafood is all about. I have eaten lunch and dinner at most all the seafood establishments in Houston and Galveston and I have to say Danton's has hooked my vote for the most fresh and traditionaly prepared seafood dishes.

Nothing pretentious about the food. Great biscuit, eggs, bacon, ham and grits. Catfish enchiladas awsome. Nothing on the Brunch was overcooked or dryed out. Attention to detail was most evident even in the preparation of the fried oysters, mmmm just the right breading and still moist inside with a briny flavor and the remoulade, oh man I could eat this on everything. Desserts again was top notch. The white chocolate bread pudding... let's just say someone had to have sold their soul to the devil for that recipe.

Ps: I plan to return to Danton's and try the Debris Poboy to see if it compares to the one at Mothers in New Orleans. I consider myself part of the GCC now!

We wanted to plan something very special for my Mother's 70th Birthday this year. She loves really great seafood which is hard to get where she lives. After hearing really great things from several people, I decided to take her to Danton's Gulf Coast Seafood Kitchen. We walked in about 7:00 pm and the place was very warm and inviting. The hostess greeted us with a lovely smile and sat us in a booth. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Everything on the menu made our mouth water. We couldn't decide on one appetizer, so we tried several. We had the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, which was all huge pieces of lump crab meat without a lot of filler. (Nowdays, it seems hard to find a crabcake that isn't really a cake.) It came with a delightful garlic remoulade sauce that was entirely homemade. We also tried the Crab Danton, which was amazing! We also ordered the shrimp cocktail which had serveral large shrimp that were perfectly chilled. For our entrees we had the Debris, which reminds me of wonderful southern comfort food. We also ordered the Oysters Kyle and the Baked Crab Balinese. We decided that both were winners, as we cleaned our plates! You know that we couldn't leave without dessert. We chose the Key Lime Pie, which you could taste the real key limes. My Mother chose the White Chocolate Bread Pudding, which she said reminder her of her Mother's receipe. When we left, she hugged me and said that it was the best birthday ever. She always talks about Danton's food, service, and atomosphere and how it made her feel special on her special day.

The owners are very personable and always visit our table. The gumbo is awsome as are the best sides ever created - okra & tomatoes and house rice - the absolute best. Anything Crab is also good - the crab cakes, the crab dip, etc. My husband loves seafood and his comment after our first visit was ""that is the best seafood I have ever had"". We visit on special occasions like birthdays, anniversary, and when family visits from out of town or when we get a craving for seafood ( which is often).

I grew up on the gulf coast eating shrimp all my life but stuffed shrimp has always been my favorite. Those old restaurants on the coast are long gone and many blown away in storms. I came to Houston and critically looked for my favorite stuffed shrimp. Well, I found it at DANTON'S seasoned perfectly just the way the old time restaurants prepared it. As for my wife, she loves stuffed flounder and their's is her favorite. We agree on something finally. We go back often to get our favorites. Thanks DANTON'S from Cypress.

Danton's has the best Louisiana seafood here in Houston. I love the oysters on the half shell and all of the appetizers are delicious. You must try the bar-b-que shrimp, use your bread to sop up the sauce. Sauteed crab fingers also very good. You won't be disappointed!

Danton's Seafood is located on Montrose Blvd and is a stand out among the other many restaurants in the ares.\r
I have been going here to eat since it opened a couple of years ago. Back then the menu was sparse and has since grown as they have perfected dishes. I appreciate that because nothing makes the menu until it is of high enough quality to make the menu.\r
Now to the good stuff. The gumbo is to die for-nice darkroux with a smoky flavor filled sith seafood. The marinated brab fingers are prepared in a wonderful spicy lemon onion mixture that makes you want to lick the dish. The classic creole-cajun dishes are excellent. to top it off the bread pudding has a beautiful custard pudding consistency rather than dry . I recently tried the sweet potato creme brulee'. It was simply heavenly.\r
The atmosphere and music are remeniscent of a comfortable down home blues joint . The servers are friendly and the owner Kyle will make his way around the dining room to ensure that your dining experience is superb. \r
This is the place for simple good down home seafood in a friendly atmosphere. Comfort for the soul!

Danton's provides a supreme seafood experience. Their fried oysters are so light, really cloudlike - but with a perfect crunch. NEVER overcooked or tough. No other establishment (even the seemingly more popular inner loop rseafood estaurants) can match the quality or taste of Danton's. Likewise, their Oysters Danton - yum. When going light, just order the Crab Kyle salad. with dressing on side. Real lump crabmeat, not bits & shreds. This is a restaurant not to be missed.

Danton's is one of my favorite placed to spend quality time with my daughter who races in from college and seems to only have time now for her friends. Whenever I ""dangle"" an invitation to lunch at Danton's... she's all in. The comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere is just the answer to the college student on a budget too.

The atmosphere is perfect and the food is outstanding! Since she joined their Gulf Coast email club, SHE now calls me to set a date to meet! Doesn't get much better than that. While the Gumbo is her favorite I've always preferred the fried oysters and seafood. Their Sunday Brunch is out of this world and I highly recommend it to everyone. Special times with special people! Yes, big props to the bread pudding. OMG, as my daughter would say. Insert that smiley face thing here too.

This is a must try restaurant in Houston! We are regulars at Danton's and when we ask ""where do you want to eat tonight?"" The resounding answer is Danton's. \r
\r
Why? Let's start with the jumbo lump crab appetizer -- simply the best in town, better than Brenners and Brennans. Danton's has a great menu, as well as a comprehensive specials menu which always include fresh catch prepared with savory toppings served in ample portions. \r
\r
Ask the waiter for a combination that you tailor among the menu favorites --- softshell crab, fried shrimp, and filet with a side of red beans and rice is our favorite. \r
\r
For non-fish dinners, the steaks are always good and I always order the cesar salad as part of our meal.\r
\r
Ask questions about the wide variety of wines and you'll no doubt find a new bottle perfectly suited to your meal.\r

So here's the scenario -- three grownup females slowly, deliberately, even painstakingly subdividing the glorious white chocolate bread pudding, pretending that there is no possible way that any one of them could have easily polished off the whole portion alone. What nonsense! It's just a little self-delusion we practice so that we can justify dessert at lunch.

I've been to Danton's three times and all on weekdays. The ambience is always soothing which is perfect for winding down after a day of work. The staff is very attentive and always have a smile on their faces. My favorites have been the gumbo, grilled catfish, and shrimp po-boy. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and that roux....let me tell you.... It is rich, thick, and full of flavor just like it should be.

By far exceeded my expecations! The restaurant is all about being local from the photos on the wall to the menu items. Our server was incredible and attentive. He made a few recommendations and made sure we were happy during our meal. I had the grilled snapper and it was truly amazing. It was extremely fresh and the seasoning really brought out the flavors. We also tried the Crab Danton which had large jumbo lumps of crab meat mixed in a remoulade sauce. DELICIOUS! I will be back for their Sunday Brunch when they bring in thier blues band. Highly recommend Danton's!

There are no Oysters Rockefeller or stuffed flounder on the menu, and their prices are too high. .........I'm glad we live in Seabrook. Seabrook, Kemah and Bacliff have much better seafood options.

I am new to Houston. I drove by this place and decided to try it out later that day. The staff immediately welcomed me. I sat at the bar to order take out and had the bartender (a transplant from New Orleans due to Katrina) and a waiter take my order. The couple sitting next to me were extremely friendly and introduced me to the owner who was very courteous. You could tell this was family run place who cared about it's patrons. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for some good creole food and great service.

We go to Danton's all the time and always have a Great experience. Sometimes we sit in the Oyster Bar where Brian and Lance take great care of us and sometimes we dine in the main dining room if we're feeling more private. The food is always great. We especially enjoy the dark roux gumbo and the best oysters on the half shell anywhere! For a special treat try the pecan crusted snapper or Mahi. Their White Chocolate Bread Pudding takes Bread pudding to another level. We've eaten at MANY seafood restaurants in town and around the world and this is our favorite.

My girlfriend and I were the first ones to walk into Danton's when they opened at 11am today. We have never been and decided to try something different from Pappa's Seafood House, a place we love. We were greeted and seated by the busser, after standing inside the front door for about 2 minutes. Long story short, our waitress didnt greet us with a smile and barely attended our table. The busser brought us the drinks and entrees. It took a long time to get our waitress' attention to get ketchup and cocktail sauce and she didnt even come by after the entrees were served to asked how things were.

We ordered 2 crab bisques(not exactly the way we fancy but was okay with tabasco and crackers), the grilled Halibut with mixed veggies and dirty rice(the fish was EXCELLENT along with the sides), and the stuffed shrimp with dirty rice and onion rings(the shrimp was okay, with tabasco).

I regret not getting the names of the awesome busser and the terrible waitress. We did however make it a point to pay our 20% tip directly to the busser and give the waitress nothing.

I have been to Danton's several times. I love the menu and the daily specials are always intriguing. Everything I have had has been cooked to perfection. I am pretty picky about my seafood and as a cajun I'm pretty critical. The food is phenomenal. The garlic remoulade sauce is a good enough reason to go alone! A lot of people have been saying that it's closed on Sunday but i have been a couple times to their Sunday Blues Brunch! You don't want to miss it! The music is fantastic with one of te most diverse and pleasing brunch buffets I have ever had... I highly recommend checking it out!

My husband and I had been at a festival all afternoon and were wanting good seafood. Danton's was recommended by a friend. We were not dressed fancy but decided to go anyway. We were seated in the bar area at a table. Since we had a glass of wine at the festival, and had been in the sun, we were parched and just wanted water. The bartender/waitress kept trying to push cocktails on us, but we insisted we just wanted water. The server whispered to the manager something and he began eyeballing us. We noticed this, so of course looked at him back. He came by to ask if we needed something, but this just made us more uncomfortable. We were trying to have a relaxing dinner after a long day. I figured since we were dressed very casually they thought we were going to ditch out tab. My fish plate with crab was soaked in butter and bland. My husband's steak was overcooked. The server continually asked if we wanted anything besides water, while she smaked her gum at our table, and was playing with her hair behind the bar. I honestly expected a more professional atmosphere since the recommendation was from a friend in the industry, but will never return. We should have just gone to Trulucks.

This week we visited this place. First thing I noticed was a 16 ft aluminum ladder laying on the sidewalk up next to the front door....WHY..??? . we walked in, & got seated by a nice hostess and was promptly greeted by waitress...very pleasant....ordered our drinks...fast service...\r
\r
The atmosphere is too bright....too many white walls... Not cozzy, you can see the workers in the kitchen though a open door big enough to drive a car through....food came rather quickly....good, but not great...womens restroom not as clean as it should have been......dessert was ok....\r
\r
We will wait to go back for a while. Hopefully it will improve.

I LOVE seafood & eat it quite often, however, I'm not sure if I will be eating it at Danton's again anytime soon. Last night, I made my first visit to this establishment only to be very disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed a framed newspaper article behind the hostess stand that stated something to the effect of ""Danton's has some kinks, but it's seafood sings"". ""Kinks"" = understatement.\r
\r
We were seated by our very polite hostess & began looking over the menu. After making our wine & dinner selections, we sat looking around for whomever would be our waiter for the evening. *10* minutes later, when no one had arrived & we felt we had been forgotten, a gentleman who was helping the hostess prep a table for a large party noticed we were staring at him & approached our table. As soon as he found out we had not been taken care of, he took our wine order & a waitress promptly arrived. She was obviously not in a good mood; lacking any portrayal of someone who actually wanted to be there serving guests. During the wait for our entrees, we re-filled our own wine glasses, ate semi-decent bisque (good flavor but tasted more like over-darkened roux mixed in with regular bisque), & watched as other patrons were brought baskets of crackers to tide them over (we didn't get any). When our food arrived, it looked great... however, the snapper menuire (while cooked to perfection) really lacked flavor and was in dire need of some salt. Additionally, the lump crab topping tasted as though it had been cooked in not-so-fresh water. My friend had asked for his filet mignon to be cooked medium, but it was *very* medium rare. Following dinner, our waitress brought us our ticket without offering to serve any dessert at all. Needless to say, we decided to end our evening at Dantons at that point. \r
\r
I went ahead and gave them 3 stars because I can tell the owners really are trying. However, service **really** stinks, and (our) food was *not* tasty.

My husband and I have gone to Danton's a number of times for Happy Hour. We have always enjoyed the service in the oyster bar as well as the oysters, shrimp and gumbo. Last night we had dinner in the dining room at Danton's for the first time. The service was very good and our waiter very attentive. Unfortunately there was some confusion with our appetizer, the Oysters Kyle. Our entrees were served to us before the appetizer portion of Oysters Kyle that we ordered. As it turned out, another table had been served our Oysters Kyle. The waiter quickly apologized for the mistake and brought our appetizer but again, it was after our entrees were served. We wanted to sample a few things from Danton's extensive dinner menu so we shared the gulf coast seafood combo platter of grilled scallops and fried catfish with red beans and rice. We also ordered the gumbo and half an oyster Po' Boy. The scallops had a very strange taste, not as though they were wood fired as the menu indicated. My husband agreed that the scallops did not have a pleasant taste. The catfish was crispy and tasty as you would expect. The best part of the meal was the Po' Boy. It was loaded with oysters so much that is was difficult to contain them in the crusty delicious french bread. As usual, the gumbo had a very dark roux and was loaded with shrimp, oysters and crab. You can never go wrong with the gumbo at Danton's. It's consistently delicious. We agreed we would go back for the gumbo, Po' Boy and Oysters Kyle, but the remainder of our meal was average.

Delicious stuff shrimp, who would have thought just typing my mouth would water. My family goes in quite frequently, however being at school out of state I don't get to the join them. I have talked to my mom recently and all I can ask for is to make sure they make a reservation to come in while I'm home for Thanksgiving break. I crave stuffed shrimp and crab burgers. I truly miss Danton's warm and friendly environment. If you get a chance go in. You will not regret it! ALSO TRY THE PEANUT BUTTER PIE! I hear that Danton makes it for his Goddaughter for her Birthdays, Christmas and other holidays. It is super GREAT!

I love seafood and prepare most myself just because usually restaurants are not as good as what I can do in my own kitchen. But, Danton's is the exception and hands down the best Gulf Coast seafood in town for two reasons: Simple, tasteful recipes and very fresh fish and ingredients. Debris sandwich brings a great New Orleans flavor to the menu along with the BBQ shrimp. Everything from the appetizers to the desserts are top notch.

I have never written a review on CitySearch....always a little suspect of who is doing the writing...is it a competitor trying to knock the competition...is it a friend or family member of the owner trying to build it up? I have had my doubts. That said - I feel completely compelled to write about our fabulous fabulous meal at Danton's. EVERYTHING was amazing....tasted down to earth....attention to subtle details. Sort of a southern seafood rather than overly cajun. \r
\r
Appetizers. We had stuffed jalapenos - perfect. Crabcakes - very good. Boil Shrimp - I personally didn't have one but everyone said they were great. My favorite (my sister lived in New Orleans so I knew what to expect....) BBQ'd Shrimp - wonderful! \r
\r
My husband had the stuffed shrimp - he said the best he has ever had. I had the grilled red fish topped with a mixture of fresh crab/cut-from-the-cob corn/tomatoes their special rice topped with green onions and pecans. Also a side of stewed okra and tomatoes. Loved it all but brought most of it home as I was stuffed with bbq'd shrimp. Others in our party raved about their meal throughout the entire dinner. \r
\r
Dessert was a peanut butter pie and a key lime pie - both fantastic. My personal favorite was the pecan ball with hot fudge. Service was great - tea glasses filled promptly - attentive to the table in general. \r

I had lunch at Danton's this week. I can get pretty jaded about another seafood restaurant. Being 58 I have eaten in more than a few seafood restaurants. I was served one dozen oysters to start. They were chilled to almost icey. It added to the taste of ""freshness"" and was an oustanding start. My next surprise was being offered oyster stew. I do not remember the last time a menu offered this dish. It was full of oysters(Galveston Bay) and was easily as good and maybe a better stew than I have ever had. After finishing the stew I begin to realize I was possibily going to have one of those dining experiences you always hope for but seldom get.\r
From there I ordered stuffed flounder with a crab meat topping. It had a stuffing that was freshly made and definely was not an ""after thought"" but had the taste of a chef who knew what good stuffing tasted like. The amount of crab meat made you think someone use a big laddle to pile the crab on the fish. (Very generous)The fish had a slight taste of a spice that had been lightly shaken on top of the flounder. It gave the fish a very small ""bite"" that was a nice touch. I really tried to finish it but I could not as it was such a large serving. The side dish choices had to number at least 10 or more including a soup/stew of tomatoes and fresh okra. With the flounder I ordered candied yams. The yams were served like mashed potatoes and were very smooth and creamy. \r
I'm trying to understand why this particular restaurant had made for an unforgetable dining experience. My best guess is this is a restaurant where the owners from the very beginning decided to have food that was cooked the way they wanted it to taste. Everything seemed to be cooked from ""scratch"" with obsessive attention to everything done their way. I could find no area where they compromised. How often to you experience ""excellence"" in any area of your life? Nice decor and good service was evident. This restaurant was EXCELLENT!\r

i live around the corner from the chelsea market, so naturally, when i saw that danton's had moved in, i was overjoyed. since its inception, i have been countless times, and have ALWAYS had great service, exceptional food, and a wonderful time. the people take the time to learn your name and really care about how you are doing and what's going on in your life. i love it there, and i pray every night that danton's becomes a permanent fixture on montrose. it's about time.

Howdy Danton's!.. Gotta say Danton's has become a staple for us about once a week over the last few months. We sit in the oyster bar - haven't made it into the dining room yet. We love the service (saludos Fallon!) and always give our compliments to the chef.

Tucked away in Houston's museum district Danton's is always very good for lunch or dinner. Seems to be a place one can always count on for good to delicious food.
This evaluation is arrived at after several months of meals there periodically. My spouse believes they serve the best fried shrimp in Houston. The oyster stew can go head to head with the best from Maine. A place where you can have a private conversation over a meal and not be bothered. Don't really have to ponder where to go and always eat terrific seafood. 5 Stars for sure.

Where to start on Danton's Gulf Coast Seafood Kitchen? The atmosphere? Dark rich hardwoods and a delightful wait staff set the perfect mood. The oysters? Fresh, delicious, juicy, rich, flavorful... the list goes on and on. The gumbo? Simply put, the most divine Cajun treat I have tasted since leaving my native Louisiana five years ago. As an entree, my husband and I shared the stuffed flounder and the oysters Kyle. Both were wonderfully fresh, the flounder accompanied by whipped yams and sauteed vegetables and the oysters by ample garlic bread to mop up every last drop of delicious garlic butter. And when the check came, my husband almost fell out of his chair! The meal was so reasonably priced, we were sure there must have been some mistake. Following that initial experience, we have made it a tradition to cap off each week with a meal at this fine establishment. One word: exquisite.

I like the food served at Dantons Gulf Coast Seafood Kitchen. However, I would like to see more options, especially non-fried seafood. Maybe more soups as well. The seafood is clean and fresh, but it could be nice if it is not only fried food.

I've been here 3 times total, and most of the stuff we've had has been really good. Have had oysters (both on the half shell and the Oysters Kyle, I think they call their special), shrimp creole, crawfish, and many sides. All were good. The gumbo is okay, but I think there are a lot of variations of gumbo and everyone has their own spin on it. I think the only thing they could improve on is their dessert menu, which seems a bit limited.
