Otra Vez Conture Consignment

Ever been into a resale shop? Well if you haven't but you've wanted to give it a try then here' s the place to start! A year ago with the holiday season upon me, I would have been gathering a handful of dresses for impending charity events, parties, etc from Neiman Marcus, Julian Gold, Ann Taylor and the like. One year, and the beginning of a recession later (yes, that's debatable!) I'm trying to be just a LITTLE bit smarter, as many are, with my money. I thought I'd scout out a few resale shops. I tried two before coming here and, to be fair, I won't name them because everyone has their bad days, but the overall feeling I got when I walked in was that nobody cared whether I bought something and left . . . . or just left. Disappointing. Maybe the mental picture I had of a "resale shop" was setting each place up to fail (I always thought of one of those little boutiques you see in the movies that you can walk right up to and right on in. . . .you know what I'm talking about!) Not feeling up for the old "three strikes and your'e out" routine, I had all but written resale shops off when I remembered a friend of mine had told me about a shop that she found some really great stuff at in the Olmos/San Pedro area. Hello! THAT'S in my neighborhood! I think it was fate because I was headed home to email her and ask for the location when I passed it up on Olmos across the street from the newly relocated Olmos Part Antiques and Art (another FUN shop but that's another review!). It's a pity the windows aren't a bit closer to the street because the outfits in them were almost all to DIE for and had I seen it sooner I would have gone in whether I was in penny pinching mode or not! What I found made my day and I say that as sincerely as I say that I am watching my money this year (I don't joke about money!). I found brands that I didn't even think were SOLD in San Antonio. Sharagano and Naeem Khan (wow!) and others like Escada (recent AND vintage - what a plus!), Rena Lange, Carlisle, Worth, Tahari, Dana Buchman, Talbots, Ann Taylor, Juiicy Couture. There are so many I'm sure I'm not naming but these were all big hits in my book. They had "Formal","Day Job", "Casual" and "Weekend" attire for just about every age - oh and Ferragamo! I was surrounded! I was told that a Ferragamo purse had just SOLD, too - rats! But it's motivation to go back. You'll be greeted immediately and then left to browse in a low pressure and very pleasant environment. Jeans, Jewelry, Scarves, Shoes, Dresses and Purses - OH MY. . . I was in heaven! I did not have the pleasure of meeting the owner but the recommendation that I try the shop came from a friend who had and said she's about the nicest gal you could ever meet. The only con I see here is that if she's nicer than the girlie I met when I went in, it may give someone a toothache - small price to pay for what you'll find, though! Oh and guess what. . . you CAN walk to this place. If there were only a little coffee shop next door , now. . . . She Did mention that Le Cake was opening back up a few doors down. . . .maybe we can talk them into it?

Bottom line - GO!! You'll LOVE it!
