Mattito's is a great lunch treat and people place

by Tim H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,179

I worked across the street for the past 3 years and for lunch I ate combo fajitas a couple of dozen times and Tex-Mex combo platter a dozen or so times. The tasty fajitas came on a huge platter and were usually very good but sometimes the beef would be tough- chicken was consistently good. Accompanying guacamole & pico de gallo were excellent. Oversized enchiladas on generous combo platter were well stuffed but somewhat bland, still good though. Rice and beans were tasty but a bit greasy. Hot sauce was some of the best I've had and chips were crisp but not overcooked. Interior is funky but cool with lots of atmosphere and several unique rooms. Gets crowded for lunch- best to arrive before 11:45 or plan on waiting some. Service is usually very good. Sometimes food is slow coming out of the kitchen- especially if you're in a large group. Interior is great place for people watching. Outdoor patio is small and intimate, shaded by arbor, but looks onto parking lot. Lunch specials very reasonable price. I like the place, a few at my company did not, but most did.

Mattito's TexMex Cocina is a good all around Mexican restaurant

by Craig D. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,133

Sometimes I forget about Mattitos. It is decent Mexican food. Really decent all the way around. I have a couple friends where it is their favorite Mexican restaurant but even though I think it is decent to good all the way around, it is hard to give it an overly glowing review with all the other great Mexican restaurants around. They do have a front room that you can reseve for a party which is nice and probably seats 30 people or so and has its own patio.

Mattito's TexMex - Dallas needs to better train employees and manager!

by Marisa G.

Enjoyed the brunch but HATED the service! We (party of 10) never knew exactly who our waiter was. A waiter never introduced himself to explain the brunch or if we needed separate tickets, etc. It was my first time there and I was a little lost. A different person came to bring or refill our drinks. We had to ask employees passing by to retrieve our dirty plates. One of my friends did not eat but had a couple of mimosas and they charged her for the brunch anyway! The manager would not budge, they (I guess all those that would come to refill) claimed that she drank 4 mimosas so they gave her the choice of paying for 4 mimosas at $6 each or pay for a brunch ($16.99) even though she did not eat! I didn't think that was fair! Fair would have been to charge her for her 2 mimosas only! Shouldn't the customer always be right? Especially, if the customer is an honest customer? I'm very disappointed in the service and in the manager!

Fun Place to hang out and drink

by Jenny S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,801

I love to meet my friends here after work! The waiters are super nice and the margaritas which are priced responable (won't break your bank!) pack a punch. The setting is casual and patio is perfect at night to sit and gossip with your friends!

Greasy Regular Tex Mex

by Lisa G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,454

There are much better mexican food restaurants close by. The food is regular tex-mex fare with a greasy twist. Chips are good; hot sauce unremarkable.

Great Mexican Food

by Tim B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,104

This is another great restaurant run by Matt Martinez. The food is traditional tex mex, and the Smoked Bob appetizer is great. Its queso with chopped, smoked brisket mixed in. Great margaritas. It is modestly prices, but the portions are huge. Dinner is $15 per plate before tip and drinks. It has a very fun atmosphere.

Best mexican restaurant !

by wendyyork1

Ok people, this dallas mexican restaurant is the only patio I know in DALLAS THAT DOES NOT FACE A STREET, HAS FANTASTIC MEXICAN FOOD AND GREAT HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS. The brunch at this tex-mex/ Mexican restaurant is amazing as well. If you are on my face book and reading this, you can call me anytime and I will go to this dallas restaurant ANY time. Great service, great food and great fun.

Pros: Love the brunch

Cons: not a one

NOT AT ALL FRIENDLY

by BG1970

Rude wait staff, ruder management. Asked for a table to accommodate a friend in a wheel chair and it turned into a huge argument with the staff and manager. Incredible!

Might have been worth the hassle if the food was good enough, but with the plethora of GREAT tex-mex in this city, why put up with attitude, especially if you or one of your party are disabled.

Saturday lunch specials!

by Bettieo

Great patio! I went to Mattito?s Tex- Mex in Uptown yesterday for a snack and cold drink while the Uptown Festival was going on. What an oasis! On a Saturday around 3pm, it is not too crowded, and the patio have fantastic vines sheltering you from the Texas sun and the birds are chirping. The service was excellent, the ice tea fresh, the cips warm and fresh and the margarita strong. We were offered the daily lunch specials on a SATURDAY! This alone I would come back for. This is the first cost saving Saturday lunch location I have ever been to! I love the waiter that was gracious enough to point out the lunch specials and help us all with the tightening of the belt while still enjoying the treat of fantastic Mexican food that we could not possibly make better at home. Their Brunch is fantastic which everybody knows about, but I strongly recommend you try a off time and day for your own taste of a Mexican oasis right here in Uptown.

Pros: A mexican oasis on the patio!

Cons: not a one!

Fantastic Tex-Mex in Dallas AND now Frisco!

by celebrate123

Wowee! We went to the Frisco location AND the Dallas Location in the past week for Fajitas in Frisco and Brunch in Dallas and both were superb! I LOVE Mattito?s! The tortillas were fresh, the salsa homemade, the service excellent and the atmosphere exceptional. I have lived in Dallas only for 5 years and must say for this area the quality and price point is far above most of the tex-mex out there. Give them a try I think you will find THIS companies TEX-MEX an eye opener on what it should taste like 

Pros: Great food , value and service

Cons: the dallas one is a little hard to find, so map the road

There are better places

by chiptoast

I went with a large group and we had an awful experience. Their drinks weren't great. The food wasn't all that good. Our waitress was beyond awful. When people tried to order a regular margarita she would say well you could get a bad margarita like you want or you can get a top shelf good one. Then they refused to split up our check of 14 people. The staff stated if you don't request seperate checks before you order, they can not split them. It seemed obvious that 14 women would be on seperate checks or perhaps the staff could ask if it was seperate. Their swirl margaritas have raspberry in it and it makes the drink very sweet and intolerable. In a city with so many different choices for Mexican food, I would suggest you look somewhere else.

Pros: parking

Cons: food, service, drinks

Bland + overcooked + rubbery meat + sloppy plates = DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER

by FoodnDallas

I was HIGHLY disappointed in this restaurant's food. I'm very familiar with this kind of food, but this place let me down. Matitos had been recommended to me by numerous people, but when we went and I ordered the light fajitas (that come with broccoli and cauliflower instead of onions and green peppers) the fajita steak was overcooked and the whole meal was bland. The fajita meat and broccoli tasted more like Chinese food beef and broccoli than anything Tex-Mex. The meat was rubbery and borderline inedible. I came into the restaurant very hungry, but the food was so bad that I couldn't even eat 1/3 of my meal. The most "seasoning" that was on my plate was spicy jalapeno in my pico de gallo (I like spicy food, but that's all there was to the meal!). My boyfriend got tacos, which were under-seasoned and bland as well. His refried beans tasted worse than "El Paso" canned beans. He remarked, "This tastes like cafeteria food" which was right on the money. However, the service was very good, and our waiter was nice and helpful. The margaritas are also very good. When I told the waiter about my disappointment with my meal when he asked how everything was, he took it off of the check when I didn't even ask him to, which I thought was appropriate. Overall, I would commend this restaurant on its service and lively atmosphere, but if you want a good meal, you're better off going somewhere else.

Pros: Good service

Cons: NASTY food

Best Brunch

by mamawrock

I had a very small wedding and had the reception during brunch and just rented out the patio. This was the most amazing brunch I could of ever imagined and all my guests were very happy and impressed. This is hands down the best place to go for brunch in Dallas while still being a pretty un-pretentious. My suggestion is to go when they open to get better and faster service.

Pros: Great food and atmosphere,

Cons: Don't expect anything to happen fast, tons of people

The most AMAZING Brunch I have ever been to! EVER!

by wendyyork

This is a must go! First I have to say that this is the freshest, most flavorful brunch I have ever been to. I generally do not go to buffets, so take this endorsement to heart. I am a foodie!!!! I started with Two Chicken Jalapeno and Two Pork Tamales with Tomatillo and Chile Con Carne sauces. I then moved to a combo of BEEF and CHICKEN FAJITAS with Grilled with onions and sweet peppers, they were so moist and tender it was a mouth watering bite! Then I went a little crazy?.They had enchiladas, that were perfectly seasoned, huge platters of fruit and cheeses , a OMLETT BAR with a omelet chef cooking them to order, the taquitos were constantly being filled because they were so crispy and tasty they were flying off the banquet table, the food went on and on?.. as I sat in this unique and festive atmosphere of lush patios and fountains in a ranch-like setting it contributed to the enjoyment I had people watching as I feasted while the very attentive wait staff kept my glasses of champagne and tea full as I waited for my brunch to settle for the BEST part?. THE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN!!!! YES A CHOCOLATE fountain that a gal dips and drenches big fresh strawberries, sweet pineapple and other delectable fruits of the season. Finished off with a steaming cup of coffee, I now know why they have received so many awards, from so many people and have opened another banquet facility room across the parking lot to accommodate the many many wedding parties and family or company functions and celebrations they host throughout the year! My hat off to you and TEN stars if they had that many on this page, they would all be yours!

Pros: The VERY best Brunch in the Metroplex!!!!!!!!!!

Cons: none! Not one bad thing... really!

Chile relleno

When I was there last week, the beef chile relleno had a nice crispy crust -- at least around the edges. When this dish is good here, it is really good

The Best Mexican food in Dallas.

by ijones

This is some good eating. The quality of the food is superb and the Margaritas are the best. Menu selection is large and everything I?ve had has been excellent. They tend to get busy in the evenings and you may have to wait in line, but it?ll be worth it.

I luv this place!

by jerbizzel

Great food and atmosphere but what really sets Mattitos apart from the others is the service. Go to the bar before you sit and talk to the bartenders. They will remember you the next time you come in and treat you like family. Margaritas and Fajitas are the way to go but there are many other great TexMex options to choose from.

Rumba's & Bob dip !

by jclsbc

This is what all the other Mexian restaurants aspire to be. The bob armstrong dip is a layered queso that is not on the menu but is truly legendary. You have to ask the waiter to get it. The margaritas are tremendous and the Rumbaritas (limit two) are way to much fun . My favorites the baja shrimp and avocado enchiladas are outstanding. The restaurant is in a cool old home and you feel like your on vacation.

by jilfree

Don't know what Bob Armstrong is? Well you'll just have to go to Mattitos and find out. Fun atmosphere, great food. Usually pretty busy so plan some time to relax, sip on a margarita and munch on some Bob Armstrong. Well worth your time!

Pros: Great food & Fun atmosphere

Cons: Almost have to valet but pretty prompt in getting you in and out.

Best authentic Mexican in Dallas

by cheers2norm

Sunday brunch is AMAZING - free mimosas and great food! The Bob Armstrong Dip has taken on a legendary status - they keep it off the menu which adds to the allure - but anyone who has been there more than once knows about it and orders it! The bacon-wrapped shrimp are he best thing on the menu and bext mexican dish I've had anywhere!

Pros: autentic mexican, great queso dip

Cons: parking can be challenging

Don't miss out! Great food, margaritas and service for a great price!

by jstevenson

I love this place! We had the best time. The food is great with a wide variety to choose from made it hard decide. They have a dish called baja shrimp that will make me come back again and again. We brought the kids and the menu was served on an etch a sketch! It kept them busy and we were able to enjoy our dinner out. The margaritas are great, taste good and very reasonably priced. It was nice to enjoy a drink I wasn't paying $8.00 or more for! The waiter told me about a Sunday brunch tht offers complimentaty mimosas and champagne with tons of food and even a chocolate fountain. I will definetly be back.

Pros: You get a great deal for a great price. Complimentary valet parking is great for downtown area

Cons: wish they had a larger patio

So tasty.

by jpanderson_citysearch

Ask for the Bob Armstrong dip, a big bowlful of salsa, sour cream, queso, ground beef and guacamole all mixed together. Not on the menu. Heaven with a basket of chips--but you won't have any room left over for dinner!
