Finding someone not just willing but eager to do a perm these days is rare. My stylist, Tee, was surprised and excited to do one. She loves her job, put simply. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and offered a choice of beverage. The man that shampooed my hair was friendly. This salon has the most comfortable sinks!
The nail techs are really friendly. Beautiful job on my mani/pedi. The massage chairs are much better than most salons and the complimentary wine is a nice touch too. Sunny did my up do. She nailed it. No picture was necessary and she new exactly what to do . Beautiful job. She was super friendly too.
The owner and his girlfriend are incredibly sweet and appreciative of your business, so they cater to your every need. From the outside, the salon/spa seems small, but it's actually rather spacious, holding areas for hair, nails and back rooms for facials, waxing and massages.
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place! I first went to Midtown Salon about 6 months ago and was looking for a great cut and highlights. I also needed a salon that helps clients who have trichotillomania (a hair pulling disorder). At first, I emailed them and got ahold of the manager, Tee. She was very nice and professional about helping me and made sure that when I got there I felt comfortable. When I finally arrived, I met her and a stylist named Victor who cut and highlighted my hair. Not only did I feel 100% comfortable, but Victor also made me look like a million bucks!
I recently moved to downtown Houston and was looking for a place to get a Brazilian wax. I tried a spa that wasn't too far from me and was appalled. They attempted to "double dip" in to the wax and it just made my skin crawl. I left immediately and decided to conduct a more thorough research before trying it again. I came across Midtown Retreat Salon and Day Spa and was pretty impressed by the reviews. I decided to make an appointment for the next day and was very well pleased with my visit. Their hospitality was awesome and most of all, my girl Tee hooked me up. She was very sanitary and eased me through the waxing process. I enjoyed my experience so that a couple of weeks later I made an appointment for a facial, massage, and a pedicure! I highly recommend this establishment.
I love Chantil! I'm really picky about my hair and Chantil gets it right every time. She makes it easy to make appointments so I'm never late getting my hair colored and for me, that's a big deal. And when she does my color, no one can tell I've just had it done, that's how good she is. I have auburn/red hair, which can be really tricky to do, but Chantil always does a terrific job. People stop me all the time asking if it's my natural color and as much as I wish I could say it is, I always have to give credit to my great hair stylist! She's the best!
I bought a Serenity Package for $100 which included a 50 minutes massage and an 1 hour manicure & pedicure as a birthday gift to myself because it was such a good deal. I had my massage with Lindsy, she was wonderful! My mani-pedi was so relaxing in the super comfortable chair. The staff at Midtown Retreat were so nice and accommodating. Thanks girls! I will definitely buy this package for my best friend on her next birthday.
I am new to midtown and searching for a new salon. After reading few the reviews, something just doesn't click me about this place. Most of the reviews here don't seem to have a strong background. For example, even the owner reponsed to a review by giving himself 5 stars ???? This place has some good reviews but just doesn't work for me.
I went to Midtown Retreat Salon & Day Spa
to try a gel manicure. I had heard so much about them lasting and had to be the judge of this miracle mani. I had been there once before for a reguar mani with Inga--awesome job--so I went back; however, this time the experience was, ummm questionable. The manicurist was Elizabeth--super nice--but not too experienced with applying the gel lacquer. She did an decent job, but I left somewhat unsure of the "look".
But when I got home, I realized that the application was a little messy, and I was unhappy. I don't usually complain, but I called to express my concern about my less than perfect mani, and they told me, "COME BACK! We will fix it if not today, whenever you can!" Needless to say I went back, and they were apologetic, and they fixed my mani. The woman, I didn't catch her name, that fixed me up was so patient and even made sure I was absolutely happy with the color. She told me not to hesitate to come back if I have problems. I left this time very pleased!
I will be back!!!!

I went to this spa on my birthday because of all the good reviews on Citysearch. Unfortunately, I was completely disappointed with the services and I do not think that the "spa services" in any way resemble going to a real day spa, where the services are much more professional and worth your time/money.
Firstly, everyone that I dealt with that worked there seemed to just hate their jobs. The women who was giving me a "facial" was rude and had an attitude. The facial was painful and she didn't clear up my skin. What a waste of money. I could have put on a mint julep mask at home and came out looking better! Moreover, the products she used gave me acne. When using the electricity to close my pores, she practically electrocuted my face and it was really uncomfortable. This has not happened with this procedure in the past. I was disappointed the most with the facial.
Secondly, the massage was alright...nothing to write an amazing review about. Told her the pressure was too hard at one point and it didn't really change thereafter.
The woman doing my nails seemed to really hate her job. They came out alright, but I could have gotten the same mani/pedi with friendlier people for half the price.
All in all, it seemed like I was just another client they had to get in and get out. If you desire any kind of special attention or friendliness of staff, I wouldn't decide to go to this place. If you rarely go to spas, I would suggest spending the extra $100 or so to go to a real/ professional one...because you will be disappointed at what a waste of money the midtown retreat salon & day spa is.
Having just moved to Midtown, I was looking for a good stylist. I just so happened to walk into Midtown Retreat and asked the person sitting there who she would recommend for my type of hair. She said she could do it and the rest is history...I LOVED her hair, so I knew she would do a good job. Chantil has been doing my hair ever since and I've never been disappointed with anything she's done...from haircolor, highlights, cut, styling and even extensions, she rocks!! Her upbeat personality and professionalism are top-notch making her someone I would recommend anyone to. If you are picky and want somone who knows what they're doing, call Chantil. Everytime I walk out of there, I feel and look like a million bucks!!! She knows her stuff :)
Only having one person my entire adulthood cut my hair I was skeptical about making a change. When i went to Midtown Retreat everyone was very welcoming. my stylist was Chantil and she did a wonderful job! she did exactly what i asked for and I'm happy to say I was VERY PLEASED with my haircut and service! i have found my new home and new stylist and I'm very happy and have been recommending all my friends to her! She has a great personality and that always makes the haircut and blow dry go by fast. She's wonderful if you are a girl that is very picky I'd most definitely consider chantil!
I needed a new stylist since moving here from san fran. Keep in mind, i've been going to the same person that did my hair for years in Ca. So trying a new stylist is scary for me! I went in to get a manicure and pedicure done first (so i can scope out the place) and while getting my manicure i was checking out the stylists there. there was a girl cutting hair and notice she was doing a very cute, trendy style! So after i left i book with her! When i came in for my appointment, my stylist Sunny greet me and was very nice. She listened to my problemed hair and suggested a different look. So, i thought well, lets try it and see. well, it turned out really cute! I love my cut!! its been 5 weeks and my cut still styles nicely! I have a color appointment with her in 4 weeks and i can't wait! I found my TX stylist now! yay!
Chantil simply gives an awesome haircut. She is attentive to detail, never rushes, remembers likes/dislikes, and is very friendly and easy-going. Highly recommend Chantil at Midtown Retreat.
Thank you Chantil for giving me a new look. Everyone really like the new hair style. I would recommend my family and friends to Midtown Retreat.
"I have experienced several massages w/ Rebecca and always leave feeling so much lighter! I've had several yrs of pain w/my shoulders and the knots I get in them. Rebecca always loosens the tightness I struggle with dalily and works out several of the knots. She also can give an excellent relaxing massage. Whether you need to relax or have tension & stubborn knots worked out, she is the one, out of several therapists, that I've tried, who can help ease my pain & help me to relax at the same time! I have recommended her to several people!" -J Neale
"She's very intuitive; Rebecca knows just what's going on with you body when she touches you. I used to get just an hour with her until she talked me into trying an hour and a half. I will never go back to just one hour. She rhythym and pressue feels soo good and she doesn't miss one inch of your body. Her massages are almost a spiritual release. Best massage therapist I've ever been too!" - L Perrault
Rebecca is the newest addition to Midtown Retreat. She's a Massage Therapist and Esthetician; come in and let her gentle strong hands work magic with your skin and muscles!
Pros: Great pressure - Deep Tissue!, Beautiful Facility, Friendly
Cons: none?
My husband gave me a day at the spa for Christmas - wonderful gift for this working mom : ) Since, I have had my first waxing and now this evening, my second massage! Courtney did a wonderful job! I am still new to massages and it still takes me outside my comfort zone, but she put me completely at ease AND did a magnificent job! I told her firm and she delivered! THANK YOU Courtney and Midtown for helping this mom rElax!!!!!! See you soon! xoxo
Pros: Professional, relaxing, comfortable...
Cons: NONE!
I went for a facial and it was a poor experience! The aesthetician was not friendly, not gentle with my skin and did not ask me anything about my skin or what I was looking for before she began. The thing that irritated me the most was that she left the room SEVERAL times for up to 10 minutes. Extremely Unprofessional! Once she had the steam on my face and after several minutes I my face was hot and sweating and i asked her to turn it down, only to realize that she wasn't in the room. Any other time I've had a facial, if they are letting a mask sit on your face or letting the steam work, they atleast rub your shoulders or something during that time. The fact that she left the room repeatedly to do who knows what, was poor service. And when I went to pay, the price was higher than what was quoted on their website. When I asked the girl at the front desk about this, she said that price was probably for Men. What?!? DO NOT GO HERE FOR A FACIAL! I WILL NEVER GO BACK FOR ANY KIND OF SERVICE.
Pros: location
Cons: staff, quality of service
I love this place. They make me feel like a queen.
Chantel THANK YOU! You are the best stylist ever.
Pros: Best of Everything
Cons: Next to a pizza place (hahaha)
Received my first massage here, and I must admit that I was not impressed. I didnt feel any different when i left nor did i feel anything spectacular while i received the massage. I received a spa package certificate and let me just say after receiving the services i.e. mediocre mani/pedi, a facial and massage, I would not have personally paid for any of these services at this establishment. I arrived 30-40 mins early and still wasnt serviced until 15 mins after my appt. I felt like everything was disorganized and the services were not impressive. I will say the customer service was excellent but that does not make up for the actual quality of the services received. I wouldnt recommend this place!
OMG! Is it really possible to have found the "perfect" therapist? I dont know, but i think i'm pretty close to that. First, I normally dont write reviews on places i've gone, although I read up on them to help me decide on where to go...but I dont regret this at all. I came here to get a massage and my therapist was awesome! It's tough to find a place around this area and pay good money to get a great service, but man, oh man...will you ever get your monies worth here at midtown retreat...at least with the massage...and with Eddie!
He was my therapist and he was fantastic...ladies, this is the man you want...TRUST ME!!!!!!!! i have gotten massages for years; especially, in this area and the prices are astronomical and the workman mediocre at best, but he is phenomenal.
Normally, I dont say anything about the service after it's done, but there was no way that I could not I had to let him know what i thought about him. He was a little surprised to hear about so many complaints i've made about so many other "spas". But he was very humbled.
I recommended my husband to come in that same day to try him out...but he was booked up...he got in the following day and my husband wants to see him as well....
PEOPLE...if you are reading this, seriously give it a try...i can guarantee you that you will love him as much as my husband and i have.
Eddie...see you soon!
Pros: Right in Midtown, prices, nails, all in one stop shop
Cons: not more of Eddie my massage therapist :(
I was referred into midtown retreat to see Chantil, who is both a hair stylist & massage therapist. I have been in several times now to get a haircut, along with a massage, & it has been a wonderful experience everytime. She is GREAT!!! The whole staff is nice as well and always very welcoming. I look forward to my visits in there.
Pros: Staff,Atmosphere
Kim my "new found" hair stylist, rocks!! I have been searching for a hair stylist that is meticulous to details and has an eye for style. I am very difficult to please when it comes to my hair. She's the best I have been to and I'm excited to come back again for my next appointment. I'm going to highly recommend her to everyone who is always looking for a better hair stylist. ***major kudos to Kim***
Pros: ambience, skill, staff, hair stylist
Cons: n/a
I have been looking for years for someone who could handle my hair (VERY thick) and Kim has met the challenge. I wish she could do my hair everyday because no matter how hard I try it never looks as good as when she does it. I highly recommend her and I tell all my friends about her.
If there was a Oscar to be given out for the best hair stylist...Kim would win it!!! *hands down* I highly recommend Kim for her creative initiution. Her talent is also very versatile, she can work with all hair types. When I come for my routinely visit, I would be clueless as to what I want. But Kim has great ideas. You'll be walking out of the salon feeling like a "SuperStar"!
Pros: Easy access to location in midtown area.
Cons: N/A
I would love to RAVE about Russ and the new place he is at; Midtown Retreat Salon and Spa. I lost my hairdresser a few months back when he moved to Houston. But recently had the pleasure of being in town and booking a haircut and color with Russ (MY HAIR GUY THAT MOVED). The Salon is very nice, relaxing and modern. Russ is still the absolute best at cut and color....after a few attempts of trying people back home in Fort Worth, NO ONE STILL COMPARES TO HIM! He is very friendly and knows what he is doing when it comes to cut and color. I can't tell you how much he is missed here in Fort Worth.....MIDTOWN RETREAT AND HOUSTON, YOU FOUND A GREAT HAIR HAIRDRESSER WITH RUSS!
Pros: RUSS IS THERE!...LATE HOURS
I love Midtown retreat, its so intimate and everyone was really nice.. especially Thai and Mary.. very clean and modern, it really feeels like a retreat!~Lydia
I have Chantill do my hair at Midtown Retreat and she always does an exceptional job. My hair is a red/brown color that's not easy to do and I'm also a little particular about how it looks. Chantill gets it right every time. People stop me on the street all the time asking if my hair is natural color and who does it!
She always takes really good care of me when I go in! Thanks Chantill!
Pros: Atmosphere, staff, customer service, the wine, massages!!!!, music.... everything!
Cons: Wish I could go more often
I went in recently for a haircut and was very impressed with the place itself and the attentive service. I will definitely be back and you can add me to Russ' fan club. Russ made sure to give a thorough consultation of what kind of cut I wanted and listened to my opinion. He cut exactly the length he said he was going to cut and I am very happy with the results. Usually, I am always wary about going to new places and haircuts in general, but I will definitely be back to Midtown Retreat.
Pros: friendly, attentive, skilled staff, beautiful salon
My fiance' and I came here before our engagement party to get massages and pedicures! I am so happy that this place just opened up right down the street from our condo! How convenient and what a treat! We felt like royalty and I think the person who greeted us and gave us a tour was actually the owner... I love to see hands on business owners who really care about putting their best face forward. I was really impressed and I am sure we will come back ( especiall right before our big day - wish us luck!) I didn't have a problem with parking on the day that I came, and I cant say anything negative at all about this place. I loved it.
Pros: Very relaxing, Upscale but affordable, Nice staff
Cons: Can't go everyday... (smile)
I have to travel downtown from Katy a few times a month for my husband and I usually have to find a way to spend a few hours. I noticed this new spa after getting a tan in the same plaza one day and I make it a destination point ever since. I read the first review up above and I have to say that I have been there several times now and I have had mani's and pedi's, a hair cut and color, and several massages, and I have never had a bad experience. I always set an appointment and I have never had to wait for more than 5 or 10 minutes for anything and on top of that, i found all of the staff to be well equiped in every station. This place has a very quaint atmosphere and I will continue to come back again and again. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that on certain days at certain times there can be limited parking but that's the only thing I can come up with on the down side... but let's be realistic... this is houston! Is there ever parking anywhere? LOL
Pros: Ambiance, Stress free, One Stop Shop
Cons: Parking
When I went back to receive my complimentary cut everything was great. Russ did a perfect job on my cut. It was one of the few times I have ever left a salon and didn't go home to style it myself. Overall service was excellent and I will be going back for followup cuts and other services. I highly recommend Midtown Retreat for all services.
I was on a holiday bussiness in Houston on Sep last month, it was so lucky that i found the midtown retreat spa in a citysearch website.. i got an extremly massage from the guy who is kinda handsome, mature looking and especially he does a really really professional massage for me, his name is Tai Lai... then i got a haircut from a pretty lady whoes name is Kim in the spa, im so concerned when my hair is getting longer and how can i get the same haircut again if im not going to be in Houston.. but anyways, just wanted to share my point of view and what a good place that i got to know in Houston..
Pros: good service and professional skills. Pleasant atmosphere.
Cons: not at all
