I feel bad giving this place one star because I think it might mislead people into thinking there is anything good about this place. Restaurant is a generic dump. Food is overpriced and bad. Service is amateur. Save your time, money,

I first went to Haiku a few weeks ago and was pleased with the sashimi plate and of course the prices. I usually have to pay around 30 for this plate and since I'm pretty weird about ingredients in a roll it's usually my best choice.

I ordered the chicken udom soup to go. The soup was so hot is melted the styrofoam cup completely through. The soup was mediocre in taste and thoroughly contaminated by petroleum byproducts from melted styrofoam. I'll go back to Mama Fu's

I have been to Haiku several times to meet friends for happy hour or to take my adventurous 9 year old to eat. My family and I went to Haiku last night for my sisters birthday and while the food was meh...the service was beyond awful! After about 20 minutes our waiter came by and took our order, there were 8 of us and we all trickled in at different time, frustrating for him I am sure but at least you know you will get a good tip! My sister ordered Tuna sushi (not roll) just tuna on rice and when he brought her Shashimi (just tuna) she explained that was not what she ordered, and he proceeded to let out a long, loud SIGH and explained that if he sent it back he would have to pay for it...which I was simply blown away by his actions. I mean its the girls birthday and all she wanted was her sushi and peach sake....after that, the service really went downhill.....

He stopped coming by to check on us, when the birthday girl got up to use the restroom, they brought her out a special birthday treat and when they realized she was not at the table, our waiter blurted out "so what we are just supposed to stand around here and wait for her" Umm excuse me but this was a Tuesday, 7pm and other than 1 table across the restaurant, we were the only people there and with 8 people, all of whom ordered large sake and lots of food you talk and treat us like this!? Even though I love Haiku's Happy Hour prices, it will probably be some time before I ever go back just based on that experience alone...tisk on you Haiku for hiring rude unknowledgable waitstaff.

Update: I did give them 2 stars but after the waiter so graciously added a $11.00 tip to my credit card AFTER we left a 20-25 cash tip.....so now Haiku, you get one star from me
After calling and speaking to the Manager, he wanted me to call the person they were suppose to add the tip to and ask them to reimburse me the $11.00....very unprofessional!!! This was AFTER the manager told me to come up and get the 11.00......how dumb would I have looked. I am disputing this charge and am now on the hunt for a new sushi joint cause I will never return to Haiku again

I have been to Haiku a few times for their happy hour. Though the sushi was nothing special whatsoever, the price made it worth the trip. One day we went for lunch not during their happy hour and I ordered the tuna roll and the crunchy roll. I specifically told the waitress that I did not want cucumber on both because of allergies and she reassured me that they didn't come with cucumber. When I got the roll the tuna roll had large pieces of cucumber and I kindly asked her to fix this and she apologized nicely and said that they don't usually put cucumbers on it and that they had "switched it up" on her. She sent it back to the only guy working behind the sushi bar and the man grabbed it out of her hands and the plate was returned to me within minutes. The entire plate was covered with avocado smudges and instead of remaking the roll like a classy sushi place would, they pulled the cucumber out and stuffed it with mushy, oxidized- brown, old avocado. The shrimp roll already comes with avocado and I have no problem with that, however, this became a disgusting roll of mushy avocado with a tiny piece of frozen shrimp. If you want quality sushi, hit up places like Odaku. If you want crap then a trip to Haiku won't be disappointing!

So I've always been afraid of sushi, because raw meat just doesn't sound appetizing. My bf is a HUGE fan of sushi & las night talked me into trying it one time. We went to Haiku b/c it was recommended by friends. The restaurant was completely empty on a Tues night, which is a shame, because we both thought it was fantastic! Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgable about the menu, her recomendations were spot on. We had the Haiku roll, as well as eel, crawfish, smoked salmon, and the crunchy roll. The smoked salmon roll was *fantastic*. The only one that failed to impress was the crunchy roll, which was bland (she warned us it was popular, but not one of her favs!) We avoided the pineapple saki on others' advice, but did order the peach saki, which was excellent. He ordered a Japanese beer. Total for the dinner & drinks was only $50, and we had enough food for one more meal. Our advice: go to Haiku-- you won't regret it!

I have always been fond of trying new things and at first raw meats and cold rice was not in favor. But I knew if I didn't try it that it just wouldn't be me. When I first walked in I thought tranquil, much like a modern day spa and the service was quick to serve although it was slightly empty on a Tuesday night. The wait for the food was not long at all and I was suprised at the portion and price in a good way. I was pleasantly suprised with the taste being skeptical from the beginning. I ordered the dragon roll and my friend the California roll after they were quite helpful in answering me and my guests questions. Our waiter checked on us once before setting the check on the table not even 15 minutes into the meal. If it would not have been empty I would understand but in this case I felt a little insulted. But I will mention spotting the waiter eating as if on break momments later. I will come here again and reccomend it to all my friends and especially first timers. The food tasted fresh and delicious, looked beautiful, was filling and affordable.

I have ate at many sushi places around Austin over the years and this place is by far the best! The sushi is out of this world good! And make sure you try the calamari and the fried banana! The server was also very nice and patiently explained all the dishes we asked about. If u love sushi don't miss this gem!

To the guy that says they're cheating...I have never reviewed any restaurant on this site before..I read them all the time but never actually review. This place is so good, I caught myself talking about it days later so I absolutely had to share my experience here for everyone to read. Oh and just so you know I'm not in on a conspiracy to over rate Haiku...don't try the pineapple sake, unless you love cantelope juice bc that exactly what it tasted like. It wasn't undrinkable but I hate cantelope and it didn't taste like pineapple.

My hubby and I continually stop by for a nice sushi dinner out or we grab take out. The happy hour is fantastic. Try the Volcano roll. The Miso soup is great too! The atmosphere is tranquil. The customer service is friendly. The food is fantastic. We just moved from the California coast and we are half Korean so we know our seafood.

This place does have a modern feel and has the potential to be a good place to eat if I didn't have to wait 5 to 10 minutes every time that i go there to just be seated WHEN THE PLACE IS EMPTY! I've only had one good waitress when I've gone here, and that was the first time I've came. Every other time it seems like my presence there is just an annoyance to them. I've decided to not go there again because of this....

This restaurant is cheating the Citysearch rating system in order to give their restaurant high scores. Look at the reviews. Look at the shear number per day, 98% of the reviews are from a user that has only reviewed one restaurant, this one! This restaurant is new to Austin and in a growing shopping center. There is no possible way their clients would all flock to Citysearch and ALL but two people give 5 star reviews! Bogus. I have been here. Service is not that great and food was just mediocre. I would be going back but I did some research and discovered their cheat. I will not giv them another try! Boooo!

The food is good, but if you want great service don't go to Haiku!! There have been times that I didn't get my water until the end of the meal.... What kind of service is that?! Plus, the advertistment is false... It says that if you buy a beer you get one free. NO and the drinks are way over priced. I would suggest that you wait for the sushi place next to the movie theatre to open. They are bound to be good.

I've been to Haiku many times. The service has always been lacking in " Customer service" except if you sit at the bar. The chefs and the food are amazing. On the other hand, I took my very best friend there today and the service was horrible! " By far the Worst". I told the manager that because of the way she treated my bestfriend" a new comer whom I've raved to about the food " that I was never coming back along with the 10 to 20 people that I'm usually with.... She said " That's fine and I don't care." I'm very upset about this, because my friend drove 30 miles to eat here and the service wasn't only bad it was horrible thanks to the owner. I would never recommend going to this restaurant... Honestly, It was TERRIBLE!!! I WOULD KNOW I'M A FOOD AND BEVERAGE MANAGER AT A GOLF COURSE!!!!

I'm so excited South Austin has a great sushi place. The place is truly unique. Their attention to detail is amazing. I've been several times and the food is always excellent! I hate to say that HaiKu is the best Sushi in South Austin, because of the possible crowds that will start to rush the restaurant but then again HaiKu deserves it. The sushi is good, the staff if very kind and fun to talk with while you wait for your food, very informative if its your first time eating sushi. You must give it a try you wont be disapointed.

My boyfriend and I love to go to this place all the time for lunch and dinner. I especially love the love-boat item on the menu which consists of an impressive array of sashimi and sushi roll choices. Muy romantique

This place is great! Loved it when it first opened and I'm still discovering new things to love. Great to-go choice as well. Nice people. Always friendly.

Go now! Can't make clearer than that can I? No matter what I say it won't be enough to explain how great the food is. Even my dad who's not one to try new things was impressed!

I just went there yesterday and it was really wonderful. I had the haiku roll, spicy tuna roll, dragon roll, crunchy roll, and tempura dinner. It was amazingly delicious! Please go and try it out for yourself at least once.

My mo, sister and I decided to have a mother's day dinner by ourselves for once and we were delighted to have dined at haiku. They gave us each a beautiful, single stemmed rose and the food was equally remarkably thoughtful.

As a mom, I was glad to have found this place. My kids are picky and it was a relieve when they didn't give me lip about the food. They actually loved it and wanted to go back! I was amazed!

In my opinion, Haiku is one of the best sushi restaurants in austin. Not only is it elegant and romantic but the food is delicious and the serving portions are large. I recommend HaiKu to sushi lovers.
